UFC Fight Night 240: Alexander Hernandez vs. Damon Jackson odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 240 odds between Alexander Hernandez and Damon Jackson, with MMA picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

In a 3-round featherweight bout on the main card, Alexander Hernandez and Damon Jackson meet Saturday at UFC Fight Night 240 (also known as UFC on ESPN+ 98 and UFC Vegas 90) at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the UFC Fight Night 240: Hernandez vs. Jackson odds, and make our expert picks and predictions.

The prelims begin at 3 p.m. ET, and can be viewed on ESPN+, while the main card starts at 6 p.m. ET, also on ESPN+.

Records: Hernandez (14-7-0) | Jackson (22-6-1)

Hernandez was on the losing end of a unanimous decision in a Fight Night in early October last time out. Prior to that, he defeated Jim Miller via unanimous decision in Feb. 2023. He has dropped 3 of the past 4 bouts, and 2 of those losses finished inside the distance, with a KO/TKO setback at UFC 282 to Billy Quarantillo, and a submission loss to Renato Moicano at UFC 271.

Jackson has suffered consecutive losses, falling to Quarantillo via UD last time out in early August, and he was knocked out in Round 2 against Dan Ige in Jan. 2023. His last victory came in 69 seconds in a KO/TKO win over Pat Sabatini in mid-Sept. 2022.

Hernandez holds a 1-inch reach advantage, and the favorite has a 4.63-to-3.02 significant strikes landed per minute advantage. Jackson is better on the ground, holding a 2.44-to-1.20 takedown average advantage and 34.69% takedown accuracy percentage. He also has a strong 1.58-to-0.13 submission average advantage.

UFC Fight Night 240: Hernandez vs. Jackson picks and predictions

Fight result (2-way line or moneyline)

Hernandez (-210), a.k.a. “The Great Ape”, is looking to get back on track after dropping 3 of the past 4 bouts. He has lost in every way imaginable, via decision, via KO/TKO and via submission in the 4-bout span since Feb. 2022. His only win came via unanimous decision against Miller in Feb. 2023.

As such, it’s hard to roll the dice and risk more than 2 times your potential return on a fighter like that. However, Jackson (+170) cannot be trusted, as he has dropped the past 2 bouts, and most of his wins have come against tomato cans.

The best play is to take HERNANDEZ ON POINTS (+350) for a chance to more than triple up. He went the distance in his past 2, and Jackson went the distance last time out. This is too good of a value to pass up.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 1.5 ROUNDS (-160) is a little on the pricey side, but given the recent history of these 2 fighters, it should be a slam-dunk play.

In addition, YES (+175): WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE? has a lot more risk than the above prop play, but it’s a decent value if you don’t want to declare a winner but still want some plus-money action in this main card event.

UFC Fight Night 240’s Alexander Hernandez: Damon Jackson’s reason for not liking me is ‘pretty homosexual’

When learning why his UFC Fight Night 240 opponent dislikes him, Alexander Hernandez injected homosexuality into his immediate response.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Alexander Hernandez[/autotag] doesn’t share in a dislike of his UFC Fight Night 240 opponent Damon Jackson, but finds the reasons for his aversion to be “pretty homosexual.”

Hernandez (14-7 MMA, 6-6 UFC) is days away from meeting Jackson (22-6-1 MMA, 5-4-1 UFC) in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 240 at the UFC Apex. During Wednesday’s media day, Hernandez learned that his opponent is holding a grudge against him.

“I don’t know (why), I’m pretty neutral about him myself,” Hernandez responded to a reporter.

After being told that Jackson held resentment due to the way Hernandez talked trash to Donald Cerrone in the days ahead of their 2019 bout, the 31-year-old featherweight injected sexuality into his immediate response.

“Oh, that’s pretty homosexual,” Hernandez said. “That was a long time ago. That’s like the softest sh*t of all time, dude. I promise ‘Cowboy’ doesn’t care about you. I was just drinking beers and eating hot dogs in San Antonio with ‘Cowboy’ when he made it to the Hall of Fame. So, yeah, that’s kind of silly to cry over another man’s woes.

“… That was, I don’t know, the first year I was here, maybe? Five, six years ago? That’s a wild thing to be holding on to.”

During an earlier media day interview, Jackson told reporters that he and Cerrone are close friends and the way the “arrogant” Hernandez treated him before that fight rubbed him the wrong way. He also said there was “something about his face” that he doesn’t like as well, which he has used as motivation for this fight.

Hernandez scoffed at the notion, but is ready to take care of business inside the cage.

“It seems a little bit like straw grasping,” Hernandez said. “I don’t know. I’m stoked to do him in, though. I’m really excited. …. I’m really excited to hurt Damon. So, he can be mad or be however he wants to be, but I’m going to be calculated.”

Hernandez will compete for the first time in 2024, looking to move past a unanimous decision loss to Bill Algeo in October, which was a fight he says he went into with a torn MCL. Since then, he has been focusing on recovery and was able to avoid surgery. He plans to not put himself in that sort of position again in the future.

“Sturdy, stable, feeling good,” Hernandez said, describing the status of his knee. “… I wouldn’t step back in again compromised to that extent, so I am good. I feel good.”

UFC Fight Night 229’s Bill Algeo: Alexander Hernandez tends to ‘fold, break a little bit’

Bill Algeo thinks Alexander Hernandez breaks when he faces adversity.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Bill Algeo[/autotag] thinks [autotag]Alexander Hernandez[/autotag] breaks when he faces adversity.

Algeo (17-7 MMA, 4-3 UFC) meets Hernandez (14-6 MMA, 6-5 UFC) in Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 229 main card opener at the UFC Apex. The event streams on ESPN+.

Hernandez has had some moments of brilliance in the octagon, but has recently lost four of his past seven fights. Algeo plans on pushing him to a breaking point – a weakness he sees in him as a fighter.

“Explosive, for sure he’s a good athlete,” Algeo told MMA Junkie and other reporters at Wednesday’s UFC Fight Night 229 media day. “Utilizes everything, he does everything well. It’s just he tends to fold, he tends to break a little bit, and I tend not to.”

Algeo is riding some momentum having won three of his past four, most recently a Fight of the Night submission over T.J. Brown in April. Algeo has been a part of numerous entertaining scraps in the octagon, and aims to keep that style.

“That’s what gets people paid,” Algeo said. “That’s what puts butts in seats. At the end of the day, that’s why I’m here. I don’t know if there was a Fight of the Night that was that short so, I’m happy with my performance. I thought I was in control. Yeah, he (Brown) landed some stuff, but I felt in control the whole time honestly. But yeah, it was a cool finish, cool celebration, everything.”

UFC Fight Night 229’s Alexander Hernandez seeks consistency after getting past ‘personal rut’

Alexander Hernandez is ready to finally make an impact at UFC Fight Night 229 after an up-and-down octagon run.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Alexander Hernandez[/autotag]’s career has not met the expectations he’s set out for himself during his octagon tenure, but he intends to change that at UFC Fight Night 229.

Hernandez (14-6 MMA, 6-5 UFC) has had some big moments, such as his shocking 42-second knockout of Beneil Dariush in his promotional debut. But since then he’s struggled to put it all together that same way. However, he thinks he’s dialed in for Saturday’s featherweight matchup with Bill Algeo (17-7 MMA, 4-3 UFC) at the UFC Apex. The card streams on ESPN+.

“I’ve always been my worst enemy,” Hernandez told MMA Junkie and other reporters at Wednesday’s UFC Fight Night 229 media day. “I kind of hit a hole. Just a personal rut. I had to work some things out. I was able to get to the root of it, hit the nail on the head.”

After dropping three of four fights from 2021-2022, Hernandez is coming off a major confidence-boosting performance. He defeated all-time UFC wins leader Jim Miller as a replacement on just 10 days’ notice at UFC Fight Night 219 in February, and now he wants to build off it.

“Winning is not just everything for our psyche and trajectory in the sport, but two checks,” Hernandez said. “That’s a big difference getting that second check. Definitely got me back on track. Got my mind right. I overcame a lot getting to that point, then having to take that short notice fight I had to prove some things to myself. It set me right.”

Hernandez, 31, thinks his UFC Fight Night 229 opponent Algeo is a “threat.” He’s taking the fight seriously, and Hernandez knows he needs this one if he’s going to start to carve out a sustainable place for himself in the division.

“I want the checks,” Hernandez said. “I’m open. I’ve never turned down a challenge. That’s where I’m sitting, like that top 20 pocket at ’45. So just give me some action around there. I want to get the volume up.”
