Veteran Ravens linebacker vents frustration with the Chiefs training staff

The Baltimore Ravens fell short against the Kansas City Chiefs last Thursday night to kick off the 2024 season. They also lost linebacker Kyle Van Noy to a fractured orbital bone in the game, and he didn’t thank the home team’s training staff for their assistance.

Van Noy vented his frustrations with the Chiefs training staff on the “McCoy & Van Noy” show with his co-host Gerald McCoy.

“To me, I just feel like, as a player, people have that expectation of you being professional,” said Van Noy. “handling business, and in a time of need, I wanted that from them, and I felt like I didn’t get it.”

Van Noy is in his second season with the Ravens and is a two-time Super Bowl champion back from his time with the New England Patriots.

“Because then you get into, like, Did they take their time because I’m a Ravens player? Blah-blah-blah-blah-blah.’ Those are just the thoughts that go into it.” said Van Noy. “I don’t think it was that. But at the same time, I don’t want them to come out and apologize. It is what it is. Like, it’s all good. I don’t need them to come out with a press release and apologize, ‘We take care of our players, blah-blah-blah.’ I experienced it.”

The Chiefs, along with every team in the NFL’s training staff, often assist anyone who is injured during games. The safety of the players is the priority for all involved in the game.

Raiders, Ravens Week 2 injury report: LB Kyle Van Noy still not practicing

LB Kyle Van Noy still not practicing and was joined by Nate Wiggins

The Thursday injury report is out and it brings a bit of good news for the Raiders — something previous injury reports were not bringing. First of all, they didn’t add anyone to the injury report. That’s a step up. Second, they actually upgraded a couple players.

Kolton Miller (knee) and Andre James (elbow) were both upgraded from Limited on Wednesday to full participants on Thursday.

Still missing for the Raiders was rookie CB DeCamerion Richardson (hamstring) and edge rusher Tyree Wilson (knee).

Still missing for the Ravens is LB Kyle Van Noy (eye). Joining him is CB Nate Wiggins (neck)

Kolton Miller, Andre James both limited for Raiders on Wednesday

It’s fair to say that no two linemen on the Raiders had a rougher season opener than Kolton Miller and Andre James. A few days later and they may be still recovering from that ordeal.

Both Miller (knee) and James (elbow) showed up on the Raiders injury report on Wednesday. Both were limited.

Returning to practice after his illness that kept him out of the opener is rookie second round guard Jackson Powers-Johnson. He too was limited.

As expected, Tyree Wilson missed practice with the sprained knee he suffered last Sunday. Rookie CB DeCamerion Richardson was also not practicing.

The only player missing for the Ravens was OLB Kyle Van Noy.

Ravens edge rusher Kyle Van Noy to miss time after suffering a fractured orbital bone in loss to Chiefs

The Ravens could be without Kyle Van Noy for some time after the veteran pass rusher suffered a fractured orbital bone in the 27-20 loss to the Chiefs on Thursday night.

Van Noy was forced to exit six plays into the second half with an eye injury after attempting to make a tackle and did not return.

If Van Noy misses an extended period of time, this could allow Tavius Robinson, Malik Harrison, or David Ojabo to have an increased role.

Baltimore is already down one pass rusher, with Adisa Isaac nursing an injured hamstring.

Ravens vs. Packers: Top photos from preseason finale at Lambeau Field

We’re looking at the top photos from the Baltimore Ravens preseason loss to the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field

It’s only the preseason, but the Ravens will head towards the 53-man roster cutdown date with a sour taste after a 30-7 loss to the Packers at Lambeau Field on Saturday afternoon. Josh Johnson was 5-7 for 71 yards and one passing touchdown, while Michael Pratt led Green Bay in passing, going 8-12 for 80 yards and one touchdown. The Packers were dominant on the ground, amassing 193 rushing yards, as Ellis Merriweather led all ball carriers with 16 yards for 74 yards. The Packers held the ball for nearly ten minutes longer than the Ravens and out-gained Baltimore by 326 yards to 177 for John Harbaugh’s bunch. With Baltimore now turning its attention toward the Chiefs, here’s an instant analysis of the loss. ***

Former Pro Bowler critical of Panthers for sitting Bryce Young in preseason games

Former Bucs (and Panthers) DT Gerald McCoy is dumbfounded as to why the Panthers haven’t played Bryce Young this preseason.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers (and Carolina Panthers) defensive tackle Gerald McCoy did some straight shootin’ this week.

On the very first episode of their new podcast McCoy & Van Noy, the six-time Pro Bowl defender and Baltimore Ravens linebacker Kyle Van Noy talked about the preseason inactivity of a few NFC South quarterbacks. After taking on situation between the Atlanta Falcons and rookie Michael Penix Jr., McCoy turned his attention to the Panthers and Bryce Young—who has yet to play a snap of exhibition ball this summer.

