Updated Ravens 7-round 2022 mock draft

We look at an updated seven-round 2022 mock draft for the Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens have a treasure trove of selections to use in the 2022 NFL draft, holding 10 picks overall, including nine in the first four rounds. This year’s 2022 class is a deep one, and Baltimore should be able to find plenty of solid contributors that can help them both next season and well into the future.

There are many different directions that the Ravens could go in during next month’s draft. Even though they’ve filled out some areas of need during free agency, they can still improve in many areas over the course of draft weekend.

Below, we put together an updated 2022 mock draft for Baltimore where they favor getting better in the trenches in the early rounds and filling out depth late.

Iowa’s Tyler Linderbaum listed in Bucky Brooks’ top-5 interior blockers

Iowa center Tyler Linderbaum was rated by NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks as one of the top-five interior offensive linemen in this NFL draft class.

NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks put together his latest top five 2022 NFL draft prospects by position. As expected, Iowa center [autotag]Tyler Linderbaum[/autotag] is highly regarded.

In fact, Brooks has Linderbaum as his second highest-rated interior blocker. According to Brooks, Texas A&M offensive lineman Kenyon Green is the top interior blocker in this class. After Linderbaum, Brooks ranked Boston College guard Zion Johnson No. 3, Georgia offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer No. 4 and Nebraska center Cam Jurgens No. 5.

Here’s what Brooks wrote about these interior blockers in this 2022 NFL draft class.

The class of interior blockers includes technicians with enough power and pop to play bully ball at the line of scrimmage. Green is an athletic phone-booth controller with the strength, power and explosiveness to blow defenders off the ball in the running game. The former Texas A&M standout excels in a pin-and-pull scheme, but he displays enough athleticism to thrive in zone-based or man-blocking systems, as well. Linderbaum is an athletic pivot with polished skills and a nasty finishing move. The Iowa product is a rare find as a scrappy player with a versatile game. – Brooks, NFL.com.

Linderbaum actually fell one spot in Brooks’ rankings of interior blockers. In Brooks’ first top five 2022 NFL draft prospects by position on Feb. 16, Linderbaum was the No. 1 interior blocker according to Brooks. Now, he’s swapped Green for Linderbaum at the top.

Either way, it’s clear that Linderbaum is considered one of the elite interior offensive line talents in this draft class. Linderbaum started all 35 games at center for Iowa over the past three seasons after making the transition from the defensive line to the offensive side of the football.

Ravens post-free agency 7-round mock draft

We look at a post-free agency seven-round mock draft for the Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens currently have 10 picks in the 2022 NFL draft, including nine in the first four rounds. They will have plenty of opportunities to add quality playmakers at multiple positions of need, as well as take some of the best players available on the board when they are on the clock.

During 2022 free agency, Baltimore has made a few splashes, including the signing of safety Marcus Williams. They’ve also brought in offensive tackle Morgan Moses and defensive lineman Michael Pierce to upgrade their roster in a few different areas, changing their draft priorities around in the process.

Below we look at a post-free agency seven-round mock draft for the Ravens.

Ravens draft talent at multiple needs in 3-round 2022 mock draft by CBS Sports

The Ravens drafted multiple talented players at positions of need in a three-round 2022 mock draft by CBS Sports

The Baltimore Ravens have come out of the gate at full speed during 2021 free agency, signing multiple players that fill needs and can play at a high level. However, that’s not the only avenue that Baltimore has to finding talented players, as they also hold 10 draft picks in the 2022 NFL draft.

When putting together a three-round 2022 mock draft, Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports had the Ravens taking talented players at positions of need with each of their four picks within the first two days. He starts off things for Baltimore by taking LSU cornerback Derek Stingley, who he says only falls to No. 14 due to not playing a lot of football over the past year.

