Texas picks up crystal ball projection for four-star cornerback

Texas could be adding another blue-chip prospect. 247Sports has given a new 100% crystal ball prediction for cornerback Ishmael Ibraheem.

Already atop the Big 12 in the 2021 recruiting class, Texas could be adding another blue-chip prospect. 247Sports has given a new crystal ball prediction for Ishmael Ibraheem, having it 100% towards the Longhorns with a confidence level of eight out of 10.

Ibraheem is a top 200 recruit nationally on the 247Sports composite, ranking 171st overall. More importantly, he is considered a top player in the state of Texas, coming in at No. 28 overall. Judging him against other cornerbacks, he is only behind Latrell McCutchin in-state and No. 13 in the country.

Currently, there are no players projected to play in the secondary in the 2021 class. Ibraheem could start a domino effect with the Longhorns grabbing commits from other cornerbacks and possibly a safety.

If Ibraheem does commit, it would be another in-state pickup for Texas. The Longhorns currently have three of the top 10 in-state players, with the possibility of landing another one in Tommy Brockermeyer.

Success inside the state of Texas has been crucial to their recruiting under Tom Herman. Having the top class in the Big 12 for three consecutive seasons, the Longhorns are on their way to another successful recruiting season.

Michigan is in the thick of its pursuit of 2021 Dallas (TX) Kimball four-star cornerback Ishmael Ibraheem.

Rated by 247Sports as the No. 100 prospect overall, regardless of position, the No. 9 cornerback and 16th-best player in the state of Texas, given his high profile, it’s not surprising that the 6-foot-1, 175-pound defensive back is being heavily recruited by some of the nation’s top programs.

The Wolverines have been consistent at trying to lure him, despite not much attention the past several years given to the talent-rich state of Texas. However, the pursuit of Ibraheem has been paying off, as Michigan made his newly-released Top 10 on Wednesday evening.

Michigan linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary, the former Texas recruiting coordinator, is on the case for the Wolverines.

The maize and blue will have a bona fide battle, however, with Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Oklahoma, Auburn, Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor and TCU also on his radar.

Back in February, 247Sports Michigan recruiting guru Steve Lorenz told WolverinesWire the following about the maize and blue’s recruitment of Ibraheem:

ā€œBrian Jean-Mary, the new linebackers coach has deep connections to Texas and Florida ā€” heā€™s got some connections, the kid has some connections to the Ann Arbor, Detroit area. I think heā€™ll be up for a visit at some point.

ā€œIbraheem a name to keep an eye on at cornerback.ā€

As of yet, Michigan has just two commits in the 2021 class in offensive tackle Giovanni El-Hadi and quarterback J.J. McCarthy.

But, as we’ve seen, recruiting heats up in a hurry, and there are several prospects the Wolverines are in on.

On Wednesday, we welcomed 247Sports’ Steve Lorenz to the Locked On Wolverines podcast to discuss who are 10 recruits that Michigan fans should have their eye on, and while he gave us more than 10, as well as a thorough breakdown of where maize and blue targets fared in the newly-released 247Sports 2021 rankings that came out on Wednesday, he shared some excellent insight as to where things stand with several of the Wolverines’ top targets.

In no particular order, we start with a long-coveted in-state product.

Lorenz’s take:

“Projects as an offensive lineman. Could also play the defensive line at the next level.

“Again, I expect Michigan to recruit him as an offensive lineman, but I think he’s also a guy, depending on how they feel with other offensive linemen, he could also play on the defensive side.

“I think Michigan’s battling, really kind of the typical type of schools in this situation — Notre Dame, Ohio State. I think Penn State, a little bit, but more Notre Dame and Ohio State. A guy that Michigan quarterback commitment J.J. McCarthy has worked really hard on, and the staff obviously has worked very hard as well.”