“Y’all were terrible last year. Terrible,” McCoy stated. “Bryce Young, you didn’t play well, son. You didn’t play well. Dave Canales, I love what you did with my Bucs. I love how you showed the world that Baker Mayfield still can ball. You took what his skill set was and you let it shine.

“So hiring you in Carolina was the right hire. It was, because Bryce Young is talented. He’s in the same mold of a Baker Mayfield. A Heisman Trophy winner, a smaller guy, can move around, can make all the throws, can make plays with his feet.”

2023 yielded much different results for Young and Mayfield. The Panthers saw the former pass for just 179.8 passing per game en route to a league-worst 2-15 record while the Bucs saw Canales help the latter hit career-highs across the board on their way to a third straight division title.

McCoy continued.

“But he’s just in his second year,” he added of Young. “And he ain’t C.J. Stroud. So why ain’t he played yet? The only way to get better at football is to play football. It is extremely difficult to get better at football when you don’t play.”

Canales, even today, has remained firm on his thought process of keeping Young and his starters on the sideline this preseason.

“I’m open to playing our guys this week,” Canales said in regards to Saturday’s preseason finale in Buffalo. “The same thing I told you after the game is true, though. We have to look at, ‘What does that group look like if we put everybody out there?’ Are there enough of those guys to say, ‘Man, is this valuable for us to get these reps?’ Once we start to get into the depth of different positions, that kinda forces our hand sometimes on, ‘Can we play our guys?’ Or, ‘Do we need to play them?’

“So, again, today was a hard practice. Tomorrow is gonna be another hard one. So, for me, I have to make sure we get through these two days and I collect that information and make that decision as we go forward.”

Well, we know what decision McCoy would make if he had to.

Ravens vs. Falcons: Top photos from Baltimore’s 13-12 win in preseason Week 2

We’re looking at the top photos from the Baltimore Ravens 13-12 win over the Atlanta Falcons in the preseason Week 2 matchup

Backup quarterback Josh Johnson was perfect on the afternoon, and rookie Emory Jones added a 56-yard touchdown throw to Dayton Wade in the second half to lift the Baltimore Ravens to a 13-12 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday at M&T Bank Stadium.  The Ravens snapped a three-game preseason losing streak, while Atlanta had 343 yards of total offense but was 4-13 on third downs. Baltimore had another putrid day on the ground, rushing for 71 yards on 30 attempts.  With the team set to start preparation for the preseason finale, here are the top photos from the win over Atlanta. ***

Ravens rookie linebacker Joe Evans gets ringing endorsement from Kyle van Noy

Kyle van Noy described Joe Evans as: “That’s Mr. Iowa right there. He’s an Iowa Hawkeye if I’ve ever seen one.”

Ravens OLB Kyle Van Noy is one of the team’s leading stars and veteran leaders on defense. So his words carry a lot of weight, and that’s good news for undrafted free agent Joe Evans and his hopes of making the final cut this summer.

Van Noy described Evans as: “That’s Mr. Iowa right there. He’s an Iowa Hawkeye if I’ve ever seen one.”

Now, most people outside the Midwest/traditional Big Ten country would hear that and assume he’s a punter. Nationally, the Iowa Hawkeyes brand is punts and extremely low-scoring games.

There is a reason that fans wear t-shirts that read: “Live. Laugh. Punt.”

However, there is much more to Iowa Hawkeyes football than games with baseball-style final scores. It’s toughness, relentlessness, and playing a physical style of football that doesn’t translate to the stat sheet.

Van Noy has noticed this in Evans, praising his effort and ambition in the preseason opener and during training camp in general.

“Big Joe just loves his passion for the game,” said Van Noy.

“He didn’t complain once. I was proud of him. Not only is it an interview for this place, it’s an interview for 31 other teams. He wasn’t perfect, and to play as many snaps as he did, and his pass rush, he was all over the place.”

Evans, who aims to make the squad an edge rusher, recorded the second-most run defense snaps in the NFL during Week 1 of the preseason (31), according to Ravens Nation Live.

He led the Hawkeyes, one of the best defensive teams in the nation last season, in sacks.

According to Van Noy, Evans’s passionate play and high motivation are winning over his teammates.

“It’s awesome; he is the team favorite right now,” KVN added.

Evans’ winning over the locker room can only help his chances of passing the final round of cuts and making the 53-man roster.

The Ravens returned to the field for live game action for the first time since their heartbreaking, 17-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC title game.

Baltimore hosted Philadelphia at M&T Bank Stadium, with both teams on similar arcs, and championship paths. Starting quarterback Lamar Jackson sat out along with key starters on both sides of the football.

Eagles kicker Jake Elliott made a 49-yard field goal with no time remaining to give the Philadelphia Eagles a 16-13 victory after Baltimore quarterback Emory Jones — who had just entered the game — was sacked and fumbled on the next play.

The recovery by Patrick Johnson gave Elliott his final opportunity of the night.
