Notre Dame Football 2023 early signing day tracker

This class didn’t waste any time getting their signatures to South Bend

It is finally upon us, the hard work the Irish football staff has put in can finally but a “bow” on the 2023 recruiting cycle. Yes, there is still another point where recruits can sign, but Marcus Freeman and his staff have already maxed out the class with verbals and if everyone signs, they will be one over the normal allotment of 25 players.

A few of the verbals didn’t waste any time faxing their information over to South Bend but they should keep coming in as the day proceeds. Find out below which Irish commitments have made their Notre Dame pledges complete. (This list will be updated as the day goes on so make sure to return.)

Friday Night Notes: New QBs for Notre Dame and Florida State, Oregon eats their fill, plus more

In this edition of Friday Night Notes, Florida State and Notre Dame get commitments from QBs, Oregon loads up and Alabama has a big weekend.

USA TODAY High School Sports‘ Friday Night Notes is a weekly high school recruiting recap that looks at the latest news from around the country—from the Class of 2023 to ’24 and beyond.

Many of the best quarterbacks from the recruiting class of 2023 have already made their college commitments. However, there are still a few potential diamonds in the rough out there. This week, Florida State and Notre Dame both picked up commitments from highly ranked QB prospects.

Florida State: Brock Glenn

On Monday Florida State pulled off a recruiting coup by flipping four-star QB Brock Glenn from Ohio State. Glenn (6-foot-2, 195 pounds) is ranked No. 23 at his position and No. 12 in the state of Tennessee. As a Junior, Glenn threw for 1,576 yards, 23 touchdowns and nine picks. He committed to the Buckeyes back in late July but the Seminoles never gave up on him.

Glenn is the ninth blue-chip prospect overall for Florida State, now ranked No. 17 in this recruiting cycle – a few points behind Arkansas. Ohio State has dropped to No. 6 behind Texas.

Notre Dame: Kenny Minchey

The Fighting Irish also managed a QB flip of their own, of sorts. Last week Kenny Minchey decommitted from Pittsburgh, and it’s now clear he had Notre Dame in his sights when he made that decision. On Tuesday, Minchey announced his new commitment:

Minchey (6-foot-1, 207 pounds) is ranked No. 12 in his class at his position and No. 254 overall in the country.

While getting Minchey was big, Notre Dame still ranks No. 3 in the recruiting race, while Pitt is all the way down at No. 50.

Here’s what else is in the notebook. Let’s get to it…

Kenny Minchey chooses Notre Dame after decommiting from Pitt

Four-star 2023 quarterback Kenny Minchey announced he’s now committed to Notre Dame.

Last week Pope John Paul II (Tenn.) four-star Senior quarterback Kenny Minchey announced his de-commitment from Pittsburgh. It didn’t take long for Minchey to choose his new school.

Yesterday, Minchey announced that he’s now committed to Notre Dame.

Minchey (6-foot-1, 207 pounds) is ranked No. 15 among quarterbacks in his class and No. 254 nationally. He only played in five games this season due to a shoulder injury but had a very strong Junior year, totaling 3,280 yards, 32 touchdowns and nine picks.

Minchey told On3 that the Fighting Irish give him the best position to succeed.

“I feel like the coaches believe in me as a player and appreciate me as a person and I think they can coach me and be able to get the best out of me… Also the players that they’re going to have around me are going to put me in the best position to succeed. The tradition the football program has along with the academics definitely stands out.”

Notre Dame now has 20 four-star recruits as well as one five-star in Guyer (Texas) safety Peyton Bowen. They still rank No. 3 in the 2023 recruiting class, but they’re now just a sliver behind No. 2 Georgia.

Scouts view: Notre Dame’s 2023 quarterback, Kenny Minchey

What are your expectations for Minchey?

As you many know by now, Notre Dame filled their biggest hole in the 2023 recruiting class today with the commitment of quarterback [autotag]Kenny Minchey[/autotag] of Tennessee. The signal caller was recently committed to Pitt, but decommitted a little over a week ago before visiting South Bend this past weekend.

The commitment was all but a foregone conclusion, as many expected Minchey to join one of the nations best groups of prospects. The quarterback also held offers from Michigan State, Tennessee, West Virginia and others. After looking over his tape, there are some very good qualities that Minchey possess but also some things he will need to work on when he arrives on campus.

Minchey possesses solid size, standing almost six-foot-two-inches and weighing 215 pounds. He uses his good athleticism well, but I wouldn’t say that he’s a dual-threat quarterback. As a passer he shows some very good footwork when moving around the pocket. Occasionally Minchey does get a bit flat-footed on some throws, but his above-average arm strength bails him out for the time being.

On the move, Minchey squares his shoulders well to make the throws but the majority of his scrambling is to his right. He is going to need to work on flipping his hips when rolling to the left to make the necessary throws. Minchey is very accurate on throws inside 20 yards and shows very good touch when he attempts deep shots.

Offensive coordinator and quarterback coach [autotag]Tommy Rees[/autotag] will need to work on firming up Minchey’s motion, as he throws from a variety of arm angles. It’s terrible, but not every quarterback is Patrick Mahomes and can get away with erratic throwing motions.

