Drew Brees’ 69-yard TD pass to Kenny Stills is the Saints Play of the Day

It’s a throwback to 2013. Drew Brees’ 69-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Stills is the New Orleans Saints Play of the Day:

We’re taking the time machine back to 2013 for our New Orleans Saints Play of the Day while counting down to kickoff in 2024. Facing the Buffalo Bills at midseason, Drew Brees found a mismatch in coverage and hit rookie wide receiver Kenny Stills with outside linebacker Jerry Hughes trailing him down the sideline.

It wasn’t much of a footrace after that. Stills streaked ahead of Hughes to walk into the end zone untouched for a go-ahead touchdown, and the Saints poured it on. Jimmy Graham caught back-to-back touchdown passes, and Stills scored again from 42 yards out to seal a 35-17 blowout win.

While he was only targeted four times on the afternoon, Stills finished the game with three receptions for 129 yards. Brees was in vintage form; his final passing line included 26 completions on 34 attempts, gaining 332 yards with five touchdown passes. He was sacked four times (including once by Hughes) but remained cool under pressure, and the Bills couldn’t keep pace with him. We’ll see a couple of those throws in his highlight reel when Brees is inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in a few years.

Nic Anderson continues to show what he can be going forward for the Oklahoma Sooners

Nic Anderson was plagued by injuries a year ago but now he’s making the most of every opportunity.

For only the second time in program history, the Oklahoma Sooners had three 100-yard receivers in a game. [autotag]Nic Anderson[/autotag], [autotag]Jalil Farooq[/autotag] and [autotag]Andrel Anthony[/autotag] all went over 100 yards vs. the [autotag]Tulsa Golden Hurricane[/autotag].

The only other time this has been done was Bedlam in 2012. That was an overtime thriller in Norman the Sooners eventually won when [autotag]Jalen Saunders[/autotag], [autotag]Kenny Stills[/autotag] and [autotag]Justin Brown[/autotag] all surpassed 100 yards.

Hearing Anthony and Farooq went over the century mark shouldn’t be a surprise. They are both starters and a pair of players many thought would have an important role in the offense.

Anderson however is a backup but someone who has a lot of potential. He was hit with the injury bug in his first season, but is healthy and rolling. He talked to reporters after practice on Tuesday about his performance.

“I just trusted in my teammates and the coaches’ plan,” Anderson said. “The gameplan was great. Lebby was really trying to air it out that game and everybody got a chance to touch the ball.”

Anderson channeled his inner Randy Moss with three catches for 120 yards and three touchdowns. All three of the touchdowns showed something different.

The first one showed his great speed as he ran past the defender. The second one showed his route running to come back to the ball and then his ability after the catch with a nice stiff arm, which freed him up to take it to the house. The third one showed the speed but also the strength, as he basically carried the Golden Hurricane defender about 10 yards to the endzone.

The Sooners traditionally play three wide receivers at all times. It’s hard to take Anthony, Stoops, or Farooq off the field. But if Anderson continues to play like this, they are going to have to find ways to get him on the field more.

Breaking down every Round 5 Saints draft pick since 2002

Breaking down every Round 5 Saints draft pick since 2002, from Mike Karney and Rob Ninkovich to Thomas Morstead and Kenny Stills:

We’re continuing our trek through New Orleans Saints draft history with a look at their picks in the fifth round under general manager Mickey Loomis, who has held his post since 2002 — making him the longest-tenured GM in the game.

And the Saints have a spotty track record in Round 5 under Loomis. Of the 20 players he’s picked in this round, only two of them have earned Pro Bowl recognition. Hopefully they can begin to reverse that trend:

Browns Morning Roundup: Week 5 gameday edition vs. Chargers

Did you miss yesterday’s news around the Browns? No worries, we’ve got you covered.

It is gameday Cleveland Browns fans! As the Los Angeles Chargers start to trickle into FirstEnergy Stadium, and before the inactives lists drop, let’s get caught up on what we might have missed from yesterday with a gameday edition of Browns Morning Roundup.

It was a relatively busy day in Browns land as far as news was concerned as they made a couple gameday roster elevations, plus a big one they did not make. We even have a free agent receiver using his Twitter as a way to vouch for a spot on the roster in Cleveland.

There will be plenty to get to today, but first here is what you missed from a day ago.

WR Kenny Stills reacts to potential with Browns on Twitter

Wide receiver Kenny Stills was not shy about his desire to play for the Browns on Twitter

The Cleveland Browns held a ten player workout on Friday that included veteran wide receiver Kenny Stills. Stills is interesting in part because of his previous experience playing with Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson. The 30-year-old Stills was taken in the fifth round of the 2013 draft and is 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds.

Stills played for two seasons with Watson in Houston. His best season with Watson came in 2019 when he caught 40 balls for 561 yards and for touchdowns. In 2020, he did not start any games for the Texans and caught only 11 passes for 144 yards and a touchdown.

