Joc Pederson’s grounder down the line hilariously turned into a wild Little League home run

The Rockies are down BAD.

The Diamondbacks have been among baseball’s hottest teams since the All-Star break, surging from out of a playoff position to a four-game cushion atop the NL wild card standings. The Colorado Rockies, on the other hand, have remained awful.

That stark contrast was on display early on in the D-backs’ matchup with Colorado at Chase Field on Wednesday.

The Rockies couldn’t even make it out of the first inning without embarrassing themselves in a huge way.

With Joc Pederson at the plate for Arizona, he turned on Tanner Gordon’s changeup for a hard grounder fair down the first-base line. It should have been a two-RBI double for Pederson and ended with that. But Michael Toglia tried to catch Pederson napping at second base, and, uh, some throws should not be made.

Toglia’s throw was extremely off the mark and went all the way to the left-field wall. Pederson got to his feet and scored easily for the Little League home run.

Officially, that went down as a double for Pederson and an error. The D-backs scored four runs in that first inning.

Joc Pederson hit a ball so hard that it pierced the webbing of Andrew Vaughn’s glove

That is so unlucky.

Sometimes, fans probably don’t realize just how hard Major League Baseball players can hit a baseball. The view from the broadcast doesn’t do it justice.

Andrew Vaughn’s glove can attest to that.

During Wednesday’s game between the San Francisco Giants and Chicago White Sox, Joc Pederson smoked a line drive against Dylan Cease with an exit velocity of 109.1 mph. The ball was hit right at Vaughn who made a perfect reaction to give himself a chance at retiring Pederson. The problem: Vaughn’s glove couldn’t handle a baseball at that speed.

When trying to figure out what happened, the White Sox broadcast was in disbelief to see that the baseball went right through the webbing of Vaughn’s glove. A 109.1 mph liner will do that.

It honestly doesn’t get much unluckier than that for an infielder. He did everything right to make a play, but the equipment just couldn’t hold up its end of the bargain. Thankfully for Vaughn, he didn’t get penalized for the play as it was ruled a single.

MLB fans were also stunned by that play. Pederson crushed that baseball.

MLB fans had plenty of jokes after mics picked up Joc Pederson’s loud F-bomb

He was just a *little* upset.

In recent years, Major League Baseball has embraced the idea of more players wearing microphones during games. It makes for engaging in-game interviews and fun social content.

Well, Joc Pederson didn’t need to wear a microphone in order for us to hear what he said on Sunday.

The San Francisco Giants outfielder was coming off a big game in Saturday’s win over the Yankees where he had a home run and two runs scored. And during the sixth inning on Sunday, he had a prime opportunity to get the Giants within a run against Ron Marinaccio.

Pederson knew it too. (Warning: NSFW language)

Marinaccio left a four-seam fastball around the heart of the plate — a perfect pitch for Pederson to send into the short porch in right field. But when Pederson got under the ball and popped it up, he stayed in the box briefly and shouted an F-bomb that was loud enough to get picked up on the broadcast.

Joc was just a *bit* frustrated there.

But hey, you can’t really get mad about players showing emotion. It’s what baseball really needs. Fans also found a way to have some fun with Joc’s strong language.

Tommy Pham is like the rest of us, rushing to check his fantasy lineup after leaving his day job … with the Red Sox

“Gotta see if Michael Thomas went off.”

Tommy Pham takes his fantasy football serious.

We found that out in May when the then-Cincinnati Reds outfielder slapped San Francisco Giants outfielder Joc Pederson over a dispute in their fantasy league. Everyone weighed in on the slap, from 49ers running back Jeff Wilson Jr. to Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp. Mike Trout even caught strays for being “the worst commissioner in fantasy sports.”

So, it should come as no surprise that after Pham scored the only run in the Boston Red Sox win over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday, all he wanted to do was rush to see how his fantasy players were performing in the opening week of the NFL season. And honestly, we get it.

“Gotta see if Michael Thomas went off,” Pham said to close his post-game interview. “Got a lot of depth. Gotta see if my picks clicked.”

Pham will be happy to know Thomas did go off, hauling in two touchdown catches in the Saints’ comeback win over the Falcons. His Reds and Red Sox have been bad this year, but things might be looking up for Pham’s fantasy team.

Milwaukee Brewers scoreboard perfectly trolled Joc Pederson’s fantasy team before the NFL season-opener

Brewers: 1, Pederson: 0

MLB center fielder Joc Pederson is a man of many talents.

He’s a two-time MLB world champion, a two-time MLB All-Star and apparently and most importantly, an expert navigator of fantasy football league rules.

