Watch: Javon Wims brutal drop costs Bears touchdown

To the luck of Trubisky and Wims, the defender fell over and it appeared the Bears were an extra point attempt away from tying things early.

Trailing the Saints 7-0 in the first quarter of Sunday’s Wild Card game, the Bears caught a rare break against one of the better defenses in the league.

After a successful Matt Nagy challenge of a Javon Wims reception for 24 yards, following some trickeration, Mitch Trubisky went to the former Georgia wide receiver a second straight time.

To the luck of Trubisky and Wims, the defender fell over and it appeared the Bears were an extra point attempt away from tying things early.

Except for one slight problem.

Wims forgot the part where he needs to actually catch the ball.

It was tough enough to watch live but somehow more difficult to watch a second time.Ā  Here’s to hoping we’re not replaying this the next eight months or so and wondering, “what if?”

Watch: Bears’ trick play works to perfect until Javon Wims forgets to catch TD pass

The Chicago Bears saw a chance to tie the game go through Javon Wims’ hands

The trickeration was perfect. The Chicago Bears had the New Orleans Saints fooled and a TD was a catch away.

Mitchell Trubisky unleashed a perfect pass to a wide-open Javon Wims in the end in the first quarter.

For sure the NFC Wild-Card game would be tied after the PAT.

All Wims had to do was “Catch the Damn Ball.”

He didn’t and soon after the Bears were turning over the ball to New Orleans on downs.

And another Nickelodeon joke.

The second forgettable moment against New Orleans for Wims. In the first meeting, he lost his cool and wound up with a two-game suspension.

Looking back at the top Chicago Bears headlines of 2020

In many ways, this year has felt like 3 different seasons with the Bears. As we kick off 2021, let’s take a look back at theĀ top headlines.

In many ways, this year has felt like three different seasons with the Chicago Bears. It’s certainly been a rollercoaster of a ride — from an unlikely offseason to a 5-1 start to a six-game losing streak to a late playoff push in Week 17.

As we kick off 2021, let’s take a look back at theĀ top Bears headlines from 2020.

Studs and duds from Bears’ 33-27 victory against the Vikings

The Bears defeated the Vikings 33-27, keeping their hopes for a postseason berth alive. Here are the studs and duds from Sunday’s game.

Week 15 was a pseudo playoff game for both the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings. With both teams coming into the week at 6-7, the loser would see their playoff chances all but evaporate going forward.

When the dust settled, the Bears emerged victorious with a 33-27 win, climbing back to .500 and keeping their hopes for a postseason berth alive. Here are the studs and duds from Sunday’s game.

Bears inactives: Which players won’t play vs. Packers in Week 12?

Here’s a look at the players that won’t be suiting up for the Bears as they face the Packers on Sunday night.

The Chicago Bears released their list of inactives ahead of today’s game against the Green Bay Packers. The big news is that Chicago will be without defensive tackle Akiem Hicks, who is still recovering from a hamstring injury. Left tackle Charles Leno Jr. is active after being questionable heading into this game.

Here’s a look at the players that won’t be suiting up for the Bears:

Bears WR Javon Wims is back on the active roster following roster exemption

It sounds like Chicago is giving WR Javon Wims another chance as he’s officially back on their active roster following a roster exemption.

The Chicago Bears had a decision to make regarding wide receiver Javon Wims. The Bears were granted a roster exemption for Wims following the lifting of his two-game suspension after he threw punches at New Orleans Saints defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson.

It wouldn’t have been a surprise if the Bears decided to part ways with Wims following his actions. But it sounds like Chicago is giving Wims another chance as he’s officially back on their active roster following that roster exemption.

Wims was provoked by Gardner-Johnson, who has a reputation for running his mouth and getting into it with receivers. He was the one that got into a fight with Saints receiver Michael Thomas at practice.

And Gardner-Johnson’s reputation was something that certainly preceded him as receivers coach Mike Furrey warned Wims and the Bears’ receivers to steer clear of him prior to them taking the field when Wims went after Gardner-Johnson.

ā€œI called Javon that night when I got home after the game and I told Javon, I said the most disappointing thing that occurred from that event was the fact that I just sat there on the bench prior to that play and told every single one of you, ā€˜Do not get involved with 22. Do not retaliate. Donā€™t put your hands on him. Donā€™t head-butt him. Get back in the huddle.’ā€ Furrey said. ā€œSo the way I handled that, the biggest thing was the communication to learn a lesson ā€“ that when someoneā€™s trying to protect you from maybe ruining your career, you need to listen.

