Rutgers football recruiting: Liam Thorpe breaks down his first Power Five offer

Liam Thorpe talks Rutgers football offer this week.

Liam Thorpe was offered by Rutgers football on Thursday night, giving the class of 2025 recruit his first offer from a Power Five program.

Thorpe, a wide receiver at The Hun School (Princeton, N.J.), checks in at 6-foot and 175-pounds. He also holds offers from Hawaii, UPenn and Princeton.

In 2022 as a sophomore, he had 19 catches for 592 receiving yards and six touchdowns. According to 247Sports, he is a three-star athlete and is ranked the No. 14 player in New Jersey.

The offer from Rutgers came on Thursday following a day on-campus. Thorpe details how the offer came about from head coach [autotag]Greg Schiano[/autotag] and the message from the staff during his unofficial visit.

“I visited the facility today and had a great conversation with the receivers coach talked a lot about player development and really liked what he had to say about the program trending upwards,” Thorpe told Rutgers Wire on Thursday night.

“Then I went into coach Schiano’s office and had a great conversation with him about the program and that’s when he gave me the offer.”

Following the offer, Thorpe came away with a favorable impression of the Big Ten program. Playing for a powerhouse program like The Hun, he has teammates and friends who are now a part of the Rutgers football team.

Hun products on the Rutgers football roster include offensive lineman [autotag]Jacob Allen[/autotag] and tight end [autotag]Logan Blake[/autotag].

“I have some good friends who play there and have great things to say about it,” Thorpe said. “And after getting to see it today I feel great about Rutgers and will definitely continue to build the relationship with the coaching staff.”

Thorpe is hopeful to make a game visit to Rutgers this fall.

He hopes to continue his relationship with Rutgers and wide receivers coach Dave Brock.

Having joined the program this offseason, Brock was most recently the wide receivers coach with the Atlanta Falcons.

“Definitely, having someone with experience at the next level is a huge factor in my decision as that’s the end goal,” Thorpe said. “And he’s definitely someone that could help take me there.”

Rutgers football offers Canadian offensive lineman Nathan Pahanich

Nathan Pahanich is offered by Rutgers football.

It has been a big April for Nathan Pahanich, who recently announced that he will be taking a prep school year and then received several big offers to kick start his recruitment.

He is a 6-foot-5, 280-pound offensive tackle from Canada.

On April 13, Pahanich was offered by Rutgers football and then received a Boston College offer just two days later. He also visited Pittsburgh football over the weekend.

Also on April 13, Pahanich announced that he will be attending the Hun School (Princeton, N.J.) and will reclassify to the class of 2025.

Rutgers football has done well with recruits from the Hun recently, landing four-star offensive lineman [autotag]Jacob Allen[/autotag] in 2022 and tight end Logan Blake this past year. Allen was an All-American and a four-star recruit.

Pahanich announced on social media last week his offers from Rutgers and Boston College. In His Rutgers announcement, Pahanich tagged head coach Greg Schiano:

In March, Pahanick visited Minnesota and Buffalo.

On Saturday, Rutgers football landed a commitment from Sam Pilof, a three-star linebacker from Wisconsin who is a top 10 player in the state.

It’s official! Four-star offensive lineman Chase Bisontis schedules Rutgers football official visit

Rutgers football will get an official visit from four-star offensive lineman Chase Bisontis in June.

It is official. Well, for Chase Bisontis at least. One of the premier recruits in the nation has scheduled his official visit to Rutgers football.

The top player in New Jersey for the class of 2023, Bisontis is a four-star offensive lineman and one of the most coveted offensive tackles in the nation. The Don Bosco Prep standout is currently at Texas A&M for the weekend and has a visit with Rutgers football planned in June.

RutgersWire has learned that Bisontis will take an official visit to Rutgers football on June 10. This comes after the Scarlet Knights made his top five programs that he released two weeks ago.

It is big news for Rutgers, who are now in play to keep the state’s top player in-state for consecutive years. Last season, Hun’s [autotag]Jacob Allen[/autotag] committed to Rutgers football in April.

Allen was a four-star offensive lineman who was selected to play in the All-American Bowl.

[lawrence-related id=16365]

As for Bisontis, the news of his official visit represents a bit of a turnaround from his mindset a few days ago. In an interview where he broke down his top five programs, Bisontis said an official to Rutgers wasn’t a sure thing:

“I’m not sure yet about that one. Because I’ve been there so many times. I’m not sure about doing [an] unofficial or an official. I’m not sure yet, I’m still in the process of thinking that one out.”

Bisontis is ranked the No. 52 player in the nation according to ESPN.com.

On3 prediction machine has Rutgers football as the favorite for Chase Bisontis

Rutgers football is the favorite to land four-star Chase Bisontis according to On3 Sports.

So you’re telling me there’s a chance…and for Rutgers football, it is better than a chance as it comes to Chase Bisontis.

The top player in New Jersey, the four-star Bisontis has a number of top offers from Power Five programs. He has a top eight that includes in-state Rutgers along with Ohio State, Texas A&M, Miami, Georgia, Texas, LSU and Michigan State.

