Analyzing the terms of new Dolphins DL Neville Gallimore’s contract

Here’s what new Dolphins DL Neville Gallimore’s contract looks like.

Entering the offseason, the Miami Dolphins had two key players along their defensive line set to hit the market – Christian Wilkins and Raekwon Davis. With that knowledge, the team had to attack defensive tackle this offseason, and they signed a number of free agents at the position, including Neville Gallimore.

Gallimore, 27, agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.79 million to join the Dolphins after spending his first four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.

According to Over the Cap, Gallimore will receive a $1.13 million base salary (fully guaranteed) and a $665,000 bonus at signing. His cap number for the 2024 season is $1.79 million.

There’s a strong chance that the former Oklahoma Sooner will be on the roster at the start of the regular season, considering Miami doesn’t save any money if they were to release him and would incur a dead-cap hit of $1.79 million.

Replacing Wilkins and Davis won’t be an easy task, but the Dolphins seem to be trying to do so by committee with the signings of Benito Jones and Johnathan Harris as well as the re-signing of Da’Shawn Hand.

Cowboys DT Neville Gallimore to sign with Miami

From @ToddBrock24f7: The native-born Canadian, a third-round draft pick out of Oklahoma, will head to South Beach on a reported one-year deal.

The defensive defection in Dallas continued Wednesday.

This time, it was defensive tackle Neville Gallimore, who has agreed to a new contract with Miami, as first reported by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport. The 27-year-old will accept what’s said to be a one-year deal to join the Dolphins, who ranked as a top-10 unit in yards allowed last season and finished third leaguewide in both quarterback sacks and pressures.

Gallimore was a third-round draft pick by the Cowboys in 2020 out of Oklahoma. The Canadian-born big man got into 14 games as a rookie and then saw action in 41 more (including playoffs) over four seasons with the club.

Gallimore leaves Dallas with 90 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 9 QB hits, four sacks, and three passes defended on his résumé.

Dolphins are expected to sign DL Neville Gallimore

Miami adds a third free agent defensive lineman.

The Miami Dolphins have put a lot of time and effort into signing players to compete for snaps at defensive tackle during the team’s offseason program.

On Wednesday, Miami added another defensive lineman to the battle, as they signed former Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Neville Gallimore, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Gallimore, 27, was selected by the Cowboys in the third round of the 2020 NFL draft following a collegiate career at Oklahoma that included a Second-team All-Big 12 final season.

In four years with Dallas, Gallimore has appeared in 52 games, recording 90 tackles (11 for a loss), nine quarterback hits, four sacks and three passes defensed.

He’ll compete with the recently signed duo of Isaiah Mack and Daviyon Nixon as well as 2023 undrafted free agent Brandon Pili for snaps behind (and potentially alongside) Zach Sieler.

11 former Oklahoma Sooners to watch during NFL Wild Card weekend

Want to know what former Sooners will be competing this weekend? We’ve got you covered.

The Oklahoma Sooners are known for putting players in the NFL. In fact, Oklahoma ranked in the top 10 for most players on an NFL roster on opening day this season and led the Big 12 in that stat.

The NFL playoffs are finally upon us with several former players who donned the Crimson and Cream playing this weekend. Whether it’s the redemption story of [autotag]Baker Mayfield[/autotag], the continued Hall of Fame career of [autotag]Lane Johnson[/autotag] or solidifying his place as one of the top receivers in the game of football today in [autotag]CeeDee Lamb[/autotag], there are a ton of storylines for Sooner fans to watch.

So, without further adieu, let’s take a look at the former Sooners playing this weekend in order of when their game will be played.

Cowboys DT Neville Gallimore fined almost $10K for late-game kick vs Giants

From @ToddBrock24f7: The 4th-year defensive tackle actually got off light; the fact that he has so few penalties over his career may have played into his favor.

