Five-star OT Kelvin Banks commits to Oregon over Texas, Texas A&M

Five-star OT Kelvin Banks announced his commitment to Oregon on Sunday. LSU, Texas, and Texas A&M were the other three finalists.

Quite a few prospects have been labeled as “must get” for Texas throughout the 2022 recruiting class. Kelvin Banks was one of them. The five-star offensive tackle is a surefire left tackle and every program in the country was after him.

Cancel the fireworks show because Banks announced his commitment to Oregon on Sunday. LSU, Texas, and Texas A&M were the other three finalists.

After a recruitment that seemed to be an in-state battle between Texas and Texas A&M, Oregon once again swooped in to secure an important commitment. Mario Cristobal is proving himself to be one of the best recruiters in the country.

Banks now joins the class as the Ducks’ highest-rated player. He is the No. 14 prospect on the 247Sports composite and the No. 1 offensive tackle.

Texas is now back to the drawing board, especially at the offensive tackle position.

After missing out on three-star offensive tackle Cameron Williams to Oregon as well, there seemed to be a small meltdown within the fan base. With how important offensive line recruiting is during the 2022 cycle, losing an in-state tackle to a school in the pacific northwest was not ideal.

The Ducks grabbing Banks makes matters worse.

Cole Hutson and Connor Robertson stopped the bleeding in a big way with simultaneous commitments Friday night. The two interior offensive linemen will slot into the center and right guard positions.

With Banks, Oregon now has their left tackle of the future. Maybe even the present. The 6-foot-5, 300-pound five-star would have significantly changed the trajectory of a Texas offensive line that has struggled for over a decade.

5-star offensive lineman, Kelvin Banks, announces commitment to Oregon Ducks

The future of the offensive line in Oregon just keeps getting brighter, this time with the addition of 5-star tackle, Kelvin Banks.

The pipeline from Texas to Oregon is growing bigger by the day.

Less than a week removed from the Ducks landing two 4-star commits from the Lone Star State, Mario Cristobal has done it again, this time with 5-star offensive lineman, Kelvin Banks.

Banks, a 6-foot-5, 300-pound tackle, chose Oregon over schools like LSU, Texas, Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M. He is rated as the second-best tackle in his recruiting class, and the 14th best recruit in the nation.

The Ducks don’t seem to be slowing down when it comes to building up their line in the future. The commitment from Banks comes just days after Oregon landed a commitment from 4-star Cameron Williams — also from Texas — and 3-star Michael Wooten.

Before the announcement on Sunday, the Ducks were ranked No. 9 in the nation when it came to recruiting classes, but the addition of Banks will surely bump that up a bit.

Two 5-star Oregon recruiting targets to make decision over holiday weekend

A couple of 5-star prospects are set to commit soon, in both J.T. Tuimoloau and Kelvin Banks, and the Ducks are strongly in the running.

The Oregon Ducks have been on fire as of late when it comes to recruiting. With a handful of talented players agreeing to come to Eugene over the past week, helping to raise Mario Cristobal’s squad all the way up to 9th in the nation, it seems that there isn’t a high school prospect that the Ducks can’t get.

That ball could certainly keep rolling this weekend, with the announcement that two 5-star prospects are set to choose their future schools. Washington DL J.T. Tuimoloau and Texas OL Kelvin Banks have cut down their lists of prospective teams, and Banks announced that his decision will come on Monday, July 5th.

After the recent string of success, the Ducks should feel confident going into the announcements. Tuimoloau, who is the No. 1 ranked defensive lineman in the nation, recently canceled his recruiting trip to the Alabama Crimson Tide after visiting Eugene. He is set to decide between the Ducks, the Ohio State Buckeyes, the USC Trojans, and the Washington Huskies.

As for Banks, the dominoes are seemingly falling as high-end Texas recruits choose Oregon, and the 6-foot-5, 300-pound OL could be the next to fall. With 4-star lineman, Cameron Williams, and 4-star receiver Nicholas Anderson committing to the Ducks on Thursday, the pipeline from the Lonestar State to the PNW is firmly in place. Add to that the commitment of 4-star Texas QB Tanner Bailey, and there is no shortage of familiar faces to drive Banks to choose the Ducks.

Another recruit from who we are waiting on a decision is 4-star WR Isaiah Sategna, who is also one of the top track athletes in the nation. He is currently deciding between Oregon and USC but has yet to release a date for his decisioin.

The coming weeks could be massive for the Ducks, and their spot in the recruiting rankings should continue to rise. Stay tuned, a movement is taking place in Eugene.

Five-star OT Kelvin Banks moves up commitment date

Kelvin Banks has changed his commitment plans to July 4. In-state schools Texas and Texas A&M are seen as the favorites.

Everyone stay calm.

Kelvin Banks has changed his commitment plans, announcing this Sunday on July 4 instead of the original July 24 date. The sudden change of plans has sent the finalists into a frenzy.

LSU, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Texas, and Texas A&M all received official visits during the month of June. The in-state schools have long been considered the favorite, with LSU having an outside chance. Both Steve Sarkisian and Jimbo Fisher have made this recruitment personally.

Banks was once committed to Oklahoma State but opened up his recruitment in the middle of the pandemic.

According to Gigem247, he will make his commitment at 3 p.m. CST.

To say Banks is a need would be quite an understatement. An elite offensive tackle has been missing from a Texas recruiting class for years now. Solidifying a prospect such as Banks at left tackle for the next three to four years would be a reason to celebrate.

