Titans tied for most O-linemen drafted in Rounds 1-3 since 2019

The Titans are tied for the most offensive line picks in the first three rounds of drafts since 2019.

Only two teams in the NFL have drafted as many offensive lineman in the first three rounds of drafts as the Tennessee Titans have since 2019.

Ian Hartitz of Fantasy Life crunched the numbers and they show the Titans have taken a total of five offensive lineman from Rounds 1 to 3 over the previous five drafts.

That’s tied for the most in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants.

That’s significant because, despite the high number, the Titans have sported one of the worst offensive lines in the league for three years running.

Tennessee gave up 47 sacks in 2021 (seventh-most), 49 in 2022 (tied fifth-most) and 64 in 2023 (tied fourth-most). The Titans also gave up 56 sacks in 2019, the third-most in the league.

The five linemen Tennessee has drafted in the first three rounds in that span are Nate Davis (2019), Isaiah Wilson (2020), Dillon Radunz (2021), Nicholas Petit-Frere (2022) and Peter Skoronski (2023). Of course, Davis and Wilson are no longer with the team.

Davis was OK over his four years in Nashville but dealt with injury issues and it’s safe to say he didn’t pan exactly how Tennessee had hoped, and Wilson was one of the worst draft picks in NFL history.

After two rocky years that included a torn ACL in 2022, Radunz finally started showing he may be a starting-caliber player in his third season following a strong finish.

NPF had an up-and-down rookie season in 2022 before losing his starting job in 2023 following a gambling suspension, and then he suffered a season-ending injury after struggling in his limited opportunities.

Skoronski had his issues during his rookie campaign but it was a solid season nonetheless. It’s important to note that the Northwestern product was learning a new position and had to overcome an appendectomy that sapped his weight and strength. He managed to finish the season strong, though.

Former general manager Jon Robinson was an absolute disaster in the draft after an incredible 2019 class, but his misses along the offensive line were easily the most glaring.

There is still time, however, for NPF and Radunz to prove Robinson right.

Current general manager Ran Carthon looks to have hit on his first offensive line pick in the first three rounds (Skoronski) and there’s a chance he’ll get another crack at it this year with the Titans set to rebuild their offensive line.

Former Titans OT Isaiah Wilson suspended for 3 games

Former Titans first-round pick and OT Isaiah Wilson has been suspended for the first three games of 2023.

The Tennessee Titans’ 2020 first-round pick, Isaiah Wilson, is infamously known for being arguably the biggest draft bust in NFL history, and at the very least, it’s more than fair to say he’s the biggest in Titans history.

Wilson only logged four snaps in his NFL career and was eventually traded to the Miami Dolphins at the conclusion of his rookie season for pennies on the dollar after running into multiple off-the-field issues, which included  multiple run-ins with the law.

You then combine those real-life issues with his lackadaisical approach to being a professional football player, and what you get is one of the most disastrous draft picks in league history.

Sadly, Wilson’s situation doesn’t appear to be getting better. The former first-round pick was somehow suspended for the first three games of the 2023 season despite the fact that he hasn’t been on a roster in almost two years following a brief stint on the New York Giants’ practice squad in 2021.

Specific details weren’t released as to how this happened, but it’s a safe bet that it’s probably another case of Wilson making bad decisions, which is ultimately why his NFL career was over before it ever even began.

In all seriousness, let’s hope Wilson gets the help he desperately needs so he can finally stop self-sabotaging himself more than he already has.

Former Georgia OL suspended three NFL games

Former standout Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Isaiah Wilson is hoping to gain traction in the NFL

Former standout Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Isaiah Wilson is an NFL free agent. Wilson is now facing a three-game suspension.

Wilson last played on the New York Giants’ practice squad in 2021. He was released in January 2022.

Wilson began his career with the Tennessee Titans, but off-the-field issues caused the Titans to trade Wilson to the Miami Dolphins. Later, Miami released Wilson.

Wilson still has a lot of talent. He was the No. 29 selection of the 2020 NFL draft, but Wilson must be more consistent if he wants to succeed in the NFL.

Wilson played for Georgia from 2017-2019.

Kristian Fulton is last man standing from Titans’ 2020 draft class

Kristian Fulton is the only member of the 2020 draft class left on the Titans’ initial 53-man roster.

The Tennessee Titans appear to have themselves something special in 2020 second-round pick and cornerback, Kristian Fulton, but the rest of the 2020 draft class isn’t doing so hot.

