Bellator 300 gains: What all 32 fighters weighed on fight night

Find out how much weight all 32 fighters at Bellator 300 gained from the Friday morning official weigh-ins to Saturday night fights.

In California, fighters have their weights checked on the day of competition – not just when they have to hit their marks on the scale.

In 2017, the California State Athletic Commission put a plan in place to try to cut back on excessive weight cutting. Within those rules was a cap on how much a fighter could gain from the official weigh-ins to the fight.

If a fighter gained more than 10 percent back before the bout, the commission then could make a recommendation that he or she move to a higher weight class. If a fighter gained more than 15 percent, the commission had plans in place to potentially cancel fights.

At Bellator 300, which took place this past Saturday in San Diego, 14 of the 32 fighters on the card gained more than 10 percent of their weight back. Three of those 14 exceeded the 15 percent threshold. MMA Junkie obtained a list of fight-night weights Monday from the CSAC.

Check out the weight gains and percentages for all 32 fighters on the card at Pechanga Arena.

Grant Neal on longtime Niners pal Christian McCaffrey and dual-champ aspirations before Bellator 300

Grant Neal has things mapped out for the long-term future in his career. He’s also got Sunday figured out.

SAN DIEGO – [autotag]Grant Neal[/autotag] has things mapped out for the long-term future in his career. He’s also got Sunday figured out.

Neal’s plan is to beat Romero Cotton in their middleweight bout at Bellator 300 in San Diego on Saturday. Then Sunday, he can head north to watch his longtime friend Christian McCaffrey try to get to 5-0 this season with the San Francisco 49ers. McCaffrey’s early start to the 2023 season has his name being mentioned in MVP conversations.

Down the road, Neal has plans to be an MVP of his own by winning titles in two divisions. Saturday, he fights at 185 for the first time after he spent the first nine fights of his career at light heavyweight – where he plans to return one day to go after a belt.

Neal talked about that and more at Thursday’s Bellator 300 media day in San Diego.

Check out the full interview in the video above. Bellator 300 takes place Saturday at Pechanga Arena in San Diego. The main card, which features three title fights, airs on Showtime following prelims on MMA Junkie.

Grant Neal sees big opportunity at Bellator 290 in opponent Karl Albrektsson

Grant Neal thinks big things could be on the horizon for him Bellator’s light heavyweight division.

LOS ANGELES – [autotag]Grant Neal[/autotag] thinks big things could be on the horizon.

But in order to see the potential through, he has what is on paper his toughest test yet in Karl Albrektsson.

Neal (7-1 MMA, 6-1 BMMA) and Albrektsson (13-4 MMA, 2-2 BMMA) meet Saturday in a light heavyweight bout on the Bellator 290 prelims. It’s the kind of win Neal thinks can change his trajectory.

“I think it’s a great matchup,” Neal said at Thursday’s media day. “I’m just excited to show what I can do. My team is seeing everything and all the work that I put in, so I’m excited to show the world.

“Karl’s a great opponent. He’s a veteran – he’s been in the sport for a while. He’s fought some of the best in the world, beat some of the best, and I’m excited to test my skills against someone like him.”

After a 6-0 start to his career, Neal dropped a split call to Alex Polizzi in September 2021. He rebounded this past April, though, with a win over former Jon Jones training partner Christian Edwards.

Neal thinks the more impressive he can be in a win, the better.

“I envision this fight going down in a way that I can show the world what Grant Neal is capable of. That’s it,” Neal said. “Everyone in my gym, they know what I’m capable of doing. Now I’m just excited to go out there and show everybody.”

Check out Neal’s full media day interview above.

Bellator 266 salaries: Yoel Romero leads disclosed payouts despite promotional debut loss

Yoel Romero lost his Bellator debut – but was still compensated the highest amount of anyone on the card.

Bellator 266 is in the books and although [autotag]Phil Davis[/autotag] was the victorious half of the main event, he didn’t receive the highest disclosed payout according to the event’s commissioning body.

While Davis (23-6 MMA, 10-3 BMMA) pocketed a $100,000 flat salary for his three-round split decision, his opponent [autotag]Yoel Romero[/autotag] (13-6 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) earned $150,000 in defeat. The fight was Romero’s promotional debut with Bellator and his first bout since his UFC departure in 2020.
