Jags make a few practice squad moves to begin Week 9

Jacksonville added defensive lineman Jeremiah Ledbetter to its practice squad, among several other moves.

Jacksonville’s 31-7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday afternoon was one the team will want to forget about quickly. Unfortunately, with Buffalo coming to town next week, the road only gets tougher.

On Monday, the Jaguars made a couple of roster moves after the game involving their practice squad. The first was signing defensive end Jeremiah Ledbetter, who is a free agent that was most recently on the Arizona Cardinals practice squad until he was released last week.

A former sixth-round pick out of Arkansas in 2017, Ledbetter saw the bulk of his playing time come with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020, and he has 18 tackles and a sack on his career.

Further, offensive lineman Badara Traore was restored to the practice squad from the practice squad injured reserve list. Traore, an undrafted pickup for Chicago last year, has only appeared in one NFL game.

To help clear space on the practice squad, the team released receiver Josh Imatorbhebhe. The former Illinois player is an undrafted rookie who the Jags signed this offseason, but he suffered an injury during the preseason and was released on Aug. 26. He rejoined the practice squad on Oct. 12, but it seems he’ll be looking for a new home once again.

Jaguars do some shuffling with the practice squad

The Jags made a few adjustments to their practice squad on Monday morning, including bringing back receiver Josh Imatorbhebhe.

Coming off a frustrating 37-19 loss to Tennessee, Jacksonville heads back to the drawing board as a it tries to avoid an 0-6 start when it takes on the Miami Dolphins in London on Sunday morning.

Ahead of that game, the Jaguars made some tweaks to their practice squad, adding running back Kerrith Whyte Jr., offensive lineman Jared Hocker and receiver Josh Imatorbhebhe.

Whyte is a third-year player who was drafted in the seventh round in 2019 and has 122 career rushing yards. He spent this past offseason with the Buffalo Bills. Meanwhile, Hocker is a first-year guy out of Texas A&M who most recently spent some time on the Los Angeles Rams practice squad, and Imatorbhebhe is another rookie who signed with the Jags after the draft and spent most of the offseason with the team.

To clear space for these moves, the team released offensive lineman Austen Pleasants, who was signed last week, as well as running back Wendell Smallwood and receiver Devin Smith, the latter of which saw a bit of preseason action and nine offensive snaps Week 1 against Houston with the Jags.

With some injuries and the team looking to build for the future, it’s not surprising to see some shuffling with the practice squad, and we’ll keep you posted on if any of these players will be activated for the trip to the United Kingdom.

WRs Josh Imatorbhebhe, Tim Jones revert to Jags’ IR list after clearing waivers

Josh Imatorbhebhe and Tim Jones have cleared waivers and will be headed to IR for the Jags.

Two of the players who the Jacksonville Jaguars waived on Tuesday have cleared waivers and will revert to the team’s injured reserve list. Those players were receivers Josh Imatorbhebhe and Tim Jones, both of whom missed the Jags’ first preseason game against the Cleveland Browns with unspecified injuries Saturday.

Both Imatorbhebhe and Jones joined the Jags after going undrafted in May. Imatorbhebhe, who many saw as a potential red-zone threat due to his 46.5-inch vert (would’ve been a combine record) joined the team after playing collegiate football at the University of Illinois, where he finished with 55 catches for 931 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns.

As for Jones, he went to Southern Miss and exited his collegiate career there with 150 receptions for 2,011 yards and nine touchdowns.

Both players will not count against the Jags’ current roster on injured reserve. They will join defensive tackle Daniel Ross there, who was also a player who the Jags placed on injured reserve Tuesday after he suffered an ankle injury Saturday against the Cleveland Browns.

2021 Jaguars roster cuts: Tracking Jacksonville’s moves on first cutdown day

Jacksonville had to cut its roster from 90 players to 85 on Tuesday, with the most notable casualty being Tim Tebow.

On Tuesday, Jacksonville had to make the first round of preseason cuts, bringing their roster down from 90 players to 85. The most notable casualty of the group was tight end, Tim Tebow, the former Heisman-winning quarterback turned professional baseball player who was attempting a return to the NFL.

Jacksonville has two more roster cutdown days before it gets down to the final 53-man roster. It must cut down from 85 to 80 on Aug. 24 before going all the way down to 53 a week later. That final cut of 27 players will be when the bulk of the notable cuts will occur.

Still, here’s a rundown of each player the Jags let go following the preseason opener.

