Panthers 2024 roster cuts tracker

Keep it here as we track each move the Panthers make in getting to their initial 53-man roster

Despite the difficult decisions that lie ahead, Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales isn’t shying away from the challenge of getting down to his very first 53-man roster.

“Yeah, it’s hard. And I’m excited for it,” he told reporters after last Wednesday’s practice. “When you respect and regard the whole unit and you’re kinda bringing everybody up at the same time—with the teaching, with the practices, the drill work and all those things as we improve everyone—it makes the decisions harder and harder.

“So I’m really excited about doing this with Dan [Morgan], with Brandt [Tilis], with the coaching staff. We’ve kinda had our touch-points throughout camp to evaluate where we’re at right now, and then we’ll have that culmination after we get through this last game.”

Well, they got through that game—besting the host Buffalo Bills in their final preseason outing of the summer on Saturday. So now, the “excitement” begins.

Keep it here, from now until 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, as we track each of the team’s moves in the path to their initial 53-man roster for the 2024 season.

Raiders bring back TE Jacob Hollister

Raiders have re-signed TE Jacob Hollister who spent part of last season with the team.

Wednesday the Raiders made what is tantamount to their corresponding move after the release of tight end OJ Howard. They brought back Jacob Hollister.

The veteran tight end spent last offseason and training camp with the Raiders before landing on injured reserve. He was later released and signed with the Vikings before returning to the Raiders midway through the season. He would return to Las Vegas midway through last season, appearing in three games.

Josh McDaniels knows Hollister from New England where Hollister’s career began in 2017 and he would spend two seasons with the Patriots. Clearly McDaniels liked what Hollister brings to the table more than what he saw from Howard over the past few months.

In six NFL seasons, Hollister has 83 career catches for 707 yards and seven touchdowns.

47 days till Patriots season opener: Every player to wear No. 47 for New England

Here’s a list of every Patriots player to wear the No. 47 jersey number

The New England Patriots have reached the Day 47 mark in the countdown to their regular season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 10.

So we’re continuing our ongoing series by listing every Patriots player that has ever worn the No. 47.

Fullback Jakob Johnson was the last player on the team to wear the number. The present-day NFL has nearly done away with the fullback position altogether, but Johnson found success as one of the few remaining throwbacks in the league.

He left the Patriots back in 2022 to reunite with former offensive coordinator and now Las Vegas Raiders coach, Josh McDaniels. There are at least 14 other players that precede Johnson on this list.

Here’s every Patriots player that has ever worn the No. 47 throughout franchise history (via Pro Football Reference):

Seahawks: These 6 practice squad players are now free agents

These six players were left off and will now become free agents.

Practice squad players who were on teams that were eliminated in the Wild Card round of the playoffs had their contracts expire today.

The Seattle Seahawks signed 10 of their practice squad guys to reserve/future contracts last week, but these six players were left off and will now become free agents.

Seahawks re-sign tight end Jacob Hollister to practice squad

With Will Dissly placed on the injured reserve, the Seattle Seahawks signed tight end Jacob Hollister to the practice squad for added depth.

The Seattle Seahawks added a familiar face on Wednesday, signing tight end Jacob Hollister to the practice squad. With tight end Will Dissly now placed on the injured reserve, Hollister will add much-needed depth to the roster.

Hollister originally signed with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2017 and spent two years with New England before he was traded to Seattle in April of 2019. He played two seasons with the Seahawks before bouncing around the league.

For Seattle, Hollister appeared in 28 games with eight starts. The tight end has spent time with the Bills, Jaguars, Raiders, and Vikings – most recently a second stint with Las Vegas.

Vikings sign TE James O’Shaughnessy to the practice squad

The Vikings had him in for a tryout a few weeks ago and liked what they saw

The Minnesota Vikings had tight end Jacob Hollister poached off of their practice squad over the weekend. The Raiders signed him after having him on the roster during training camp which was a smart move with Hollister not having to learn the playbook.

The Viking finally filled the spot on the practice squad by signing eighth-year veteran tight end James O’Shaughnessy.

The Viking brought him in from a tryout a few weeks back after the injury to Ben Ellefson and apparently liked what they saw.

Over his career, O’Shaughnessy has been a stalwart backup tight end for both the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars. A former fifth-round pick out of Illinois State, O’Shaughnessy has started 40 games out of 80 played and amassed 112 catches for 1,108 yards and three touchdowns.

His addition makes things easier until the return of Ellefson, as Nick Muse has already been elevated from the practice squad the maximum of three times.

Raiders sign TE Jacob Hollister off Vikings’ practice squad

The Vikings lost a player on their practice squad

The Minnesota Vikings will be looking to fill a spot on their practice squad after the Las Vegas Raiders signed tight end Jacob Hollister off of the Vikings practice squad.

The Vikings signed Hollister to their practice squad shortly after they placed tight end Ben Ellefson on injured reserve. With Ellefson having been designated to return, the need for Hollister is lessened, as they have Nick Muse also on the practice squad.

With the Vikings, Hollister appeared in two games and did not record a stat. He goes to a Raiders team that just placed both tight end Darren Waller and wide receiver Hunter Renfrow on injured reserve on Thursday afternoon. He spent training camp with the Raiders so he should be caught up to speed quickly.

Vikings elevate TE Jacob Hollister from practice squad for Week 8 vs Cardinals

The Vikings elevated Hollister for the second-consecutive game

The Minnesota Vikings have only two tight ends currently on the active roster and have been in that situation since placing tight end Ben Ellefson on injured reserve before the game against the Chicago Bears.

[listicle id=68211]

On Saturday, the Vikings elevated one of their two tight ends on the practice squad, choosing Jacob Hollister over Nick Muse.

Muse was elevated over Hollister for the game against the Bears but Hollister got the call against the Miami Dolphins. In that game, he didn’t record a stat but his veteran presence is likely the reason why they have chosen to go with him over Muse for a second-consecutive week.

In his seven-year career out of Wyoming, Hollister has 83 catches for 707 yards and seven touchdowns.

Vikings add TE Hollister to practice squad: release CB Nickerson

The Vikings make a change to the practice squad on Tuesday

The Minnesota Vikings have made a roster move by signing tight end Jacob Hollister to the practice squad.

The sixth-year tight end has played for three teams in his NFL career. In that time, he has played in 57 games with 12 starts. Known most for his time in Seattle when he ended up staring after a bunch of injuries, Hollister has seen success in the NFL. On 129 targets, Hollister has 83 receptions for 707 yards and seven touchdowns.

His style of play is a depth play as Hollister can play both a receiving and blocking role.

By adding him to the practice squad, the Viking had to make a corresponding move in releasing cornerback Parry Nickerson. The fifth-year cornerback has played in 25 games in the NFL with four of them as a Vikings in 2021. He has 25 tackles, one pass defended and one tackle for loss in his career.
