Top five tight ends signed to the Big Ten during the early signing period

Top five tight ends signed to the Big Ten on early signing day #B1G

The initial hype of the early signing period has died down, but there was a ton of talent to explore and so much so we are breaking it down by position. We have already dived into the top five quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers to sign with Big Ten teams and now we want to break down a position where Ohio State is looking to replace a huge starter in tight end.

The Big Ten snagged five of the top 20 tight end recruits in the class of 2024 and they also snagged the top two rated in the country. Unfortunately, not only do the Buckeyes not have anyone on this list, but The Team Up North has two players on this list.

It should be no surprise that Iowa makes an appearance and the flashier offenses from the West Coast are left off, but enough with the introduction, let’s dive into the top five tight ends in the class to sign with Big Ten teams according to 247Sports.

Meeting the next generation of Michigan football tight ends

The future remains blindingly bright at the position! #GoBlue

It’s no secret that Michigan’s offense flows through the tight end.

Luke Schoonmaker was a difference-maker last season, and this year Colston Loveland and AJ Barner are two of the top four receivers on the team. Harbaugh simply loves to use the position in any way he can.

In the run game, Michigan’s scheme relies on tight ends to seal off the edge or occasionally get outside and block a linebacker or defensive back. Meanwhile, the passing attack features a lot of routes that attack the middle of the field or leak the tight end out late as a checkdown. Needless to say, securing the future of that position is crucial to the success of the offense moving forward.

Fortunately, Michigan signed two top-tier tight ends this cycle. Both players are capable of blooming into impressive talents and should help solidify the position once Colston Loveland leaves for the NFL.

Let’s take a look at them.

An in-state product with a brother playing at Mississippi, Prieskorn is more likely to be able to play early than his 2024 counterpart Hogan Hansen, though still could take a year before he sees the field with regularity.

Scouting report

Via 247Sports’ Allen Trieu:

Has an all-around skill set. Physical, willing blocker who gives great effort and shows functional strength already despite still having a lot of room to grow into his body. Has played split out and can run routes and catch the ball like a wide receiver. Shows twitch and quickness off the line. Changes directions well for a big man and can create separation as a result. Tracks the ball and catches passes away from his body very naturally. Did not post gaudy high school numbers based on his team’s offensive system but has been a big-play threat for great program and does a lot of little things well. Has played more unattached and standing up than with his hand down but has the tools and and skills to really play in any role in a variety of sets.

Original commitment story

Michigan football secures elite in-state 2024 commitment

Michigan now ranked No. 1 nationally after adding 2 more four-star recruits

Here are the two newest members of the Wolverines’ class of 2024.

A new team is on top of the rankings for the 2024 recruiting cycle. Last week the top spot fell from Georgia to Ohio State. However, yesterday another leader emerged when Michigan got commitments from two four-star prospects, including one of the best players in the state.

Here are the two newest additions to Michigan’s 2024 class.

Adams (Mich.) four-star TE Brady Prieskorn

The headliner here is the local Prieskorn (6-foot-6, 225 pounds), who ranks second overall in the state of Michigan, second among tight ends in his class and No. 56 nationally going by the composite rankings.

Prieskorn adds a potent receiving asset for the Wolverines offense. Last season he caught 19 passes, totaling 516 yards (27.2 yards per reception) and eight touchdowns. He also had offers from 24 other schools, including Michigan State, Penn State and Notre Dame.

Cheshire Academy (CT) four-star DL Jerod Smith

Smith (6-foot-3, 265 pounds) adds another piece to what’s become a factory for producing NFL-caliber defensive linemen at Michigan. According to the composite rankings, Smith is No. 30 at his position, fourth overall in Connecticut and No. 270 nationally in the class.

Twenty-seven programs made offers to Smith, including Notre Dame, Iowa, Kentucky, Texas and Wisconsin.

Michigan’s class of 2024 now has 14 hard commits, led by five-star quarterback Jadyn Davis. Prieskorn is the second-highest ranked recruit in a group that ranks first in the nation, five points ahead of Ohio State.

Twitter reaction: Michigan football lands 4-star TE Brady Prieskorn

The future of the #Michigan offense is bright! #GoBlue

A now famous picture of four recruits standing on the field of The Big House in March is circulating once more due to what seemed unthinkable at the time.

