Former Kentucky basketball recruit Jayden Quaintance lands at Arizona State

Former Kentucky recruit Jayden Quaintance commits to Arizona State.

Things have changed with Kentucky basketball in a short amount of time. New coach Mark Pope is busy assembling a team, mostly from the transfer portal. Meanwhile, recruits who committed under the previous coach are deciding where to play as well. Jayden Quaintance, has made his decision.

Quaintance, a five-star center and top ten overall recruit, was originally to be the crown jewel of John Calipari’s 2024 class with the Wildcats. Instead, after the coaching change, he’ll head to Arizona State.

Many will be surprised by the choice of the Sun Devils for Quaintance. Most considered Louisville to be the favorite after he also eliminated Arkansas from his list.

Arizona State is coached by Bobby Hurley, the former Duke Blue Devils point guard. He has been there since 2015, but hasn’t found much success so far. The addition of Quaintance should help.

As for Kentucky, fans have moved on, and Mark Pope is assembling a quality roster of transfers who can score and play defense. Quaintance may be gone, but Big Blue Nation is happy with what the new staff is building.

Kentucky commit, 5-star Boogie Fland, has asked to be released from his NLI

Boogie Fland has asked Kentucky to let him out of his NLI.

Boogie Fland is no longer committed to Kentucky, part of the fall-out from John Calipari leaving the Wildcats last week. One of the top recruits in the nation, Fland is the latest Kentucky recruit to re-open his commitment the past week.

A class of 2024 recruit, Fland is a five-star in the 247Sports Composite where he is the No. 18 player in the nation. A McDonald’s All-American, Fland is coming off a strong season for Archbishop Stepinac (White Plains, New York).

On Monday morning, Joe Tipton of On3 is reporting that Fland wants out of his NLI (National Letter of Intent).

Last week Jayden Quaintance asked out of his commitment from Kentucky. A five-star forward, Quaintance is the No. 14 player in the nation in the ESPN 300.

As for Fland, he has not confirmed the reports of his request on social media. But with Calipari’s departure last week to Arkansas, it is certainly understandable why Fland along with the likes of Quaintance are re-opening their college commitment.

Whoever lands Fland is going to get an impact player who is dynamic offensively.

At the McDonald’s All-American Game a week ago, Fland scored 17 points on 6-of-14 shooting. He was one of the most impressive players at the event.

Fland is a versatile scorer, with a strong outside game but the handle to drive and get to the rim.

Jayden Quaintance shows off versatility at McDonald’s All-American game

Kentucky recruit Jayden Quaintance had a good showing at the McDonald’s All-American game

The Kentucky Wildcats had three players that participated in the McDonald’s All-American game on Tuesday night. In a three-part series, we’ll look at all of their experiences at the game, and Jayden Quaintance is the second.

Quaintance is Kentucky’s top rated 2024 recruit, coming in inside the top ten for most services. The 6’9″, 200 lb center is ranked second has his position in his class.

Playing for the East squad, Quaintance showed his abilities on both ends of the floor during the game. He scored seven points on three-of-four shooting, and added seven rebounds.

Like Karter Knox, Quaintance had only good things to say about the time he spent practicing for, and playing in, the McDonald’s All-American game:

It’s a real fun experience getting to compete against the top guys and kind of test where I stack up against everybody. I feel really blessed to be at this event and hope I can do big things.

He also commented on his status as a two-year player for Kentucky due to his age and reclassification to the 2024 class:

The goal has always been to improve as much as possible so I’m just trying to develop as much as I can while I’m there. I’m going to get the experience for two years that a lot of players don’t get so it’s an exciting opportunity for sure.

Quaintance has all the tools to be a star for the Wildcats, and will get every opportunity. The frontcourt promises to be a talented one for Coach Cal, but this soon-to-be Freshman could wind up the best of them.