“Stingley didn’t work out at the combine as he recovers from a foot injury, and he only played three games in ’21, but it’s hard to forget just how dominant he was in ’19 as a freshman, where he spent practices going up against Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, Terrace Marshall and Racey McMath. He’s a ball hawk, not to mention an asset in the return game, and he’ll only last this long because hasn’t played a lot of football in the last 12 months. He shouldn’t last this long, but if he does the Ravens won’t wait around.”

At pick No. 45, Wilson has the Ravens taking a developmental offensive tackle who has potential to start in a pinch in Central Michigan’s Bernhard Raimann. The Austrian’s story is a unique one, as he started off as a tight end but put on the necessary weight to become an offensive tackle, and a very good one at that.

In the third round, Wilson takes one offensive and one defensive player for Baltimore. At pick No. 76, he has the Ravens selecting balanced edge rusher Sam Williams out of Ole Miss, and with Baltimore’s final selection he takes versatile Georgia offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer.

As free agency continues, the Ravens’ needs will continue to shift around. Baltimore has shown a history of taking the best player available in certain circumstances, and with such a deep draft class they could employ that strategy once again.

Georgia’s Jamaree Salyer has versatility Cowboys look for on OL

The Cowboys covet versatility along the line and even if they go OL early, will need more reinforcements. Tyler Browning (@DiabeticTyler) investigates the worth of the Georgia product.

While the defense of the national champion Georgia Bulldogs gets the majority of the credit, the offense had several pro-caliber prospects as well. Jamaree Salyer had a stellar campaign paving the way in the run game and protecting his quarterback. A 2021 2nd-Team Walter Camp honoree, Salyer allowed only two hurries and didn’t allow a single sack all season according to Georgia’s team website.

Salyer has played up and down the line in his time in Athens, lining up at left tackle and right guard this past season, and spending time at right tackle and left guard previously. The only position he hasn’t tried in a game is center. If there is one thing the Cowboys tend to favor out of backup offensive lineman, it is positional flexibility. They don’t have the healthiest of offensive lines in the NFL so it’s not uncommon to see backups get significant playing time throughout the season. Clearly Dallas would have a place for Salyer in the lineup at some point if he were selected.

Where might that be and what does his ceiling look like?

How the 14 Georgia Bulldogs did at the 2022 NFL combine

The Dawgs dominated the NFL combine.

No school had more players at the 2022 NFL combine last week than the Georgia Bulldogs, who sent 14 guys from their national championship winning team to Indianapolis for the pre-draft workout.

Georgia dominated; players turned heads in almost every category. Big days from Jordan Davis, Devonte Wyatt, George Pickens, Lewis Cine, James Cook, Zamir White, Travon Walker, Quay Walker and even punter Jake Camarda showed how special the 2021-22 UGA football team really was.

Here are the results from all 14 Dawgs in attendance.

Georgia’s Jamaree Salyer impresses at NFL combine bench press

Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer surprisingly topped Ben Cleveland’s bench press effort in 2021.

Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer proved his versatility all season. Salyer played left tackle for the Bulldogs in 2021, but stepped into the guard position in the national championship game when Georgia struggled to get interior push in the run game.

Salyer helped his NFL draft stock with an impressive performance in the bench press event. The bench press is of 225 pounds. Salyer surprisingly topped Ben Cleveland’s 30 bench reps in 2021.

Here is a look at Jamaree Salyer’s 31 rep effort on the bench press (video per Athens Banner-Herald reporter Marc Weiszer):

At the moment, only Boston College’s Zion Johnson has recorded more bench reps (32) than Jamaree Salyer (31).

Weiszer additionally reported that Georgia offensive guard Justin Shaffer will be benching at his pro day and not at the 2022 NFL combine. Georgia football’s pro day will be held on March 16.

Pro day will be important for tight end John FitzPatrick, who was not invited to the NFL combine. Numerous NFL coaches, scouts, and general managers are anticipated to attend the event.

Unpacking Future Packers: No. 79 Jamaree Salyer

Georgia OL Jamaree Salyer is up next in Unpacking Future Packers, a countdown previewing the 2022 NFL draft for Packers Wire.

