Injury Report: Warriors’ Otto Porter Jr. (lower back tightness), Nemanja Bjelica (back spasms) out vs. Kings

The Warriors will be without veterans Otto Porter Jr. (lower back tightness) and Nemanja Bjelica (back spasms) against the Kings on Thursday.

When the Sacramento Kings come across the bridge into San Francisco, the Golden State Warriors will be missing multiple veterans for Thursday’s contest.

With Draymond Green (left disc) and Andre Iguodala (left hip) already ruled out, the Warriors added Nemanja Bjelica and Otto Porter Jr. to the injury report. Thursday against the Kings will be Bjelica’s fourth consecutive game on the sideline due to back spasms.

Porter Jr. missed both of Golden State’s back-to-back games in Texas due to left foot injury management. However, Porter Jr. was ruled out against Sacramento with lower back tightness. Thursday will be the 10th game this season the eight-year veteran has missed.

Without four core veterans, the Warriors will lean on a pair of rookies in the rotation. Moses Moody has started the past two games for Golden State with Jonathan Kuminga coming off the bench. On Tuesday against the Spurs, the pair of rookies both scored in double-figures, combining for 39 points.

Juan Toscano-Anderson could also see an increased role alongside Kevon Looney in the frontcourt against Richuan Holmes and the Kings.

The Warriors are slated to tip-off against the Kings at 7 p.m. P.T. on Thursday night.

Injury Report: Warriors’ Nemanja Bjelica (back spasms) questionable vs. Nets

Warriors forward Nemanja Bjelica is listed as questionable due to back spasms for Saturday’s contest against the Nets.

With Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala already slated to miss the game against the Brooklyn Nets, the Golden State Warriors added another player to the injury report ahead of Saturday’s contest.

Nemanja Bjelica is listed as questionable against the Nets on Saturday due to back spasms.

During his first season with the Warriors, Bjelica is averaging 6.4 points on 45.3% shooting from the floor with 4.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 15.4 minutes per game off the bench.

In 16 minutes off the bench on Thursday against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Bjelica tallied five points on 2-of-2 shooting from the field with six assists.

If Bjelica isn’t available against James Harden, Kyrie Irving and the Nets, the Warriors could lean on Juan Toscano-Anderson and rookie Jonathan Kuminga in the second unit. Kuminga has played 15 or more minutes in nine of his last 10 games.

The Warriors are slated to host the Nets at 5:30 p.m. PT on Saturday at San Francisco’s Chase Center.

NBA Twitter reacts to Nemanja Bjelica’s impressive performance vs. Lakers in season opener

After helping lead the Warriors past the Lakers on opening night, Nemanja Bjelica caught the attention of the NBA Twitter community. Here is a look at some of the best reactions to his performance on Tuesday.

On a night where Steph Curry shot 5-of-21 from the field, Nemanja Bjelica came to the rescue for the Golden State Warriors in the 2021-22 regular-season opener against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.

In 26 minutes off the bench, Bjelica tallied 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field with 11 rebounds. Known for his long-distance shooting ability, Bjelica made an impact on the contest while only hitting one triple on a single attempt from deep against the Lakers.

Bjelica served as a playmaker for Steve Kerr’s offense on Tuesday night, dropping four dimes, including an important pass to Andrew Wiggins during the final stretch of the contest. While trying to hold off the Lakers in the final minutes, the six-year veteran found Wiggins for an open triple. Wiggins answered the bell, drilling the 3-pointer to give the Warriors a 12 point lead.

Predicting every Warrior player’s rating in NBA 2K22

With “NBA 2K22” set to release in early September, Warriors Wire drops a rating prediction for every member of the Golden State Warriors.

The latest installment of the “NBA 2K” franchise is set to arrive Sept. 10, and Warriors fans can look forward to playing with a squad that looks remarkably similar to the glory years.

We already know that Stephen Curry, coming off a top-3 finish in MVP voting, is tied for the highest player rating in the game at 96. Draymond Green is still around, Klay Thompson will soon be back in action after two years of injury, and Andre Iguodala is a Warrior again.

But 2K’s all-important player ratings are bound to change for “NBA 2K22.” How will they judge Thompson after two years away? How can they quantify the value of a player like Green? Where do younger Dubs like James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody and Jordan Poole stand?

Here are rating predictions for every player on the roster (besides Curry) heading into the season.