In the waning moments of last week’s 49-17 win, Neville Gallimore took an uncharacteristic cheap shot at a Giants opponent. It won’t be cheap for the Cowboys defensive tackle, however, to make amends in the eyes of the league.

Gallimore was fined $9,754 for kicking Giants guard Justin Pugh in the groin after a third-down play late in the Week 10 victory. Gallimore was ejected from the game with less than a minute to play; the 15-yard penalty extended a garbage-time touchdown drive and allowed New York to make the final score a little less embarrassing.

On the play, Gallimore had fallen into the back of Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito’s legs. Pugh took offense and gave the fourth-year Oklahoma product a retaliatory shove while we was still on the turf. Gallimore responded by striking back with his foot at Pugh, who was still standing over him.

As is so often the case, officials only saw the second shot.

After the game, Pugh said he wasn’t hurt and even felt bad that the moment would end up incurring a monetary fine for Gallimore.

“Look, he hit the quarterback late. I took exception to it, I hit him. I shouldn’t have done that when he was on the ground- pushed him- and he kicked me,” Pugh said per the New York Post. “I’ve gotten in so many fights in my career, I’m not gonna cost myself money. He’s gonna get a FedEx, so I feel bad for him on that. I don’t want a guy to lose money. But you don’t kick somebody on a football field.”

Now that kick will cost Gallimore nearly five figures.

The fine is actually on the light side compared to those incurred by several other players in recent weeks. That may be because Gallimore is not a repeat offender; in fact, the former third-round draft pick has drawn just four flags of any type through 44 game appearances.

Cowboys’ Neville Gallimore ejected from game for kicking Giants’ Justin Pugh in groin

Neville Galimore of the Cowboys kicked the Giants’ Justin Pugh in the groin

The game on Sunday between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys had long been decided. Neville Gallimore of the Cowboys used poor judgment in its final minutes and it will cost him, a fine for sure and possibly more.

Galimore came close to sacking Giants QB Tommy DeVito. He came up short but knocked the third-string QB down.

Big Blue offensive lineman Justin Pugh took offense and pushed Galimore.

The Cowboys’ defensive lineman reacted in an ill-advised manner, kicking Pugh in the groin.

Gallimore was ejected from the game. We’re sure he will be hearing from the league office this week.

Cowboys teammates, including Kansas alum troll Neville Gallimore during Dallas win over Rams

During the Cowboys win over Los Angeles, Neville Gallimore was trolled by Dallas teammates after OU’s loss to Kansas.

The Oklahoma Sooners hadn’t lost to the [autotag]Kansas Jayhawks[/autotag] since the Clinton administration. Even though this Kansas team is much improved, and the Oklahoma Sooners are still in the midst of building the program in Brent Venables’ image, it was still a shocking result.

It was as shocking as the Sooners losing to Iowa State during the Lincoln Riley era.

Anytime an upset like this happens, you know you’re going to hear about it from your non-OU friends and family. And that happened on Sunday afternoon.

Every time the Dallas Cowboys win, they release “Sounds from the Sideline,” a video highlighting the players’ reactions to big plays and big moments. Often, the video team captures conversations between players, allowing fans to get some insight into what happens on the sidelines and the relationships between teammates.

On Sunday, during the Dallas win over Los Angeles, they captured video of former Jayhawk Dorance Armstrong and Nittany Lion Micah Parsons giving former Sooner [autotag]Neville Gallimore[/autotag] a hard time on the sideline.

Really, it was Parsons instigating things and Armstrong simply staring at Gallimore as the former Oklahoma defensive tackle ignored the taunts with attempts to focus on the game.

Armstrong didn’t really need to say anything as the Kansas Jayhawks said all they needed to on Saturday in their win over Oklahoma.

Unfortunately for Gallimore and Sooners fans, that loss is going to be hanging over their heads for who knows how long. There’s no telling if or when the Sooners and Jayhawks will meet up on the gridiron again, with Oklahoma headed to the SEC in 2024.