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine has Rutgers at 28.2 percent to land Bisontis, the highest percentage of any program. LSU checks in at second with 24.7 percent; Texas A&M at 19.7 percent is in third. Ohio State is at 9.7 percent and in fourth place.

A variety of factors go into the prediction machine including the thoughts of On3’s recruiting insiders, historical trends and data and media sentiments. This is not to be confused with any predictions, crystal balls or the like.

[lawrence-related id=15963]

This is purely a prediction machine created by On3.

As for On3, they have Bisontis as the fifth-best offensive tackle in the nation and the No. 51 recruit overall. The class of 2023 offensive lineman is heading into his senior season at Don Bosco Prep.

[lawrence-related id=15981]

If the prediction holds up – and it is still certainly early in the process – it would be a second straight season where Rutgers landed not just the top offensive lineman in New Jersey but also the state’s top recruit. All-American offensive tackle [autotag]Jacob Allen[/autotag], a consensus four-star recruit, committed to Rutgers football last April.

Allen has a very strong chance to come in and contribute for Rutgers this fall.

What are Rutgers football recruits saying about the team’s rebuild under Greg Schiano?

Rutgers football recruits offer their thoughts on the team’s rebuilding process.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01fc3gzhz7qrm49z6q player_id=none image=https://rutgerswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

This has been a difficult season at times for Rutgers football (4-5, 1-5 Big Ten), not surprising given the level of the rebuild needed to get this team to a simply competitive level in the Big Ten.

And with the ups and downs of this season, Scarlet Knights fans are obviously disappointed and perhaps even frustrated at some of the losses, such as this past Saturday at home to Wisconsin. But for those who follow this most closely, the season certainly isn’t all doom and gloom.

And those who matter the most are the recruits who comprise the 2022 and 2023 class. They are watching things closely and not just the wins and the losses but the direction of the team and the attitude of the coaching staff.

Over the past month, ‘Rutgers Wire’ has reached out to a number of top recruits and commits for their impressions on the Scarlet Knights rebuilding effort in the second season under head coach Greg Schiano. Their answers are below and offer a far more reflective reaction than some of the hot takes on social media.

Four-star commit Jacob Allen on the Rutgers football season: ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’

Rutgers football commit Jacob Allen on where his recruitment stands and thoughts on the Rutgers football season.

Jacob Allen knows and understands the frustration of Rutgers football fans. He has a message for those who are down on the program’s recent tough spell: stay the course.

Allen, the No. 1 recruit in the state of New Jersey for the class of 2022, committed to Rutgers on the day of the annual ‘Spring Game’ in late May He says that he’s been in communication regularly with offensive line coach Andrew Aurich.

Rutgers has lost four straight games and is now 3-4 (0-4 Big Ten). The first three losses were against teams currently in the top 10 of the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll. Last week’s loss, 21-7 at Northwestern, was against a team that played in the Big Ten Championship Game a season ago.

“I haven’t been able to see the games live because I play at the same time as Rutgers. Usually, I talk with coach Aurich after the games. Rome wasn’t built in a day. I know people aren’t responding well to them right now, I’m still excited to get there,” Allen told ‘Rutgers Wire’ on Tuesday.

“I’m still 100 percent. I haven’t talked to another coach since I’ve committed.”

Allen has been regularly talking with the offensive line commits, a highly-rated group that will be counted on to help strengthen what is a struggling part of the Rutgers two-deep.

“I’ve been in most contact with the offensive line commits. I think they’re all here to say,” Allen said.

“I think all the line commits coming in, I think we’re all going to be expected to do something when we get there. I’m familiar with how the Rutgers culture is. I know I think they’re still attacking every day. I’m not worried.

“I think this bye week is going to help them a lot, to recuperate and get healthy. It’s tough the schedule they’ve had.”

Allen is the starting left tackle for Hun, who are currently undefeated, 5-0.

He said his goal for the rest of the season is to “Stay healthy and have fun.”

Four-Star Quarterback Marco Lainez on Rutgers Football: ‘An Offer…would Be Awesome’

Four-star quarterback Marco Lainez talks interest in Rutgers and how he improved this offseason.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01fc3gzhz7qrm49z6q player_id=none image=https://rutgerswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

Marco Lainez is the best quarterback in New Jersey in the class of 2023 with a national offer list to match.

A four-star quarterback out of the Hun School in Princeton, N.J., Lainez is ranked the tenth-best pro-style quarterback in the nation and the No. 3 player in the state for the 2023 class according to Rivals.com. And while he is considered a pocket passer, he said that he has spent the past offseason improving his speed and quickness as he’s gotten “down to sub 4.6 so at 225 pounds I’m going to be fine running if I have to.”

The No. 218 player in the Rivals 250 holds a very solid lost of offers from Iowa, Illinois, Michigan State, and Pittsburgh among others. There is no offer extended yet from head coach Greg Schiano but Lainez said he is hopeful that one is coming.

“An offer from my home state university would be awesome. I’ve followed them and coach Schiano since I was in Pop Warner,” Lainez told USA TODAY Sports Media Group’s ‘Rutgers Wire.’