He has only played in 23 games over the last two seasons and hasn’t accumulated much in terms of statistics, catching only 17 passes for 202 yards over that period. The workout went well but won’t result in employment with the Browns, according to Brad Stainbrook.

After his workout, Stills wasn’t shy about commenting on the idea of playing for the Browns as he posted on Twitter about potentially teaming up with Cleveland’s wide receivers when a fan was posting about wanting Stills to catch on with the Browns.

Despite his public enthusiasm it doesn’t appear that he will be wearing the orange and brown in the immediate future.

Browns Morning Roundup: Keenan Allen, Kenny Stills, and the return of Jadeveon Clowney

Did you miss yesterday’s Browns action? No worries, we’ve got you covered.

Did you miss yesterday’s Cleveland Browns action? No worries, we have you covered as we will continue to bring you these Browns Morning Roundups to gather all of the news from the day before in one article the next morning.

It was quite a busy day for the Browns as final injury reports were released, they held a good-sized group of players for tryouts, and a bit more action. We are also now just one day away from the Los Angeles Chargers arriving at FirstEnergy Stadium for their Week 5 showdown with the Browns.

Before we get to gameday, what did you miss from Friday?

Browns host 10 players for workouts on Friday including Kenny Stills

The Browns hosted 10 free agents for tryouts today, including veteran wide receiver Kenny Stills

We found out earlier this morning the Cleveland Browns were hosting former Buffalo Bills’ defensive tackle Prince Emili. However, it turns out the Browns actually hosted 10 players today, and one of them was veteran wide receiver Kenny Stills.

All-in-all, the Browns hosted a quarterback, an offensive tackle, three defensive tackles, two running backs, and three wide receivers. The three defensive tackles are the clear emphasis here, especially after the Cleveland defensive interior was torn to shreds against the Atlanta Falcons.

We take a look here at each of the ten players and give a bit of background on each of them.

Saints’ free agents who remain unsigned after minicamp

Kwon Alexander among Saints’ free agents who remain unsigned after minicamp:

The biggest waves of NFL free agency are well behind us, but some former New Orleans Saints players are still looking for a team in 2022. We last surveyed the field back in April, before the NFL draft and a second wave of free agent activity shook up the league’s landscape, but the close of Saints minicamp practices is a good opportunity to check in on everyone.

There have been some changes in recent months: the New York Giants signed defensive lineman Jalyn Holmes, center/guard Will Clapp joined the Los Angeles Chargers, and linebacker Chase Hansen ended up with the Atlanta Falcons, while defensive tackle Ethan Westbrooks is now playing with the USFL’s Michigan Panthers.

That leaves ten unsigned free agents who finished the 2021 season with New Orleans, with the most notable name on the list being linebacker Kwon Alexander (who totaled 538 snaps played last year, 535 of them on defense and 3 on special teams). Let’s run through the list:

Sooners of the past descending on Norman for Oklahoma’s 2022 Spring Game

Oklahoma’s Spring Game will welcome in the Brent Venables era, but also welcome back a number of past Oklahoma Sooners’ greats.

The 2022 Oklahoma Spring game will represent the first time fans will get an opportunity to see [autotag]Brent Venables[/autotag]’ Sooners take the field. And as the current roster puts in the final touches on spring ball before breaking till fall camp, Oklahoma will also welcome in a bevy of recruits they hope to convince to be future Sooners.

Helping the football program sell the University of Oklahoma will be Sooners greats of the past. In a strong social media campaign, dozens of former players let it be known on Twitter that they’ll be in Norman for the Oklahoma Sooners Spring Game.

It’s a who’s who of the past, including the man who will be immortalized in Heisman Park on Saturday, [autotag]Baker Mayfield[/autotag].

Mayfield was in Norman on Friday, spending time with the team and at the facility before the unveiling of his Heisman statue during tomorrow’s festivities.

From [autotag]Jason White[/autotag] to Baker Mayfield and [autotag]Dusty Dvoracek[/autotag] to [autotag]Neville Gallimore[/autotag], here are some of the Oklahoma greats that will be in attendance as Brent Venables’ team takes the field in front of Sooner Nation for the first time.

Here are the 14 Saints remaining unsigned free agents

Here are the 14 New Orleans Saints remaining unsigned free agents, including Kwon Alexander, Christian Ringo, and Kenny Stills, via @RossJacksonNOLA:

The first couple of waves of free agency signings have passed over the NFL, and there are 14 New Orleans Saints free agents who remain available. Of the group, there are a handful that would make a lot of sense for the team to bring back. Others will hopefully find more opportunities elsewhere. Some of these players weren’t in New Orleans long enough to get a photo in a Saints uniform.

With the 2022 NFL draft right around the corner, the Saints may look to continue to invest in familiarity over new blood. That means the team’s next free agency move could be a reunion with a player on this list. Here are the Saints’ remaining free agents as the market continues to settle:
