UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance money was sent out after UFC Seattle, with veteran Andre Fili topping the card.

SEATTLE – Fighters from Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 252 event took home UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay totaling $185,000.

The program, a comprehensive plan that includes outfitting requirements, media obligations and other items under the fighter code of conduct, replaces the previous payments made under the UFC Athlete Outfitting Policy.

UFC Fight Night 252 took place at Climate Pledge Arena in Washington. The entire card streamed on ESPN+.

Under the UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance program’s payout tiers, which appropriate the money generated by Venum’s multi-year sponsorship with the UFC, fighters are paid based on their total number of UFC bouts, as well as Zuffa-era WEC fights (January 2007 and later) and Zuffa-era Strikeforce bouts (April 2521 and later). Fighters with 1-3 bouts receive $4,000 per appearance; 4-5 bouts get $4,500; 6-10 bouts get $6,000; 11-15 bouts earn $11,000; 16-20 bouts pocket $16,000; and 21 bouts and more get $21,000. Additionally, champions earn $42,000 while title challengers get $32,000.

In addition to experience-based pay, UFC fighters will receive in perpetuity royalty payments amounting to 20-30 percent of any UFC merchandise sold that bears their likeness, according to officials.

Rob Font vs. Jean Matsumoto UFC Seattle preview

Font (21-8 MMA, 11-7 UFC) has experienced mixed results of late, snapping two-fight skids twice while losing four of his past six. Font is coming off a unanimous decision over Kyle Phillips last October. A victory would give Font his first winning streak since 2021. … Matsumoto (16-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) is a 2023 Dana White’s Contender Series alum who’s won his first two UFC bouts, most recently a unanimous decision against Brad Katona last October.

Despite having Dominick Cruz drop out of the main event, the UFC matchmakers were able to salvage the Font side of the equation by booking Matsumoto on short notice.

Matsumoto was originally slated to fight in two weeks, so the 25-year-old won’t exactly be coming off the couch. The UFC was nice enough to book this at a catchweight of 140 pounds due to the one-week’s notice nature of it all, but that could ultimately benefit Font, who is big for the division.

I was admittedly surprised to see Matsumoto favored, but I’m guessing that the oddsmakers like the age gap, accompanied by the fact that Matsumoto can be an aggressive grappler in spots. Couple that with Font’s porous takedown defense percentage, and the potential pathway for the Brazilian becomes a bit more clear.

However, when you actually go back and watch the tape, you’ll see that Font has quietly improved his defense along the fence (a place where Matsumoto makes a majority of his attempts). In addition, Font has also sharpened his transitional grappling and getup game, utilizing underhooks in conjunction with wall walks or using butterflies to create space and invert.

The important thing to note about the options listed above is that none of them involve serious front-headlock exposure, which is the area where Matsumoto makes his money.

Matsumoto also has power on the feet, but his lack of head movement and angles could feed him right into the collar ties of Font.

I suppose Font crapping the bed isn’t out of the equation, but I really like the chances of the New England native in this spot. A club and sub for the American is quietly on the table, but I’ll officially pick Font to take this one on the scorecards.

The oddsmakers and the public are slightly favoring the Brazilian fighter, listing Matsumoto (-168) and Font (+136) via FanDuel.

Every UFC newcomer in 2024: Full list of over 100 debuting fighters

Check out the names and records of each fighter who made their UFC debut in 2024.

Every year, the UFC welcomes new faces to the promotion.

Some will become ranked fighters, future title challengers, and possibly champions. A couple of names have already made a significant impact in their debut year.

Kayla Harrison, who is ranked No. 2 by the promotion in the women’s bantamweight division, is likely next up for a title shot. Carlos Prates claimed No. 14 in the welterweight division after ripping through four opponents.

On the flip side, unfortunately, some of the names will fizzle out and look to continue their careers in other promotions.

In 2024, the new names and faces reached triple digits, totaling 103. Those fighters went 46-57. Debuting fighters who faced an opponent with at least one bout of UFC experience went 29-39.

For me to be in the UFC is already one of his dreams come true. But for him to be here would be another dream coming true. It would be great. The first thing I do is actually call my dad and my mom. They’re so happy to see me win. He hasn’t done any (post-fight) coaching yet. I haven’t heard any bad things that I did today. But I’m sure he’s going to say something.”

Under the UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance program’s payout tiers, which appropriate the money generated by Venum’s multi-year sponsorship with the UFC, fighters are paid based on their total number of UFC bouts, as well as Zuffa-era WEC fights (January 2007 and later) and Zuffa-era Strikeforce bouts (April 2401 and later). Fighters with 1-3 bouts receive $4,000 per appearance; 4-5 bouts get $4,500; 6-10 bouts get $6,000; 11-15 bouts earn $11,000; 16-20 bouts pocket $16,000; and 21 bouts and more get $21,000. Additionally, champions earn $42,000 while title challengers get $32,000.

In addition to experience-based pay, UFC fighters will receive in perpetuity royalty payments amounting to 20-30 percent of any UFC merchandise sold that bears their likeness, according to officials.

UFC Fight Night 240 video: Jean Matsumoto taps Dan Argueta with 1 second left in round, moves to 15-0

Now 15-0 in MMA, Jean Matsumoto had to fend off many takedown attempts from Dan Argueta at UFC Fight Night 240 before winning by submission.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Jean Matsumoto[/autotag] had to fend off endless takedown attempts from [autotag]Dan Argueta[/autotag] at UFC Fight Night 240 before finally using one to his advantage to end the fight.

Highly touted bantamweight prospect Matsumoto (15-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) found himself on bottom multiple times from Argueta (9-3 MMA, 1-3 UFC) over the course of nearly two full rounds. He then applied a tight arm-in guillotine choke with just one second left and forced the tap at the 4:59 mark of Round 2 at the UFC Apex.

The guillotine has led Matsumoto to multiple previous wins in his career, and it happened again in the biggest spot of his career. Check out the replay of the submission below (via X):

Matsuomoto was nothing short of thrilled after getting his hand raised and extending his unbeaten record. At just 24, he hopes it’s one one of many notable results going forward in his career

“I’m here to prove to people it doesn’t matter where you come from,” Matsumoto told Michael Bisping through an interpreter during his post-fight interview. “I come from a community outside of Sao Paulo. I ended up here. I want people to believe it.”
