LSU’s Kylan Billiot named a freshman SEC receiver to watch

It may be tough to break through in LSU’s receiver room, but true freshman Kylan Billiot has the chance to do so.

Even with [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag] and [autotag]Brian Thomas Jr.[/autotag] moving on, it’s hard not to like what LSU has at receiver.

It returned budding stars like [autotag]Kyren Lacy[/autotag], [autotag]Chris Hilton Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]Aaron Anderson[/autotag] while adding transfer [autotag]CJ Daniels[/autotag]. It will also hope for some development from second-year players [autotag]Shelton Sampson Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]Kyle Parker[/autotag].

However, true freshman receiver [autotag]Kylan Billiot[/autotag] could also make an impact. The four-star prospect from Terrebonne was 247Sports’ No. 13 receiver in the 2024 cycle, and he was listed among potential impact freshman wideouts in the SEC this fall.

It may be tough for Billiot to see the field given all the aforementioned talent at the position, but as the top-rated receiver in LSU’s signing class, he’s the team’s best candidate for a true freshman breakout star.

LSU receiver signee Kylan Billiot among players who boosted stock at All-American Bowl

Kylan Billiot was a clear standout in San Antonio this week.

This past weekend weekend, we wrapped up the high school all-star game circuit as the annual All-American Bowl was held in San Antonio.

The Tigers had four signees in the 2024 class who participated in the All-American Bowl, and one of them may have done a lot to boost his stock at the end of the cycle.

On3’s Cody Bellaire listed receiver [autotag]Kylan Billiot[/autotag] as one of several players who are trending up after their performance this week. A four-star prospect from Terrebonne (Houma, LA), Billiot ranks just inside the top 300 of the 247Sports Composite Rankings. However, that ranking could rise in the coming weeks.

Here’s what Bellaire said about his performance in San Antonio.

We were excited to learn Kylan Billiot was added to the All-American Bowl roster, feeling he is a prospect who could really move the needle with a great showing. With that said, he started the week off with a bang. We knew the athleticism and size was going to show up, but the improvement in his ball skills was quickly evident as he made multiple acrobatic catches and displayed some strong hands during the 1-on-1 period. As the week progressed, the LSU signee showed progress in his route-running and ability to separate on intermediate routes. While he has always had the top-end speed to blow by defenders on vertical routes, the ability to break off defenders at the top of the route was evident. The improvement is notable, given his limited time playing football. Billiot may have been held relatively quiet during the All-American Bowl, but the progress he’s shown illustrates his upside and ability to take coaching. The physical tools and athleticism are certainly there. There’s no question Billiot’s best football is ahead of him as he continues to improve his technical skills.

Billiot could have a path to immediate playing time as LSU loses receivers [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag] and [autotag]Brian Thomas Jr.[/autotag] to the draft. It still returns veterans like [autotag]Kyren Lacy[/autotag], [autotag]Chris Hilton Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]Aaron Anderson[/autotag] as well as 2023 signees [autotag]Shelton Sampson Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]Khai Prean[/autotag], who both redshirted as true freshmen.

LSU receiver commit selected to play in All-American Bowl

One of LSU’s top receiver commits will show off his abilities in San Antonio next month.

LSU receiver commit [autotag]Kylan Billiot[/autotag] will be going up against the top high school players in the country next month as he’s been selected to take part in the All-American Bowl in San Antonio on Jan. 6.

The four-star Terrabone (Houma) prospect ranks as the No. 278 player in the country, per the 247Sports Composite. He’s also a top-10 prospect in the state of Louisiana.

He pledged to the Tigers back in June and has been solid in his commitment since then. Now, LSU fans will get the chance to see their future wideout in action in the All-American Bowl, which will stream on Peacock at noon CT on Jan. 6.

LSU currently has the No. 13-ranked class in 2024 per On3 and No. 14 per 247Sports.

2024 4-star receiver sets commitment date

Jeremiah McClellan will announce where he will play his college ball on Aug. 13.

A 2024 four-star wide receiver from Saint Louis released his final five list of schools that are still in consideration for him to commit to. LSU joined the likes of Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon and Missouri on the final list.

