Warriors: Juan Toscano-Anderson embracing competition in Slam Dunk Contest

Toscano-Anderson may not be the favorite to win, but the third-year guard is looking to have fun in the Slam Dunk Contest.

Juan Toscano-Anderson may not be the favorite to win the NBA Slam Dunk Contest at All-Star Weekend, but the Golden State Warriors guard will be looking to have fun at the annual event.

If he can surprise some people along the way, that would be OK, too.

Toscano-Anderson on Saturday will compete against Houston Rockets rookie Jalen Green, New York Knicks forward Obi Toppin and Orlando Magic guard Cole Anthony. Toscano-Anderson enters the competition with the lowest odds of winning, according to most sportsbooks.

Green is viewed by most as the favorite to win the event, something Toscano-Anderson understands given his elite athleticism. Toscano-Anderson, 28, is the oldest competitor in the event so he will be looking to dig deep into his bag of tricks to win.

I think the Dunk Contest is just a combination of athleticism, creativity, showmanship and all of that stuff. I’m going to just try to put it all together. I know somebody like Jalen Green is very explosive, extremely athletic. He is probably the favorite, and if I was a spectator, I’d probably pick him as a favorite, too. The Dunk Contest is a combination of a bunch of things so I’m not really going to trip off of that athleticism part. I know those young guys are a little bit more athletic than me but I’m going to try to come up with some stuff and have fun with it.

Toscano-Anderson, a native of Oakland, grew up watching Warriors legend Jason Richardson win the event twice in 2002 and 2003. He was ecstatic to learn the NBA wanted him to compete this year. In fact, he even thought his agent was joking with him when he was asked about it.

The Warriors guard wouldn’t reveal his game plan but hinted that fans might feel some nostalgia when watching the event. He is certainly looking to dazzle on Saturday with his creativity, and may very well just walk away as the winner.

Report: Warriors’ Juan Toscano-Anderson expected to compete in dunk contest at All-Star weekend in Cleveland

Juan Toscano-Anderson will reportedly represent the Golden State Warriors at the dunk contest during All-Star weekend in Cleveland.

Along with Steph Curry and Andrew Wiggins, there will reportedly be another player representing the Golden State Warriors at All-Star weekend in Cleveland.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Warriors forward Juan Toscano-Anderson is expected to enter the 2022 edition of the dunk contest at All-Star weekend.

Toscano-Anderson will join Houston rookie Jalen Green, Orlando’s Cole Anthony and New York’s Obi Toppin in Cleveland at the dunk contest. Toppin placed second in the 2021 edition of the dunk contest. The rest of the field will make their dunk contest debut in 2022.

Via @ShamsCharania on Twitter:

Since Jason Richardson’s three consecutive trips to the dunk contest from 2002-2004, Harrison Barnes has been the only member of the Warriors to compete in the All-Star weekend event in 2014. Toscano-Anderson will become only the fifth member of the Warriors to ever enter the dunk contest.

Since joining the Warriors in 2019, the Oakland native has displayed a flurry of emphatic in-game dunks, including aggressive put-backs and even a windmill slam.

As he prepares for the contest in Cleveland, Toscano-Anderson could lean on his fellow highlight-reel dunking teammates Gary Payton II and Jonathan Kuminga for ideas.

The dunk contest is slated for Feb. 19 at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland.

Orlando Magic guard Cole Anthony and Houston Rockets rookie Jalen Green are reportedly among the players set to participate in the 2022 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Anthony was the first known player to commit to the event while the news of Green participating first surfaced on Tuesday. They will be joined by New York Knicks forward Obi Toppin and Golden State Warriors guard Juan Toscano-Anderson on Feb. 19 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Injury Report: Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Juan Toscano-Anderson out vs. Pelicans on Thursday

The Golden State Warriors will be without a trio of players due to injury on Thursday against the New Orleans Pelicans.

To end their quick two-game road swing, the Golden State Warriors are slated to meet the New Orleans Pelicans in the big easy on Thursday night.

Coming off a rough loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, the Warriors will be shorthanded against the Pelicans to close the second leg of their road back-to-back.

The Warriors have ruled out Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Juan Toscano-Anderson against the Pelicans due to injury.

