Oklahoma set to host a number of prospects for season opener vs. Arkansas State

The Oklahoma Sooners are hosting a number of prospects over the next few recruiting cycles for their season opener. Who’s will be in attendance?

Oklahoma’s first game of the season comes against Arkansas State in what could be a blistering day in Norman, Oklahoma. Aside from the pageantry of the first game and the excitement it’ll generate, the Sooners will also be playing host to a number future Sooners and other OU targets.

With the summer dead period officially over, athletes can revisit schools. Oklahoma has already established a nice little list of visitors of both the official and unofficial variety.

We’ve taken the liberty of compiling a list of all the visitors we know now.

Oklahoma comes up short against Missouri for the commitment of five-star Williams Nwaneri

Oklahoma just misses out as five-star EDGE Williams Nwaneri committed to Missouri over Oklahoma, Georgia, and Tennessee on Monday afternoon.

In what can only be described as game-changing, Oklahoma missed on its most significant recruiting prospect in a long time as five-star defensive lineman Williams Nwaneri committed to Missouri on Monday afternoon.

Chronicling the nature of this recruitment is likely a story for another day. Still, Oklahoma entered the final rounds for one of the nation’s most elite defenders. Ultimately, the Sooners couldn’t overcome Missouri’s hometown advantage. Nwaneri picked Missouri over Oklahoma, Georgia and Tennessee.

Missouri’s pitch to Nwaneri was simple. They are the in-state school with the added proximity bonus and NIL opportunities that Nwaneri could capitalize on before stepping foot on campus. He would be revered as a hero forever for being a high-profile prospect who decided to stay home and play for the Missouri Tigers.

Oklahoma’s advantages or connection with Nwaneri stem from his relationship with the coaching staff. There is a strong bond between Nwaneri and defensive coaches Miguel Chavis and Todd Bates.

Oklahoma has been building a pipeline to Lee’s Summit North (Nwaneri’s high school). Lee’s Summit North produced true freshman offensive tackle Cayden Green and 2025 nose tackle Ka’Mori Moore commit, both teammates of Nwaneri’s. The Sooners are also pursuing current teammate and 2025 four-star receiver Isaiah Mozee. Mozee is an Oklahoma legacy by way of his father and the head coach at Lee’s Summit North, Jamar Mozee. The elder Mozee played at OU when Brent Venables was at Oklahoma as a defensive coordinator.

It’s been tough for Oklahoma to land five-star defensive linemen consistently. While last year saw them land Adepoju Adebawore, the hit rate for Oklahoma in these five-star defensive line recruitments is hardly something to be proud of.

Even with the commitment to Missouri, Oklahoma will continue to pursue Nwaneri until the No. 1 player in the On3 rankings officially signs his national letter of intent. So the potential for his recruitment turning in Oklahoma’s favor remains until signing day. We saw last year how that worked out for Oklahoma for former five-star safety Peyton Bowen.

In the immediate future, Oklahoma turns its attention to the decisions of five-star defensive tackle [autotag]David Stone[/autotag] (Aug. 26), five-star defensive lineman [autotag]Dominick McKinley[/autotag] (Sept. 1) and four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Nigel Smith[/autotag] (Sept. 8). Oklahoma has more than a puncher’s chance to land at least two out of the three. If Oklahoma can land at least two, it still would be one of the better defensive line hauls in recent Sooners history.

Five-star priority target Williams Nwaneri announces commitment date

Elite defender Williams Nwaneri announces his decision date via social media.

The date is set. [autotag]Williams Nwaneri[/autotag]’s recruitment is coming to a head. The talented five-star edge from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, announced via social media that he plans to announce his collegiate decision on Aug. 14.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound Nwaneri plans to choose between five finalists: Oklahoma, Missouri, Oregon, Georgia and Tennessee. The talented five-star took official visits to Georgia, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Missouri in June and traveled to Oregon on an unofficial visit last week.

Nwaneri has visited Oklahoma’s campus multiple times this year, and his connections to the Sooners are plentiful.

He plays at the same high school true freshman offensive lineman Cayden Green played at. The two went up against each other in practice before Green graduated and moved to Norman. His current teammate, 2025 nose tackle Ka’Mori Moore, committed to Oklahoma in late July. Another current teammate and close friend, Isaiah Mozee, is an Oklahoma lean. And if that isn’t enough to highlight it, his head coach, Mozee’s father, is a former Sooner.