We now know a date for his commitment. [autotag]Jeremiah McClellan[/autotag] will announce where he will play his college ball on Aug. 13. According to On3, Ohio State is a 91% favorite to land him and he has received two Crystal Ball projections to land him on 247Sports.

LSU currently has two wide receiver commits and both of them are four-stars ([autotag]Kylan Billiot[/autotag] and [autotag]Joseph Stone[/autotag]). So it wouldn’t be the end of the world if McClellan chooses the Buckeyes over the Tigers.

LSU’s 2024 recruiting class currently ranks as the No. 11 overall class in the country according to 247Sports. The Tigers recently held the Bayou Splash so we can expect a lot of offers to be rolling out soon.

LSU makes final 5 for 2024 4-star wide receiver

The Tigers made the cut for one of the top receivers on their board in Jeremiah McClellan.

2024 four-star wide receiver [autotag]Jeremiah McClellan[/autotag] has narrowed down his final list of schools to five, and the LSU Tigers made the cut.

LSU joins Ohio State, Missouri, Oregon and Georgia as the teams left in pursuit of McClellan. McClellan is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound wide receiver from Saint Louis where he plays for Christian Brothers College High School.

The Ohio State Buckeyes have received multiple Crystal Ball projections to land McClellan, and the Buckeyes are a 91% favorite for him per On3.

LSU is considered a long shot to land McClellan but anything can happen when it comes to recruiting. LSU currently has 18 commits for the 2024 recruiting class, including two wide receivers ([autotag]Joseph Stone[/autotag] and [autotag]Kylan Billiot[/autotag]). The class currently ranks as the No. 13 overall class in the country by 247Sports.

You can never have too many wide receivers. [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag], [autotag]Kyren Lacy[/autotag] and [autotag]Brian Thomas Jr.[/autotag] could all be gone after next fall so the Tigers are in need of some playmakers.

LSU receives prediction for 4-star 2024 wide receiver

Jelani Watkins could be heading to Baton Rouge, based on this recent projection.

On3 LSU insider Shea Dixon has predicted that 2024 four-star wide receiver Jelani Watkins will commit to LSU.

Watkins is a 5-foot-9, 150-pound speedster from Houston where he plays for Klein Forest High School. Watkins holds offers from multiple Division I schools, and Texas A&M, Oregon and Michigan were all considered to be in the running to land him.

LSU currently has three wide receiver commitments for the 2024 class, four-stars [autotag]Joseph Stone[/autotag] and [autotag]Michael Turner[/autotag], and three-star [autotag]Kylan Billiot[/autotag]. The Tigers class currently ranks as the No. 8 class in the country according to 247Sports.

With [autotag]Kyren Lacy[/autotag] and possibly [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag] moving on after next fall, [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] is trying to find some guys that can fill the void that those two players will leave.

There are promising guys on the team already ([autotag]Aaron Anderson[/autotag] and [autotag]Shelton Sampson Jr.[/autotag]) who can try to fill those roles, but you never know if any players will live up to their full potential.

NEW: 4-star receiver Michael Turner commits to LSU

After picking up an offer last weekend, the New Orleans native wasted little time deciding where he wanted to play college ball.

LSU continues to do a good job of landing top in-state talent under Brian Kelly.

On Saturday night, the Tigers added another in-state commitment in the 2024 class in four-star New Orleans John Curtis receiver [autotag]Michael Turner[/autotag]. Ranked as the No. 398 player nationally by On3, Turner is the No. 9 overall prospect in the state of Louisiana.

Adding Turner helps ease the pain of several decommitments this week. The Tigers lost linebacker [autotag]Maurice Williams[/autotag] earlier in the week, and cornerback [autotag]Zion Ferguson[/autotag] decommitted on Sunday morning.

Turner received an offer last weekend while attending a camp in Baton Rouge, and it didn’t take long for the New Orleans native to decide where he wanted to play college ball.

Turner is one of three receiver commitments in LSU’s class joining the recently committed [autotag]Kylan Billiot[/autotag] and [autotag]Joseph Stone[/autotag], who shut down his commitment after taking official visits with several other schools earlier this month.

