Jadyn Davis listed as a top ‘impact commit’ in 2024 recruiting class

#Michigan is getting a good one! #GoBlue

Michigan football has won some and it’s lost some in the 2024 recruiting class. But, the Wolverines did manage to secure the most important ‘win’ of their top prospects.

Once a five-star (though dropping in the recruiting rankings across the board), quarterback Jadyn Davis was the highest priority for the maize and blue this recruiting cycle. The Wolverines finally secured his commitment in March, thus bolstering the class with a solid QB commit a year after not taking one.

ESPN’s Tom VanHaaren took a broad look at 2024 recruiting across the board, and when it came to highlighting the top ‘impact commits’ in the class, Davis was among the five included. ($)

Michigan has won the Big Ten championship the past two seasons with College Football Playoff appearances as well. The expectations continue to rise in Ann Arbor, and the key for the Wolverines is finding a way to keep consistency through recruiting and the transfer portal while finding their specific type of recruit to fit the culture they’ve built.

Michigan hadn’t signed an ESPN 300 quarterback since J.J. McCarthy in the 2021 class, and because the quarterback position is so important to consistency on the field, it was imperative that the staff got a signal-caller who fits their system and can eventually take over for McCarthy. The staff believes that Davis can be that guy and give them a chance to stay in the championship conversations.

Davis is one of the top quarterbacks in the class, but he has also had a Pied Piper effect on the recruiting trail, helping recruit other top recruits to the class like his wide receiver teammate, Channing Goodwin as well as receiver I’Marion Stewart. It was a win-win for Michigan, which is hoping he is someone who makes an impact early on in his career.

While that’s good news for the maize and blue, Ohio State commit Justin Scott was also included. Scott told On3 that he intended to commit to Michigan football but changed his mind on his visit to Columbus.

Jadyn Davis makes the cut in the Elite 11 Finals

The #Michigan pledge is officially ELITE! #GoBlue

It was a good first day, a rocky second day and an elite third day for Michigan football five-star quarterback commit Jaydn Davis.

The Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day signal-caller was in danger of getting outdueled by some of his competition in Redondo Beach, California, for the Elite 11 Finals, but he surged late. On Day 1, he was the 11th-ranked quarterback, he didn’t make the top 11 on Day 2. He tied for first on Day 3, when the QBs faced live defenses.

While Alabama pledge Julian Sayin was crowned MVP, Davis’ surge allowed him to be named in the top group on Saturday.

It’s good for those in Ann Arbor that Davis made the cut, especially given that the Wolverines didn’t heavily pursue CJ Carr, Lloyd Carr’s grandson, who committed to Notre Dame, while Air Noland, the Ohio State commit, also made the cut.

The next step for Davis is to outduel some of those contemporaries when he gets to college.

247Sports ranks Jadyn Davis after two days at Elite 11 Finals

All eyes are on SoCal for this big-time competition. #GoBlue

As the top quarterbacks in the 2024 class descended upon Southern California this week, all eyes are on Redondo Beach as they compete in the Elite 11 Finals.

Michigan football quarterback commit Jadyn Davis is among those in attendance, and he’s had an up-and-down performance compared to some of his contemporaries, according to onlookers. Naturally, he’s in competition with Ohio State commitment Air Noland, as well as Notre Dame pledge CJ Carr, whom the Wolverines didn’t prioritize despite being the grandson of legendary former coach Lloyd Carr.

On Thursday, Davis was inaccurate, completing only 13 of 20 passes, putting him in the bottom metric among the top quarterbacks, but he completed passes such as this:

247Sports’ Andrew Ivins put together a dossier of the best of the best through two days at the event, and while there are several ahead of Davis in his estimation — Alabama commit Julian Sayin, Georgia commit Dylan Raiola, Air Noland, Penn State‘s Luke Kromenhoek and CJ Carr, Davis is still firmly in the Elite 11 if he continues his performance into Day 3.

6. Jadyn Davis (Michigan commit) – Davis was hot and cold on Thursday, but we still believe that he’s one of best in the group when it comes to layering the football to the short and intermediate parts of the field. It was also encouraging to see him get some zip on his deep shots.

Regardless of how any of the aforementioned quarterbacks perform and who ranks where, it’s not how they do in drills in a competition before their senior year that matters. It’s how they develop once they reach their college destination, as we’ve seen quarterbacks do well as recruits before they struggle at the next level — and vice versa.

