8 Takeaways from the Bears’ blowout loss to the Packers

From the worst opening game in 20 years to D.J. Moore’s lack of targets, here are our takeaways from the Bears’ loss to the Packers.

The 2023 season started with a thud for the Chicago Bears after an offseason filled with activity and hope. The Bears welcomed the Green Bay Packers into Soldier Field to begin Week 1 and were run out of the building when it was all said and done, losing 38-20.

It was one of the more anticipated opening weeks in recent memory given how the Bears brought in impact players to build around quarterback Justin Fields, while the Packers were turning the page to a new era with Jordan Love taking over as their signal caller. Many believed this would finally be the turning point in the Bears-Packers rivalry. Instead, it was much of the same that left fans feeling a different type of hopelessness.

The Bears were aggressive early but failed to convert a fourth down, resulting in a Packers touchdown to begin the game. Things were tight for much of the first half, but adjustments coming out of halftime made the difference. Green Bay changed up their plays to attack on offense while dialing up the pressure on Fields on defense. The Bears had no response, and the game was blown open.

It was a failure on almost every front, and while the coaching staff may want to bury the tape, the team needs to learn from this experience for the rest of the year. Here are our takeaways from the unacceptable loss to the Packers:

Twitter reacts to Bears getting embarrassed by Packers…again

Bears fans took to social media to berate the Bears after an embarrassing 38-20 loss to the Packers.

Time is apparently a flat circle for the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers, no matter what time of year or who is on the field when these teams meet. That was evident on Sunday during the Week 1 matchup between the two historic NFL rivals.

The Packers walked into Soldier Field and dismantled the Bears 38-20 in the first game of the Jordan Love era. Green Bay was firing on all cylinders and pulled away in the second half thanks to effective screen passes, timely turnovers, and big plays to squash any momentum.

Chicago, meanwhile, couldn’t get anything going on offense. Quarterback Justin Fields was struggling behind a poor offensive line, and offensive coordinator Luke Getsy had very little creativity behind his play calls, often resulting in third-and-long situations.

When it was all said and done, the Packers had their way with the Bears, and the fans were beside themselves after what they just witnessed. Many of them took to social media to berate the Bears for the poor product on the field, while others simply booed while at the stadium.

Here is how Bears X (formerly known as Twitter) reacted to the embarrassing loss:

Bears TE Robert Tonyan now questionable for Sunday’s game vs. Packers

The Bears added Tonyan to the injury report with a back issue and announced a few roster moves ahead of Sunday’s game.

The Chicago Bears were set to enter their Week 1 matchup against the Green Bay Packers with essentially a healthy roster, but now they could be without one of their tight ends. On Saturday, the Bears added Robert Tonyan to the injury report with a back issue, and he is now questionable to play. He practiced in full all week and had no injury designation up to this point.

Tonyan was signed as a free agent this offseason after spending six years with the Packers. He was set to face his former team for the first time, but that is now in jeopardy. His status for the game will be announced no later than 90 minutes prior to kickoff.

With Tonyan landing on the injury report, the Bears elevated tight end Stephen Carlson, as well as linebacker DeMarquis Gates, from the practice squad. They also released linebacker Dylan Cole, who was the lone player with an injury designation on Friday.

Carlson saw the most action of any Bears tight end this preseason but hasn’t played in a regular-season game since 2020 due to injuries. Gates, meanwhile, played in three games for the Bears last season, totaling one tackle.

5 Bold predictions for Bears vs. Packers

D.J. Moore snapping the 100-yard receiving drought & Tyrique Stevenson getting his first pick are just a few of our Bears bold predictions.

There’s rarely any shortage of drama, big plays, or juice when it comes to the Chicago Bears taking on the Green Bay Packers. Even over the past decade, when the historic rivalry has been one-sided, big moments and incredible plays (both good and bad) have been prevalent. But now as Green Bay turns the page to the Jordan Love era while Chicago continues developing Justin Fields, those moments will still remain and perhaps even favor the Bears for the first time in years.

The Bears and Packers are set to square off to open the 2023 NFL season on Sunday at Soldier Field, and it’s anyone’s guess as to what we’re going to see when the ball is finally kicked off. But we’re doing our best to predict the big moments and performances that will take place.

Our weekly bold predictions series returns for the start of the regular season, and we’re feeling optimistic about those moments and performances going the Bears way this weekend.

5 Packers players to watch vs. Bears in Week 1

All eyes will be on Jordan Love on Sunday but what about the other Packers? Here are five players we’ll be watching from Green Bay.