Though it’s a tough pill to swallow for Sooners fans, Parsons and Armstrong’s trolling of Gallimore is also what makes college football so great.

Report: Cowboys, Neville Gallimore agree to restructured contract

From @ToddBrock24f7: Gallimore will see his 2023 base salary cut by $1.2M, with the opportunity to earn much of it back in incentives.

It’s business as usual at The Star in Frisco, as the Cowboys are well into their first week of real football prep, with the regular-season opener set to kick off this Sunday night.

But the business side of the game never stops in the front office, and the Cowboys brass has done a little bookkeeping to tidy up the financial ledger.

Defensive tackle Neville Gallimore has agreed to a restructuring of his contract to free up valuable cap space, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.

The 26-year-old Oklahoma product will see his 2023 base salary drop from $2.7 million to $1.5 million, but he’ll be able to earn back $750,000 through various incentives.

Gallimore was a third-round pick in 2020’s draft and has appeared in 35 games for the Cowboys, compiling 74 tackles, three sacks, nine tackles for loss, seven quarterback hits, and two passes defended.

The restructuring is the latest accounting move by Dallas as they prepare for several big-money contracts the club has said are on their upcoming radar, including those of wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, quarterback Dak Prescott, and linebacker Micah Parsons.

7 interior defensive linemen the Seahawks could target in a trade

Before we get started, the Seahawks might want to call a quick timeout and see if they can add more depth to the interior of their defensive line.

The rosters are out. The schedule is set. Real football is about to begin. Before we get started, the Seattle Seahawks might want to call a quick timeout and see if they can add more depth to the interior of their defensive line. All offseason long upgrading the defensive line rotation has been the No. 1 priority for head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider.  Unfortunately, even after months of tinkering they still don’t seem satisfied with their current rotation and at this point in the year their options are limited.

Most of the big name free agent interior defensive linemen who are still available are well past their prime, so unless Carroll and Schneider have a time machine to go back and not sign Dre’Mont Jones so that they can draft Jalen Carter at No. 5 overall this team probably has to pull off a trade.

The best potential acquisition out there is Christian Wilkins, who’s in the midst of a contract dispute with the Miami Dolphins. Wilkins has posted 11.5 sacks, 27 quarterback hits and 33 tackles for a loss in 64 games so far, making him one of the league’s most-productive interior linemen. However, Miami seems disinclined to give him the extension he wants. Then again, Wilkins reportedly still only wants to play for the Dolphins – making this a remote possibility.

However, no harm could come from a phone call and Wilkins is an asset worth investing in. Here’s Wilkins plus six other iDL who might be available in a trade.

7 Cowboys veterans who could be on the trade block

A look at several veterans who could command a quality return in trade talks after this weekend’s exhibition finales. | From @KDDrummondNFL

Are the Dallas Cowboys a top-heavy team, or do they have the necessary depth to survive the regular-season gauntlet? It appears on paper the club has several positions where the talent is overflowing, but there are a handful where injuries could cause a major downgrade in performance. The loss of rookies DeMarvion Overshown and John Stephens in Saturday’s exhibition against Seattle proved that point.

Linebacker and tight end are two of the club’s unproven spots and thus losses there seem to be catastrophic to the club’s talent level. Still, other positions seem well prepared for the 17-week grind as long as calamity stays at bay. It feels like Dallas has the ability to move some pieces at certain positions and potentially get plug-and-play returns at other spots of need.

Dallas needs veteran depth on the offensive line, so maybe there’s a chance to flip an asset for a team looking to save cap space there and allow younger, cheaper options to ascend. Maybe there’s some veteran help for Dallas to have as a backup to the youngsters at tight end and linebacker as well. Dallas can use future draft capital to acquire said help, but player-for-player swaps can be more enticing when feasible.

Here’s a look at several players who could be on the trade block following this weekend’s preseason finale against the Raiders.
