Georgia ‘has made a surge’ in recruitment for 5-star LB Justin Williams

In addition to Oregon and Georgia, Williams has offers from 30 other programs.

Oregon is not kidding around when it comes to finding linebacker talent in the class of 2024. Over the last several days the Ducks have recruited a pair of four-star prospects at this position from California and they appear poised to get another from Texas that some analysts consider the very-best linebacker in this class.

For now, On3’s prediction model has Oregon as the favorite (58.7%) to get a commitment from Oak Ridge (Texas) five-star linebacker Justin Williams. However, according to Cole Patterson at Rivals, Georgia (39.4%) has made a surge for him.

“Justin Williams has been considered an Oregon lean for a bulk of the process, but Georgia has made a surge in his recruitment. Especially with his teammate and Rivals100 defensive end Joseph Jonah-Ajonye committing to the Bulldogs this week. Kirby Smart and former assistant Dan Lanning will continue to battle it out.”

Jake Rowe at On3 thinks the Bulldogs have been steadily “pulling in the right direction” since a recent visit from Williams.

In addition to Oregon and Georgia, Williams (6-foot-2, 205 pounds) has offers from 30 other programs. He is first among linebackers according to the 247Sports composite rankings, third overall in Texas and No. 11 nationally in the class of 2024.

For now, the Ducks have ridden a hot streak up to No. 8 in the nation in the 2024 recruiting rankings, while the Bulldogs remain at the top spot.

5-star LB receives new commitment prediction; Ducks ’50-50′ to land him

Dan Lanning is going toe-to-toe with his mentor for the No. 1 LB in the 2024 class.

The Oregon Ducks have long been thought of as the team that led in the recruitment of 5-star linebacker Justin Williams, the No. 1 ranked LB in the 2024 class.

Dan Lanning and the Ducks got in on Williams early. They developed a relationship with the elite defender long before many of the other big schools extended an offer, and the 247Sports Crystal Ball has favored Oregon since October of 2022.

But it doesn’t matter how early you were when the Georgia Bulldogs come knocking. The two-time defending champions will always pose the toughest threats on the recruiting trail.

That’s what the Ducks are currently dealing with. While the past few months have seen Williams take a pair of visits to Athens, Oregon has held on as the perceived favorite to get a verbal commitment from the LB who is rated by 247Sports as the No. 11 player in the class.

Momentum has shifted, though. On Monday morning, On3’s Sam Spiegelman placed an expert prediction for Williams to land with the Bulldogs.

The Ducks still hold a lead in the battle according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, but Williams said that at this point, it is about a 50-50 proposition for the decision that he hopes to make within the next month.

While Lanning has a history with Williams and a track record of coaching elite linebackers and dominant defenses, Georgia has the rings, and just received a commitment from Oak Ridge teammate Joseph Jonah-Ajonye last week.

Will the Ducks be able to hold on in the end and land the second-highest-rated LB in program history? It’s going to be a tough battle, but we will likely find out within the next month.

Can Georgia gain a commitment from 5-star LB Justin Williams?

Five-star linebacker recruit Justin Williams is high school teammates with a four-star UGA football commit

Five-star linebacker recruit Justin Williams is high school teammates with four-star Georgia commitment Joseph Jonah-Ajonye. The dynamic duo plays high school football together for Oak Ridge High School in Conroe, Texas. Will they play together in college?

Justin Williams’ recruitment looks to be a race between the Georgia Bulldogs and Oregon Ducks. Williams took an official visit to Athens, Georgia, from June 23-25. The five-star visited Oregon the weekend of June 16.

Justin Williams is the No. 1 linebacker in the 2024 cycle and the No. 3 player in Texas. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound linebacker is ranked the No. 13 player in the 2024 recruiting cycle. Williams runs track and has excellent speed.

247Sports projects that Oregon and former Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning will sign Williams. However, it should be noted that Williams’ Twitter page primarily has references to Georgia and very few mentions of Oregon. Williams may be thinking of playing college football with Joseph Jonah-Ajonye.

It is hard too read too much into these sort of things. We do know that Georgia has a very strong recruiting pitch for linebackers due to the Dawgs’ recent success on the field and in the NFL draft.

Kirby Smart and Georgia recruited the linebacker position at an elite level in the class of 2023. The Bulldogs don’t have a particularly big need at the position in the 2024 recruiting cycle, but Georgia and co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann are always looking to add more high-level linebacker talent.

Georgia offered a scholarship offer to Williams in March 2023. The Bulldogs have one commitment at the linebacker position from five-star Demarcus Riddick. The Dawgs are certainly looking to add another talented linebacker in the 2024 cycle. Who will commit to Georgia next?

Visit photos and reactions from blue-chip recruits after OV weekend in Eugene

A handful of 5-stars and even more high-end 4-stars were in Eugene for official and unofficial visits this weekend. Check out their visit photos and reactions.

The official visits ramped up for the Oregon Ducks over the past week.

While the first weekend in June saw guys like 4-star RB Christian Clark, 4-star LB Dylan Williams, and 4-star CB Aaron Scott take a trip out to Eugene to see Dan Lanning and the Ducks, we only saw the heat get turned up this past week at Autzen Stadium.

Guys like 5-star EDGE Elijah Rushing, 5-star LB Justin Williams, and 5-star CB Kobe Black all made their way out to Oregon for official or unofficial visits, with 4-stars like RB Nathaniel Frazier and WR Gatlin Bair doing the same.

While a ton of focus was on the guys Oregon wants to bring into the fold, we also saw a ton of current Duck commits come back home for their OVs as well. That list of players included 4-star DL Xadavien Sims, 4-star S Aaron Flowers, 3-star QB Luke Moga, and 3-star TE Jackson Ford.

As you would expect, the visit photos were plenty, and the reactions were positive. Here is a mix of what recruits are saying after the weekend in Eugene:

Nation’s No. 1 LB Justin Williams plans visit with UGA

Five-star LB Justin Williams plans to take an official visit to Georgia this June.

Kirby Smart and Georgia football signed three elite linebacker recruits in the class of 2023. The Bulldogs don’t have a big need at the position in the 2024 recruiting cycle, but Georgia and co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann have a knack for landing top linebacker talent.

Georgia offered a scholarship offer to Williams in March 2023. The Bulldogs have one commitment at the linebacker position from five-star Demarcus Riddick.

Oregon 2024 LB target bumped up to 5-star status

Oregon 2024 LB target bumped up to 5-star status

The past week has been incredibly successful for Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks, and it doesn’t look like that positive momentum is going to be stopping any time soon.

While the Ducks continue to land blue-chip recruits on the trail, it looks like some of their top targets — and players they are favored to land — are getting a boost in the recruiting rankings as well.

2024 linebacker Justin Williams saw a nice boost in the most recent ratings update from 247Sports, where he is now listed as a 5-star player, ranked No. 16 overall in the nation. Williams was already a 5-star player according to the 247Sports Composite ratings. Williams is also rated as the No. 2 LB in the nation, according to 247Sports.

Back in October of last year, 247Sports Director of Football Recruiting Steve Wiltfong placed a Crystal Ball prediction for the Ducks to land Williams. There have also been a number of predictions placed on On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine for Williams to commit to Oregon, where the Ducks are now a heavy favorite with a 97.9% chance to get the 5-star, according to the RPM.

The Texas product has made multiple visits to Oregon over the past year, and should likely come out for an official visit in Eugene in the coming months before making a commitment.