Jags waive TE Tim Tebow among other roster moves

Tim Tebow’s return to the NFL has come to an end for now as the Jags waived him Tuesday. Four other roster moves were made, too.

With the Jacksonville Jaguars having to trim their roster down to 85 players, they started their morning making five transactions to get them there. Among them was the release of former first-round quarterback turned tight end, Tim Tebow.

The other moves the Jags made were as follows:

Tebow made his NFL return and joined the Jags after last being on a team on May 20 after he retired from Class AAA baseball for the New York Mets. He had last been with the NFL in 2015 with the Philadelphia Eagles but was waived before the regular season. Tebow, who was a first-round pick in 2010 for the Denver Broncos, was attempting to make a regular season roster for the first time since 2012.

In Saturday’s preseason game against the Cleveland Browns, Tebow didn’t register any stats but appeared to be targeted once for a pass that receiver Tavon Austin ended up snagging and advancing up the field. He also had a rough night with the blocking aspect of the game and was a player who was going to need a lot of time.

Cornerback DJ Daniel, who was waived, joined the team as an undrafted free agent after the 2021 NFL Draft out of Georgia. He only saw four snaps in the Jags preseason opener.

Both Josh Imatorbhebhe and Tim Jones, who are receivers, didn’t play in Saturday’s game due to injuries. Meanwhile, Daniel Ross sustained an ankle injury in the fourth quarter of the game after sustaining a chop block from a Browns offensive lineman.

Jags 2021 training camp: 5 under-the-radar names to watch on offense

There is always a star who pops out from nowhere during training camp and that might be Chris Manhertz for the Jags this year.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will start their training camp in a few weeks and it will be a great time to learn about the new-look team, which endured a lot of change this offseason. If fans can attend, a lot of eyes will be on notables like Trevor Lawrence, DJ Chark, and James Robinson to name a few on offense, but there will also be some under-the-radar names who catch fans by surprise.

Let’s take a look at five low-key players on offense who could surprise fans for many different reasons.

2021 NFL Draft: Jags Undrafted Free Agent (UDFA) Tracker

The Jags have began the process of adding undrafted players for the 2021 season and have already come away with one notable in Dylan Moses.

The NFL wrapped the 2021 draft up Sunday, with the Jacksonville Jaguars making nine selections. However, the scouting process to acquire more  young talent for their 2021 roster didn’t stop there.

Afterward, the team started looking to acquire undrafted free agents to fill out the remainder of the roster. In the past, this is an area the Jags have had some success with, landing players like James Robinson, and Jarrod Wilson to name a few. So far, they’ve officially come to terms with six players, including Alabama’s Dylan Moses, and more will follow.

To track them and keep track of the other undrafted signings the Jags make here is our annual tracker:

2021 NFL draft: Best remaining options for Colts on Day 3

Best remaining options for the Colts on Day 3.

The Indianapolis Colts are now in the final day of the 2021 NFL draft where they are slated to have four picks even though general manager Chris Ballard could very well add more to that by the end of the day.

The Colts bolstered their defensive line through the first two rounds of the draft. Their third-round pick was given to the Philadelphia Eagles as a part of the deal for quarterback Carson Wentz.

Indy added former Michigan edge rusher Kwity Paye in the first round and doubled down by adding former Vanderbilt defensive lineman Dayo Odeyingbo in the second round.

Here’s a look at the best remaining options for the Colts on Day 3 of the draft:

2021 NFL draft: WR prospects in each round for Colts

A look at WR prospects for the Colts.

As the 2021 NFL draft approaches, the Indianapolis Colts will be taking a look at the wide receiver position in order to add some talent to a room that has been lacking elite production for a few years now.

There are promising players in the room. Michael Pittman Jr. could take that step as the WR1 to Carson Wentz in 2021. The Colts also re-signed T.Y. Hilton to a one-year deal, giving the room some stability. Then there is the ever-reliable Zach Pascal, who led the Colts in explosive receiving plays in 2020, while Parris Campbell is hoping third time is the charm when it comes to injuries.

Even with that group of four players locked in, the Colts still need more weapons for Wentz. The 2021 draft class might be lacking size, but they have playmakers all over the board in what is another deep class.

It’s unlikely Chris Ballard will use a Day 1 pick on a wide receiver and depending on how the board falls, he may not even use a Day 2 pick either.

But let’s take a look at potential wide receiver prospects in each round for the Colts in the 2021 draft:
