Spartans offer 2025 4-star Texas RB Michael Turner

Michigan State football has extended a scholarship offer to a major running back prospect in the 2025 class

Michigan State football has extended a scholarship offer to a major running back prospect in the 2025 class.

Michael Turner of North Richland Hills, Texas announced on Friday that he’s received a scholarship offer from the Spartans. Turner is a four-star running back in the 2025 class.

Turner ranks as the No. 11 running back and No. 156 overall prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings for the 2025 class. He’s also listed as the No. 25 player from Texas.

Michigan State is one of nearly 20 programs to already extend Turner an offer. Other notable schools to offer Turner includes Arizona, Baylor, Colorado, Florida, Houston, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech, SMU and Wisconsin.

LSU receives prediction for 4-star 2024 wide receiver

Jelani Watkins could be heading to Baton Rouge, based on this recent projection.

On3 LSU insider Shea Dixon has predicted that 2024 four-star wide receiver Jelani Watkins will commit to LSU.

Watkins is a 5-foot-9, 150-pound speedster from Houston where he plays for Klein Forest High School. Watkins holds offers from multiple Division I schools, and Texas A&M, Oregon and Michigan were all considered to be in the running to land him.

LSU currently has three wide receiver commitments for the 2024 class, four-stars [autotag]Joseph Stone[/autotag] and [autotag]Michael Turner[/autotag], and three-star [autotag]Kylan Billiot[/autotag]. The Tigers class currently ranks as the No. 8 class in the country according to 247Sports.

With [autotag]Kyren Lacy[/autotag] and possibly [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag] moving on after next fall, [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] is trying to find some guys that can fill the void that those two players will leave.

There are promising guys on the team already ([autotag]Aaron Anderson[/autotag] and [autotag]Shelton Sampson Jr.[/autotag]) who can try to fill those roles, but you never know if any players will live up to their full potential.

NEW: 4-star receiver Michael Turner commits to LSU

After picking up an offer last weekend, the New Orleans native wasted little time deciding where he wanted to play college ball.

LSU continues to do a good job of landing top in-state talent under Brian Kelly.

On Saturday night, the Tigers added another in-state commitment in the 2024 class in four-star New Orleans John Curtis receiver [autotag]Michael Turner[/autotag]. Ranked as the No. 398 player nationally by On3, Turner is the No. 9 overall prospect in the state of Louisiana.

Adding Turner helps ease the pain of several decommitments this week. The Tigers lost linebacker [autotag]Maurice Williams[/autotag] earlier in the week, and cornerback [autotag]Zion Ferguson[/autotag] decommitted on Sunday morning.

Turner received an offer last weekend while attending a camp in Baton Rouge, and it didn’t take long for the New Orleans native to decide where he wanted to play college ball.

Turner is one of three receiver commitments in LSU’s class joining the recently committed [autotag]Kylan Billiot[/autotag] and [autotag]Joseph Stone[/autotag], who shut down his commitment after taking official visits with several other schools earlier this month.

The Tigers’ 17-man recruiting class currently ranks eighth nationally per 247Sports and 13th per On3.

Gators on top for rising Louisiana WR, first visit scheduled

Billy Napier and his staff are always looking for talent in the state of Louisiana, and wide receiver Michael Turner fits the bill. He’ll get his first look at the Swamp in June.

Things are moving fairly quickly between the University of Florida and John Curtis High (River Ridge, Louisiana) wide receiver [autotag]Michael Turner[/autotag].

The Gators offered Turner a scholarship on April 18 and he’s quickly moved the program near the top of this list. Turner plans to make his first trip to the Swamp on June 24, according to a Gators Online report. This won’t be just any regular visit, though. Turner is using an official visit on Florida.

A month ago, Turner said that Florida was his top program. Things may have changed after other offers came in, but Turner quickly scheduling an official visit with the Gators is a strong sign that UF remains out in front.

The On3 recruiting prediction machine gives the Gators 58.9% odds to land him, with Ole Miss in a distant second place with 18.3% odds.