ā€œItā€™s unfortunate that that situation happened, but I think itā€™s even more unfortunate and disappointing that we addressed it right before it happened. That was the most disappointing part about it.ā€

The Bears were down to just Allen Robinson, Darnell Mooney, Anthony Miller and Riley Ridley at receiver with Wims’ serving his suspension.

Bears need to decide whether to keep or cut WR Javon Wims

With Javon Wims reinstated after a 2-game suspension, the Bears have a decision to make – add Wims to the active roster or part ways.

Chicago Bears receiver Javon Wims has missed the last two games due to a suspension following his actions against New Orleans Saints defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson.

Gardner-Johnson snatched Wims’ mouthpiece on the series prior to that, and apparently Wims stewed on the bench for 11 minutes beforeĀ punching Gardner-Johnson twice, in the helmet, in Chicago’s Week 8 loss.

Wims’ actions cost the Bears 15 yards and cost himself two games without pay. Now, the NFL has reinstated Wims after he missed games against the Tennessee Titans and Minnesota Vikings.

The Bears received a roster exemption from the NFL, which expires Thursday. Now, the Bears have a decision to make — add Wims to the active roster or part ways.

While Gardner-Johnson is certainly no saint, Wims can’t act like he did. It doesn’t help that Bears receivers coach Mike Furrey even warned Wims and the rest of Chicago’s receivers to avoid Gardner-Johnson.

ā€œI called Javon that night when I got home after the game and I told Javon, I said the most disappointing thing that occurred from that event was the fact that I just sat there on the bench prior to that play and told every single one of you, ā€˜Do not get involved with 22. Mike Furrey says he warned Bears WR Javon Wims about Chauncey Gardner-Johnson

The most memorable moment of Bears wide receiver Javon Wims’ career so far is also a moment he’d like to forget. His Week 8 sneak attack of New Orleans Saints defensive back Chauncey Gardner-Johnson was, in a word, ridiculous.

Sure, the last week or so has shed some light on the incident and the role Gardner-Johnson played in provoking Wims’ to snatch his mouthpiece and throw a series of ill-advised punches, but there’s still no excusing Wims for his actions that resulted in a costly penalty and a two-game suspension levied by the NFL.

And if there was anyone left who thought Wims was justified for what he did, they likely jumped ship after wide receivers coach Mike Furrey spoke with reporters on Monday.

Furrey said he warned Chicago’s pass-catchers about Gardner-Johnson and to avoid him at all costs.

“I called Javon that night when I got home after the game and I told Javon, I said the most disappointing thing that occurred from that event was the fact that I just sat there on the bench prior to that play and told every single one of you, ā€˜Do not get involved with 22. NFL upholds Bears WR Javon Wims’ 2-game suspension

In what will come as a surprise to no one, the NFL has upheld its 2-game suspension of Bears WR Javon Wims following his behavior on Sunday.

In what will come as a surprise to no one, the NFL has upheld its two-game suspension of Chicago Bears receiver Javon Wims following his behavior in last Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints.

Wims grabbed headlines — in all the wrong ways — when he threw two punches at Saints safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson’s helmet during the third quarter of last Sunday’s game. The Bears offense was penalized 15 yards and Wims was ejected from the game.

ā€œOne of Javonā€™s strengths is his character, who he is as a person,ā€ head coach Matt Nagy said after the game. ā€œHeā€™s since apologized, but thatā€™s not … You donā€™t have that. Thereā€™s no part of that in this game. ā€¦ Thatā€™s not how we roll here.ā€

While Gardner-Johnson is certainly no saint in this matter — he reportedly grabbed Wim’s mouthpiece and Wims said he spit on him — Wims was way out of line in behaving that way. Not only did it cost his team against the Saints, but now it’s going to cost them in the next two games.

The Bears released veteran receiver Ted Ginn Jr. on Wednesday, and they’re down to just Allen Robinson, Anthony Miller, Darnell Mooney and Riley Ridley at receiver.

That means Ridley, who’s been a healthy scratch in every game this season, is going to see some significant playing time over these next couple of weeks.

The good, the bad and the ugly from Bears’ Week 8 loss vs. Saints

The Bears have lost two straight games and half of their starting offensive line as they’ve fallen to 5-3 on the season.

The last couple of weeks haven’t gone well for the Chicago Bears. They’ve lost two straight games and half of their starting offensive line as they’ve fallen to 5-3 on the season. Their Week 8 loss to the New Orleans Saints was especially frustrating because the Bears could’ve and should’ve won the game, if not for continually shooting themselves in the foot.

Let’s take a look at the good, the bad and the ugly from the Bears’ Week 8 loss against the Saints.
