LSU defeats Lady Vols for fifth conference loss

LSU defeats the Lady Vols at Food City Center.

No. 13 LSU (24-4, 11-3 SEC) defeated Tennessee (16-10, 9-5 SEC), 75-60, Sunday at Food City Center,

The Tigers led, 38-27, at halftime and had 15 offensive rebounds during the first half. Tennessee missed 13 of its last 14 shots to end the first half.

Rickea Jackson totaled 16 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two blocks for the Lady Vols. Tamari Key recorded 10 points, five rebounds and two blocks for Tennessee.

Tess Darby scored nine points, while Jasmine Powell added eight points, six rebounds and seven assists. Sara Puckett finished with seven points and 11 points for the Lady Vols.

LSU’s Hailey Van Lith led all scorers with 26 points. Angel Reese scored 11 points for LSU.

Tennessee (12-6, 5-1 SEC) defeated Vanderbilt (17-3, 4-2 SEC), 73-64, at Food City Center.

The contest, which was played during the SEC’s We Back Pat Week, was tied, 33-33, at halftime.

Rickea Jackson and Jasmine Powell each scored 16 points for the Lady Vols. Jackson, who did not play in the fourth quarter due to an apparent injury, also totaled 10 rebounds, four steals and three assists. Powell recorded 16 points, eight assists, five rebounds and two steals.

Jewel Spear had 12 points, four rebounds and two assists, while Tamari Key finished with 10 points and four rebounds.

The Commodores’ Iyana Moore led all scorers with 19 points. Jordyn Cambridge added 12 points and six rebounds, while former Lady Vol Justine Pissott scored nine points, making three 3-pointers.

Lady Vols earn comeback win over Kentucky

Tennessee overcomes 17-point deficit to defeat Kentucky.

Tennessee (9-5, 2-0 SEC) defeated Kentucky (8-8, 1-1 SEC), 87-69, Sunday at Food City Center.

Kentucky led by as many as 17 points in the first-half. The Wildcats also led, 49-39, at halftime.

Sunday’s win is the Lady Vols’ second consecutive SEC comeback victory.

Rickea Jackson totaled a game-high 27 points for Tennessee. She also recorded seven rebounds, three assists and one steal.

Jewel Spear scored 21 points, while Jasmine Powell posted nine points, nine assists and seven rebounds for the Lady Vols, who led, 66-60, at the end of the third quarter.

Tess Darby and Karoline Striplin finished with eight points each for Tennessee, while Tamari Key scored two points and had six blocks.

Ajae Petty posted a double-double for the Wildcats, recording 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Tennessee (8-5, 1-0 SEC) defeated Auburn (11-3, 0-1 SEC), 75-67, Thursday at Neville Arena in Auburn, Alabama.

The Tigers led, 40-32, at halftime.

Rickea Jackson totaled 24 points and 19 rebounds for the Lady Vols. She was one of three Tennessee players to score 10-plus points in the Southeastern Conference opener for both schools.

Jasmine Powell scored all 16 points in the second-half, while Kaiya Wynn finished with 10 points, six assists and five rebounds for Tennessee.

Jewel Spear and Karoline Striplin each scored seven points for the Lady Vols, while Tamari Key had four points, six rebounds and three blocks.

Thursday’s win is Tennessee’s fourth consecutive.
