Ohio State QB commit Kyle McCord wins Elite 11 Pro Day competition

Ohio State 2021 quarterback Kyle McCord won the Elite 11 Pro Day competition Tuesday. He could be the next great one in Columbus.

Somewhere along the line, Ohio State became a destination school for quarterbacks. A program long thought of in the same breath as “three yards and a cloud of dust” has morphed into one that has now begun to bring in top-flight quarterback talent. In fact, the Buckeyes have had a near lock-hold on the Big Ten’s Brees-Brady Quarterback of the Year Award, winning it seven of the nine times since its inception.

And there’s more in the pipeline. You have to figure current quarterback Justin Fields has a better chance than any in the conference to win it again, and behind him are five-star talents like C.J. Stroud, and Kyle McCord who is committed for the 2021 class.

On that note, McCord is taking part in the Elite 11 quarterback competition and showing out. He had the best performance of any of the top QBs invited yesterday during the Pro Day competition.

McCord is looking to become the third Ohio State quarterback in the last four years to win the Elite 11 MVP honors. Stroud won it last year, and Justin Fields took home the honor in 2017.

With more talent like this, and if it all pans out through development and scheme, you can bet that future quarterbacks will continue to give Ohio State a look as well down the road.

Notre Dame QB commit Buchner included in final Elite 11 Roster

Irish commit Tyler Buchner now knows his competition at the prestigious Elite 11 quarterback camp.

It has been three months since Irish quarterback commit Tyler Buchner knew he was going to compete with the best at his position at the Elite 11 camp. What wasn’t known was who else would join him and on Friday the field was set.

It is a list of who’s who for the future of the position in college football. Buchner is joined by Brock Vandagrif (Georgia), Kyle McCord (Ohio State), Drake Maye (North Carolina), JJ McCarthy (Michigan), the nation’s top uncommitted prospect Caleb Williams and more.

The Elite 11 camp is one of the most prestigious quarterback camps in the football world, just look was some of their camps alumni and you’ll see an impressive list of college stars who graduated to the NFL. Houston Texan Deshaun Watson, Arizona Cardinal’s Kyler Murray, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagoviola, and projected first round picks in Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and Ohio State’s Justin Fields are just a few of the notable list of former participants. As noted on their website “25 of the 32 current NFL starting quarterback, and 12 of the past 13 quarterback who have hoisted the Heisman Trophy.” It truly is the camp to be invited to as a prep quarterback.

Being a participant at the camp doesn’t always equate to success at the collegiate level, but it is a great measuring stick against the top competition. Bucher will have his hands full against the talented field which will begin on June 29th and run through July 1st. Our eyes will surely be on Buchner and how well he does against some of the best high school quarterback talent in the country.

Ohio State QB commit Kyle McCord invited to Elite 11 Finals

Five-star Ohio State quarterback commit Kyle McCord will be participating in the exclusive Elite 11 Finals.

Ohio State has another blue-chip commit that will be competing in a select competition with his peers. Kyle McCord, a five-star prospect out of St. Joseph’s High School in Philadelphia, PA, announced his participation in the exclusive Elite 11 quarterback competition Finals on Twitter Friday.

According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, McCord is ranked as the No. 3 Pro-style passer and 24th overall prospect in the class of 2021. His ratings have been on the rise ever since he committed to Ohio State back on April 30 of 2019. He was the second recruit to the class, following only five-star defensive end Jack Sawyer.

It’s been quite the run for Buckeye quarterback commits getting invited to the Elite 11 Finals. Not only did current Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields compete, but so too did Dwayne Haskins and Tate Martell. In addition to that, incoming freshmen from the 2020 class, C.J. Stroud and Jack Miller were also a part of all the fun.

247 Sports updated its recruiting rankings, and Ohio State’s 2021 class is insane

Ohio State’s 2021 recruiting class is shaping up to be incredible. Ryan Day is keeping up the momentum.

Everyone has known for a while that Ohio State is the early leader to take home the 2021 recruiting title. Ryan Day and his crew have been excellent recruiters, quickly quelling one of the biggest fears surrounding Urban Meyer’s departure. It’s still early, of course, and there’s a ton of recruiting to be done before December. Whether it ends up as No. 1 overall or not, though, this Ohio State class will be one to remember.

Recruiting rankings services (well, the good ones, at least) don’t just give players a ranking then go home. They keep up with them, keep watching film, look at what coaches are talking to and about players, and overall try to keep every player and every ranking as accurate as possible. Therefore, individual players’ rankings will be updated from time to time, especially this far out from National Signing Day.

Well, 247 Sports updated its rankings this morning, and Ohio State’s class already looks like a monster one.

The players in Ohio State’s class so far have an average rating of 95.37. That’s an insane number, which likely will drop just a tad as the class fills out. (Clemson actually has a 95.38 average so far, but that class has only ten recruits, and none below a 4-star ranking. Ohio State, meanwhile, already has three 3-star players, which brings the average down a tad.) Still, it’s a really good insane number to have so far.

With just 17 commitments so far (plus a punter from Australia), the Buckeyes still have plenty of spaces to add more big names to this class. With a total of 296 quality points so far, this year’s Ohio State class already sits in what would have been a Top 5 class this past year. (Ohio State had the No. 5 class in 2020 with 295.08 quality points, and that had 25 recruits.) This recruiting class is already insane, and with months to go, it has room to get even better.

Maybe that’s the Buckeyes own three of the top four spots (and five of the top 12) in 247’s rankings of recruiting assistants. It’s certainly well-deserved.

Ohio State football 2021 QB commit Kyle McCord now a five-star prospect

Ohio State 2021 quarterback commitment Kyle McCord has been bumped up to a five-star prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

It was big news when Ohio State got a verbal commitment from one of the country’s best pro-style quarterback prospects out of the Philadelphia area. Kyle McCord, out of St. Joseph’s High School was a four-star class of 2021 prospect at the time when he committed to the Buckeyes back on April 30 last year.

You have to wonder if head coach Ryan Day knew he was getting a guy that was undervalued. The news didn’t exactly send ripple effects across the recruiting world, but it was still a solid land.

Now, it appears as though Day and staff knew what they were doing, because McCord has now been bumped up to a five-star prospect according to the composite rankings of 247Sports. Not only that, but he’s now rated as the No. 4 pro-style QB, and No. 24 overall recruit in the class of 2021.

As long as McCord stays with his commitment and heads to Ohio State, the Buckeyes are going to have quite the quarterback competition once Justin Fields moves on. Not only will the Pennsylvania native be coming to campus as a freshman, but another five-star prospect (at least according to some of the recruiting services) C.J. Stroud, as well as a high four-star signee Jack Miller will already be vying for the job after already being in the program for a year.

The quarterback room will have plenty of options down the line, meaning the program seems to be set up for success as we move on.