Davis ranked No. 11 after the Day 1 rankings, but wasn’t in the top group in Day 2, per the official Elite 11 rankings.

ESPN breaks down Michigan QB commit Jadyn Davis scouting report before Elite 11

He has a big opportunity to showcase his skills this week. #GoBlue

It took a while before he received the call, but Michigan football five-star quarterback commit Jadyn Davis is in Los Angeles for the annual Elite 11 competition, where the best signal callers across the country compete to determine the best in their recruiting class.

Now that Davis has the opportunity to go up against Georgia commit Dylan Raiola, Ohio State‘s Air Noland, Oregon‘s Michael Van Buren, Notre Dame‘s CJ Carr and others, he’ll have a chance to demonstrate the Wolverines made the right choice.

The event kicks off this week, and here’s what ESPN’s Tom Luginbill said about the maize and blue pledge. ($)

Scouting report: Davis has a really strong presence in the pocket when the walls close in. He stays focused on what’s happening downfield and his eyes don’t come down. He can make a variety of throws in the offense, and the ball comes quickly out of his hand. He has good arm strength, and his release and decisiveness are two of his best traits.

Areas of development: At 6-1, 200 pounds, he possesses marginal size for the position. Davis needs to be on time and in rhythm so his view of the field does not get obstructed. There are times when Davis, despite his smooth release, has a slight windup as the ball comes down when he triggers to throw. He can correct this through consistent drill work.

How he fits at Michigan: Depending on the type of year J.J. McCarthy has this fall, Davis could find himself in the mix immediately if McCarthy were to leave early. If not, we would expect him to battle but redshirt as the No. 3 or 4 QB his freshman year. He would be competing with Alex Orji, a redshirt freshman, and redshirt sophomore Davis Warren. Indiana grad transfer Jack Tuttle is also in the fold.

In his high school film, Davis has a penchant for finding the open receiver while being accurate in the process. Considered a dual-threat, it will be interesting to see how Michigan utilizes him once he gets onto campus in 2024.

Before that, it will do him well to outduel some of the other top quarterbacks in the country to get used to playing high-level competition regularly. After all, once he arrives in Ann Arbor, he’ll be seeing many of the same QBs again, especially with Michigan facing Ohio State, Texas, Oklahoma and USC in the coming years.

Sooners 2024 commit Michael Hawkins named an Elite 11 finalist

Oklahoma QB commit Michael Hawkins earns invite to Elite 11 Finals.

Michael Hawkins keeps improving. Since landing his Oklahoma offer, Hawkins has been adamant about his journey to get better as a quarterback. He’s shown his improvement at various showcases. His skills have been displayed, and he’s risen among the cream of the crop, winning the accuracy award at the UA Dallas showcase earlier this year and QB MVP at Rivals Camp for a second straight year.

The wins for Oklahoma’s lone QB commit in 2024 continue to pile up. Hawkins officially earned an invite to the Elite 11 finals after performing at the Elite 11 Regional in Austin, Texas.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound field general is the latest quarterback to join the Elite 11’s showcase event in California. There are very few honors that high school quarterbacks value more than being invited to the Elite 11 Finals. The event is for the nation’s best passers, who get to participate in high-level competition and training from some of the world’s best.

Last year, Jackson Arnold was named Elite 11 MVP en route to becoming a consensus five-star QB across every recruiting service. Former Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray participated in it as well.

Hawkins will compete with names such as DJ Lagway (Florida), Air Noland (Ohio State), the nation’s number-one player and Georgia commit, Dylan Raiola, Julian Sayin of Alabama, and Jadyn Davis of Michigan.

The event will give more opportunities for Hawkins to showcase his live arm and the accuracy that many evaluators rave about. Hawkins also plans to camp in Oklahoma this summer to help improve his craft. It would be easy for Hawkins to continue connecting and building a rapport with his future offensive coordinator, Jeff Lebby.

In the meantime, Hawkins will continue working the phones and recruiting to help the Sooners staff build this 2024 class that will accompany him to Norman next year.

Elite 11 makes decision on Michigan football QB commit Jadyn Davis

He was snubbed after a regional event earlier this month.

Sometimes, a little patience is necessary — even when it feels dire.

The Elite 11 has been sending out invitations to the best of the best quarterbacks in the 2024 class. Despite appearing in a regional showcase affiliated with the annual signal-caller showdown, Michigan football quarterback commit Jadyn Davis was snubbed.

At least initially.

