Rutgers football recruiting: Liam Thorpe breaks down his first Power Five offer

Liam Thorpe talks Rutgers football offer this week.

Liam Thorpe was offered by Rutgers football on Thursday night, giving the class of 2025 recruit his first offer from a Power Five program.

Thorpe, a wide receiver at The Hun School (Princeton, N.J.), checks in at 6-foot and 175-pounds. He also holds offers from Hawaii, UPenn and Princeton.

In 2022 as a sophomore, he had 19 catches for 592 receiving yards and six touchdowns. According to 247Sports, he is a three-star athlete and is ranked the No. 14 player in New Jersey.

The offer from Rutgers came on Thursday following a day on-campus. Thorpe details how the offer came about from head coach [autotag]Greg Schiano[/autotag] and the message from the staff during his unofficial visit.

“I visited the facility today and had a great conversation with the receivers coach talked a lot about player development and really liked what he had to say about the program trending upwards,” Thorpe told Rutgers Wire on Thursday night.

“Then I went into coach Schiano’s office and had a great conversation with him about the program and that’s when he gave me the offer.”

Following the offer, Thorpe came away with a favorable impression of the Big Ten program. Playing for a powerhouse program like The Hun, he has teammates and friends who are now a part of the Rutgers football team.

“I have some good friends who play there and have great things to say about it,” Thorpe said. “And after getting to see it today I feel great about Rutgers and will definitely continue to build the relationship with the coaching staff.”

Thorpe is hopeful to make a game visit to Rutgers this fall.

He hopes to continue his relationship with Rutgers and wide receivers coach Dave Brock.

Having joined the program this offseason, Brock was most recently the wide receivers coach with the Atlanta Falcons.

“Definitely, having someone with experience at the next level is a huge factor in my decision as that’s the end goal,” Thorpe said. “And he’s definitely someone that could help take me there.”