In case you’re out of the loop, Pederson and current Boston Red Sox outfielder Tommy Pham got into a little dispute over the rules and roster management of a fantasy football league the two participate in. One thing led to another earlier this season and Pham greeted Pederson in the outfield, prior to a game, with a slap to the face.

The Milwaukee Brewers’ scoreboard at American Family Field made sure to jokingly boost Pederson’s fantasy football resume before his at-bat for the San Francisco Giants during game on Thursday afternoon.

Pederson claims he was doing nothing illegal in the fantasy league, just simply opting to keep one of the players locked in the IR spot.

Anyways, Pham was suspended, which makes this story even wilder. And between the slap and the suspension, it’ll probably never go away.

So, hats off to the Brewers. This little jab at Pederson is pretty hilarious.

Joc Pederson tried to dab on the Rockies, and it didn’t go very well

Joc had to do it to ’em.

Joc Pederson is one of baseball’s eccentric personalities, gaining widespread fame during the Atlanta Braves’ World Series run last fall for his trademark pearl necklace and increasing it when he was part of an on-field altercation in May in which he was slapped by Reds outfielder Tommy Pham during batting practice.

Pederson later stated that the incident stemmed from a fantasy football dispute.

This guy is just a magnet for intrigue, so if anyone could resurrect the dying meme that is the dab, it’s him. Right?

Eh.

After a hard-hit single to right field in the top of the first during Friday night’s game against the Colorado Rockies, Pederson — who now plays for the San Francisco Giants — took the opportunity to put Colorado in its place. Sort of.

You know what? I love this.

Say what you will about the quality of the dab — it could have been executed better. But you have to respect Pederson, who knows no shame and went in for the second dab even after the first was less than ideal.

That’s the kind of confidence one can only admire.

Unfortunately, Pederson’s energy wasn’t matched by the rest of the roster as San Francisco lost 7-4 to a Rockies team with a 52-69 record. The loss drops the Giants below .500 in the challenging NL West.

A Wild Card bid may not be in the cards as Pederson’s team sits 5.5 games out of the third and final spot, but he’s still bringing the heat to the ballpark every single night.

Joc Pederson brought back his trademark pearl necklace to face the Braves and it’s the best

The best!

It was a bummer that Joc Pederson didn’t bring back his trademark pearl necklace when he joined the San Francisco Giants this season, after it brought him and the Atlanta Braves so much luck in 2021.

But with the Giants in Atlanta for a series this week — he got his World Series ring on Monday —  the pearls are back! And on Tuesday night, he wore them and hit a dinger against his old team.

This is simply the best and should be celebrated as such, even though it’s likely the pearls are going away after the trip to Atlanta. Check it out:

An MLB fan turned $20K into $85K off an incredible 6-player home run parlay

A night of countless, profitable dingers.

This season, it’s been hard not to speculate whether the MLB has done something to its baseballs.

For a while, home runs were down — way down — and of course, that meant scoring was down, too. Pitchers couldn’t get a good grip on the ball with a crackdown on substances that help with such an issue. Hitters couldn’t mash the ball the way they wanted to.

If you were a betting person, it probably would’ve been a bit silly to bet on a home run or scoring burst. But hey: Sometimes you have to be bold for glory. One lucky fan, who apparently thought there might be a wave of home runs on Friday, hit the absolute jackpot.

Between 15 different games and all 30 teams, players hit 57 home runs on Friday. You read that right. A big 5-7, tied for the fourth-most on any single day in MLB history:

And because the bettor thought Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo, Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, Joc Pederson, and Joey Votto would all hit dingers on the same day: That very fortunate fan turned $20,000 into a near-whopping $85,000.

Wow. Talk about striking the exact right chord with a bet. Baseball has a home run day for the ages, and a fan cashes in on incredible dinger after dinger. There are definitely worse ways to spend a Friday.

Cooper Kupp weighs in on the ridiculous Joc Pederson-Tommy Pham fantasy football beef

“I’m sure there’s actually an embarrassingly large number of people that actually do relate to that.”

The most ridiculous/awesome sports story of the year has been the fantasy football beef between two MLB players – Joc Pederson and Tommy Pham – that led to Pham being suspended three games for slapping Pederson.

That’s seriously a thing that happened, which is amazing.

Pham even took it to another level this week when he said that Mike Trout was “the worst commissioner in fantasy sports” for allowing what happened in their league to happen.

I mean, what a world we are living in!

On Friday I had the chance to talk with Rams star WR Cooper Kupp, who is also a fantasy football God, for USA Today Sports’ weekly show Sports Seriously and I had to ask him what he thought of this whole ridiculous/awesome story.

Here’s that conversation:

That’s well said by the reigning Super Bowl MVP..

And calm down, fantasy football players. Especially if you’re a MLB player. It’s just fantasy football!
