Former Georgia RB, Seattle Seahawks rookie Kenny McIntosh talks confidence as receiver

Kenny McIntosh defines a dual-threat RB…

Seattle Seahawks seventh-round draft pick Kenny McIntosh wasn’t a one-dimensional running back at Georgia.

The former four-star recruit made UGA history in his senior season of 2022 as the first player in Georgia football history to record 800 or more yards rushing and 500 or more yards receiving in a single season.

McIntosh totaled 1,582 yards rushing on 279 carries with 76 catches for 861 yards receiving and 20 total touchdowns over four seasons for the Bulldogs.

“I’ve been catching the ball since I was yay high; I can remember catching the ball in the house with my dad… Just having that confidence in my hands, knowing that ball not going to touch the ground if it hits my hands. And also I know I ain’t going to do pushups they’re going to make me want to do if I drop that ball, so I might as well catch it.”

Seahawks director of player personnel Matt Berry was elated when McIntosh fell in Seattle’s lap in the seventh round.

“There’s a belief and a chip on his shoulder and I think he’s ready to come in and contribute right away,” Berry said. “He’s gonna find a way to impact our team and we were excited to get him when we did.” (Locked On Seahawks)

Devon Witherspoon, Kenny McIntosh highlights from Seahawks OTAs

The Seattle Seahawks held another OTAs practice yesterday, but it was closed to the media. However, the team did have the grace to share a couple of video clips from their Wednesday practice, featuring a pair of rookies.

Watch here:

CB Devon Witherspoon’s tipped pick

Witherspoon’s physicality is his biggest selling point, but here you see his ball skills on display. A tipped pick is still a pick and being in the right place at the right time never hurts when it comes to turnovers. During his time at Illinois, Witherspoon posted five interceptions and 25 passes defensed.

Today’s OTAs practice will be open to the media, so hopefully we’ll learn more about where Witherspoon is at. He’s been limited so far.

RB Kenny McIntosh as receiver

McIntosh is coming off a breakout Senior year at Georgia, having totaled 829 yards and 10 touchdowns as a rusher. His best path to playing time in Seattle may be as a pass-catcher, though. McIntosh also totaled 43 catches, over 500 yards and two touchdowns as a receiver last season. He’s expected to be part of the competition to replace Travis Homer as the team’s main third-down running back.

Former UGA RB Kenny McIntosh on Seahawks rookie minicamp: ‘Reminded me of Georgia’

Kenny McIntosh sees a lot of similarities between UGA and the NFL

The Seattle Seahawks rookie minicamp holds its third and final day on Tuesday.

For former Georgia running back Kenny McIntosh, it’s one more opportunity to impress Seahawks coaches as he continues his journey to earn a spot on Seattle’s 53-man roster after training camp.

Transitioning from college to the NFL can be a daunting task for many players, but McIntosh’s experience of competing against the highest level of talent at UGA seems to have prepared him well for this moment.

With two national championships under his belt during his time in Athens, McIntosh has honed his work ethic.

“It’s been smooth,” McIntosh shared about his experience at the Seahawks’ rookie minicamp. “Being out here competing with these guys, it really reminded me of Georgia. I’m not going to lie to you. The way Georgia practices and how we got after things, I would say that Kirby (Smart) really is similar to what we do here at the next level to get better.

Everything I did in college is like a repeat. They are saying the same things that my coaches said at the college level, so being out here was like a no-brainer.”

The Seahawks were surprised to see the former Georgia Bulldog on the board with the 237th overall pick in the seventh round. Seattle, which had selected a top running back in 2022 and 2023, decided McIntosh was too good to pass up.

McIntosh brings excellent receiving skills to Seattle. He caught 43 passes for 504 yards and two touchdowns during his final season at Georgia. McIntosh’s versatility played in key role in Georgia’s back-to-back national championship victories.

McIntosh joins a running back room that features rising star Kenneth Walker III, who had a phenomenal rookie season in 2022. Seattle also drafted UCLA’s Zach Charbonnet in the second round of the 2023 draft and has Brunswick native DeeJay Dallas on the roster. It may be an uphill battle for McIntosh to secure a spot on the Seahawks’ 53-man roster, but he can lean heavily on his experiences at UGA to succeed in Washington.

Seahawks rookie RB expresses his confidence as a receiver

Seattle also got a very underrated player in Georgia’s Kenny McIntosh in the seventh round.

The Seahawks picked two running backs in the 2023 NFL draft. In the second round they added UCLA’s Zach Charbonnet, who may eventually challenge Ken Walker for the featured rusher role. Seattle also got a very underrated player in Georgia’s Kenny McIntosh in the seventh round.

One of the things McIntosh (6-foot-1, 210 pounds) did well in college was his work as a receiver. McIntosh says he has confidence with the ball in his hands and has been doing it for a long time, per Mike Dugar at The Athletic.

McIntosh posted 76 catches, 861 yards (11.3 yards per reception) and scored for touchdowns as a receiver at Georgia.

As it happens, Seattle needs a new third-down running back after losing Travis Homer to the Bears in free agency. That should prove to be one of the most-interesting position battles over the summer and McIntosh might be their best choice. Charbonnet also has experience as a receiver, but he only averaged 7.9 yards per catch and did not score any touchdowns.

Knowing head coach Pete Carroll, the job will ultimately come down to who does a better job of playing the bouncer in the pocket.