Michigan football persuaded all four prospects to commit to be Wolverines.

The last domino fell when 2024 Rochester (Michigan) Adams four-star tight end Brady Prieskorn committed to the maize and blue on Tuesday afternoon. He joins five-star quarterback Jadyn Davis, offensive tackle Blake Frazier and running back Jordan Marshall, all of whom pledged in recent weeks.

Twitter was abuzz with the elite in-state tight end closing the loop. Here are the best reactions we could find to Prieskorn’s commitment.

HUGE! #GoBlue

The best players in Michigan go to Michigan. At least that’s what the Wolverines like to say, and they proved it, once again, on Tuesday.

The maize and blue long coveted Rochester Adams four-star tight end Brady Prieskorn, who is rated No. 56 overall according to the 247Sports composite. The second-best player in the state of Michigan and the second-best tight end in the country, Prieskorn has offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, MSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee and Texas A&M.

On Tuesday, he announced he will stay in state, committing to Michigan football. He’s the second tight end commit for the Wolverines this cycle; Hogan Hansen from Washington also already in the fold.

247Sports’ Allen Trieu has the lowdown in the scouting report:

Has an all-around skill set. Physical, willing blocker who gives great effort and shows functional strength already despite still having a lot of room to grow into his body. Has played split out and can run routes and catch the ball like a wide receiver. Shows twitch and quickness off the line. Changes directions well for a big man and can create separation as a result. Prieskorn is listed at 6 feet, 6 inches, 225 pounds. He’s the 13th commitment in the 2024 class for the Wolverines.

High-end 2024 Michigan football target commitment date, time revealed

All signs point to the maize and blue. #GoBlue

Michigan football is hoping a top prospect on its board from in-state decides he’ll wear a winged helmet by this time next year. It will not have to wait long to find out if that’s his intention.

Hailing from Rochester Adams, tight end Brady Prieskorn is a four-star prospect, rated No. 56 overall according to the 247Sports composite. He’s not only the second-best player in the state of Michigan, but the second-best tight end in the country. He has offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, MSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee and Texas A&M. He plans to announce his commitment at 3:15 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, April 25, he announced.

Michigan football has a commanding lead among the 247Sports crystal balls, with all three predictions indicating he’ll end up a Wolverine.

Per 247Sports’ Allen Trieu:

Has an all-around skill set. Physical, willing blocker who gives great effort and shows functional strength already despite still having a lot of room to grow into his body. Has played split out and can run routes and catch the ball like a wide receiver. Shows twitch and quickness off the line. Changes directions well for a big man and can create separation as a result. Has played more unattached and standing up than with his hand down but has the tools and and skills to really play in any role in a variety of sets.

Prieskorn is listed at 6-foot-6, 225-pounds. It’s unclear by what method he will publicly make his commitment.

Top 5 TE in 2024 includes Penn State in list of 8

Penn State among top schools considered by one of the top tight ends in 2024.

Penn State has had some great tight ends come through the program in recent years. [autotag]Jesse James[/autotag], [autotag]Mike Gesicki[/autotag] and [autotag]Pat Freiermuth[/autotag] all secured starting roles in the NFL. [autotag]Brenton Strange[/autotag] is also expected to get selected in the upcoming draft.

To replace the NFL talent that comes into the program, it’s important to recruit top prospects to fill those shoes.

Class of 2024 tight end, Brady Prieskorn, is a consensus top 10 player at his position in the country. On3 has him ranked 71st in his class and the number four tight end. Prieskorn is a four-star from Michigan who played on the varsity high school team his freshman year. He’s listed at 6’5″ and 220 pounds.

After receiving over 30 scholarship offers from programs across the country, he recently cut his list down to eight schools.

Penn State made the list along with Michigan, Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Miami.

On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has Michigan as the massive favorites to land Prieskorn with a 92% chance. Penn State is currently given a 1.7% chance to land him, although the machine hasn’t been updated since he trimmed his list to eight schools.

When discussing Penn State with On3’s Hayes Fawcett, Prieskorn said, “They have great coaches and I have a good connection with them. They have a good history with tight ends and developing them.”

We’ll see if the recruiting staff and coaches are able to get a Michigan prospect to leave the state. If they are, Prieskorn could potentially be one of the most impactful players in Penn State’s 2024 class.