Three Kentucky recruits to be showcased at McDonald’s All-American game

Kentucky has three future players in the McDonald’s All-American game Tuesday night

The McDonald’s All-American game takes place on Tuesday night, featuring some of the best high school players in the country. The Kentucky Wildcats and John Calipari usually have a few players in the game, and this one will be no different.

On3’s Jamie Shaw was able to watch the players go through practices, and relayed some of what he saw.

Five-star recruit Jayden Quaintance is the first of three future Wildcats featured. The Cats top recruit has excelled in the practices, showing a knack for getting to rebounds, something Kentucky needed this past season.

Karter Knox, Kentucky’s most recent signee, has been good in the practices. He’s solid on both ends of the floor, and shoots the ball well. His ability to rebound will make coaches happy.

Guard Boogie Fland is the third future Wildcat in the game. His leadership has been praised, and he has an ability to get hot shooting the ball.

The McDonald’s All-American game will be played Tuesday night at 9:00 PM ET, and can be viewed on ESPN. Kentucky fans can get a look at some of the players they’ll see next season.

Kentucky lands a 5-star commitment from Jayden Quaintance

Jayden Quaintance commits to Kentucky.

Jayden Quaintance committed to Kentucky basketball on Tuesday morning, landing the Wildcats one of the top remaining uncommitted players in the nation.

A consensus five-star center at Word of Game Christian Academy (Raleigh, North Carolina), the class of 2024 standout held offers from Florida, Missouri and Ohio State among others.

As On3 notes, the 6-foot-9 center re-classified from the 2025 class.

Duke, who obtained a commitment from Cooper Flagg in late October, has the consensus top recruiting class in the nation.

Report: Ohio State basketball to host 5-star center on official visit

The Buckeyes have their big man target coming to campus soon #GoBucks

The [autotag]Ohio State basketball[/autotag] team has two commits in its  2024 recruiting class, but neither plays in the front court.

Head coach [autotag]Chris Holtmann[/autotag] is looking for a big man, and he has narrowed the search to North Carolina’s [autotag]Jayden Quaintance[/autotag]. The 6-foot, 9-inch, 230-pound center is a bit on the smaller side for the position, but that hasn’t stopped the Buckeyes from recruiting him for the spot.

The rankings don’t care much about his size either. He’s third among centers and 11th overall according to the 247Sports composite. Ohio State offered Quaintance in May. According to 24/7 High School Hoops, he plans to make an official visit on the weekend of Sept. 9.

Juni Mobley and Colin White are the two commits in the 2024 Ohio State class, and the Buckeyes would love to add a big man with Quaintance clearly ranking high on its list.

Four-star combo guard recruit Sir Mohammed commits to Notre Dame

Another addition to the 2024 recruiting class.

[autotag]Micah Shrewsberry[/autotag]’s team of the future is picking up steam. Two days before 2024 four-star combo guard recruit [autotag]Sir Mohammed[/autotag] was set to announce his college pick, 2024 four-star forward [autotag]Garrett Sundra[/autotag] committed to Notre Dame. Now, you can add Mohammed to the Irish’s 2024 recruiting class. Mohammed announced his commitment during the Elite 24 showcase in Atlanta:

Needless to say, Shrewsberry had to celebrate everything that had transpired of late:

Mohammed, the son of former NBA player Nazr Mohammed, ranks fourth among 2024 recruits from North Carolina on 247Sports. He visited Notre Dame on June 18 and also took official visits to Virginia Tech, Marquette and Stanford. With this announcement, three of North Carolina’s top four 2024 recruits have committed to ACC programs. Drake Powell has picked North Carolina, Isaiah Evans is headed for Duke, and Jayden Quaintance has not yet made his decision.

Mohammed, who joins Sundra and [autotag]Cole Certa[/autotag] in the Irish’s 2024 recruiting class, has put up solid numbers for Myers Park in Charlotte. In three seasons on the varsity squad, he has averaged 14.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.7 steals a game. That’s the type of production the Irish will take, and here’s hoping that translates at the college level.
