Former UFC fighter Karl Roberson facing charges after allegedly stealing $200K in jewelry from home

Karl Roberson, 32, faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of his charges in connection with the burglary of a home in New Jersey.

Former UFC fighter [autotag]Karl Roberson[/autotag] is facing several charges after he and another man allegedly burglarized a New Jersey home of $200,000 worth of jewelry and other valuables, according to police.

Roberson and Dathan Thompson, both 32, were arrested and identified as the alleged burglars by the Howell Township Police Department, which was announced in a press release. Roberson’s arrest occurred during a traffic stop in Neptune during which he had been driving a vehicle that police believed to be connected to the burglary.

“A search of the vehicle revealed a defaced 9mm handgun with an extended magazine, several packages of suspected ‘crack cocaine,’ marijuana and items related to the burglary,” police said.

Roberson was booked into county jail on charges of burglary, theft, criminal mischief, possession of controlled dangerous substance, and several weapons offenses. Detective Ryan Jackson told MMA Fighting that Roberson spent “two or three weeks” in custody but was released.

According to police, Roberson and Thompson pried open a rear door to the residence and made their way to the master bedroom where they allegedly lifted $200,000 worth of goods. Home security surveillance cameras captured the suspects, who were wearing masks, both inside and outside the home.

If convicted of the felony charges, Roberson faces up to 10 years in prison.

Roberson earned his UFC opportunity through Dana White’s Contender Series in 2017 and made 10 appearances with the promotion, posting a 4-6 record. He exited the UFC on a four-fight losing streak, which culminated with a third-round TKO loss to Kennedy Nzechukwu last July at UFC on ESPN 39.

After International Fight Week took over the MMA world, UFC on ESPN 39 on Saturday proved to be something of a hangover card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

[autotag]Rafael Fiziev[/autotag] (12-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) put a highlight on the end of a long night of fights, though, when he scored a fifth-round knockout of former UFC champ [autotag]Rafael dos Anjos[/autotag] (32-14 MMA, 20-12 UFC) to extend his winning streak in the lightweight division to six consecutive fights.

[autotag]Kennedy Nzechukwu[/autotag] showed off a new layer to his game in a dominant win over [autotag]Karl Roberson[/autotag] at UFC on ESPN 39.

Nzechukwu (10-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC) used his grappling game to wear down Roberson (9-6 MMA, 4-6 UFC) in their light heavyweight bout at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. He then turned up the volume late and scored a merciful ground-and-pound stoppage win at the 2:19 mark of Round 3.

Check out the replay below (via Twitter):

Nzechukwu, the tall and lengthy knockout specialist, came into UFC on ESPN 39 with back-to-back losses on his record. He showed strides in his game against a Roberson who now has questions around his future after a fourth consecutive defeat.

UFC 266 looks a little different midway through fight week.

UFC 266 looks a little different midway through fight week.

On Wednesday, the promotion announced that [autotag]Karl Roberson[/autotag] has been removed from his middleweight bout due to illness. In his place, Dana White’s Contender Series alum [autotag]Cody Brundage[/autotag] steps in to meet Nick Maximov.

The women’s flyweight bout between [autotag]Manon Fiorot[/autotag] and [autotag]Mayra Bueno Silva[/autotag] was scrapped from UFC 266 due to COVID-19 protocols. As MMA Junkie previously reported, Fiorot (who is asymptomatic) and her team tested positive for the virus.

The UFC also confirmed that the rematch between [autotag]Nick Diaz[/autotag] and [autotag]Robbie Lawler[/autotag] will be contested at middleweight instead of welterweight as originally agreed upon after Diaz asked for the change. Earlier Wednesday, Lawler indicated he had agreed to the last-minute change.

Injured Tatiana Suarez off UFC 266; Diaz protégé among new additions to card

UFC 266 loses Tatiana Suarez due to injury, but the promotion announced multiple additions, including the debut of Nate Diaz’s training partner Nick Maximov.

[autotag]Tatiana Suarez[/autotag]’s long-awaited return to the cage has been unfortunately delayed again.

Suarez’s last walk to the cage was at UFC 238 in June of 2019 against Nina Nunes, but has faced a lengthy layoff due to a neck injury. Last month, news of her return broke as she was set to face former title challenger [autotag]Roxanne Modafferi[/autotag] at UFC 266.

Unfortunately, Suarez suffered an injury in training, further delaying her return to action. A person with knowledge of the situation confirmed the injury with MMA Junkie.

UFC 266 takes place on July 30, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and features two title fights as [autotag]Alexander Volkanovski[/autotag] will look to defend his featherweight title against [autotag]Brian Ortega[/autotag], and women’s flyweight champion [autotag]Valentina Shevchenko[/autotag] will take on challenger [autotag]Lauren Murphy[/autotag].

While the event lost one key matchup in Suarez vs. Modafferi, the promotion announced multiple additions to UFC 266 on Tuesday via press release.

[autotag]Nick Maximov[/autotag], a Nick and Nate Diaz training partner, will make his promotional debut against fellow Dana White’s Contender Series veteran [autotag]Karl Roberson[/autotag].

A pair of surging bantamweights on impressive winning streaks will meet as [autotag]Ricky Simon[/autotag] is set to face [autotag]Timur Valiev[/autotag].

A bout that has been rescheduled twice prior has found a new landing spot, as [autotag]Shamil Abdurakhimov[/autotag] vs. [autotag]Chris Daukaus[/autotag] lands on UFC 266 after falling through at UFC on ESPN 27 and UFC on ESPN 28.

The current UFC 266 lineup includes:

  • Champ Alexander Volkanovski vs. Brian Ortega – for featherweight title
  • Champ Valentina Shevchenko vs. Lauren Murphy – for women’s flyweight title
  • Nick Diaz vs. Robbie Lawler – five-round, non-title bout
  • Curtis Blaydes vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik
  • Jessica Andrade vs. Cynthia Calvillo
  • Marlon Moraes vs. Merab Dvalishvili
  • Shamil Abdurakhimov vs. Chris Daukaus