Wide receivers coach Billy Gonzalez and running backs coach Jabbar Juluke are his main points of contact.

Turner is a four-star recruit by 247Sports’ measure and a three-star receiver by On3’s scale. His industry ranking, which uses a weighted average of the major services to reach a consensus, has him at three stars and No. 401 nationally in the class of 2024. He’s also No. 68 among wide receivers and No. 9 among players from the state of Louisiana.

Florida football ‘number one right now’ for this blue-chip wide receiver

Florida football gets out in front for the recruitment of this Louisiana pass-catcher.

Florida football extended a scholarship offer to four-star wide receiver Michael Turner out of New Orleans (Louisiana) John Curtis on Tuesday and got a superlatively positive reaction from the young prep prospect. Upon receiving the offer, the 6-foot-1-inch, 175-pound pass-catcher was ecstatic about the possibility of wearing the Orange and Blue.

“I am not going to lie, UF is number one right now,” he told Swamp247’s Blake Alderman. “It’s just a major school. I never thought a school like this would come recruit me, so I was like, ‘woah’. I had to make them number one.”

Carter’s recruitment was led by the tandem effort from running backs coach Jabbar Juluke and wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales. The two were able to connect on a personal level with the bayou boy.

“Coach Juluke was real cool dude. He’s from New Orleans, and was telling me how he recruits that area and how he went to Karr and how Karr is coming out with this movie and how he got to watch it. Coach Gonzales was asking me more questions about me. Asking me how my grades are, about my mom and my dad, if I had some brothers and sisters, when I was thinking about committing to a college. I like people who ask me things about my family, how I am doing, and about me. It makes me feel like they care about me. Not like they want me to just come play football, but actually care about me.”

The high school junior, who currently holds 17 offers, has a visit planned for the coming weekend with the LSU Tigers followed by a trip out to see the Nebraska Cornhuskers the next weekend. He has yet to set a Florida visit date, but presumably, one will be set for the summer soon.

Turner is rated at four stars and ranked No. 22 overall at the athlete position and No. 7 overall in his state according to 247Sports while the On3 industry rates him at three stars and has him ranked at No. 83 among wide receivers nationally and No. 13 overall in his state.

On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine gives the Ole Miss Rebels a 50% chance of landing him, followed by the Tulane Green Wave, Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns and Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks at 4.0%, 3.4% and 2.8%, respectively.

Chicago White Sox agree to terms with Michael Turner

Turner is set to join teammate Peyton Pallette in the White Sox organization

He may have only spent one season in Arkansas, but, wow, what a season it was.

[autotag]Michael Turner[/autotag], who transferred to Arkansas from Kent State ahead of the 2022 season, has officially signed a rookie deal with the Chicago White Sox, ending his career as a Razorback after one season.

According to Jim Callis of MLB Pipeline, the White Sox have signed Turner to a money-saving deal worth $35,000.

Turner was taken in the 9th round by the Chicago White Sox in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, becoming the second Razorback to the selected by the White Sox, joining RHP [autotag]Peyton Pallette[/autotag].

He became the seventh player from Arkansas selected out of nine overall. Those drafted before Turner have all signed with their respective organizations at the time of this post, with the exception of [autotag]Cayden Wallace[/autotag], who was drafted by the Kansas City Royals at No. 49 overall.

Turner enjoyed his best season in a college uniform at Arkansas in 2022 in a myriad of ways. He set career bests in RBI (53), walks (27), doubles (17), hits (83), at-bats (257), home runs (9), and total bases (129).

Arkansas adds a Division I catcher via transfer portal

Arkansas lost all three catchers in the offseason and has since added three via transfer.

Just a few short weeks ago, Arkansas baseball had lost all three of its catchers from the 2022 College World Series. Now, it’s added three.

Cal Kilgore, who played last year at New Mexico State, announced he would be transferring to Arkansas for the 2023 season. Kilgore hit .250 with 11 RBI in 33 starts with the Aggies.

He’s the third catcher to transfer to the team, joining former Oklahoma catcher Hudson Polk and Eastern Oklahoma State catcher Parker Rowand.

