Zach Wilson loves the Jets’ 2022 draft class

Zach Wilson was very happy the Jets drafted him a new receiver, running back and tight end.

No one on the Jets benefited from the team’s 2022 draft more than Zach Wilson – and the quarterback knows it.

“I think everyone we picked is exactly who I wanted us to pick,” Wilson said Tuesday. “I think as an organization everyone saw exactly what we were looking for and they were able to deliver that.”

Joe Douglas got Wilson a new receiver, a new running back and a new tight end on offense. The Jets also added key defensive pieces that should make life easier for the offense in the long run.

WR Garrett Wilson should play a big pass-catching role for New York alongside Corey Davis and Elijah Moore, while RB Breece Hall looks like a potential three-down back who will be a great running mate for Michael Carter. TE Jeremy Ruckert could develop into a nice pass-catching option for Wilson as well behind Tyler Conklin and C.J. Uzomah.

Ahmad Gardner gives the Jets a legit shutdown cornerback on the outside with D.J. Reed, while DE Jermaine Johnson could develop into a mainstay on the defensive line. Even fourth-round DE Micheal Clemons has the ability to contribute on defense.

The Jets believe they’re a team on the rise, and there’s no reason for Wilson not to progress in his second season after the team’s 2022 offseason. New York added a Pro Bowl guard in Laken Tomlinson and two starting tight ends – all three of whom should help Wilson immensely along with the offensive rookies.

Jeremy Ruckert signs rookie deal with Jets

In case you missed it, Jeremy Ruckert has officially signed his rookie contract with the Jets. #GoBucks

We’ve got another Ohio State NFL draftee that has signed his rookie deal with his new team.

Former Buckeye tight end Jeremy Ruckert inked his entry-level contract with the New York Jets on Monday. The team reported the news in a video tweet on Monday with Ruckert signing the contract surrounded by his father and other supporters.

Ruckert was selected in the third round of this year’s NFL draft by the Jets. He is one of six former Ohio State players that heard their names called during the seven rounds of the draft. Ruckert was thought to be one of the best tight ends in the class with a combination of a developed blocking game to go along with an underutilized skill set as a pass-catcher.

For Ruckert, it has to be a surreal moment. He grew up in New York and was a Jets fan before deciding to attend Ohio State as one of the top-rated tight ends coming out of high school in the 2018 recruiting class.

Terms of the contract were not made readily available, but based on his selection, it is expected to be somewhere around $5,044,908 for four years with an $849,024 signing bonus according to spotrac.

Ruckert makes it all six Ohio State players that have now signed their rookie deals with their new teams. They can all now focus on moving forward and preparing to get on the field and in shape to begin their NFL careers.

Pictures of recently drafted Ohio State players at NFL rookie minicamps

Enjoy some photos of some of the recently drafted Ohio State players at NFL rookie minicamps. #GoBucks

We’ve got a new batch of former Ohio State players now officially a part of the NFL. All told, six former Buckeyes were selected in the 2022 NFL draft, with a few more receiving invites as undrafted free agents or as rookie minicamp participants.

And while things move fast with one former OSU running back already being shown the door, there are still guys that have scarlet and gray in their blood either competing for a spot or getting acclimated to their new surroundings.

Since we’re interested in how things go for these former Ohio State players, we’ve kept our eyes out for photos of guys like Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, and Jeremy Ruckert in action in NFL cities across this great country of ours.

Here are some of the best high-resolution pictures of the latest former Ohio State players making their first appearances as official NFL players at rookie minicamps.

Recapping where every former Ohio State player landed after the 2022 NFL draft

Recapping where every former Buckeye landed after the NFL draft. #GoBucks

The 2022 NFL Draft is now in the books and a number of former Ohio State Buckeyes heard their name called and a few more either earned undrafted free agent contracts or were invited to minicamps. With all of the excitement coming to an end, it feels like a good time to recap where every former Ohio State Buckeye has landed in the NFL.

It should come as no surprise that both Ohio State receivers were selected in the first round, but it was a tad surprising to see some familiar names fall so far down the board, but perhaps that should have been expected given the disappointing season. Let’s break down where every former Buckeye landed.

Jeremy Ruckert selected in the third round of the 2022 NFL draft

Ruckert off the board! #GoBucks #NFLdraft

Ohio State has its fourth player taken off the board in the 2022 NFL draft with the selection of tight end Jeremy Ruckert. And what team did he go to? It’s his homecoming of sorts as the Lindenhurst, New York native was taken by the Jets as the No. 101 overall pick.

Ruckert came to the Buckeyes as one of the No. 2 ranked tight end in the 2018 recruiting class. And while nobody will ever pretend that Ohio State has utilized its tight ends to their full potential throughout history, Ruckert had plenty of bright spots as a great receiving tight end when given the opportunity.