July 4 will now be a nervy one, with four-star WR Jordan Hudson also announcing his commitment on the holiday. Going at least one for two would be a major bonus for Texas.

247Sports’ top 10 recruits in Texas includes multiple players with ties to the Longhorns

In regards to 247Sports’ ratings of the top 10 players in the state of Texas, Steve Sarkisian has a chance to land close to half of them.

In what seemed to be an everlasting downfall with former head coaches Tom Herman and Charlie Strong, Texas simply lacked the ability to keep the top recruits in the state of Texas from leaving the state.

SEC schools and Big Ten programs alike have been able to invade the state of Texas and snatch most of the top talent, which during the peak Mack Brown era would never happen.

It is certainly something that new head coach Steve Sarkisian is trying to address, as 2018 was the last time the Longhorns signed the top player in the state when they brought in an impressive haul of seven of the top 10 players  and 12 of the top 25 ranked players in Texas.

In regards to 247Sports’ top 10 recruits in the state of Texas for the 2022 recruiting class, the top overall player in-state is five-star quarterback Quinn Ewers. He was once a Texas commit and is on track to head up north to Ohio State. However, the Longhorns are in position to bring in multiple top 10 players.

While having already secured the commitment from running back Jaydon Blue, Texas is also in contention for three other players. On top of that, the rumors circulating that the Longhorns are still giving their best shot with Ewers won’t go away until he puts pen to paper with Ohio State.

Texas’ 2022 class is already off to a hot start, especially as of late, with the recent commitment from four-star running back Jamarion Miller. As of now, Kelvin Banks is the only prospect on this particular list that has officially announced his commitment date.

Until national signing day, the Longhorns will attempt to prevent the out-of-state invasion.

Five-star OT Kelvin Banks announces late July commitment date

Kelvin Banks announced he will be making his commitment on July 24. LSU, Texas, and Texas A&M are considered the three finalists for the five-star OT.

After a successful month of visits, Kyle Flood has a stressful month of July ahead of him.

To put it nicely, offensive line recruiting was bad during the 2021 cycle. Steve Sarkisian knew getting big men up front was going to be a priority with Flood. Texas has been in good positions for some of the top in-state guys but it is time to close.

Sarkisian and Flood will have the opportunity to land one of their biggest targets and arguably the best offensive tackle prospects in the country toward the end of the month.

Kelvin Banks announced he will be making his commitment on July 24. LSU, Texas, and Texas A&M are considered the three finalists. Oregon and Oklahoma State, where the five-star OT was once committed, are the long shots.

All five received official visits during the month of June.

With Cameron Williams announcing his decision on July 3, it could be an enormous summer month for Flood. Five offensive linemen are going to be taken in the 2022 class and Banks/Williams could end up being the two tackles taken.

Getting a win over Jimbo Fisher and Ed Orgeron would be massive as well. Nothing is better than getting wins over Texas A&M while keeping elite Texas kids in the state is a good sign of things to come under Sarkisian.

LOOK: Photos from Texas’ big 2022 recruiting weekend

Step No. 1 of making an official visit is getting in front of a camera and posing in the uniform. Check out some of the top photos here.

Elite after elite 2022 prospects made their way down to Austin for an official visit this weekend. A mix of current commits and top priority targets remaining on the board was able to meet and socialize with the Texas staff for the first time in person.

Five-stars Kelvin Banks (offensive tackle) and Denver Harris (cornerback) may have been the biggest uncommitted names visiting, while longtime commits Maalik Murphy (quarterback) and Jaydon Blue (running back) came to do some recruiting. While nobody has committed from the weekend yet, nothing but good can come from getting guys on campus.

Step No. 1 of making an official visit is getting in front of a camera and posing for photos in the uniform. Texas’ famous all-white uniform seemed a popular choice this weekend. Everyone but Murphy and four-star safety Bryan Allen went for the go-to away jersey.

Photos with Sarkisian, in Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, and behind the “All Gas, No Brakes” block letters were shared throughout the Twittersphere. A touch of Texas twang was added by a few prospects as well, getting a cowboy hat involved.

Texas Football Recruiting: Five 2022 prospects Texas needs to focus on going into the summer

The dead period has been lifted, allowing ’22 prospects to take visits. Here are five prospects Texas should focus on before visits begin.

Recruiting is in a bit of a lull right now as the calendar turns toward the summer. The NCAA has lifted the dead period, allowing 2022 prospects to officially take visits. Texas has already scheduled a ton of visits, with their big weekend being in the middle of June.

Texas currently has eight commitments, headlined by four-star running back Jaydon Blue. Five of the commitments come from the defensive side of the ball, with safety Bryan Allen Jr. leading the way. Steve Sarkisian and his staff have done a great job laying down the foundation for the ’22 cycle.

Much more is still needed before national signing day in December. Not only is quantity needed but quality as well. Here are five prospects Texas needed to focus on going into the summer visit period:

Four offensive recruits Texas should push for after Maalik Murphy’s commitment

Recruiting momentum is real and Texas must be able to capitalize after landing Maalik Murphy. Here are four prospects Texas should push for.

Getting Texas back on the national recruiting scene was one of the biggest tasks that Steve Sarkisian needed to accomplish early on. In-state recruiting was always going to sort itself out for a program such as Texas, but being able to dip into other states is what builds national championship-caliber teams.
