The Baltimore Ravens traveled to the Meadowlands on Sunday for a Week 6 matchup with the New York Giants. One veteran player who was not on the Ravens roster last season scored his first touchdown as a member of the team on Sunday.

With under ten minutes left in the second quarter, Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson handed the ball off to running back Kenyan Drake. Drake rushed up the middle and moved to the right side of the field while taking the football into the end zone for a 30-yard touchdown run in which he went completely untouched.

The Ravens signed Drake right before the year began with the uncertainty of when running backs J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards would be ready to suit up. With Dobbins back on the field and Edwards nearing a return, Drake’s touches could become limited, but when the veteran has touched the ball recently, good things have happened.

Ravens announce inactives for Week 4 vs. Bills

The Ravens announced inactives for their Week 4 matchup with the Bills

The Baltimore Ravens will take on the Buffalo Bills to open in Week 4 on Sunday. The Ravens suffered a number of injuries in last week’s win over the New England Patriots to key contributors, and some of them will not suit up against the Bills.

On Sunday, Baltimore released their inactives list ahead of their Week 4 matchup. The players who were listed as doubtful on the final injury report o the week will not play in Week 4, while one player that the Ravens were hoping to make his 2022 season debut will have to wait at least one more week.

After optimism leading into the week, offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley (ankle) is inactive. He hasn’t played in a game since Week 1 of 2021. The team also announced that outside linebacker Justin Houston (groin), guard Patrick Mekari (ankle), running back Kenyan Drake and cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis would not play in Week 4.

The Bills had six players listed on their inactives list, headlined by defensive linemen Ed Oliver and Jordan Phillips.

Ravens announce inactives for Week 3 vs. Patriots

The Ravens announced inactives for their Week 3 matchup vs. the Patriots on Sunday

The Baltimore Ravens will take on the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium in Week 3. The Ravens had a plethora of injuries last season before the season began. One of those players will make his 2022 season debut in Foxborough.

The Ravens released their inactives list for their Week 3 matchup with New England. Baltimore running back J.K. Dobbins will play on Sunday after it was reported on Saturday that he was expected to make his 2022 debut. Dobbins suffered a season-ending ACL injury during the 2021 preseason.

Most of the players listed were questionable to play on the team’s final injury report of the week on Friday and the Ravens have decided to rest some of that talent. It was announced on Saturday ahead of the inactives list release that offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley would miss Week 3. Stanley has not seen a snap since Week 1 of 2021. Other players who will not play on Sunday are wide receiver James Proche II, running back Kenyan Drake, cornerback Daryl Worley and defensive end Brent Urban.

The Patriots also released their inactives list, and well be missing a few key pieces.

Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins reportedly out for Week 1 vs. Jets

Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins is reportedly out for the team’s Week 1 matchup with the New York Jets

The Baltimore Ravens saw running back go down for the entirety of the 2021 season during the team’s final preseason game against the Washington Commanders. Dobbins has worked his way back from his injury, but reportedly isn’t quite ready enough to play in Week 1 against the New York Jets.

It’s been reported by multiple outlets that Dobbins won’t suit up on Sunday, which would likely lead to a running back room of Kenyan Drake, Mike Davis and Justice Hill. The team will also be without running back Gus Edwards, who was placed on the reserve/PUP list after going down for the year as well in 2021.

Once Dobbins returns, it’s likely the team will ease him back into action as he gets back to playing. That way, he can ease his way back from his severe knee injury just in case.  If Dobbins can play in a couple of weeks, that would make the Ravens’ running back depth even stronger.

Ravens HC John Harbaugh discusses signing of RB Kenyan Drake

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh talked about the team’s signing of running back Kenyan Drake

The Baltimore Ravens saw their running back room get decimated with injuries over the course of the 2021 season. They lost J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards and Justice Hill before the year began, prompting them to sign multiple veteran options.

On Wednesday, the team officially announced the signing of running back Kenyan Drake, who was released by the Las Vegas Raiders just a few weeks prior. Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh was asked about Drake and what he can bring to the table, mentioning his pass protection as well as what he brings as a pass catcher out of the backfield.

“Kenyan Drake joined us today, and he’s a back who has had a lot of exciting plays in this league. He’s a big, strong, fast, kind of slasher-type back [with] experience in pass protection. [He] catches the ball well out of the back field. [He’s] a great guy, in talking to him. So, he’ll be taking more of the next four days to get up to speed and get ready to go.”