The Tigers’ 17-man recruiting class currently ranks eighth nationally per 247Sports and 13th per On3.

Where LSU stands in ESPN’s updated 2024 recruiting rankings

LSU added three players to its now 18-man recruiting class in the month of June.

The month of June treated the Tigers well on the recruiting trail.

LSU added a pair of blue-chip players in the secondary to the 2024 class in four-star cornerback [autotag]Ondre Evans[/autotag] and safety [autotag]Joel Rogers[/autotag]. Coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] also secured the commitment of three-star receiver [autotag]Kylan Billiot[/autotag], while receiver [autotag]Joseph Stone[/autotag] shut down his recruitment.

It wasn’t all good news this month as four-star tight end [autotag]Tayvion Galloway[/autotag] decommitted, but LSU remains in a good spot for this cycle as we get into the heat of the summer.

ESPN recently released its updated recruiting rankings for 2024, and LSU’s class sits at No. 7.

ESPN 300 commits: 7 | Previous ranking: 5

SEC rank: 3 of 14
Top offensive commit: TE Trey’Dez Green (No. 105)
Top defensive commit: S Maurice Williams (No. 129)

Brian Kelly’s first full class at the helm was among the best in the country. He has the Tigers recruiting at a high level again for 2024, securing his QB last fall in Colin Hurley, a passer with an arm that can create on the move and make off-platform throws. After signing three four-stars out of Texas, they continue to pull defensive talent out of the Lone Star State, now in ESPN 300 defender Maurice Williams. Several key pickups are from important in-state recruiting pool. TE Trey’Dez Green is a big receiving target with elite length, fluidity and a frame to further develop as a red zone threat. LB Kolaj Cobbins and safety Joel Rogers are among the top five prospects in Louisiana.

Talent acquisition — both through the transfer portal and high school recruiting — has been a strength since Kelly arrived in Baton Rouge. He’ll hope to close things out strong as LSU still has several top uncommitted options on the table.

LSU commit Joseph Stone says his recruitment is shut down

Receiver Joseph Stone was set to take an official visit to Texas this weekend, but now that trip is off.

Four-star 2024 Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes receiver [autotag]Joseph Stone[/autotag] has been committed to LSU since last July, but that pledge has felt a bit tenuous in recent months.

Stone has taken recent trips to Louisville and UCF with positive things to say about both, and he was set to officially visit Texas, as well, this weekend.

Now, that trip is off. According to On3’s Billy Embody, Stone has officially shut down his recruitment and will instead take an official visit to Baton Rouge this weekend.

It’s been a good week on the recruiting trail for coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] and the staff. After losing tight end [autotag]Tayvion Galloway[/autotag], LSU added three new commitments in defensive backs [autotag]Joel Rogers[/autotag] and [autotag]Ondre Evans[/autotag] as well as receiver [autotag]Kylan Billiot[/autotag].

Now, the Tigers will also keep Stone — the No. 279 prospect in the 2024 class, per 247Sports — on board. LSU already has 17 commitments, but with a few big-time targets still available, the Tigers will enter the summer with a lot of momentum as they look to add to a class that already ranks in the top five.

Recently offered 3-star receiver commits to LSU

LSU has now landed eight of the top 16 players in the state of Louisiana for the 2024 class.

LSU added its 17th commitment in the 2024 class on Wednesday when recently offered Houma (La.) Terrebonne receiver [autotag]Kylan Billiot[/autotag] announced his commitment to the Tigers.

The three-star prospect chose LSU over an offer list that mostly includes Group of Five programs like Memphis, Louisiana and Arkansas State. His only listed Power Five offer came from Georgia Tech.

However, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound prospect is seeing his stock rise. He impressed LSU’s coaching staff while attending the 7-on-7 camp this weekend, and he swiftly earned an offer.

Billiot — the No. 533 overall prospect nationally and No. 13 player in Louisiana — wasted little time committing to the in-state Tigers.

With Billiot’s commitment, LSU’s 2024 class now ranks fifth nationally according to 247Sports and ninth according to On3. LSU has now landed eight of the top 16 players in the state of Louisiana with the commitments of Billiot and [autotag]Joel Rogers[/autotag] this week.
