Game Day makes their selections

For their guest celebrity, they brought in actor, comedian and surprisingly doctor Ken Jeong to make picks along with Desmond Howard, Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit. Find out below who they selected to win today’s games.

Gameday Picks: Lee Corso, Bill Walton and crew make picks for Oregon vs. UCLA

Everyone on the ESPN College Gameday crew picked the UCLA Bruins to upset the No. 10 Oregon Ducks, including Bill Walton and Lee Corso.

Is it still an upset if the home team is technically the betting favorite?

Regardless of how you stand there, the UCLA Bruins were getting some love from the pickers at ESPN’s College Gameday on Saturday morning, being picked to upset the No. 10 Oregon Ducks by everyone on the crew.

Lee Corso, who has had a loving relationship with Oregon’s mascot Puddles over the years, picked the Bruins, saying that it was “strictly business” and he still loved the Duck.

Here is how the rest of the crew decided to go when asked their opinions:

We will see if the guesses can come true, or if the Ducks will start to turn around their season and put a better product on the field to kick off the second half of the year.

Kickoff is at 12:30 p.m. PT on ABC.

College Gameday Staff Predicts Notre Dame-USC

Are you a fan of the Bill Walton act?

The College Gameday crew spent the Saturday morning of Notre Dame-USC in Los Angeles.  It’s just that the Irish and Trojans play in South Bend tonight while UCLA hosts Oregon this evening, which was the reason for the location.

UCLA basketball legend Bill Walton was there as the celebrity picker as he sported his UCLA football shirt.  Who did he and the rest of the College Gameday staff pick to win tonight’s rivalry game between Notre Dame and USC?

Fan Vote:  Notre Dame 85%

Desmond Howard: Notre Dame

Bill Walton:  USC

Lee Corso:  Notre Dame

Kirk Herbstreit:  Notre Dame

Howard noted the weather (37-degrees now forecasted) being a factor while Herbstreit says he’s most looking forward to Notre Dame’s secondary taking on Drake London.  Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. ET and can seen on NBC.

Georgia mascot Uga was a star on ‘College GameDay’ before Kentucky game

Good dog.

Forget Jeff Foxworthy — the real star guest during ESPN’s College GameDay broadcast on Saturday was Uga, Georgia’s live bulldog mascot.

The college football pregame show has had a lot of great celebrity guest pickers stop by for the broadcast to make their predictions for the Saturday lineups. But anytime a dog is involved, the show is infinitely better, and Uga’s appearance Saturday ahead of No. 1 Georgia taking on No. 11 Kentucky (3:30 p.m. ET, CBS) was no exception.

As Lee Corso recited all the reasons he picked the Bulldogs to beat the Wildcats in the biggest game of Week 7 — we predicted Georgia would win too — there was Uga, sitting on the desk like the good boy he is, looking proud and cute as ever.

Seriously, look at this dog:

Talking to Uga, Corso said before putting on Georgia’s mascot costume head:

“Listen, Georgia is the No. 1 team in the nation, that makes you the No. 1 mascot in the nation. Uga, you and I picked Georgia to win the SEC title. Uga, you and I picked Georgia to win the national championship. Uga and I picked Kentucky to win the basketball tournament, but this isn’t basketball, sweetheart.”

Whether or not Georgia beats Kentucky and remains at the top of college football’s rankings, Uga’s appearance on GameDay was definitely a highlight Saturday.

Various CFB experts make their Alabama-Ole Miss predictions

Experts have made their picks between Alabama and Ole Miss!

Alabama and Ole Miss is shaping up to be a heavyweight bout between the top-15 teams. Ole Miss hopes to head home with a huge upset over the No. 1 team in the nation on the road.

Experts with the ESPN family of networks made their picks on College GameDay and SEC Nation, today.

Most Crimson Tide fans may not be pleased with some of the results, but it seems that one panel was smart enough to avoid a hot-take.

College GameDay’s decision was unanimous, with all four experts picking the Crimson Tide to triumph over the Rebels at home.

The SEC Nation crew was a little bit more diverse. Former Alabama DB Roman Harper, Paul Finebaum and former Florida QB Tim Tebow picked the Crimson Tide to win.

Jordan Rodgers, on the other hand, chose to be the odd-man out and picked Ole Miss to deliver the upset.

No. 1 Alabama is set to take on No. 12 Ole Miss on CBS at 2:30 p.m. CT.

Did Danica Patrick pick against your team? See her ‘College GameDay’ picks from Soldier Field

“I think you’ve got a winner right there,” Lee Corso said to Danica Patrick.

Danica Patrick was the latest professional athlete to serve as the celebrity guest picker on ESPN’s College GameDay, which was in Chicago on Saturday for the Notre Dame-Wisconsin game at Soldier Field.

Patrick was born in Wisconsin and grew up in Roscoe, Illinois, which is about two hours outside of Chicago and right on the Illinois-Wisconsin border. And the retired NASCAR and IndyCar driver made some interesting picks on GameDay — especially since she admitted her football fandom lies more with the NFL than college football.

For GameDay‘s marquee game between No. 12 Notre Dame and No. 18 Wisconsin — which kicked off at noon ET — Patrick went with the Fighting Irish.