There are a number of reasons Nwaneri might choose the Sooners. When asked about Oklahoma, he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett: “I have a great relationship with coach (Miguel) Chavis and (Todd) Bates. It’s always great vibes in Norman.”

No one knows where he may go, but Oklahoma has put its best efforts into landing a transformative defensive talent. With recent rumblings, Oklahoma and Missouri seem like the two schools duking it out as this race comes around the final turn.

With a decision less than two weeks away, Oklahoma will continue applying the pressure as much as possible. Aug. 1 started the dead period for NCAA recruiting, meaning there can only be digital and non-face-to-face contact. So, no visits in any capacity are allowed.

August is a massive month for Oklahoma recruiting; decisions from not one but two five-star defenders are incoming. Nwaneri’s decision will get things started before [autotag]David Stone[/autotag] makes his announcement on Aug. 26.

Brent Venables, Oklahoma Sooners breaking mold with 2025 recruiting class

Setting a new trend for Oklahoma recruiting Brent Venables and his staff are off to a hot start in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

At this point, it’s safe to say that anything’s possible with Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners on the recruiting trail. Though they still have several high-profile recruitments to lock up in the next few weeks for the 2024 cycle, the 2025 recruiting class is already taking shape.

When [autotag]Kevin Sperry[/autotag] committed back in March, the 2025 recruiting class earned its first pledge. That came 12 days before the 2024 recruiting class broke the ice. After [autotag]Gracen Harris[/autotag] joined Sperry in May, the Sooners added a pair of commitments this week, with [autotag]Ka’Mori Moore[/autotag] and [autotag]Elijah Thomas[/autotag] joining the fold.

With four commitments in the class, the Sooners sit No. 4 in the nation in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

With these four commitments, the 2025 class set a precedent in recruiting for Brent Venables and his coaching staff.

In prior years, the [autotag]Brent Venables[/autotag]’ Sooners didn’t receive their first commitment until the year prior to that class’ signing day. [autotag]Jackson Arnold[/autotag] committed the January before the December early signing period for the 2023 cycle. [autotag]Joshua Bates[/autotag] was committed under the [autotag]Lincoln Riley[/autotag] regime and stayed committed, but Arnold represented the first commitment in the 2023 cycle under Venables.

For 2024, it was March, just under nine months from the 2024 early signing period, for Oklahoma to earn its first commitment.

Sperry’s pledge came 21 months ahead of the 2025 early signing period. Oklahoma earned its fourth commitment 17 months out from 2025’s early signing period. When Oklahoma received its fourth commitment for the 2024 class, the Sooners were just under eight months out from the early signing period.

There’s been a lot of talk about how Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners performed on the field in 2022. There’s been a lot of talk about Venables’ visit policy and recruiting values. And while some may take exception to how he does things, you can’t dispute the recruiting acumen of Venables, his coaching staff, and the on-campus recruiting team. The results on the field will determine the final evaluation, but with a pair of top 10 recruiting classes, the early returns are quite strong for Venables and his staff.

Prior to the run of 2025 commitments, it was believed the summer before a class’ early signing period would be Oklahoma’s most fruitful time on the recruiting trail. While the summer months will still be bountiful, the 2025 class is getting a head start on the process by pledging early and being a part of Oklahoma’s recruiting plan.

As the Oklahoma Sooners look to finish strongly in the 2024 recruiting class, they’re working to earn commitments from several blue chip prospects over the next five weeks. Brent Venables and his staff may not earn pledges from every one of their targets, but as they’ve shown in recruitments of Peyton Bowen and Jayden Jackson, never count them out. And as they continue to prove time and time again, doubt them at your own peril.

Oklahoma 2024 prospects expected at ‘Party At The Palace’

Oklahoma set to host multiple 2024 recruits and commits for the Party at the Palace.

Oklahoma’s had a busy July to follow up a June full of official visits. July was about constructing their recruiting board for 2025 and 2026 as the 2024 class determines their future.

