Georgia’s Jamaree Salyer impresses at NFL combine bench press

Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer surprisingly topped Ben Cleveland’s bench press effort in 2021.

Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer proved his versatility all season. Salyer played left tackle for the Bulldogs in 2021, but stepped into the guard position in the national championship game when Georgia struggled to get interior push in the run game.

Salyer helped his NFL draft stock with an impressive performance in the bench press event. The bench press is of 225 pounds. Salyer surprisingly topped Ben Cleveland’s 30 bench reps in 2021.

Here is a look at Jamaree Salyer’s 31 rep effort on the bench press (video per Athens Banner-Herald reporter Marc Weiszer):

At the moment, only Boston College’s Zion Johnson has recorded more bench reps (32) than Jamaree Salyer (31).

Weiszer additionally reported that Georgia offensive guard Justin Shaffer will be benching at his pro day and not at the 2022 NFL combine. Georgia football’s pro day will be held on March 16.

Georgia HC Kirby Smart updates LT Jamaree Salyer’s injury status

Georgia’s Kirby Smart updated the status of starting left tackle Jamaree Salyer on Monday…

No. 1 Georgia has had its share of injury problems this season.

One of the more notable losses to the starting lineup is starting left tackle and preseason All-American Jamaree Salyer.

The senior was forced to miss last week’s matchup with Missouri due to a foot injury. Freshman Broderick Jones stepped in and played well, but the Bulldogs want their offensive line leader back on the field as soon as possible.

UGA head coach Kirby Smart spoke on Salyer’s injury in his weekly press conference on Monday.

“Jamaree’s (injury) is not extremely serious. It does not require surgery. He may be able to go this week. We will see how he is today. We’re hoping to get him back. He’s conditioning, running, doing everything. We’re just hoping we can get him back.”

The fact that Salyer is already back on the practice field for conditioning is a good sign.

UGA will head to Tennessee this week before returning to Athens on Nov. 20 to face Charleston Southern before ending the regular season in Atlanta versus Georgia Tech.

Georgia Bulldogs left tackle Jamaree Salyer has been ruled out for the Missouri game with a foot injury. Salyer is additionally expected to miss the Tennessee game on Nov. 13.

Salyer is considered to be UGA’s top 2022 NFL draft prospect along the offensive front. He brings experience, talent, and physicality to the Georgia offensive front.

In Salyer’s absence, offensive line coach Matt Luke is anticipated to turn to redshirt freshman Broderick Jones. Jones, a former five-star recruit, has played in all eight of UGA’s games this season. He filled in for Salyer late during the Auburn game.

It will be interesting to see how Georgia shuffles the offensive line. The Bulldogs have started the same group of Warren Ericson, Justin Shaffer, Sedrick Van Pran, and Warren McClendon along with Salyer since the Dawgs played UAB.

Kirby Smart and company frequently switch up the offensive line rotation when games get out of hand.

Ugasports.com and Dawgs247 reported the news on the Salyer’s foot injury first.

3 Georgia Bulldogs named AP preseason All-Americans

These Bulldogs may be playing on Sunday’s next fall.

The AP has released preseason All-Americans ahead of the 2021 college football season and three Georgia Bulldogs have made the list.

Senior punter Jake Camarda is the Dawgs’ only first-team selection after a 2020 season which garnered him SEC Special Teams Player of the Year and All-American honors.

The Norcross, Ga., native is a big reason for Georgia’s special teams prowess. The Bulldogs ranked first in the SEC with a 46.4 net average per punt in 2020.

Senior defensive tackle Jordan Davis was named to the second-team. Davis has already been named preseason All-America first-team by Phil Steele and preseason All-SEC first-team by the league’s coaches. At 6-foot-6, 340 pounds, Davis is a monster in the middle of stout Bulldogs front and had a strong showing in UGA’s last game of 2020, racking up three quarterback pressures from the nose tackle position versus Cincinnati in the Peach Bowl.

The final Bulldog named to the AP’s preseason All-Americans is versatile offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer, who was selected to the second-team. The senior has played almost every position on the Bulldogs’ front until settling in to left tackle in 2020. Salyer is also a preseason All-America first-team pick by Phil Steele.