The Unpacking Future Packers Countdown is a countdown of 100 prospects that could be selected by the Green Bay Packers in the 2022 NFL Draft.

In the 2020 NFL draft, the Green Bay Packers selected Jon Runyan in the sixth round with the 192nd overall pick.

Runyan was a 25-game starter at offensive tackle for the Michigan Wolverines. The Packers kicked him inside to guard and he enjoyed a stellar sophomore season as the starting left guard for the Packers.

The Packers have had a lot of success drafting offensive lineman on day three and Runyan is just the latest example.

A player that Brian Gutekunst and his staff could target on day three in the 2022 NFL Draft is Jamaree Salyer. The Georgia offensive lineman checks in at No. 79 in the Unpacking Future Packers countdown.

Salyer came to Athens as a five-star recruit. As a freshman in 2018, Salyer played on the special teams and saw action as a backup. In 2019, Salyer saw more playing time as a backup and started at right tackle for Georgia’s bowl game.

Salyer became a full-time starter in 2020. He started at left tackle and made the move to guard for the bowl game. This past season Salyer started at left tackle and also saw snaps at both guard positions.

It’s all about versatility for Salyer. Salyer has experience playing all five positions along the offensive line. According to Pro Football Focus, Salyer saw at least 39 snaps at each position during his career at Georgia.

“Salyer definitely gets bonus consideration for being able to line up all over the line,” Jeff Risdon, an editor and analyst for multiple media outlets, said. “It’s not just aligning but also performing well without a lot of adjustment time. That’s a critical trait for a reserve offensive lineman.”

High football IQ. Rarely fooled by stunts and blitzes.

In pass protection, Salyer is able to anchor down against bull rushers. He’s able to keep his feet underneath him and has good core strength. He has physical hands and looks for work.

Salyer has a high football IQ and is rarely fooled by stunts and blitzers. According to Pro Football Focus, Salyer only gave up one sack this past season playing at left tackle in the SEC.

“His hands are pretty good, but what helps him in pass pro is how well he recovers from a small mistake,” Risdon said. “He has the upper body strength to knock a guy off a path even when he’s beaten. That’s not common.”

Salyer plays with a bit of a mean streak as a run blocker. He creates power in the run game with his powerful lower body.

“As a run blocker, I wish Salyer engaged more consistently in the open,” Risdon said. “He doesn’t really reach-block well. But if he can initiate the engagement, he’s moving the defender where he wants him to go. As a heads-up blocker he can be devastating.”

Fit with the Packers

Despite having key multiple injuries along the offensive line last year the Packers still had a formidable unit. What will that unit look like at the beginning of next season is a question mark.

When will Elgton Jenkins be back from his injury? Where will the versatile offensive lineman start once he returns?

Did Royce Newman show enough to be the starting right guard? Will Billy Turner be a cap casualty?

As it stands it right now David Bakhtiari will be the starting left tackle. Runyan will likely be the starting left guard until Jenkins returns. Josh Myers is penciled in as the starting center.

But what about the right side? With so much uncertainty it’s almost a guarantee that the Packers will spend at least one pick on an offensive lineman in the 2022 NFL Draft.

By drafting a player with Salyer’s versatility the Packers would be getting an offensive lineman that can play guard or tackle.

The ceiling for a player like Salyer is a starting right tackle. The floor is a guy that can be a team’s sixth offensive lineman that’s capable of playing all five positions. Somewhere in between all of that is a player that you could plug in at right guard for the next 10 years.

“In my eyes, Salyer is going to be a No. 6 offensive lineman for a team,” Risdon said. “He’s the guy who comes in for reps at any spot but LT in case of injury or poor play and gives you a solid week or two. He can start at guard for more power-based schemes but his lack of range and foot quickness. That’s worthy of a fifth or sixth-round pick, but again, zone-blocking teams won’t value him that highly.”
