Chiefs HC Andy Reid reveals crucial injury update for Patrick Mahomes ahead of Week 10

Kansas City #Chiefs head coach Andy Reid reveals crucial injury update for Patrick Mahomes ahead of Week 10 | @EdEastonJr

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed the media on Friday, days before their AFC West matchup with the Denver Broncos. He revealed injury statuses for several players, including quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

“Alright, as far as the injuries go, JuJu(Smith-Schuster) will be the only one that’s out, everybody else practiced,” said Reid. “Turk (Tershawn Wharton) practiced today, so good thing he’s out there.”

Smith-Schuster continues battling a lingering hamstring issue that has kept him out of the past few games. Aside from the veteran receiver, Reid believes everyone else should be good to go on Sunday.

“Yeah, I think so,” said Reid. “Yeah, I mean right now – we’ll see how it plays out.”

Reid also expects Mahomes to be okay after aggravating his ankle injury last Monday, as the star quarterback was a full participant in practice this week.

“He’s (Patrick Mahomes) done a good job,” said Reid. “He didn’t miss anything, so he’s done a good job.”

The Chiefs had Justyn Ross active in place of Smith-Schuster last week, and he will likely remain on the active roster this week.

Chiefs elevate fan-favorite WR for ‘Monday Night Football’ matchup vs. Buccaneers

The Kansas City #Chiefs elevated fan-favorite WR Justyn Ross for their matchup against the Tampa Bay #Buccaneers on ‘Monday Night Football.’

The Kansas City Chiefs decided to elevate fan-favorite wide receiver Justyn Ross for their Week 9 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on “Monday Night Football.”

Ross, who has developed a cult following with the Chiefs since signing with Kansas City after the 2022 NFL draft, is set to get his first chance to make an impact for the defending Super Bowl champions this season.

A former Clemson Tiger, Ross was a highly coveted prospect as a collegian, but injuries caused him to fall off many teams’ draft boards.

He saw action with the Chiefs in 10 games last season, hauling in six passes for 53 yards.

Though head coach Andy Reid is unlikely to make Ross a featured part of Kansas City’s offensive game plan for the Buccaneers, fans should expect the third-year receiver to be eager to make an impact if his number is called.

Stay tuned to see if Ross sees the field when the Chiefs face Tampa Bay on “Monday Night Football.”

Chiefs WR DeAndre Hopkins reveals NBA legend as inspiration for his jersey number

Kansas City #Chiefs wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins reveals NBA legend Kobe Bryant as inspiration for his jersey number | @EdEastonJr

The Kansas City Chiefs made a significant addition to their wide receivers room with the recent trade for DeAndre Hopkins. He opened up to reporters on Thursday for the first time since the deal was finalized, giving Chiefs fans insight into his personality.

Hopkins, who wore jersey number ten throughout his career, will be sitting up with the number eight in Kansas City. Ten is occupied by injured starting running back Isiah Pacheco, while eight, previously worn by Justyn Ross, according to Hopkins, also holds much meaning in his life.

“Kobe Bryant, one of my favorite athletes of all time,” said Hopkins. “So I knew if I ever got the chance to wear number eight, you know, just like when I picked number 10, (Lionel) Messi was my favorite soccer player; underdog felt like me at the time coming out of college and, you know, Kobe, number eight, special, number.”

Many athletes in and outside the NFL relate to Hopkins’ admiration for the late NBA legend and five-time champion. The multiple-time All-Pro receiver hopes for championship credentials as he begins his tenure with the Chiefs.

Chiefs Veteran defensive lineman ruled out for Week 7 vs. 49ers

Kansas City #Chiefs defensive lineman Mike Danna ruled out for Week 7 vs. San Francisco #49ers | @EdEastonJr

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed the latest injury report with the media on Friday, finalizing the status of one of his veteran defensive linemen.

“As far as the injuries go, Mike (Danna) will be listed as out,” said Reid. “JuJu (Smith-Schuster) had a hamstring spasm yesterday but practiced today, so he will be listed as questionable, however, on the sheet there.”

Danna will miss his second game this season as he continues to deal with a pectoral injury that held him out of practice all week. The injury to “Smith-Schuster has sparked the possibility that practice squad receivers Justyn Ross or Nikko Remigio could be in the running for a roster elevation before Sunday. Reid has left the decision to the coaching staff as a wait-and-see scenario.

“We’ll see; I mean, we’re going to list him (JuJu Smith-Schuster) as questionable just in case something comes up,” said Reid, “but he did good today, so we’ll see how he does tomorrow, right? But he was good today.

The veteran receiver led the team in receiving during their Week 5 victory over the New Orleans Saints. He has seemingly fit back into his role from the 2022 season after Rashee Rice’s season-ending injury.

Fan-favorite WR Justyn Ross to sign with Chiefs practice squad

Fan-favorite WR Justyn Ross landed back with the #Chiefs’ practice squad after Kansas City released him earlier this week.

Although Justyn Ross wasn’t consistent enough in the preseason to earn a spot on the Kansas City Chiefs’ 53-man roster, the fan-favorite wide receiver is set to land back on the team’s practice squad.

Ross has had some noteworthy moments on the field, but inconsistency and availability issues made it hard for Brett Veach and Andy Reid to justify carrying him on Kansas City’s active roster at the start of the 2024 season.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the same source that revealed Ross’ release earlier in the week, broke the news on Twitter that Ross would be signed to the Chiefs’ practice squad on Wednesday:

This is good news for the former Clemson Tiger. He will get more time in Kansas City to show what he is capable of and ideally land a spot future roster spot.