In fact, Fulton is the only member of that group who is on the team’s initial 53-man roster ahead of 2022. Following final cuts that saw both defensive back Chris Jackson and defensive linemen Larrell Murchison get cut on Tuesday, Fulton is now the last man standing from the 2020 draft class.

Of course, not all hope is lost for Jackson and Murchison sticking in Nashville, as both could end up on the practice squad after they clear waivers.

In that case, either or both could receive a promotion to the 53-man roster at some point during the season.

Jackson and Murchison were two of the final three picks from a class that also included offensive lineman Isaiah Wilson, running back Darrynton Evans and quarterback Cole McDonald.

McDonald failed to make the initial 53-man roster in 2020, and Wilson lasted just one season on the team before being traded to Miami following a disastrous tenure in Nashville.

Evans lasted longer than those two but was cut earlier this offseason after a pair of injury-plagued seasons in Tennessee.

Chalk it up to whatever you like, but outside of one player the Titans’ 2020 draft class was a major swing and a miss.

New York Giants cut former Georgia OL

The New York Giants have cut former standout Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Isaiah Wilson.

The New York Giants have cut former standout Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Isaiah Wilson. Wilson was on New York’s practice squad. Wilson, a former first-round pick, is finishing his second season in the NFL.

Wilson played alongside several former Georgia Bulldog teammates in New York including: Lorenzo Carter, Jake Fromm, Azeez Ojulari, Andrew Thomas, and Tae Crowder.

Isaiah Wilson began his career with the Tennessee Titans, but off-the-field issues caused the Titans to trade Wilson to the Miami Dolphins. Later, Miami released Wilson.

Isaiah Wilson still has a lot of talent. He was the No. 29 selection of the 2020 NFL draft, but Wilson must be more consistent if he wants to excel in the NFL.

The Giants signed Isaiah Wilson to their practice squad on Sept. 29. The NFL is allowing larger practice squads this season. New York has issues along their offensive line and a large support system for Wilson, so it made sense to bring in the former first-round pick.

Giants release Isaiah Wilson from practice squad, waive Chris Myarick

The New York Giants have terminated the practice squad contract of OL Isaiah Wilson and waived TE Chris Myarick, among other moves.

Isaiah Wilson’s tenure with the New York Giants has come to an end.

On Tuesday, the Giants officially announced that Wilson has been released from the practice squad in a series of transactions.

Even with all of the Giants’ offensive line struggles, Wilson was never able to earn a chance to start and show the team what he was capable of being.

Wilson was a former 2020 first rounder of the Tennessee Titans, but he was traded to the Miami Dolphins after he was seen as a malcontent who couldn’t follow rules. The same issues persisted in Miami and he was released in short order.

Following his release from the Giants, who knows if Wilson will get another shot in the NFL.

In a separate move, the Giants also waived tight end Chris Myarick, who had scored a touchdown against the Philadelphia Eagles earlier in the season.

Myarick could pop back up on the Giants’ practice squad if he goes unclaimed.

Meanwhile, the Giants also placed offensive tackle Matt Peart, who was already on injured reserve, on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

Finally, the Giants protected four practice squad players in Week 18. They were quarterback Brian Lewerke, linebacker Omari Cobb, defensive tackle David Moa and defensive back Natrell Jamerson.

Ex-Titans OL Isaiah Wilson released from Giants’ practice squad

Isaiah Wilson’s stint with the Giants has come to an end.

Former Tennessee Titans offensive lineman and 2020 first-round pick, Isaiah Wilson, is no longer with the New York Giants.

According to the league’s transactions wire, Wilson was let go from the team’s practice squad on Tuesday, ending his stint in the Big Apple.

The Giants were the third team Wilson has been with since being drafted, as he also spent time with the Miami Dolphins after the Titans traded him there this past offseason, although he was only with the Dolphins for a matter of days before being released.

New York signed Wilson to its practice squad back in September, just days after he posted to social media looking for a second chance after the debacles that were his stints in Tennessee and Miami.

Recently, Giants offensive line coach Rob Sale was asked about Wilson, and his response to the questions about the Georgia product made it clear things weren’t going well.

It remains to be seen if he’ll get another chance in the future, but the prospects of that happening certainly aren’t looking good.

Giants’ Rob Sale offers ominous take on Isaiah Wilson

New York Giants OL coach Rob Sale was asked about Isaiah Wilson on Thursday and his short answer was both ominous and revealing.

New York Giants offensive line coach Rob Sale spoke to the media Thursday morning and had some revealing comments about his beleaguered unit.

Offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson, a former first-round selection of the Tennessee Titans whose professional football career has been marred with suspensions, two arrests and multiple incidents of insubordination, was the subject of conversation as the COVID-19-ravaged Giants search for answers and depth on the offensive line.

Sale did not sound enthusiastic about Wilson contributing this year or, perhaps, at all.

Apparently, Wilson has not straightened out his act since the Giants took a flier on him back in late September.

Wilson, the 29th overall selection in the 2020 NFL draft out of Georgia, played only one game as a rookie last year for the Titans. He was traded to the Miami Dolphins earlier this year but was cut after showing up late for his physical and missing two workouts.

The Giants decided to sign Wilson to their practice squad in September after multiple players were lost for the season due to injury. He was a college teammate of Andrew Thomas — the Giants’ first-round pick last year and starting left tackle — at Georgia and the thought process was that a reunion with Thomas might reset Wilson’s career path. Apparently that hasn’t happened.

Giants’ Isaiah Wilson emerges as RT option following Matt Peart injury

New York Giants head coach Joe Judge says Isaiah Wilson is one of a number of options at right tackle following Matt Peart’s torn ACL.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbx61yex5whq8aq player_id=none image=https://giantswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

The New York Giants announced on Monday that offensive tackle Matt Peart suffered a torn ACL in Week 16 and has been lost for the season.

Peart, who was filling in for veteran Nate Solder (Reserve/COVID-19), took just 11 snaps against the Philadelphia Eagles before being injured. He was then replaced by Korey Cunningham.

“To see his season end the way it is with the ACL and how he was really plugging forward — one thing about Matt is he’s a really, really good team player and the guys really like him and respect the way he works and goes out there every day and prepares and challenges and competes. You hate seeing any player get hurt, you hate seeing guys who truly love the game and love their team being injured,” head coach Joe Judge told reporters.

“Obviously, he’s still developing in his position, there are a lot of things he can build on and grow on and can improve on, but his number one priority right now is just to get healthy.”

With Peart out and Solder still dealing with COVID-19, the Giants may have to adjust their offensive line again in Week 17. And although Cunningham is the favorite to start at right tackle if Solder can’t go, the team does have other options.

One mentioned by Judge is practice squad offensive lineman Isaiah Wilson, who was signed earlier this year and elevated as a COVID replacement last Sunday. However, Wilson was the only active player on the team who didn’t see any snaps.

“We’ll go through the week. I think he obviously is an option for us possibly at tackle along with some other players, but really he’s been plugging away in here and he’s made some progress. We’ve flexed him between guard and tackle through some drill and team work,” Judge said. “As we go through this week, we’ll look at a number of guys on our practice squad in terms of flexing them up as who can be that next tackle up for the game.”

Wilson, a first-round pick of the Tennessee Titans in the 2020 NFL draft, has had a plethora of issues over his first two seasons. He’s had multiple run-ins with law enforcement, was suspended by the Titans for violating team rules, traded to the Miami Dolphins and then released after just three days due to missing a pair of workouts.

None of those issues have resurfaced since Wilson joined the Giants. He’s been at all but one practice, appears to be working hard and losing weight, and has drawn rave reviews from his coaches and his teammates. And although he’s viewed more as a developmental project, Wilson may be thrust into live action out of sheer necessity.

Giants place Nate Solder, Danny Shelton on Reserve/COVID-19 list

The New York Giants have placed RT Nate Solder and NT Danny Shelton on Reserve/COVID-19 and activated six others, including Isaiah Wilson.

The New York Giants have placed veteran offensive tackle Nate Solder and nose tackle Danny Shelton on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. Neither will play on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.

In place of Solder, Matt Peart is expected to start at right tackle.

“Matt did some good things in the game (last week). He’s done some things he’s got to clean up as well, same with all of our other players. There are some positives that we’ve got to keep building on,” head coach Joe Judge told reporters on Wednesday. “He is making some strides. I’m pleased with the way he’s working and the attitude he comes out here with.”

Austin Johnson, who is currently listed as questionable with a foot injury, will likely see increased snaps in place of Shelton.

With two new players landing on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, the Giants activated four COVID-19 replacements: defensive backs Darqueze Dennard, defensive tackle David Moa, wide receiver David Sills and offensive lineman Isaiah Wilson.

Wilson was not expected to be an activation this year but with numbers dwindling, the team had no choice.

Finally, in some positive illness-related news, the Giants have activated linebacker Cam Brown and rookie cornerback Aaron Robinson. Brown will resume his starting role on special teams and with Adoree’ Jackson still ailing, Robinson will likely start in Week 16.
