Former Kentucky basketball commit Boogie Fland heads to Arkansas Razorbacks

Former Kentucky commit Boogie Fland commits to the Arkansas Razorbacks.

McDonalds All-American, and four star combo guard Boogie Fland was committed to Kentucky originally. However, he opened his recruitment when former Wildcats coach John Calipari took the Arkansas job. Now he has decided to follow Coach Cal and has committed to the Razorbacks.

The 6-foot-2 guard from White Plains (NY) Archbishop Stepinac HS ranked number 26 overall by 247Sports.com and is the sixth ranked guard in the 2024 recruiting class.

Fland is the third player to follow Calipari to Fayetteville, joining transfer center Zvonmir Ivisic and fellow McDonald’s All American Karter Knox, a forward.

Fland averaged 14.1 points and 2.6 assists last spring and summer on the Nike EYBL circuit with the PSA Cardinals. He also won a gold medal with USA Basketball at the FIBA U17 World Championships in 2022.

The new Razorback also had 17 points and three assists in the McDonald’s All American Game earlier this month.

New Kentucky coach Mark Pope would love to have kept Fland, but they’ll continue to look to the transfer portal to fill the 2024-25 roster.

Alabama Basketball reaches out to 2024 5-star guard Boogie Fland

After reopening his recruitment, 2024 five-star guard Boogie Fland has heard from a number of programs including the Alabama Crimson Tide. Fland was originally committed to Kentucky.

One prospect that the Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball coaching staff has shown interest in multiple times is 2024 five-star guard Boogie Fland. The New York native was recruited by the Crimson Tide prior to his committing and signing with the Kentucky Wildcats. Since then, Fland has reopened his recruitment and heard from Alabama yet again.

Fland took an official visit to Tuscaloosa back in September. He had Alabama as a finalist in his recruitment.

Fland hails from Harlem, New York. He spent his high school career at Archbishop Stepinac High School. As a senior, Fland averaged 19.3 points per game, 6.6 rebounds per game, and 3.6 assists per game. In addition, Fland shot 45.3% from the floor.

He is one of the most coveted prospects still available in the 2024 recruiting class. Alabama is one of multiple programs that have shown interest in the McDonald’s All-American. Nate Oats and the rest of the Alabama coaching staff would certainly love to add Fland to the ’24 recruiting class. It will be interesting to see if Fland schedules an official visit to Alabama in the near future. There is clear interest between Fland and the Crimson Tide.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the latest regarding the Alabama men’s basketball program and its involvement in the transfer portal.

Guard Boogie Fland requests release from his Kentucky basketball NLI

Kentucky basketball recruit Boogie Fland asks for his NLI release.

What was once the number two recruiting class for 2024 lost another player on Monday. Point guard Boogie Fland has now asked to be released from his National Letter of Intent, making him the fourth of six 2024 recruits to do so.

Fland is ranked as the number 18 overall recruit, and the number two combo guard in the class. He’s a terrific shooter who has tons of upside in the other areas of the game.

The McDonald’s All-American was an important addition to a team that, even before the coaching change, was expected to lose at least two of their most important guards. Fland was set to take on a lot of minutes early one for the Wildcats.

New Kentucky coach Mark Pope has stayed in contact with Fland, so there’s at least a chance he could wind up in Lexington. Most likely, however, one of the many other options, with less upheaval will wind up landing him. Fans will have to wait and see how things play out.

Kentucky commit, 5-star Boogie Fland, has asked to be released from his NLI

Boogie Fland has asked Kentucky to let him out of his NLI.

Boogie Fland is no longer committed to Kentucky, part of the fall-out from John Calipari leaving the Wildcats last week. One of the top recruits in the nation, Fland is the latest Kentucky recruit to re-open his commitment the past week.

A class of 2024 recruit, Fland is a five-star in the 247Sports Composite where he is the No. 18 player in the nation. A McDonald’s All-American, Fland is coming off a strong season for Archbishop Stepinac (White Plains, New York).

On Monday morning, Joe Tipton of On3 is reporting that Fland wants out of his NLI (National Letter of Intent).

Last week Jayden Quaintance asked out of his commitment from Kentucky. A five-star forward, Quaintance is the No. 14 player in the nation in the ESPN 300.

As for Fland, he has not confirmed the reports of his request on social media. But with Calipari’s departure last week to Arkansas, it is certainly understandable why Fland along with the likes of Quaintance are re-opening their college commitment.

Whoever lands Fland is going to get an impact player who is dynamic offensively.

At the McDonald’s All-American Game a week ago, Fland scored 17 points on 6-of-14 shooting. He was one of the most impressive players at the event.

Fland is a versatile scorer, with a strong outside game but the handle to drive and get to the rim.

Kentucky recruit Boogie Fland has big day at the McDonald’s All-American game

Boogie Fland had an impressive day at this year’s All-American game

The Kentucky Wildcats had three players that participated in the McDonald’s All-American game on Tuesday night. In a three-part series, we’ll look at all of their experiences at the game, and the third of them is guard Boogie Fland.

Fland signed with Kentucky as another top 20 player, per 247sports. They have him ranked 18th overall, and as the number two combo guard in the 2024 class.