“I feel like the Fighting Irish are gonna come through with it today,” Patrick said to the surprise of the GameDay crew.

“I think you’ve got a winner right there, nice going,” Lee Corso said to her before picking Notre Dame himself.

Patrick also picked No. 9 Clemson over N.C. State, Texas over Texas Tech, No. 19 Michigan over Rutgers, No. 20 Michigan State over Nebraska, Stanford over No. 24 UCLA, LSU over Mississippi State and Oklahoma State over No. 25 Kansas State.

She also went with Boston College over Missouri because she’s running the Boston Marathon on Oct. 11 and joked that she needs people from Boston to like her.

“You’re doing a terrific job,” Corso said to Patrick in the middle of her picks.

And here’s a look at Corso’s famous headgear pick as he went with Notre Dame.

Is Alabama vulnerable? College GameDay analysts weigh in

Seemingly each college football season, there’s the perception that Alabama is far and away ahead of every other team in the country.

But coming off the Crimson Tide’s narrow 31-29 win over then No. 11 Florida in Gainesville last Saturday, ESPN’s College GameDay crew had a discussion about whether Nick Saban’s No. 1-ranked team is vulnerable.

Here’s what they had to say:

Desmond Howard: “I think so. And I think it’s the same vulnerability they’ve always had. It’s like if you can play an offense with a running quarterback, a dual-threat quarterback, it gives Nick Saban’s defenses fits and that’s what you saw last week when they played Florida. So, I think they still have the same issues defensively. Coming into this season, people were like oh, this is going to be the best defense Nick Saban’s ever had. They were up 21-3 and allowed Florida to climb back into that game, only beat them by two points. So, I think a running quarterback can give them fits.”

Lee Corso: “Against Florida, Alabama was sloppy. They had 13 penalties, and they did not play Alabama football in the second half. The question I have — is Florida that good, or Alabama that vulnerable? Time will tell.”

Kirk Herbstreit: “I think Alabama, this is one of Nick Saban’s best defenses. The Chris Allen injury hurts them because he and Will Anderson on the edge, that was dangerous. I think this is an overreaction. I think they went to The Swamp, they were up 21-3. If there’s a lesson to be learned for this young football team, you can’t take your foot off the gas. Florida got rocking. Their fans got going, they started to believe. So, I think to me, it’s more impressed with Florida than more concerned with Alabama.”

The Crimson Tide return to the field at 7:30 p.m. Saturday against Southern Miss at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

GameDay crew assesses state of Ohio State football program

ESPN’s College GameDay crew assessed the state of Ohio State’s program, following a loss at home to No. 4 Oregon. “Ohio State just doesn’t look like itself, ” Rece Davis said. Davis went on about the Buckeyes not being able to stop the run. …

ESPN’s College GameDay crew assessed the state of Ohio State’s program, following a loss at home to No. 4 Oregon.

“Ohio State just doesn’t look like itself, ” Rece Davis said.

Davis went on about the Buckeyes not being able to stop the run. Additionally, they’ve allowed a running back to go over 160 yards in each of their first two games and haven’t been able to get much pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

Lee Corso didn’t exactly agree with Davis, despite the loss to Oregon. The legendary coach believes that the Big 10 East Division still runs through Columbus and he said this on the set of College GameDay, which is in University Park (PA.) for Penn State’s matchup against Auburn at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

“They don’t play anybody on their schedule as talented and as skilled as Oregon and that includes Penn State,” Corso said. “Any problems they have, the offense will take care of it. That’s it.”

Kirk Herbstreit alluded to Ohio State head coach Ryan Day’s press conference earlier this week in which he insinuated that this wasn’t just a bad day at the office for Ohio State in Week 2, that this has been a pattern since Jeff Hafley left for Boston College.

“Ohio State has been trying to figure out things ever since,” Herbstreit said.

Day elected to remove Kerry Combs as the team’s defensive play-caller after the Buckeyes have given up a combined 66 points over the first two games.

Herbstreit was very critical of Ohio State’s defensive approach.

“They play a very simple defense, one high safety, it’s either Cover 3 or Cover 1,” he said. “Offensive coordinators are understanding how to manipulate that defense. Oregon [offensive coordinator] Joe Moorhead did an amazing job. As far as gap integrity, the linebackers and safeties, it’s non-existent. Their eyes are everywhere.

“Ohio State to me, how they addressed it this week is Ryan Day took his butt down to the defense. He’s basically the offensive coordinator, he’s now coaching the defense. I’m interested to see if Matt Barnes, the secondary coach, can help out a little more. I don’t even care who calls the defense because they all do. I want to see the adjustments that are made, I’d simplify. Get their eyes right. It’s really unsound defense right now.”

While Herbstreit was very critical of Ohio State’s defense, Desmond Howard had some praise for what they’ve been able to accomplish on the offensive end. Howard is a big believer in Day as a play-caller and his ability to make in-game adjustments.

Herbstreit believes Ohio State’s offense, led by C.J. Stroud, has great potential. While Howard chimed in that the Buckeyes have the best receiver corps in the nation.

The Buckeyes haven’t played a complete game yet and that will have to change soon. Time will certainly tell as Ohio State looks to get back on track against Tulsa at 3:30 p.m.