Seahawks had emotional call with seventh-round pick Kenny McIntosh

It is practically impossible to not either smile or get a little choked up when you hear calls like this…. if not both.

In many cases, the NFL draft is a truly life changing experience for many. Young men not only gain more wealth for them and their families than they could have imagined, they also realize the culmination of a lifelong dream.

Easily the best part of draft weekend are the emotional scenes from players and their families when they learn they are being drafted. Everyone remembers DK Metcalf’s emotional outburst when Seattle selected the star receiver… and now they have another.

When the Seahawks drafted Georgia running back Kenny McIntosh in the seventh round, the sentiment was evident on his end how he was feeling.

from Seahawks.com:

“Before Schneider can even tell McIntosh he’s the pick, saying “you’re too talented to be sitting here right now,” the running back is crying on the other end of the call. The tears continue through McIntosh’s brief chat with Carroll and running backs coach Chad Morton. Morton can’t do much other than take in the noise of the celebration happening in the background and McIntosh’s emotions.”

It is practically impossible to not either smile or get a little choked up when you hear calls like this…. if not both.

Seattle does have a history of picking running backs well in the seventh round, such as Chris Carson. Here’s to Mr. McIntosh, hoping he can prove teams wrong for waiting so long on him.

Seahawks sign seventh-round draft pick, RB Kenny McIntosh

The last player the Seahawks picked in the 2023 NFL draft is the first to sign his rookie contract.

The last player that the Seattle Seahawks picked in the 2023 NFL draft is the first to sign his rookie contract.

According to a report by Aaron Wilson, former Georgia Bulldogs running back Kenny McIntosh has signed his deal with Seattle, which is worth $3.93 million over four years and includes a signing bonus over $90,000.

A seventh-round selection, McIntosh was one of several prospects who the Seahawks managed to get far later than their original projections going into the draft. He’s coming off a breakout Senior year with the Bulldogs, having totaled 829 rushing yards on 149 attempts (that comes out to 5.6 yards per attempt) and scoring 10 touchdowns. As a receiver, he added 43 catches, another 505 yards and two more scores.

As a rookie, McIntosh will be firmly behind Ken Walker and Zach Charbonnet on the depth chart and will likely have to compete with DeeJay Dallas and the undrafted running backs for playing time.

2023 NFL Draft: The best draft steal for every NFL team

Every NFL draft has its selection of steals — those players who could surprise despite their low selections — and here’s one for every NFL team.

One of the many reasons the Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LVII was the job that general manager Brett Veach did outside of the first round of the 2022 draft. Three defensive backs (Bryan Cook in the second round, Joshua Williams in the fourth, and Jaylen Watson in the seventh) were difference-makers all season, and seventh-round running back Isiah Pacheco became the team’s bellcow back down the stretch. Also, second-round receiver Skyy Moore joined Pacheco with touchdowns in that Super Bowl victory over the Eagles.

First-round hits are nice, but it’s almost worse to miss in the first round than it is better to win there from an opportunity cost perspective. If you want to refresh your roster at a championship level, you had better get those picks right on the second and third day. Veach and his staff did that, and it was the difference that made all the difference in the end.

Moving to the 2023 NFL draft, we’ve selected one second- or third-day pick for every NFL team who could have a similar impact on their NFL roaters sooner than mater. Each of these players have reasons for their relatively low picks in line with their tape, stats, and talent, but these are the kinds of finds that can turn a team around over time.

Watch: Kenny McIntosh’s emotional NFL draft call with Seattle

The Seattle Seahawks were surprised to see former Georgia Bulldogs running back Kenny McIntosh on the draft board in the seventh round. Seattle, which had already selected a top running back in 2022 and 2023, decided McIntosh was too good to pass up.

McIntosh brings excellent receiving skills to Seattle. He caught 43 passes for 504 yards and two touchdowns during his final season at Georgia. McIntosh’s versatility played in key role in Georgia’s back-to-back national championship victories.

The Seahawks selected McIntosh with the 237th pick.

Here’s McIntosh’s emotional NFL draft call with Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, general manager John Schneider and running backs coach Chad Morton:

McIntosh clocked a 4.62 second 40-yard dash at the 2023 NFL combine. McIntosh’s 40 time is the third slowest at his position. However, quickness is more important than long distance speed for running backs. McIntosh’s 1.54 second 10-yard split was in the middle of the pack for running backs.

McIntosh’s combine performance contributed to his draft slide. The draft featured so many talented running backs that teams had a number of good options even in the late rounds.

An overjoyed Kenny McIntosh could barely speak after the Seahawks ended his draft slide

This is just the best draft reaction for Georgia’s Kenny McIntosh.

New Seattle Seahawks running back Kenny McIntosh lasted much longer on the draft board than people expected.

Nobody expected the Georgia rusher to still be there at pick No. 237, but Seattle made the selection to bolster its running back depth behind 2022 pick Kenneth Walker and fellow 2023 pick Zach Charbonnet.

When Seahawks general manager John Schneider made the call to McIntosh that he’d finally been picked, the Georgia alum could barely speak as he reacted to the news his unexpected draft slide had finally ended.

He also talked with head coach Pete Carroll and running backs coach Chad Morton. He was so overjoyed while speaking with Morton that the two got disconnected on the phone briefly.

Plenty of Georgia players went in this draft class, and McIntosh had plenty going for him to hear his name called on draft weekend.

Even though he had to wait longer than expected, he lands in an ideal spot and gets to start his NFL career the right way.