Via @anthonyVslater on Twitter:

During Golden State’s loss in Dallas, Curry appeared to hit his knee on a Mavs defender in the third quarter. After the game, he said he wasn’t optimistic he would play against the Pelicans. Steve Kerr also noted there was a chance the Warriors would hold him out.

With Curry ruled out on Thursday, the seven-time All-Star guard will get three days off before potentially returning to the floor on Sunday at Chase Center against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Green has been ruled out with a left hip injury against the Pelicans. Golden State’s potential Defensive Player of the Year candidate will miss his fifth game of the season.

Toscano-Anderson will join Curry and Green on the bench on Thursday with a left ankle injury.

With three players down, the Warriors will lean on Jordan Poole, Otto Porter Jr. and Andrew Wiggins for scoring against the Pelicans. Youngsters Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody could also be in line for a bump in playing time on Thursday night.

With two monster dunks, Juan Toscano-Anderson provided some much-needed energy off the bench in the Warriors’ comeback win over the SIxers.

Predicting every Warrior player’s rating in NBA 2K22

With “NBA 2K22” set to release in early September, Warriors Wire drops a rating prediction for every member of the Golden State Warriors.

The latest installment of the “NBA 2K” franchise is set to arrive Sept. 10, and Warriors fans can look forward to playing with a squad that looks remarkably similar to the glory years.

We already know that Stephen Curry, coming off a top-3 finish in MVP voting, is tied for the highest player rating in the game at 96. Draymond Green is still around, Klay Thompson will soon be back in action after two years of injury, and Andre Iguodala is a Warrior again.

But 2K’s all-important player ratings are bound to change for “NBA 2K22.” How will they judge Thompson after two years away? How can they quantify the value of a player like Green? Where do younger Dubs like James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody and Jordan Poole stand?

Here are rating predictions for every player on the roster (besides Curry) heading into the season.

Warriors’ Steph Curry reacts to Juan Toscano-Anderson’s first pitch at Oakland A’s game

Following Juan Toscano-Anderson’s first pitch at the Oakland A’s game, Warriors guard Steph Curry had a message for his teammate.

Instead of the basketball court, a member of the Golden State Warriors was busy on the baseball diamond on Friday night.

With the Texas Rangers in town, Oakland native and Golden State forward Juan Toscano-Anderson threw out the ceremonial first pitch for the Oakland Athletics game.

Suited up in Oakland’s kelly green jersey, Toscano-Anderson tossed a strike over the dish to the catcher’s glove. Despite not skipping the ball or making the A’s catcher run to make a catch, Toscano-Anderson’s teammate had a message for him.

Following Toscano-Anderson’s pitch, Steph Curry chimed in on Twitter to say he’d hit a home run off his teammate. Along with taking Toscano-Anderson deep, the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player said he would celebrate with a bat flip similar to former Toronto Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista.

Before the Warriors’ offseason comes to an end, Toscano-Anderson and Curry might need to meet on the sandlot to settle a pitcher-hitter duel.

Watch: Warriors’ Juan Toscano-Anderson throws first pitch at Oakland A’s game

Before the start of the new NBA season, Warriors forward Juan Toscano-Anderson took his talents to the baseball diamond at an Oakland A’s game.

Before he starts getting ready for the new NBA season, Golden State Warriors forward Juan Toscano-Anderson took his skills to the baseball diamond.

Prior to the Oakland Athletics game against the Texas Rangers at the Oakland Coliseum, Toscano-Anderson, an Oakland native, tossed out the ceremonial first pitch.

While donning his Golden State No. 95 on a kelly green Oakland A’s jersey, Toscano-Anderson fired a strike from the bump that landed in the catcher’s mitt behind the plate.

Via @NBCSAthletics on Twitter:

Via @Athletics on Twitter:

While his pitch wasn’t close to a fastball from Oakland’s All-Star pitcher Chris Bassitt, Toscano-Anderson’s first pitch didn’t dribble across the plate after a flurry of bounces. Oakland’s catcher also didn’t have to move off his spot to chase Toscano-Anderson’s pitch.

Following his pitch, Toscano-Anderson served as a good luck charm for the Oakland A’s. Behind a three-run walk-off home run from Starling Marte, the A’s beat the Rangers, 4-1, in extra innings.