Drake provides the Ravens with another veteran running back option while Dobbins and Edwards continue to work back from injuries. The former Alabama star has accumulated almost 5,000 total yards in his seven year career, showing his versatility such as a runner or a pass catcher

Revisiting the Baltimore Ravens’ backfield in fantasy football

A reshaped Ravens’ RB stable requires a fresh look.

While we looked at the Baltimore Ravens’ backfield earlier in the offseason, enough changes have happened to warrant another peek. With that in mind, let’s dive back in and update the Ravens’ backfield situation as we head into the start of the 2022 campaign.

Ravens sign former Alabama RB Kenyan Drake after he was recently released by the Ravens

Former Alabama running back Kenyan Drake has agreed to a deal with the Baltimore Ravens.

On Wednesday, former Alabama running Kenyan Drake signed with the Baltimore Ravens. NFL insider Ian Rapoport was the first to report the news. It comes just over a week after he was released by the Las Vegas Raiders.

Since entering the league in 2016, Drake has played for three different teams with the Ravens being the fourth. Out of college, he was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the third round. He spent four seasons with the Dolphins organization. He had 333 carries for 1,352 yards and nine rushing touchdowns. Not to mention, he also hauled in 116 receptions for 935 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns.

In 2020, he was dealt to the Arizona Cardinals for a conditional pick in the draft. Drake went on to spend two seasons in Glendale. There, he had 362 carries for 1,598 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns.

He then joined the Raiders in 2021 and served as a backup for former Alabama running back Josh Jacobs. His role was relatively similar to his tenure in Miami. He had 63 rushes for 254 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. After being released, he has since signed with the Ravens.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Drake’s professional career and other former Alabama NFL players.

Physical of free agent RB Kenyan Drake with Ravens reportedly ‘seamless’, expected to sign on Wednesday

The physical of free agent running back Kenyan Drake with the Ravens was reportedly “seamless”

The Baltimore Ravens have been one of the most run-heavy teams in the NFL ever since quarterback Lamar Jackson took over starter duties in 2018. Jackson has extreme talent with both his arm and his legs, and Baltimore has taken advantage by building one of the best offenses in the league.

The Ravens’ running back room was hit hard by injuries in 2021, and with players such as J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards still working their way back from serious ailments, the team is reportedly expected to sign free agent running back Kenyan Drake. After the news broke, Josina Anderson of CBS Sports reported that the running back’s physical with Baltimore went “seamless”, and is expected to put pen to paper on Wednesday.

Drake is expected to slot in with other running backs such as Dobbins, Mike Davis and Justice Hill. The veteran has has success over the course of his NFL career, and could provide plenty as both a runner and a pass catcher to an offense that is looking to get back on track.

Former Raiders RB Kenyan Drake catches on with Ravens

Former Raiders RB Kenyan Drake catches on with Ravens

One of the surprise early cuts by the Raiders, Kenyan Drake figured to find another team that wanted to take him on. On the same days as teams around the NFL made their final roster cuts, the Ravens added Drake to their backfield.

Drake had been hinting at the move since yesterday. First when he tweeted EST (Eastern Standard Time) and a plane landing emoji.

Then five minutes later, that he hadn’t had a real winter since he entered the league, having played in three warm weather cities in Miami, Phoenix, and Las Vegas. The Georgia native attended Alabama for college, so, technically he’s never played football at any level in a city with real winters.

Then today the purple devil emoji soon after reports came out of his impending signing.

Drake spent just one season with the Raiders. He was a questionable signing from the jump. Then he was used somewhat sparingly, especially considering the sizable contract he got.

This offseason, he agreed to a restructured deal, then saw the Raiders draft two running backs and sign two more. These moves made him feel like the new coaching staff had no intention of keeping him and thus didn’t appear to be putting forth much effort in the preseason. A self-fulfilling prophecy.

Free agent RB Kenyan Drake tweets emoji amidst expected signing with Ravens

Free agent running back Kenyan Drake posted an emoji amist his expected signing with the Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens had plenty of injuries throughout the 2021 season. One of the positions that got hit the hardest was at running back, where J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards and Justice Hill didn’t play a snap all year due to the injuries they suffered right before the season began.

There were big expectations for both Dobbins as well as Edwards, and now both are working their way back to full strength. However, that doesn’t mean the team isn’t exploring options at the position to carry the load until they get back.

On Tuesday, it was widely reported that Baltimore is expected to sign running back Kenyan Drake pending the results of a physical. After the news was made known, Drake took to Twitter and posted a single emoji, potentially signaling his excitement for his next career move.

Assuming he’s officially brought in, Drake should provide a solid option in the backfield alongside the rest of the team’s depth. He’s sound both as a runner and as a pass catcher, also holding up in pass protection against blitzing defenders.
