Befitting the top two programs in the country, there are loads of future NFL players on both squads. Not all are first-round talents or perfect fits for the Lions, however. Here are 15 players from the CFP championship that Detroit fans should know for 2022 NFL draft purposes.

The improved play of Jordan Battle and DeMarcco Hellams has transformed the ‘Bama defense

The improved play of Jordan Battle and DeMarcco Hellams has transformed the ‘Bama defense

Even though I believe the saying “defense wins championships” is now dated in the modern era of college football, I still think playing quality defense is important.

Early in the 2021 season, the Alabama defense struggled at times. Whether it was the abysmal rush defense against the Florida Gators or the busted coverages that led to a loss against Texas A&M, the defense was not performing at a championship level.

Late in the season, you started to see a much-improved defense step on the field. A lot of that had to do with the play of Alabama safeties, Jordan Battle and DeMarcco Hellams.

Both Battle and Hellams are currently playing the best football of their Alabama careers.

In the SEC Championship Game against the Georgia Bulldogs, both Battle and Hellams played really solid with each recording an interception off of Stetson Bennett. Hellams’ interception came in the red zone halting a Bulldogs drive, while Battle turned his into a pick-six.

In the last three contests, Battle and Hellams have combined for 44 tackles and two interceptions.

If Battle and Hellams can continue their good play, the Alabama defense should be in good shape for another run at a championship.

5 impact players for the Tide in semifinal matchup with Cincinnati

The stage is set and the anticipation is mounting as Alabama and Cincinnati prepare to clash on New Year’s Eve in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.

Like most contests of this magnitude, a handful of plays made by a handful of players will go a long way in determining the outcome of the game.

Today we are going to look at five impact players for Alabama that I believe Crimson Tide fans need to be on the lookout for come Friday afternoon.

Let’s roll!

2022 NFL mock draft: Eagles reload in Draft Wire’s latest 3-round projections

2022 #NFL mock draft: Philadelphia #Eagles reload in Draft Wire’s latest 3-round projections

The Eagles are currently competing for one of the NFL’s final remaining playoff spots, but that hasn’t stopped mock draft season from revving up.

After Carson Wentz reached his snap threshold, Philadelphia earned a third first-round pick and that should allow Howie Roseman to build around Jalen Hurts.

Draft Wire just revealed their latest 3-round projections, and the Eagles reload with established stars at several key positions.

Alabama leads the SEC with 6 first-team All-SEC selections, earns 11 total

Here’s every Alabama player that made the All-SEC team.

Following another SEC Championship win, the Crimson Tide are firmly in the playoffs as the No. 1 seed and will play the Cincinnati Bearcats on Dec. 31 in Dallas, TX in the semifinals.

On Tuesday, the SEC announced its 2021 All-SEC team, and the Crimson Tide was well represented with six members earning a spot on the team.

Top prospects shine as Alabama knocks off Georgia in SEC title game

Alabama’s top prospects led the way in a convincing win over top-ranked Georgia in the SEC title game

Alabama’s star-studded offense made the nation’s most dominant defense look silly Saturday night, as Alabama put up huge numbers all night long in a convincing 41-24 win over top-ranked Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.

He’s not draft eligible just yet, but Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young led the way with a Heisman-worthy performance, throwing for over 400 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions.

The Tide’s talented tandem of Jameson Williams and John Metchie III led the way through the air, combining for 13 receptions and 281 yards, catching all three of Young’s touchdown throws.

Blue-chip talent was shining for Bama on defense, as well, with Jordan Battle’s late pick-six giving the Tide a commanding lead that would prove to be insurmountable.

This result likely ensures that both Georgia and Alabama will make the College Football Playoff, setting the stage for a potential rematch down the road.

Jordan Battle with pick-six as Alabama leads Georgia

Alabama has gotten a pick-six from Jordan Battle

Nick Saban and Alabama opened a three-touchdown lead on Georgia in the fourth quarter of the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta.

The score bumped to 38-17 when Jordan Battle picked off Stetson Bennett and returned it 42 yards for a score.

It was the second pick of the game thrown by Bennett.

Kirby Smart and Georgia are going to see No. 9s in Crimson in their nightmares for a while.

Battle wears that digit and so does Alabama QB Bryce Young, who was having a monster game.

The Bulldogs came in favored and 12-0. They took the next kickoff and got a touchdown pass from Bennett to Brock Bowers to close within 14 points with 9:42 left.

WATCH: Jordan Battle takes a pick to the house to put Bama up 38-17 in SEC Championship Game

Alabama is up 38-17 thanks to Jordan Battle’s pick six!

The Crimson Tide defense is absolutely dominating the Georgia offense in this SEC Championship Game in Atlanta.

Alabama has two takeaways in this game, both interceptions. The first was caught by DeMarrco Hellams in the third quarter to stop a Georgia drive that had picked up 50+ yards.

The second came on a crucial drive for Bulldogs quarterback Stetson Bennett if they were to have a chance to win.

On a third down at their own 31, Bennett dropped back to pass but threw the ball directly to Alabama defensive back Jordan Battle. Battle intercepted the pass and returned it 42 yards to the house for a touchdown.

Alabama now leads 38-17 with just over 11 minutes remaining in the game.

CBS sideline reporter Jamie Erdahl whips Alabama gridders in basketball game

A CBS sideline reporter schooled a trio of Alabama basketball players in a basketball game

It’s a good thing you have to be great to play football at Alabama.

A trio of Crimson Tide football players was schooled by CBS sideline reporter Jamie Erdahl in a game of P-I-G.

They didn’t play H-O-R-S-E as Erdahl astutely set up the rules because ‘Bama was playing the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday.

The Crimson Tide defeated Arkansas, 42-35, to earn a date in the SEC Championship Game against top-ranked Georgia.

The genesis of the challenge came because Alabama junior safety Jordan Battle boasted he was the best hoops player on the Alabama football team.

The other foes were star quarterback Bryce Young and junior wideout Jameson Williams.

Awful Announcing provided some information on Erdahl’s hoops prowess.

Erdahl played basketball and softball at St. Olaf College in Minnesota, setting a still-standing single-season assist record of 129 in basketball in the 2008-09 season.

The ‘Bama trio of gridders were hustled by a ringer as it turned out.

Well played, Jamie Erdahl.
