Mississippi State gets first 2024 commitment in 4-star QB Josh Flowers

Flowers is the first commitment of the 2024 cycle for the Bulldogs.

The pieces are beginning to fall into place for the 2024 class of quarterbacks.

While we wait for a decision from the No. 1 overall ranked prospect Dylan Raiola, a couple of other blue-chip QB prospects have made their college commitments this week.

Midland (Texas) four-star QB Marcos Davila picked Purdue over 23 other offers on Monday. Then on Wednesday, Baker (Ala.) four-star quarterback Josh Flowers announced his commitment to Mississippi State.

Flowers (6-foot-2, 205 pounds) is ranked No. 21 among quarterbacks in his class and No. 19 overall in Alabama. He’s coming off a strong Junior season highlighting his dual-threat ability, having posted 1,453 passing yards and 10 touchdown passes plus another 1,367 yards and 15 touchdowns as a rusher.

After the news broke, Flowers told Steve Wiltfong at 247Sports that he liked the way Mississippi State’s staff runs things:

“I liked the way they treated my family with open arms. They laid out the red carpet for me. I had a film session with the offensive coordinator Coach (Kevin) Barbay, and he had my plays and the plays he usually runs and showed me the comparisons… I like the way they run things down there. The way do everything.”

According to On3, Flowers also had offers on the table from 11 other schools, including Alabama, Florida, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Wake Forest, NC State, UAB, Tulane, Indiana, Florida State and LSU. He is the first commitment of the 2024 cycle for the Bulldogs.

Which 2024 quarterbacks should be on Ohio State’s board after Dylan Raiola decommitment?

Back to square one with Buckeye quarterback recruiting #GoBucks

This wasn’t the news that Buckeye fans wanted to see. Five-star quarterback [autotag]Dylan Raiola[/autotag], the No. 1 player in the 2024 class,  decommitted from the program on Saturday. The smoke began Friday when the Arizona star scrubbed his social media of all things Ohio State.

This hurts on multiple levels, but the silver lining is the 2024 class is more than a year away from its early signing period, so [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] has plenty of time to find a replacement for Raiola. Yes, the Buckeyes will not be able to upgrade, but there are plenty of big-time quarterbacks that will consider the Buckeyes.

Since they held the commitment from Raiola, there weren’t many other offers out to quarterback in the class. Two of the four have already committed elsewhere. The third, [autotag]Jadyn Davis[/autotag], is trending to our rival, Michigan. Most likely Raiola will not return to the class, so it’s back to square one. Here are a few targets the Buckeyes should focus their efforts on.

This 2024 four-star QB will return for second visit to the Swamp

Four-star quarterback Josh Flowers enjoyed his time on campus in April, and now he’s set to work with the Florida staff in a June camp session.

Billy Napier is still trying to find a quarterback to sign from the class of 2023, but he also has his eyes on some talent that he likes in the 2024 cycle. Four-star Baker High (Mobile, Alabama) quarterback [autotag]Josh Flowers[/autotag] is one of those guys, and he’s set to return to Gainesville for his second unofficial visit to the Swamp this year, according to 247Sports.

Flowers stepped on campus for the first time in early April and came away impressed with the program, especially quarterback [autotag]Anthony Richardson[/autotag]. The rising junior said that he could see himself copying the presumed starter’s playing style and fitting into that kind of offense down the line.

Chase Calcagni, Baker High’s offensive coordinator, broke the news and added an update on another recent stop made by Flowers.

“We camped at Auburn [Monday] and will be at UF on the 20th,” Calcagni said.

While the Tigers have yet to extend an offer to the in-state recruit, Flowers has already picked up some from Alabama and Arkansas, so landing in the SEC appears likely with plenty of time on the clock until decision day. The Crimson Tide got to host him in March and Florida State also got him on campus that month.

Flowers is ranked No. 246 overall on the recently released 2024 247Sports composite. He’s also ranked No. 17 among quarterbacks in the class. 247Sports’ individual rankings place him a bit higher at No. 195 overall and No. 16 at his position.

4-star quarterback in 2024 class sets June visit with LSU

Mobile prospect Josh Flowers will attend camp in Baton Rouge on June 16.

The Tigers are still trying to find a quarterback to add to their class in 2023, but coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag], offensive coordinator [autotag]Mike Denbrock[/autotag] and quarterbacks coach [autotag]Joe Sloan[/autotag] are already doing their due diligence on signal-callers entering their junior years of high school.

One of them, Baker (Mobile, Alabama) prospect [autotag]Josh Flowers[/autotag], will be heading to Baton Rouge this summer for a camp. Flowers — a four-star quarterback and top-100 player according to the On3 Consensus — will visit LSU on June 16, according to On3’s Sam Spiegelman.

He will also take June trips to Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia and Tennessee. Here’s what he had to say about the Tigers.

“It feels like another home for me there in Louisiana,” he said. “I love it up there. They came out to spring practice to watch me throw. They really like how I throw and the type of player I am.”

Flowers has picked up a lot of recruiting attention over the last couple months, especially from the in-state Crimson Tide and the Gators. Those two programs are currently the favorites to land him per the On3 RPM, but a strong impression during his visit could vault the Tigers up his list.