With so many Oklahoma targets for the 2024 recruiting class stopping by in June for official visits, it significantly decreased the likelihood that July would see nearly as much traffic. And while that may be true, this weekend’s Party at the Palace is still significant and a notable follow-up from Oklahoma’s ‘Sooners under the Sun’ underclassmen event that took place in the middle of the week. That event has already netted a pair of 2025 commitments from defensive tackle Ka’Mori Moore and four-star wide receiver Elijah Thomas.

For [autotag]Party at the Palace[/autotag], the 2024 class is back in the spotlight as more than 10 2024 prospects are expected to be in the building over the weekend. Several players are already committed, and the Sooners are hoping to use the event to move the needle with their uncommitted players. We took the liberty of highlighting who has been confirmed to be in Norman for the event.

Oklahoma will have the luxury of having multiple 2024 commits in the building to help with their recruiting efforts. [autotag]Michael Hawkins[/autotag] and [autotag]Isaiah Autry[/autotag] can help with the recruitment of three-star offensive lineman [autotag]Josh Aisosa[/autotag] and four-star offensive tackle [autotag]Grant Brix[/autotag]. Defensively, Jaydan Hardy can help with the recruitments of [autotag]Eli Bowen[/autotag], [autotag]C.J. Jackson[/autotag], and [autotag]Michael Boganowski[/autotag] and get in the ear of three-star safety [autotag]Mykel Patterson-McDonald[/autotag], who plans to announce his commitment on July 31st. He’ll be deciding between Oklahoma, Houston, and UNLV.

In-state talent [autotag]Danny Okoye[/autotag] has had a compelling recruitment. He’s been offered by some of college football’s elite, including Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, and Ohio State. With Oklahoma still looking to build a historic class along the defensive line, knocking this visit out of the park would help go a long way.

Party at the Palace could provide the last springboard Oklahoma needs to help solidify its place in the recruitments of several 2024 guys as prospects prepare to lock in for their final high school seasons. This event also marks the last major recruiting event of the offseason for Oklahoma. The calendar gives way to fall camp in preparation for the [autotag]2023 college football season[/autotag].

Sooners land commitment from 2025 4-star WR Elijah Thomas out of Checotah

The Oklahoma Sooners picked up another commitment in the 2025 class, this time from four-star wide receiver Elijah Thomas.

The 2025 recruiting cycle has been fantastic for the Oklahoma Sooners, with a year and a half to go until 2025 national signing day. The Sooners added their fourth commitment, and second in as many days, with the pledge of 2025 four-star wide receiver Elijah Thomas.

Thomas, out of Checotah, Okla., is the No. 170 player in the 247Sports composite and the No. 25 wide receiver in the 2025 recruiting class. He chose the Oklahoma Sooners over offers from Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Kansas, Kansas State, Alabama, and Texas Tech.

The Oklahoma native is the No. 5 player in the state and joins a recruiting class that features four-star quarterback [autotag]Kevin Sperry[/autotag], four-star wide receiver [autotag]Gracen Harris[/autotag], and three-star defensive tackle [autotag]Ka’Mori Moore[/autotag].

The first thing you notice about Thomas is his ability to release off the line of scrimmage against press coverage. With fantastic lateral agility, he’s able to ditch his defender and get vertical in a hurry. Thomas displays really good route running and is smooth down the field. He’s got really nice hands and can break away from the defense after the catch. The four-star prospect displays the ability to track the football well in the air and time his jumps well when going up to get the football. While he has a slender frame at 6 feet and 160 pounds, he displays good toughness at the catch point and the ability to break tackles in the open field.

This is another fantastic addition to the Oklahoma Sooners wide receiver room with his ability to win at every level of the passing game.

He marks the seventh high school wide receiver commit for assistant coach [autotag]Emmett Jones[/autotag] since taking the job in January. It’s the fifth blue chip commitment earned by Jones in his tenure with the Sooners. Including transfer portal additions Andrel Anthony and Brenen Thompson, Jones has earned pledges from nine prospects in a little more than seven months on the job.

With the commitment of Elijah Thomas, the Sooners move up to No. 3 in the 2025 recruiting class. Only Alabama and Georgia sit in front of them in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings.