The McDonald’s All-American game gave Fland a chance to show off his game, which is exactly what he did. He shot 6-for-14 from the field, and 3-for-6 from three-point range for a total of 17 points. He also had the go-ahead bucket on a put-back late in the game. The Kentucky commit also had 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

Fland had this to say about the McDonald’s All-American game:

It’s a blessing. I dreamed of this as a kid and being from the Bronx you don’t really get this type of opportunity much. For me I had to grind for it and really earn it so to be here with all of these top players I feel like it’s a real blessing.

He also commented on Kentucky fans’ reactions to losing in the NCAA Tournament this year:

Kentucky fans they want to win. That’s what they are used to and I feel like the reaction was the right reaction. They came up short and they came up short and in March you are going to get everybody’s best shot. I don’t feel like there’s any added pressure. I feel like we chose Kentucky because we know what it comes with and we have to go in there and do what we do

I spoke with coach Cal and he knows that I know not to worry about pressure. We go there because of that. Pressure is privilege is how I look at it

Kentucky has a long history of great guards, and this past year featured some of the best yet. Fland will have some big shoes to fill, but he has the talent to do so.

Three Kentucky recruits to be showcased at McDonald’s All-American game

Kentucky has three future players in the McDonald’s All-American game Tuesday night

The McDonald’s All-American game takes place on Tuesday night, featuring some of the best high school players in the country. The Kentucky Wildcats and John Calipari usually have a few players in the game, and this one will be no different.

On3’s Jamie Shaw was able to watch the players go through practices, and relayed some of what he saw.

Five-star recruit Jayden Quaintance is the first of three future Wildcats featured. The Cats top recruit has excelled in the practices, showing a knack for getting to rebounds, something Kentucky needed this past season.

Karter Knox, Kentucky’s most recent signee, has been good in the practices. He’s solid on both ends of the floor, and shoots the ball well. His ability to rebound will make coaches happy.

Guard Boogie Fland is the third future Wildcat in the game. His leadership has been praised, and he has an ability to get hot shooting the ball.

The McDonald’s All-American game will be played Tuesday night at 9:00 PM ET, and can be viewed on ESPN. Kentucky fans can get a look at some of the players they’ll see next season.

Kentucky recruit Boogie Fland named New York High School Player of the Year

Kentucky recruit Boogie Fland received a huge honor this week

The Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team has a really good recruiting class set to debut in 2024. It’s ranked by most as the second best class in the country behind only Duke. Guard Boogie Fland is a big part of that group.

This week, Fland received a huge honor for his play this season. The Archbishop Stepinac Senior averaged 19 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals pergame while shooting 36% from three point range. As a result, he was named MaxPreps New York High School Player of the Year.

Fland is the 26th ranked recruit in the 2024 class by 247sports, and the second highest ranked combo guard. He’s a terrific shooter and a solid defender, which is something the team sorely needed this past year.

Next year’s Kentucky squad is still coming together, and the roster will evolve a number of times before the season begins. However, there will likely be a need for quality guards in the rotation, regardless of who returns.

Fland is certainly a quality guard, and, at least according to some, the best high school player in New York.

Braylan Ritvo’s Hoophall Classic performance leading to a recruitment boost

Braylan Ritvo is seeing his recruitment on the rise following a win against Don Bosco Prep.

Over the weekend, Braylan Ritvo stole the show at the Hoophall Classic. He did so with a five-star guard as an opponent and a four-star forward teammate on the floor.

Ritvo’s 27 points (along with four rebounds and a block) keyed Archbishop Stepinac (White Plains, New York) in their 74-67 win over No. 11 Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, New Jersey).

A three-star guard, Ritvo’s strong outing came on Sunday night on ESPN2. Don Bosco was led by five-star guard [autotag]Dylan Harper[/autotag], a Rutgers basketball commit and a five-star recruit, who scored 22 points in the loss.

Currently, Ritvo has offers from Lincoln (Missouri), N.J.I.T. and Quinnipiac.

He said that following his Sunday night performance, several new programs came into his recruitment including Bryant, Central Michigan, Colgate and Vermont. A total of 11 programs reached out following the game or re-started their contact with him.

“I do think I opened eyes with my performance because I showed what I was able to do against nationally ranked teams and players,” Ritvo told USA TODAY High School Sports.

“And how effective I can be in these competitive games and environments on both ends of the floor.”

Ritvo partnered with teammate Boogie Fland, a four-star guard in the 247Sports Composite, who had 17 points on 6-of-15 shooting in the upset win.

But it was Ritvo who performed well on both ends of the court who really stood out from the game.

“My recruitment is still fully open and I am in talks on planning visits right now to Cornell, Long Beach State and Lemoyne,” Ritvo said.

“I do not have a timeline in signing right now. But I am hoping to sign once I see a school, check out their campus and program and (I) feel like it will be a perfect fit for me.”

With the win, Archbishop Bishop Stepinac almost cracked the USA TODAY High School Sports Super 25. They are listed as a team ‘On the Rise.’

“Huge statement, competing at the highest level versus a top 10 (caliber) team,” Ritvo said.

“And coming out with the win is always great. We also got a chance to show that our roster is battle-tested and that we can compete with anyone in the country.”

5-star Boogie Fland is Kentucky-bound!

Boogie Fland made his college choice on Saturday.

One of the top prospects in the nation, Boogie Fland, committed to Kentucky on Friday afternoon.

The crowd at his high school went absolutely bonkers.

He joins four-star center Somto Cyril in the Kentucky 2024 recruiting class.