“I do think I fit what they are doing. I’m listed as a pocket passer but my legs are a huge asset. I buy time with my legs when I have to and I’m accurate on the run.”

Two weeks ago, Lainez attended Rutgers season opener, a 61-14 win over Temple.

“I liked it a lot and loved the atmosphere,” Lainez said.

One of Lainez’s teammates at Hun is Jacob Allen. The offensive lineman is the top-ranked player in New Jersey according to Rivals.com and committed to Rutgers in May.

The Hun opens the season at home on September 18 against the Brunswick School (Greenwich, CT).

Michigan State football: pair of 2022 New Jersey targets schedule official visit

Owen Anderson and Jacob Allen of the Hun School in Princeton, New Jersey, have scheduled their official visits to Michigan State.

[jwplayer NIG71kHM]

Mel Tucker and his staff have made the state of New Jersey a priority in their recruiting efforts, ever since arriving to Michigan State.

The 2021 class featured two members of the garden state, and the Spartan staff is looking to add to that number in 2022.

3-star tight end Owen Anderson and 4-star offensive tackle Jacob Allen are currently teammates at the Hun School in Princeton, New Jersey, and both are former teammates of Michigan State 2021 signee Kevin Wigenton.

Anderson and Allen have scheduled to officially visit Michigan State together the weekend of June 18-20th.

Both players are at a key position of need for the Spartans and would be a welcomed addition to the 2022 recruiting class.

Michigan State Football makes top ten for Top-100 OT Jacob Allen

The Spartans have made the final cut for a top-100 player in the 2022 recruiting class.

[jwplayer LOzzVBvn]

Michigan State Football received a positive update on the recruitment of the top recruit in the state of New Jersey on Friday as 4-star offensive tackle Jacob Allen of the Hun School in Princeton, New Jersey put the Spartans in the top ten for his recruitment. He announced his top ten via Rivals.

Allen is the No. 93 player in the 2022 class and the No. 10 ranked offensive tackle.

As we said, Allen went to Hun School, home of MSU 2021 commit Kevin Wigenton. Allen cited Wigenton as a major factor in his interest in joining the Spartans:

“My good friend Kevin Wigenton is going there and they’ve offered a couple my teammates too,” Allen said. “I talk to coach Kap and coach Harris. I’m actually taking in a virtual visit with them this Wednesday. Coach Kap, like a lot of the other coaches I mentioned, is a great person and coach and I can tell just by talking to him and that it’s genuine. Coach Kap is one that I appreciate very much because of how he talks to me. He’s straight up with me which I appreciate.”

Notre Dame Football: Friday Night Sees Three New Offers in ’22 Class

The Irish staff was busy last night, offering three offensive lineman from the 2022 recruiting class.

It was a busy day for the Irish staff, offering three prospects in the 2022 class, each of them an offensive tackles. These offers are very much in line with the offensive lineman recruiting plan, go after mostly tackles and a few guards and centers when needed.

The first reported offer was from Kentucky’s Grant Bingham. The 6’6” and 302-pound tackle has added Michigan, Purdue and Georgia Tech offers this month as we could be seeing Bingham’s recruitment starting to blow up.

Bingham’s Johnson Central High likes to use his athleticism to their advantage, often pulling him as a lead blocker. When he gets to the second level, Bingham manhandles linebackers and defensive backs. The sophomore is a great looking prospect and the Irish getting out an offer early hopefully grabs Bingham’s attention.

[protected-iframe id=”430f002689c0bff9d04340a6dd28c74f-162776928-178902091″ info=”//www.hudl.com/embed/video/3/11840685/5d9229cc4ba80a0d501b739b” width=”640″ height=”360″ frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen=””]

Next up was Virginia’s Zach Rice as the Irish join numerous other high level offers for the lineman which include LSU, Ohio State, USC and Georgia. It’s safe to say the 6’6” and 282-pound Rice is already a national prospect.

Rice looks very lean and should be able to add good weight while retaining his athleticism as he gets older. He has great feet and when Rice adds on more weight, he will be a devastating blocker. Another great offer out by the Irish staff.

[protected-iframe id=”a497e1967997d73ab43d7adf262e1bc1-162776928-178902091″ info=”//www.hudl.com/embed/video/3/10184462/5dfaaad05ef7070828407da6″ width=”640″ height=”360″ frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen=””]

Last but not least was New Jersey’s Jacob Allen another national prospect. The Irish joined Oklahoma, Auburn, Florida and others for the 6’6” and 275-pound in the battle for the tackles commitment.

Allen is ranked by 247Sports as the 106th prospect in the country and the 10th tackle, the only one of the three currently ranked. At this point in time, he looks like the furthest along as a pass protector. Allen getting an early offer puts the Irish in a good position early on in his recruitment

[protected-iframe id=”c6a22bda78da7132f6aa012b77858bce-162776928-178902091″ info=”//www.hudl.com/embed/video/3/13221823/5db9cab206629d0b78463b55″ width=”640″ height=”360″ frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen=””]

The busy day for the Irish staff will hopefully pay off down the road. At the current moment, the 2022 Notre Dame recruiting class has no commitments. It’s still very early for that cycle but getting offers out to top level prospects at this point is a good sign.