Stay tuned to see if the Chiefs elevate Ross to the 53-man roster during the regular season.

Former Clemson star wide receiver Justyn Ross released by Kansas City Chiefs

Ross will look for a new home in the NFL.

A former Clemson star will look for a new home in the NFL.

Former Clemson standout wide receiver Justyn Ross has been released by the Kansas City Chiefs, ending his time with the team. Ross was an undrafted free agent for the Chiefs, appearing in 10 games and recording 53 yards on six receptions in the season.

At Clemson, Ross had 158 receptions for 2,379 yards and 20 touchdowns over three years. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound receiver was forced to miss his junior season due to a congenital fusion in his spine, but he returned to the field in 2021 for his senior season. He went undrafted in the 2022 NFL draft before the Chiefs signed him as an undrafted free agent.

He has a lot of talent and the potential to be a starter in the NFL. More opportunities should come for Ross.

Chiefs cuts: Fan-favorite WR Justyn Ross to be released

Fan-favorite WR Justyn Ross was among the players who were released by the Kansas City #Chiefs on Tuesday.

The Kansas City Chiefs had to make some tough decisions this week to cut their roster down to 53 players, and fan-favorite wide receiver Justyn Ross found himself on the outside looking in on Tuesday afternoon.

Ross, who joined the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent after the 2022 NFL draft, was a star at Clemson as a collegian and seemed to be on the rise during Kansas City’s preseason exhibitions.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz first reported news of Ross’ release on Twitter.  The transaction came just a day after the Chiefs reunited with veteran wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, which may have been one of the factors in Kansas City’s decision to part with the former Tiger.

It isn’t out of the question that Ross could be signed to the Chiefs’ practice squad in the coming days, but for now, his future in Kansas City seems to have come to an end.

Standout WR Justyn Ross makes impressive touchdown catch at training camp

Check out this video of QB Carson Wentz connecting with WR Justyn Ross for a touchdown at #Chiefs training camp this week.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Justyn Ross is returning for his third year but is questionable to remain on the 53-man roster this time after a start to his NFL career that hasn’t lived up to his collegiate performance at Clemson.

Although Ross hasn’t been given much playing time during his tenure in Kansas City, he has demonstrated amazing athleticism and the potential to become a key contributor.

On Thursday, the official Chiefs Twitter account posted a play that featured Ross from one of the final practice sessions at training camp.

When backup quarterback Carson Wentz faced pressure from Kansas City’s defense, he hurled the ball deep downfield to Ross who made the catch and slid triumphantly in the endzone with the ball in hand after the ball was nearly intercepted by Kelvin Joseph.

Ross made himself valuable to the offense in the Chiefs’ first preseason match against the Jacksonville Jaguars where the wide receiver made this beautiful toe-tapping sideline grab.

Look for more dramatic plays in the coming match against the Lions, when Ross will be fighting alongside fellow Chiefs players for a spot on the 53-man roster for this season.

Chiefs OC Matt Nagy comments on the progress of Justyn Ross, Kadarius Toney in camp

The Kansas City Chiefs are going into their second preseason game this Saturday, still figuring out their plans for the wide receiver position before the start of the regular season.

Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy updated the media on Tuesday regarding the play of Justyn Ross and Kadarius Toney in practice. Both players compete for the remaining wide receiver spots on the final roster.

“Justyn’s (Ross) making plays. He’s out there. He made a great catch there, down the sideline again, just continuing to grow (and) not make the same mistake twice for Justin; I love his attitude.” said Nagy. “He’s been very involved and really enjoying his process. And then Kadarius (Toney), again, (the) same thing. It’s making sure he’s just got to get healthy and get out there so that we can see him and see the reps.”

Ross and Toney are viewed as players on the bubble trying to improve their stock ahead of final cuts. Injuries have hampered both players as they seek to make a strong impression on Nagy and the coaching staff.

“We understand that we have our first and second group of guys that you guys have seen out there in different quarters; whoever that is, go ahead and use the competition to make a play,” said Nagy. “So I think it could, possibly, be different every game. We’ll wait and see.”

The injury to ‘Hollywood’ Brown opens up more opportunities for the other receivers trying to make an impression.

Top highlight: Rising WR makes toe-tapping sideline grab vs. Jaguars

#Chiefs WR Justyn Ross made a beautiful catch in Kansas City’s loss to the Jaguars on Saturday.

The Kansas City Chiefs came up short in their first exhibition matchup of the preseason against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday night, but their failure to secure victory wasn’t a total loss.

Among the most impressive performers in the game was wide receiver Justyn Ross, who made a beautiful toe-tapping catch on the sideline to help third-string quarterback Chris Oladokun keep a drive alive in the second half.

Check out this video of Ross perfectly tracking the ball in the air as he nears the boundary, and notice the nifty footwork that the veteran uses to ensure that he comes down with the catch cleanly:

Though Kansas City has plenty of work left to be done ahead of their regular season kickoff against the Baltimore Ravens in September, efforts like this one from Ross are an inspiring reminder of what the Chiefs are capable of.

Expect to see Ross back in action during Kansas City’s next preseason tilt against the Detroit Lions at Arrowhead Stadium on August 17.
