LSU baseball takes Game 3 to sweep Missouri

The Tigers got back on track in the SEC with a weekend sweep of Missouri.

It was a busy day in Baton Rouge on Saturday as the LSU Tigers were looking for a series sweep of Missouri, and they got it with an 8-6 win in Game 3.

[autotag]Samuel Dutton[/autotag] got the start on the mound, but after a first-inning error, Missouri hit a two-run home run to take an early 2-0 lead. Dutton had his shortest outing of the year as he was pulled from the game after pitching only 1.2 innings while allowing three hits, two runs and one walk with one strikeout.

But in the bottom of the third inning, [autotag]Brayden Jobert[/autotag] picked up where he left off Friday night with a solo home run to get the Tigers on the board.

That homer was followed by an RBI single for Josh Berry to tie the game 2-2 as we headed to the fourth inning.

In the bottom of the fourth, LSU took its first lead of the ballgame as they plated three runs. It started with a [autotag]Tyler McManus[/autotag] two-RBI double to make it 4-2 and that was followed by a [autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag] RBI single to make it 5-2.

In the top of the fifth inning, Missouri cut into the Tigers’ lead as it plated a run on an RBI single to make it 5-3. In the bottom of the fifth, LSU got that run right back as [autotag]Jacob Berry[/autotag] hit a home run of his own to extend the lead to 6-3 heading to the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] hit an RBI double to score Berry and make it 7-3 Tigers.

In the top of the eighth inning, Missouri scored a run on a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 7-4. Then with runners on the corners and one out, [autotag]Josh Thompson[/autotag] made an error on a would-be ground ball and another run scored for Mizzou.

[autotag]Devin Fontenot[/autotag] came in to pitch, and he walked a run home to make it 7-6. [autotag]Riley Cooper[/autotag] came in to pitch with the bases loaded and two outs, and he got the first batter he faced to ground out to save the lead. In the bottom of the eighth, LSU got an insurance run as Pearson hit an RBI single to make it 8-6.

Cooper came back out to pitch the top of the ninth inning and try and close out the game and the series. He struck out the first batter, the second batter lined out and the third batter grounded out to end the game as the Tigers won 8-6 and swept Missouri.

With the win, LSU now has a record of 27-12 (10-8 SEC). The Tigers will play at New Orleans on Tuesday night before playing their next SEC series against Georgia next weekend at Alex Box Stadium.

LSU baseball drops Game 1 against Arkansas

The Tigers couldn’t pull off a win on the road in the series opener against the Razorbacks.

LSU strolled into Fayetteville, Arkansas, to face the No. 7 Arkansas Razorbacks coming off of a 4-0 week last week, and the question everyone had on their minds was whether the Tigers could keep it rolling.

[autotag]Ma’Khail Hilliard[/autotag] got the start on the mound for LSU in game one and he had another quality start as he worked five full innings allowing two runs, four walks and five strikeouts. However, that wasn’t enough to get a win as Arkansas took Game 1 with a 5-4 win.

The Razorbacks drew first blood in the bottom of the first when they scored an unearned run after an LSU error to make the game 1-0. In the bottom of the third inning, Hilliard walked a hitter with bases loaded to make it 2-0 Arkansas.

LSU entered the sixth inning with zero hits on the evening, but they proceeded to quickly flip the script as the Tigers scored three runs thanks to a trio of singles by [autotag]Josh Berry[/autotag], [autotag]Cade Doughty[/autotag], and [autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag] to make it 3-2 LSU after six innings.

Arkansas didn’t waste much time mounting a comeback as it scored three runs of its own in the bottom of the seventh inning to reclaim the lead 5-3 headed to the top of the eighth. In the bottom of the eighth, the Tigers got one of those runs back via a Berry single to make it 5-4 headed to the bottom of the eighth.

In the top of the ninth inning, Stevenson got a single, but that was as close as LSU would come to a comeback as they lost game one 5-4. With the loss, LSU drops to 23-10 (7-6 SEC) on the year. Game 2 will be on Friday night at 6 p.m. CT.

LSU baseball dominates Louisiana-Monroe, extends winning streak to 3

It’s Brayden Jobert’s world, and we’re all just living in it.

“YOU CAN PUCKER UP AND KISS THAT BABY GOODBYE! HE’S HOTTER THAN A FIRE ANT ON A FEVER BLISTER! Jobert, swinging it like Excalibur right now,” play-by-play commentator Lyn Rollins proclaimed during Tuesday night’s game against Louisiana-Monroe.

It is truly Brayden Jobert’s world; we are all just living in it. Facing the Warhawks at Alex Box Stadium, the Tigers picked up right where they left off on Sunday.

[autotag]Tyrann Mathieu[/autotag] was back in the bayou to make the first pitch, and that was the start of a great night for LSU as it pushed its winning streak to three games with a dominant 15-4 win heading into a weekend series against the Auburn Tigers.

In the top of the first inning, ULM hit a solo home run to take a 1-0 lead, but that was the last sliver of hope it would get in this game. In the bottom of the inning, the scoring spree started for the Tigers. First, [autotag]Josh Berry[/autotag] tied the game up on an RBI single.

Second, Jobert hit a three-RBI double to make it 4-1.

Third, [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] hit an RBI double, and last, [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag] hit an RBI single to make the score 6-1 LSU after one inning. The Tigers would get on the board again in the bottom of the third when Dugas hit a solo home run to left field to make it 7-1.

In the top of the fourth, [autotag]Cale Lansville[/autotag] came in to pitch and he surrendered three Warhawk runs to make it 7-4 after four innings. LSU scored again in the bottom of the sixth when Jobert hit a solo homer to make it 8-4.

That was followed by a [autotag]Cade Doughty[/autotag] sacrifice fly to make it 9-4 after six innings. In the bottom of the seventh, [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] scored on a past ball and Jobert hit yet another home run. This time, it was a three-run shot to make it 13-4 LSU after seven innings.

In the bottom of the eighth, [autotag]Drew Bianco[/autotag] was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score another run, and [autotag]Jack Merrifield[/autotag] hit a sacrifice fly to make it 15-4 headed to the top of the ninth. [autotag]Ty Floyd[/autotag] came in to finish the game on the mound in the ninth and worked a quick 1-2-3 inning.

With the win, LSU moves to 18-7 on the year and 3-3 in conference play. It will play the Auburn Tigers at home starting this Thursday, with the first pitch of Game 1 scheduled for 6 p.m. CT at The Box.