Free agency stock watch: DeMar DeRozan, Duncan Robinson, Reggie Jackson and more

The deeper that we get into the regular season, the more indications we get about what the free agency market will look like this offseason.

The deeper that we get into the regular season, the more indications we get about what the free agency market will look like this offseason.

Of course, executives around the league always have tough decisions to make about who they plan to re-sign as well as who they plan to pursue or let walk during free agency. But as the season progresses, it becomes a bit easier to evaluate who would be a good fit for their franchise and who might not be.

As part of our ongoing series at HoopsHype, we are looking at whose free agency stock has gone up – and down – over the last several games.

Sources: Celtics rumored as ‘top suitor’ for Nemanja Bjelica

According to Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer, multiple league sources see the Celtics as ‘top suitors’ for Sacramento’s Nemanja Bjelica.

As the NBA trade deadline rapidly approaches this week, the slumping Boston Celtics have found themselves in an abundance of trade talk and rumored trade interest. Whether it’s Atlanta’s John Collins, Orlando’s Aaron Gordon, or Sacramento’s Harrison Barnes, Danny Ainge and company are always right in the thick of things. Most recently, the rumors are focused on Sacramento Kings sharp-shooting big man Nemanja Bjelica.

Reported by Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer, several sources around the league have listed the Celtics as ‘top suitors’ for Bjelica. It was previously reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania that Bjelica could be a potential target for the Celtics.

Shams: Celtics ‘among teams that have shown interest’ in Kings’ Bjelica

The Celtics may be interested in the Sacramento’s forward, according to reports.

In a wide-ranging article released Thursday morning, The Athletic’s Shams Charania relayed some eyebrow-raising intel on the state of the NBA trade market as the 2021 deadline draws nearer, and several nuggets in it related to the Boston Celtics.

In addition to the news that the Celtics had interest in Detroit Pistons forward Jerami Grant and Orlando Magic center Nikola Vucevic, Charania also related that the Celtics were among multiple teams with an eye for Sacramento Kings big man Nemanja Bjelica as a potential trade target. The 32-year-old has been having something of an off season with a struggling Kings team.

And while he’s shooting a career-low 31% from 3-point range, he’s a career marksman who has averaged 38.9% from beyond the arc.

Bjelica is also managing to score 8.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game in 17.5 minutes of play despite his career-low long-distance efficiency on a cheap deal — only $7.1 million.

While there are other teams with interest in the veteran big man, Bjelica could be a comparatively cheap upgrade to the Celtics’ bench should he be made available at the deadline.

Shams: Sixers continue to show interest in Kings F Nemanja Bjelica

The Philadelphia 76ers show interest in Sacramento Kings forward Nemanja Bjelica.

The Philadelphia 76ers are heading into the All-Star break sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference and they have to be feeling good about themselves, but there is always a way to get better and strengthen their chances at making a title run.

One move that president Daryl Morey could make is by going out and improving the up and down bench unit. The team could use another player who can stretch the floor from the power forward spot and one name that continues to pop up is Sacramento Kings forward Nemanja Bjelica.

Shams Charania of The Athletic and The Stadium reports that the Sixers continue to show interest in Bjelica ahead of the March 25 trade deadline:

Bjelica spent time out of the Kings’ rotation but has since returned. He’s averaging 8.3 points and 31 percent 3-point shooting in 18 games this season. Philadelphia, Miami, Golden State, Milwaukee and Boston are among teams that have shown interest in Bjelica, sources said.

As mentioned, Bjelica has not been shooting the ball well this season, but he shot 41.9% from deep in the 2019-20 season and he is a career 38.9% shooter from deep. He could probably use a change of scenery and the opportunity to chase a championship in Philadelphia could really help him get back on track.

Free agency stock watch: Lonzo Ball, PJ Tucker, Gary Trent Jr. and more

As the 2020-21 NBA season progresses, players around the league are making a case to solidify the earning potential of their next contract.

As the 2020-21 NBA season progresses, players around the league are making a case to solidify the earning potential of their next contract.

Front offices often make decisions based on the “what have you done for me lately?” philosophy, which means that how much a player will receive in free agency is fluid and constantly changing. That means that while some have increased their value, there are others whose recent performances may end up costing them some money.

Of course, an overall body of work is the most important factor for an NBA contract. But for our newest series at HoopsHype, we are looking at whose stock has gone up – and down – over the last several games.