With strong 2021 seasons, Camarda, Davis and Salyer could all be sitting high on NFL draft boards in the spring, which is just a testament to the roster that coach Kirby Smart and staff have put together in Athens.

The Bulldogs will get their first test on Sept. 4 versus No. 3 Clemson in Charlotte.

Georgia football OL named among top players in CFB

This Georgia lineman will be high on NFL draft boards next spring…

We are just 17 days away from Georgia’s season opening matchup versus Clemson on Sept. 4 in Charlotte.

Bleacher Report has released a list naming the best returning college football players for the 2021 season. First on the list is Georgia senior guard Jamaree Salyer.

David Kenyan wrote,

“Jamaree Salyer, a 5-star lineman in the 2018 class, has showed off fantastic versatility at Georgia. After logging backup snaps at four positions as a freshman, Salyer earned a couple of starts at right tackle in 2019. Last year, he opened nine of UGA’s 10 games at left tackle and shifted to left guard for the Peach Bowl against Cincinnati. And in 2021, he might be the starting center. Salyer has developed into an exceptionally reliable blocker whom Georgia can move around to fill whatever need is most pressing. There’s a strong chance he’ll land All-America recognition this fall.”

Salyer decided to return for his senior season when he could have been a NFL draft pick this spring. His return not only helps solidify Georgia’s front, it gives the Dawgs a huge leadership presence in the locker room.

This year Salyer earned the 2021 Dick Copas Leadership Award given by the UGA student-athlete advisory committee on top of earning preseason All-SEC honors, All-American honors from Phil Steele and second-team All-American honors via Walter Camp and Pro Football Focus.

Salyer’s versatility will land him on top of NFL draft boards next spring. The Atlanta native has played right tackle, center, left guard and most recently left tackle all at a high level of production.

Georgia has one on PFF’s list of ‘top-10 returning CFB o-linemen’

UGA football OL Jamaree Salyer checked in on Pro Football Focus’ list of the top returning college football linemen.

Georgia offensive lineman Jamaree Slayer checked in at No. 5 on Pro Football Focus’ list of the top-10 returning offensive linemen in college football for 2021.

That No. 5 national ranking puts him at third in the SEC as well.

From PFF:

Salyer had “breakout” written all over him in 2020 after shining on limited reps all across the line in previous seasons. The 2018 four-star — who ranked 10th nationally, according to 247Sports — excelled in his first full season in a starting role, posting an 81.2 PFF grade. Salyer earned grades above 77.0 as both a pass blocker and a run blocker, something only 10 Power Five tackles accomplished this past season.

Salyer, who started nine games at left tackle in 2020 before moving to guard for the Peach Bowl, was ranked as the highest-graded left tackle in the SEC in 2020, with a score of 88.9, per PFF.

He showed growth as the season progressed and closed out his year with an impressive hot streak, ranking No. 2 among all Power Five offensive linemen in pass-blocking grade over his last four games (90.6). Salyer is capable of playing anywhere on the line at an extremely high level. He proved that in 2018 and 2019 before cementing it in Georgia’s bowl game against Cincinnati when he played at left guard and didn’t give up a single pressure on over 40 pass-blocking snaps.

Salyer has logged 36 appearances in his college football career.

He came to UGA as a five-star offensive guard recruit out of Atlanta, Georgia, where he played high school ball at Pace Academy with Andrew Thomas for three seasons before coming to Georgia.

Georgia football Twitter reacts: OL Jamaree Salyer is returning

Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer is returning for another season at the University of Georgia

Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer is returning for another season at the University of Georgia. His return gives Georgia a big boost in offensive line experience. Salyer has logged 36 appearances in his college football career.

Salyer came to the University of Georgia as a five-star offensive guard recruit out of Atlanta, Georgia. Salyer started at left tackle for the first nine games of the 2020 season and then played left guard in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.

Salyer played high school football at Pace Academy with Andrew Thomas for three seasons before coming to Georgia. Salyer will hope to be as well regarded as his high school teammate when his career in Athens is over. Salyer is technically a junior, so he could comeback for another season.
