Justin Tucker named top 100 NFL player by ESPN

ESPN released a top 100 list, predicting the best players during the 2020 NFL season. Former Texas Longhorn Justin Tucker came in at No. 98.

ESPN released a top 100 list, predicting the best players during the 2020 NFL season. Only former Texas player made it, with Baltimore Ravens’ kicker Justin Tucker coming in at No. 98.

After being unranked in the list last season, Tucker sneaks into ESPN’s top 100. Here is what they had to say about the former Longhorn:

With unprecedented accuracy and leg strength, Tucker is on the path to becoming the best kicker in NFL history. Over the past four seasons, he has missed only five field goal attempts when you exclude blocked kicks — and only one (43 yards) has come from inside 50 yards. He has also recorded an NFL-record seven career games with multiple field goals over 50 yards. — Jamison Hensley

Signature stat: Tucker is the most accurate kicker in NFL history, with a field goal percentage of 90.8%. He is the only player to score at least 140 points in each of the past four seasons.

What they are saying: “He’s the GOAT. He has got that golden leg. I’ve got all the faith in him. I’m on the sideline praying. At the same time, I’m like, ‘I know Tuck can do it.'” — Lamar Jackson, Ravens quarterback

2020 projection: 27 of 30 field goals, 43 of 44 extra points

Next, Longhorns Wire weighs in on the ranking:

Justin Tucker offers to pop bottles with Patrick Queen if he stays home

Baltimore Ravens Justin Tucker is ready to pop bottles with rookie Patrick Queen . . . if he stays home until February.

It’s going to be an unusual NFL season this year. With the coronavirus pandemic already forcing the league, teams, and players to make dramatic changes to how they do everything from hold meetings to attend training camp, it’s bound to elicit some strong responses. One such response came from Baltimore Ravens rookie linebacker Patrick Queen, who scoffed at a report that players would be restricted from some activities in their free time.

According to a report from Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the NFL and NFLPA have agreed to prohibit players from attending indoor events, including going to night clubs. That drew Queen’s ire, who retweeted the report.

Quick to offer a solution to the problem, Ravens kicker Justin Tucker came in with the clutch save. Tucker offered to open his wallet if Queen can stay out of night clubs until mid-February, presumably after Super Bowl LV.

While kickers have earned the reputation for being the quiet and more boring players in the league, Tucker breaks the norm. In fact, Tucker hitting the club and popping bottles is such a funny, on-brand thing for him that you can’t help but picture it in your head. Tucker is the opera-singing, fried chicken and coffee-selling, showboating kicker and there’s little doubt he’ll be the life of the party at whatever club they go to.

Queen fired back quickly taking Tucker up on the offer, even if he’s more of a homebody normally.

Hopefully, Tucker, Queen, and the rest of the team have more to celebrate in February, making the occasion just a little sweeter.

‘Madden 21’ ratings continue to disrespect Ravens K Justin Tucker

Despite being the best kicker in the game right now and arguably the best in NFL history, Justin Tucker doesn’t even hit 90 in “Madden 21”

If you’ve been following the release of “Madden 21” ratings, you’ve likely seen both fans and some players complain about how people are rated. While the game brings a little controversy every year, I’m still flabbergasted EA Sports hasn’t fixed Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker’s rating for their newest version.

According to the initial “Madden 21” ratings, Tucker is at 87 overall. Though he tops all kickers in the game by at least two points in overall ratings, in real life Tucker is head and shoulders above his competition as the best kicker in the game. So why isn’t Tucker a 99 overall considering he’s the unquestioned top player at his position and arguably the greatest kicker in NFL history?

While each position weighs ratings differently, Tucker seemingly has everything a kicker would need to have a top rating. In “Madden 21,” Tucker has a 98 rating in both kicking power and kicking accuracy, along with a 95 injury rating. Tucker is actually one of the fastest kickers in the video game with his 75 speed rating.

It could be the “awareness” rating is a little low at 71, which typically carries more weight in the overall rating for players. Though we can certainly question and debate how Tucker has middling “awareness” in this game, it seems odd that it would dramatically drop his overall rating from his 98-rated kicking skills.

Kickers and punters have never gotten much love in the “Madden” franchise. But at a time when kickers are finally starting to earn some respect from the general public — largely thanks to the poor kicking in recent years — Tucker’s 87 rating is a slap in the face to the best kicker in the sport.

What would an NFL offense look like comprised of only Texas Longhorns?

The Texas Longhorns have produced a plethora of offensive talent over the years. So what would an offense of only Longhorns look like?

The Texas Longhorns have provided plenty of NFL talent over the years, but a large portion of that talent came during the Mack Brown era. It wasn’t just Brown that produced NFL talent, as the first Longhorn ever drafted dates all the way back to 1938 when Hugh Wolfe was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round.  Other big names include Bobby Layne, Tom Landry, Tommy Nobis, Earl Campbell, Ricky Williams, Vince Young and many more.

Manny Rubio-USA TODAY Sports

Given the amount of Longhorns that have made the jump to the NFL and AFL, we were curious what an offense of former Texas players would look like in the NFL today. We used players from the XFL as well to fill out the starters. So let’s get started with the quarterback.

When the power went out, Ravens K Justin Tucker stepped up

When the power went out in Baltimore, Ravens kicker Justin Tucker was ready to hunt down a generator to keep the lights on for John Harbaugh

With the 2020 NFL Draft going virtual this year, it means things are being run from the home offices of general managers and coaches. While security issues were the biggest concern for Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh, keeping the lights on seemed to be the biggest actual problem.

With storms rolling through Baltimore Saturday morning, some homes lost power. But when potential tragedy struck, Ravens kicker Justin Tucker came to the rescue, offering to go get a generator to keep things moving for Baltimore’s front office.

It’s unclear if Harbaugh or general manager Eric DeCosta were among those that lost power at all. Luckily, it seems as though Harbaugh had it sorted and Baltimore isn’t on the clock until late in the fourth round, buying them a little time.

With the final day and three more Ravens picks scheduled, it’s probably a good idea for DeCosta and Harbaugh to have a generator and a gas can ready in waiting.

Several Ravens featured on NFL’s All-Decade team

The Baltimore Ravens have had a ton of great players over the years with several earning praise on the NFL’s All-Decade team

[jwplayer 7OkHTDSV-ThvAeFxT]

The Baltimore Ravens have had a ton of success over the last decade. All under coach John Harbaugh, the Ravens have gone 98-62 with six of their 10 seasons ending in the playoffs, including a Super Bowl victory. Most NFL teams would love to have that resume and it’s largely thanks to the excellent players Baltimore has featured on their rosters over the years.

NFL.com released their All-Decade team and several Ravens players — past and present — made the cut.

  • G Marshal Yanda
  • DE Calais Campbell
  • S Earl Thomas
  • S Eric Weddle
  • K Justin Tucker
  • KR Devin Hester

It’s probably unfair to consider Campbell, Thomas and Hester as Ravens making this list though they’ve all been on the roster at some point. Campbell has yet to even put on the uniform after being traded to Baltimore this offseason, Thomas was signed last offseason and Hester played just 12 games for Baltimore. All three players really earned their place on the list well before joining the Ravens. Still, Campbell and Thomas are on Baltimore’s roster for the 2020 season, hopefully helping push the team towards a Super Bowl this decade.

Yanda and Tucker are the two homegrown Ravens — drafted or signed as a UDFA — to make the cut. They’re also two of the eight unanimous selections, joining players like quarterback Tom Brady and defensive end J.J. Watt as the obvious best players at their positions.