The Hogs lost Michael Turner to exhausted eligibility this offseason. Back-up Dylan Leach transferred to Missouri. And third-stringer Max Soliz Jr. transferred, as well.

Turner was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the ninth round of the MLB Draft earlier in the week. Turner was one of nine Arkansas players to be drafted.

The Razorbacks will have lost a bulk of their position-player starters heading into next season. Only first baseman Peyton Stovall will return. He is likely to move to second base.

Michael Turner turned one year with Hogs into draft spot with White Sox

Arkansas catcher Michael Turner is third Hogs player to be taken by the Pale Hose.

Michael Turner’s one season in Arkansas was memorable.

The Razorbacks catcher transferred from Kent State before the 2021 season and proceeded to hit .323/.388/.502 and win Stillwater Regional MVP.

That performance led to Turner being selected in the ninth round of the 2022 MLB draft by the Chicago White Sox, becoming the third Arkansas-related player taken by the organization through the first two days of the draft. Peyton Pallette and Jordan Sprinkle, who announced his transfer destination as Arkansas from Cal-Santa Barbara just over a week ago, were taken earlier.

Turner was Arkansas’ seventh player taken overall, which is the most in school history within the first 10 rounds.

Turner’s most recognition nationally came after the SEC Tournament when local sports radio host Derek Ruscin had unkind words about him after the Diamond Hogs were eliminated in two games, earning Ruscin a suspension.

Turner followed the SEC Tournament with an 8-for-18 performance at the Stillwater Regional where he had two walks, two home runs, a double, nine RBIs and seven runs.

Diamond Hogs will have a battle for starting catcher in 2023 after landing transfer from portal

Former OU catcher Hudson Polk will join Arkansas for the 2023 season.

Arkansas will have a battle for next year’s starting catcher position.

After receiving the commitment of Parker Rowand from Eastern Oklahoma earlier this summer, coach Dave Van Horn and the Razorbacks landed another transfer via the portal this week.

Former Oklahoma catcher Hudson Polk will join the Diamond Hogs in the fall. Polk, a rising junior, hit .313 as the No. 2 catcher with the Sooners last year as Oklahoma made the national championship series at the College World Series before falling to Ole Miss, the team that knocked out Arkansas.

Arkansas lost all three of its catchers off the 2022 roster as Michael Turner’s eligibility was exhausted and both Dylan Leach and Max Soliz Jr. entered the transfer portal.

Van Horn had said at his end-of-season press conference that he was not concerned about the catching position at the time even though no commitments had yet been made public.

Polk is the sixth known Division-I transfer to join the Razorbacks since summer began. Arkansas is likely to return just one position-player starter in 2023. Peyton Stovall is expected to shift from starting at first base to starting at second.

Arkansas also has 10 junior-college commitments plus its incoming high-school recruiting class to help refresh the roster.

No returning catchers? No problem for Arkansas baseball

Michael Turner, Dylan Leach and Max Soliz Jr. are all gone from the Arkansas baseball team, so Dave Van Horn is back-filling the catcher position.

Michael Turner will go down as one of the most memorable Arkansas baseball players of the generation.

Dylan Leach will be remembered for hitting for an Arkansas rarity – a cycle – during his time with the Razorbacks.

Max Soliz Jr. was on the roster, too.

All three of Arkansas’ listed catchers for the 2022 season are gone for the 2023 season. Leach and Soliz have transferred away and Turner is off to try his hand in the professional ranks.

But Diamond Hogs coach Dave Van Horn isn’t concerned about what he has behind the plate in 2023.

Parker Rowand, who played at Arkansas State before hitting over .400 this year at Eastern Oklahoma State, has committed to play for the Razorbacks next year. Van Horn said the team had also received a commitment from another catcher, but he wasn’t at liberty to say who because the player has yet to make it public.

He may not be done, either.

“We’re still looking for another guy that maybe he’s an outfielder, right fielder that also can catch,” Van Horn said. “It’s a secondary position because you’d like to have three.”