From the regional showcase, Ohio State QB commit Air Noland received an invite to compete in Los Angeles in June. That was surprising given Davis is the higher-ranked prospect and the commits from the rival schools went toe-to-toe. On Wednesday evening, the committee apparently changed course, extending an invitation to Michigan’s five-star.

Davis is listed by 247Sports as the No. 2 quarterback in the country, behind only Georgia commit Dylan Raiola. He’s ranked No. 26 overall per the 247Sports composite.

Michigan football’s current quarterback, J.J. McCarthy, earned an invite to the Elite 11 finals as a five-star quarterback and competed strongly, though not making it into the top group. All eyes were on the battle between McCarthy and Ohio State QB Kyle McCord.

Arms Race: Where the top quarterbacks are heading to play in college

Eight of the top 10 quarterbacks have already made their commitments.

As the summer approaches, top college football prospects will be in high demand. These players are expected to sign in the early signing period and have seven months before making the decision to sign their National Letter of Intent.

At the top of any recruiting class will be the quarterbacks. The top name last year was Arch Manning, and this year it is Dylan Raiola. Both of them come from NFL bloodlines, but unlike his father, Dylan doesn’t play the same position.

Raiola and Elijah Brown have yet to make their decisions as far as a pledge is concerned. Raiola decommitted from Ohio State in December of last year.

We check in on the top quarterbacks of the 2024 class where they have pledged.

Michigan now ranked No. 1 nationally after adding 2 more four-star recruits

Here are the two newest members of the Wolverines’ class of 2024.

A new team is on top of the rankings for the 2024 recruiting cycle. Last week the top spot fell from Georgia to Ohio State. However, yesterday another leader emerged when Michigan got commitments from two four-star prospects, including one of the best players in the state.

Here are the two newest additions to Michigan’s 2024 class.

Adams (Mich.) four-star TE Brady Prieskorn

The headliner here is the local Prieskorn (6-foot-6, 225 pounds), who ranks second overall in the state of Michigan, second among tight ends in his class and No. 56 nationally going by the composite rankings.

Prieskorn adds a potent receiving asset for the Wolverines offense. Last season he caught 19 passes, totaling 516 yards (27.2 yards per reception) and eight touchdowns. He also had offers from 24 other schools, including Michigan State, Penn State and Notre Dame.

Cheshire Academy (CT) four-star DL Jerod Smith

Smith (6-foot-3, 265 pounds) adds another piece to what’s become a factory for producing NFL-caliber defensive linemen at Michigan. According to the composite rankings, Smith is No. 30 at his position, fourth overall in Connecticut and No. 270 nationally in the class.

Twenty-seven programs made offers to Smith, including Notre Dame, Iowa, Kentucky, Texas and Wisconsin.

Michigan’s class of 2024 now has 14 hard commits, led by five-star quarterback Jadyn Davis. Prieskorn is the second-highest ranked recruit in a group that ranks first in the nation, five points ahead of Ohio State.

Michigan’s new 5-star QB Jadyn Davis: ‘It starts with players recruiting players’

Here’s what Davis told Rivals after his commitment about building a championship squad.

On Friday, the Michigan Wolverines got a commitment from Providence Day (NC) five-star quarterback Jadyn Davis. Ranked the No. 2 QB in the class of 2024 by 247Sports, Davis gives Michigan the last piece of the puzzle they’ve been missing in their rise to becoming an elite college football powerhouse.

Now that they have their centerpiece of the future, head coach Jim Harbaugh and his staff will have to build around him. However, Davis thinks players recruiting other players is an even more critical part of the process.

Here’s what Davis told Rivals about building a championship squad.

“Forget the coaches recruiting kids, it starts wieth players recruiting players. That’s what we’ve seen be the most successful. I want the best receivers in the country. I want the Jeremiah Smiths. I want the JoJo Traders. I want the Ryan Wingos… I also want guys on the defensive side of the ball because a good offense isn’t good without a great defense getting them the ball back so I’m trying to build a complete team. That’s what I’m going to try my hardest to do to bring Michigan a National Championship. That’s what these fans deserve. That’s all they’ve been waiting on.”

Recruiting Davis gave a big boost to Michigan’s class of 2024, which now ranks No. 3 in the nation.

However, they have yet to recruit any wide receivers in this cycle. The No. 1 ranked receiver in the class is Jeremiah Smith, who’s committed to Ohio State for now – however, he has been exploring his options of late.