We’re just hours away from the start of the 2023 NFL season for the Chicago Bears, and they kick things off by renewing their historic rivalry with the Green Bay Packers. The Bears and Packers meet for the 207th time, but this matchup will look a bit different than ones in the past.

For the first time in over three decades, the Packers will open the season with someone other than Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers starting at quarterback as they enter a new era. All eyes will be on fourth-year quarterback Jordan Love as he officially takes over for Rodgers. But while Love is easily the most intriguing player on Green Bay, there are others to watch for as well.

Here are five Packers players we’ll be watching on Sunday.

7 takeaways from the Bears’ 2023 schedule

From finishing the season against Green Bay to having historic rest periods. here are our takeaways from the 2023 Bears schedule.

The dust has finally settled on the Chicago Bears 2023 schedule release and the upcoming season has finally come into focus.

The Bears are set to play in four prime-time games, including two on Thursday Night Football. They also have a late bye week for the second year in a row and bookend the season with the Green Bay Packers, facing them in Week 1 and Week 18.

Fans and analysts are already making predictions on how many games the Bears will win this year, but the schedule goes deeper than that. We can already make assumptions about how it might impact the team when the season begins based on the timing of certain matchups. Here are seven takeaways from the Bears’ schedule.

Predicting the Bears’ prime-time matchups in 2023

Which Bears games will be featured in prime time this season? We make our predictions ahead of the 2023 schedule release.

The annual NFL schedule extravaganza is finally upon us and soon, fans of every team will learn when and where they will play their opponents during the 2023 season. The NFL is set to announce the complete schedule for the 2023 season this Thursday at 7 p.m. CT. That announcement also includes the prime-time schedule, where specific matchups will be picked to be featured nationally on Thursday nights, Sunday nights, Monday nights, some Saturday nights, and special holidays.

For the Chicago Bears, national interest may appear to be lower than in previous years. They were the worst team in 2022, coming off a 3-14 record, and weren’t particularly competitive to close out the year. But with a young nucleus led by quarterback Justin Fields and a team that looks revamped following a busy spring, the Bears could be in more for more prime-time slots than we think. Chicago has had three or more games featured in prime time every season dating back to 2016 and there’s no reason to think that changes this year.

Here are our predictions for the Bears’ 2023 prime-time matchups.

Revisiting our bold predictions from the 2022 season

Warning: This article contains freezing cold Bears takes that could lead to frostbite.

When it comes to NFL predictions, there’s simply not enough accountability. Anyone can make a claim or prediction and boast if it comes true, or hide the evidence if it doesn’t. Not at Bears Wire though.

All season long, we’ve been providing bold predictions ahead of each Bears game, with various degrees of success. But prior to Week 1, we had a list of predictions that we saw playing out over the course of the entire season. Predictions such as offensive milestones or end-of-year awards that we believed had a legitimate shot of coming true.

Simply put, the results were not kind but we’re holding ourselves accountable. Here were our bold predictions heading into 2022 and the results of each one. But be warned as this article contains freezing cold takes that could lead to frostbite.

8 takeaways from the Bears’ loss to the Packers

From Luke Getsy’s development as an OC to Alex Leatherwood’s solid debut, here are our takeaways from Bears vs. Packers.

The Chicago Bears dropped yet another game to the Green Bay Packers and were eliminated from playoff contention for the second season in a row. The Bears fell 28-19 after allowing Aaron Rodgers and the Packers back into the game late, unable to secure a win after leading most of the game.

Bears quarterback Justin Fields looked impressive in his return from injury, but two late interceptions halted any hope of a victory. Rodgers and the Packers did enough late to seal the game and for the first time in 100 years, lead the NFL in all-time wins.

Like most of their games this season, the Bears were in it all the way until the end but questionable decision making by the coaching staff and a defense held together by duct tape couldn’t secure the win. Here are our takeaways from Sunday’s loss.

5 Packers players to watch vs. the Bears

Here are five Packers players we’ll be watching this week against the Bears.

The Chicago Bears renew their historic rivalry with the Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon at Soldier Field. The Bears (3-9) are in the midst of a five-game losing streak that has them as one of the worst teams in the league. The Packers (4-8) aren’t much better as both teams are essentially out of the playoff race with still more than a month to go.

Sunday’s game probably means more in the draft standings than any divisional standings, but it’s also a game that could swing history. The Bears have been the league’s most winningest team since its inception and now, they’re tied with the Packers with 786 wins a piece. A win for Green Bay means they take sole possession of first place in all-time victories.

If the Bears hope to win, they’ll need to keep (most of) these players in check. Here are five Packers players we’ll be watching in Week 13.