Overall, I’d expect Minchey to create solid depth and redshirt during his first year on campus. He will be behind three quarterbacks ([autotag]Tyler Buchner[/autotag], [autotag]Drew Pyne[/autotag] and [autotag]Steve Angeli[/autotag]) who already have collegiate experience so expecting him to contribute right away most likely isn’t in the cards. Minchey should be involved in the race to start in 2025, as Angeli and 2024 commit [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag] should all be vying for the job.

2023 CFB Recruiting: Notre Dame lands their quarterback!

How mad is Pat Narduzzi right now? You just hate to see it.

Where there is smoke there is fire and through the clouds of it that have been noticeable for weeks, the fire has finally been found in regards to Notre Dame finding a quarterback in their 2023 recruiting class.  Former Pitt commitment, four-star prospect [autotag]Kenny Minchey[/autotag], announced his commitment to Notre Dame on Tuesday.

Minchey announced he was dropping his commitment to Pitt last week and was on campus for Notre Dame’s drubbing of Boston College this past weekend.  This doesn’t come as a surprise based on recent events but should still be met with celebration.

Minchey is listed at 6-1, 207 pounds.  He just concluded his senior season at Pope John Paul II High School just outside Nashville, Tenn.  He chose Notre Dame after previously being committed to Pitt and holding offers from the likes of Michigan State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and others.

Minchey will be attending the All-American Bowl in January.  He becomes the 24th commitment to Notre Dame’s 2023 recruiting class as Marcus Freeman and company try to keep it all together ahead of the early signing period next month.

Meet all of Notre Dame’s 2023 recruiting class right here!

Photos of Notre Dame’s 2023 quarterback target on his official visit

Looks pretty promising for the Irish

Tennessee quarterback [autotag]Kenny Minchey[/autotag] might not end up being the traditional flip, but should still be considered one and his recruitment is trending to Notre Dame. Less than a week since he decommitted from Pittsburgh, Minchey made his official visit to South Bend this weekend. Take a look below at some of the pictures of Minchey’s visit shared on twitter.

4-star QB Kenny Minchey decommits from Pitt

Pople John Paul II (Tenn.) four-star quarterback recruit Kenny Minchey decommits from Pitt.

The University of Pittsburgh took a hit in their 2023 recruiting class on Monday when four-star quarterback Kenny Minchey announced on Twitter that he’s decommitted from the school.

Minchey (6-foot-1, 207 pounds) plays for Pope John Paul II (Tenn.), where he posted 3,280 yards, 32 touchdowns and nine interceptions his Junior season. The Knights lost their playoff matchup with Brentwood Academy (Tenn.) this past weekend, so their season is over. However, Minchey will be participating in the All-American Bowl on January 7, which will be on NBC.

According to 247 Sports, Minchey is the 12th-best quarterback in his class and No. 4 overall in the state. Steve Wiltfong reports that Notre Dame is a school to watch for Minchey, who will visit South Bend for this weekend’s game against Boston College. Minchey has 16 offers total, including ones from Memphis, Michigan State, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

The news dropped Pittsburgh to No. 44 in the 2023 recruiting rankings. Of their 16 current commits, none are four or five-star prospects and they now have no quarterback in this recruiting cycle.

Notre Dame appears about to flip big-time quarterback target

Where there’s smoke…

Notre Dame extended a scholarship offer to four-star Hendersonville (Tenn.) Pope John Paull II quarterback [autotag]Kenny Minchey[/autotag] back in September.  The thing is, Minchey committed to Pittsburgh back on April 30.  That commitment is no longer and it appears to be great news for Notre Dame.

Minchey announced Monday that he was officially ending his commitment to Pitt.

I want to thank Coach Narduzzi, Coach Cignetti, Coach Dibiaso, and the rest of the coaching staff at Pitt for believing in me and providing me with an opportunity to play college football.

After prayer and conversations with my family, I have decided to decommit from the University of Pittsburgh.

Thank you to everyone who has helped and supported me through this hard decision.

-KM4

Rumors began circulating online recently that Notre Dame was in the running to flip a 2023 quarterback.  It just so happens that Minchey is set to make an official visit to Notre Dame this weekend as the Irish host Boston College on senior day.

On3‘s Recruiting Prediction Machine now gives the Irish over a 96% chance at winning the race for Minchey.  A potential Minchey commitment would give the Irish 24 total pledges in the 2023 recruiting cycle with 21 of those having at least a four-star rating on 247Sports.

Fighting Irish Wire will keep an eye on all of this as things could soon be getting even sweeter for Notre Dame on the recruiting front.

Notre Dame’s 2023 recruiting offers: Quarterback

Reposting clearly just by coincidence this evening…

What does the future look like at quarterback for Notre Dame?

For the next few seasons, the belief and hope is it will be Tyler Buchner leading the way for the Irish. The longer-term answer isn’t as certain.

Notre Dame has had a fantastic start to its 2023 recruiting class; it ranks among the best in the nation as we approach the 2022 regular season.

That class is great and [autotag]C.J. Carr[/autotag] awaits in next year’s class, but what about the 2023 recruiting cycle at quarterback for Notre Dame? After going all in on [autotag]Dante Moore[/autotag] and falling short (thanks a lot, Oregon), do the Irish end up with a quarterback this cycle or hold off?

Here are the quarterbacks Notre Dame has offered scholarships to this cycle, where they’ve committed, and who may remain for the Irish.