While the Sooners are working to close on their 2024 recruiting class, 2025 prospects are taking it upon themselves to get the ball rolling early in their recruiting cycle. It’s likely this isn’t the last commitment we see from the 2025 class before the fall season starts.

The Oklahoma Sooners picked up their third commitment in the 2025 recruiting class with the pledge of DT Ka’Mori Moore.

The Oklahoma Sooners’ head start on the 2025 recruiting class continued on Wednesday evening with the commitment of defensive tackle [autotag]Ka’Mori Moore[/autotag].

Moore is a three-star prospect in the On3 database and hails from Lee’s Summit North High School. The same school that produced current Sooners offensive lineman Cayden Green and Oklahoma targets Williams Nwaneri and Isaiah Mozee.

In Moore, the Sooners get their third commitment of the 2025 recruiting cycle. He joins four-star quarterback [autotag]Kevin Sperry[/autotag] and four-star wide receiver [autotag]Gracen Harris[/autotag].

A look at Sooners 2025 defensive line target Ka’Mori Moore out of Lee’s Summit, Mo.

Oklahoma is one more recruit away from locking up Lee’s Summit North High School as an official recruiting pipeline. Between their pursuit and signing of Cayden Green in the class of 2023, their pursuit of one of the nation’s best prospects in Williams Nwaneri for 2024, and 2025 four-star wide receiver Isaiah Mozee, Oklahoma has a strong relationship with the Kansas City area football program.

It helps when the head coach of the team is former player Jamar Mozee. Mozee was a running back on the Sooners’ last national title-winning squad back in 2000.

The possible pipeline could grow even more if the Sooners can land yet another Power Five caliber player that Lee’s Summit has to offer. 2025 nose tackle Ka’Mori Moore was the latest athlete from that high school to receive an offer from Oklahoma.

The Sooners are actively recruiting his teammates, and it’s only natural that the 6-foot-1, 310-pound defensive tackle is being recognized.

Moore is powerful but has excellent agility for someone his size. His ability to stonewall offensive linemen allows him to disrupt timing on plays and enables the rest of the defense to make plays. In a world where Oklahoma lands Williams Nwaneri this recruiting cycle, it’s hard to imagine the Sooners not being a leader in Moore’s recruitment. Brandon Drumm, the Rivals insider for Oklahoma sports, already logged a future cast in favor of Moore landing with Oklahoma.

Lee’s Summit North DT Ka’Mori Moore predicted to land with Oklahoma

The Oklahoma Sooners look like the early favorite to land 2025 DT Ka’Mori Moore out of Lee’s Summit North.

The Oklahoma Sooners are building quite the pipeline out of the Kansas City area. In the 2023 cycle, Brent Venables and his squad brought in five-star defensive end [autotag]Adepoju Adebawore[/autotag] and four-star offensive tackle [autotag]Cayden Green[/autotag]. In the 2024 recruiting cycle, they look like the frontrunners for five-star defensive lineman [autotag]Williams Nwaneri[/autotag].

Nwaneri plays at the same Lee’s Summit North High School that Cayden Green came out of, and the Sooners look to be dipping back into that well for the 2025 recruiting cycle.

Oklahoma recently offered defensive tackle [autotag]Ka’Mori Moore[/autotag]. He’s currently an unrated prospect out of Lee’s Summit North, but someone who will be highly regarded by the end of the 2025 cycle.

Just a few days after his offer was made public, Parker Thune of OUInsiders issued a Rivals FutureCast favoring the Sooners in his recruitment.

Moore stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 321 pounds, according to Rivals. It’s early in his recruitment, but he holds offers from Nebraska and Iowa State as well. And as more programs become aware of Moore, expect his offer sheet to grow.

A legit nose tackle, Moore will be a force at the point of attack and give the Sooners someone to play over the center in Brent Venables’ defense in three or four-man fronts.

While it’s early in the 2025 recruiting cycle, Oklahoma’s making progress to build that class. They’ve already received commitments from four-star quarterback Kevin Sperry and four-star wide receiver Gracen Harris. The Sooners’ two commitments have them No. 5 in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings for the cycle.

It looks like Todd Bates and the Sooners have made a significant impression in the recruitment of Moore. A prediction not long after an offer bodes well for the Sooners prospects of landing the defensive tackle out of Lee’s Summit.
