Alabama football countdown: 9 days until kickoff

We are 9 days from Alabama football kicking off its season on the road against the Missouri Tigers to start a 10-game, SEC only schedule.

There has been a lot of uncertainty surrounding college football over the last couple of months, but as of right now, the season still looks like it’s a go for the SEC, ACC and Big 12.

So, what does that mean? It means that we can continue the Countdown to Kickoff en route to the Crimson Tide — and the rest of the SEC — getting things underway on Sept. 26.

With it now being Sept. 17, we are officially 9 days away from the start!

Two players are currently wearing the No. 9 for Alabama. Sophomore safety Jordan Battle wears it on defense while true freshman quarterback Bryce Young wears it on defense.

10 Alabama players who need to step up in 2020

Alabama is looking to make it back to the College Football Playoff in 2020. These 10 players will be crucial factors in that quest.

Alabama is fresh off its first season without making the College Football Playoff since its creation prior to 2014. In order to make it back and, once again, compete for a national championship in 2020, the Crimson Tide is going to need several players to step up.

Below is a collective list of 10 of those players who will be heavily relied on this upcoming season, and it’s likely that those included will be deciding factors in determining just how good — or how bad — Alabama will be.

First up, a second-year safety…

1. Jordan Battle, Safety

Jordan Battle is the only safety on the roster with starting experience after earning four starts as a true freshman in 2020. Now, he’ll be relied on as one of the leaders on defense while becoming more of a consistent playmaking presence.

Is he Alabama’s next big-time safety prospect? Absolutely.

Alabama player snapshot: No. 9 Jordan Battle

Sophomore Jordan Battle is the next man up on Alabama football’s player snapshot, which highlights each scholarship player.

As we continue through the offseason, Roll Tide Wire has decided to bring fans a quick snapshot of each scholarship player listed on Alabama’s 2020 football roster.

Each day, we’ll release anywhere from 2-4 player profiles giving fans a glimpse into the players who will be available this upcoming season. Whether that’s size, classification, hometowns or recruiting rankings coming out of high school, we’ve got you covered.

Also included in each article is a quick recap letting you know what to expect from that player for the upcoming 2020 season and beyond.

Next up on the list is safety Jordan Battle out of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.).

Height: 6-1 / Weight: 201

Class: Sophomore

Hometown: Fort Lauderdale (Fla.)

High School: St. Thomas Aquinas

HS ranking (247Sports): 4-star / No. 43 overall / No. 2 S / No. 6 FLA

HS ranking (Rivals): 4-star / No. 37 overall / No. 2 S / No. 6 FLA

Analysis: Jordan Battle was an immediate contributor for the Alabama defense in 2019, as the true freshman safety accumulated 30 total tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, one interception and one pass deflection.

With both starting safeties, Xavier McKinney and Jared Mayden, off to the NFL (as well as two other starters in the secondary in Trevon Diggs and Shyheim Carter), the importance of Battle’s presence cannot be overstated.

He’s a balanced player who’s shown playmaking ability in coverage and against the run, and he should continue to take noticeable steps towards becoming one of the conference’s best safeties — and maybe even a top safety in college football.