While Ruckert still needs work as a blocker, he has improved greatly from the time he stepped on campus. In another offensive system, the 6-foot, 5-inch, 252-pounder might have been known as the best tight end in the county.

This is no doubt a potential steal if Ruckert gets the ability to be showcased in New York, as he joins another teammate, Garrett Wilson.

2022 NFL draft: Jets take Jeremy Ruckert with 101st pick

The Jets used the 101st pick in the 2022 NFL draft on TE Jeremy Ruckert.

The Jets didn’t need another tight end, but they spent a third-round pick on one anyway.

New York used the 101st pick of the 2022 NFL draft on Ohio State’s Jeremy Ruckert. He will reunite with WR Garrett Wilson, one of Gang Green’s first-round picks. Ruckert will also compete for targets alongside C.J. Uzomah and Tyler Conklin, whom the Jets signed in free agency this offseason.

Should Ruckert not get an abundance of looks, it will hardly be new to him. With receivers like Wilson and Chris Olave surrounding him, the tight end wasn’t able to post prolific receiving numbers for the Buckeyes. Ruckert, who is a Long Island native who grew up a Jets fan, totaled 54 catches for 615 yards and 12 touchdowns in college.

While his Ohio State numbers don’t jump off the page, Ruckert should be able to produce more at the NFL level with a little bit of seasoning. For now, he gives the Jets excellent depth in a suddenly stacked tight end room.

9 TEs the Colts should target in the NFL draft

Here are 9 TEs the Colts should target in the 2022 NFL draft.

When it comes to adding depth in the 2022 NFL draft, the tight end position will be one the Indianapolis Colts are likely to have an eye on throughout the biggest weekend of the offseason.

While there is no Kyle Pitts type of a prospect in this year’s class, there appears to be some solid depth with plenty of potential throughout. This class seems to offer a nice mix of traditional Y tight ends along with more athletic, F/Flex options in the passing game.

The Colts seem pretty bullish on their current room but they also know some depth needs to be added. Mo Alie-Cox was signed to a three-year extension taking over as the starter for Jack Doyle, and Kylen Granson enters his second season working in the “move” role as a pass catcher.

The Colts may prioritize other positions ahead of tight end considering the depth in this class and how they may feel about that starting duo, but there is plenty of talent to consider on Days 2 and 3 of the draft.

Here are nine tight ends the Colts should consider in the 2022 NFL draft:

Projecting what round every Ohio State offensive player will be drafted

Projecting what round every Buckeye on offense will be drafted #GoBucks

Welcome to April. It’s officially NFL draft month and with every passing day, we get closer and closer to seeing some former college football stars get paid and possibly become stars. I wanted to take a glance at where former Ohio State stars might get selected.

Today I take a look at the former Ohio State offensive stars that could hear their names called during the 2022 NFL draft and try to project which round they may get taken in. This year there are six former Ohio State offensive studs in the class that have the skill and goods to make it at the next level.

So, let’s get to all the fun.

NFL draft: TE Jeremy Ruckert could fill a Browns need

While tight end hasn’t been noted as a huge need, it is still a need for the Browns. This video shows how Ruckert could fit their system:

The Cleveland Browns don’t have a lot of holes to fill but the ones they do are very important ones. Without a commitment from DE Jadeveon Clowney, despite social media engagement with Myles Garrett, edge rusher is a big need. After adding WR Amari Cooper, the Browns released WR Jarvis Landry leading to another possible need unless Landry returns.

One need that hasn’t gotten a ton of attention is at tight end. While HC Kevin Stefanski may have fewer multiple tight end sets on the field at a time, currently just Harrison Bryant is under contract after producing last year. David Njoku still has not signed his franchise tag tender or a long-term deal with the team.

Ohio State product Jeremy Ruckert is seen as one of the few tight ends in this draft who can block in-line while also providing some threat as a pass-catcher. He isn’t going to stretch the seam as much as someone like Njoku can but he does provide some of that ability as seen in this video:

Brian Baldinger does a great job of showing Ruckert’s ability as a blocker, something that would transition over to Cleveland’s offense for sure.

Ruckert wasn’t targeted a ton in the Buckeyes’ offense but still produced 12 touchdowns out of his 54 receptions.

He is projected to be drafted in the third round, where the Browns have two picks. While GM Andrew Berry won’t only be focusing on needs with his limited draft picks, after the Deshaun Watson and Cooper trades, but with bigger needs on the defensive line and receiver, a third-round tight end may not be the best use.

If Berry does use a selection on Ruckert, his presence would allow Njoku and Bryant to split out more often knowing he can come in as a rookie and help as a blocker.
