The Chargers can start constructing their practice squad on Wednesday. Here is who we think will make it.
The Chargers trimmed their roster to 53 on Tuesday, but the work in building the roster is not yet done. More moves will come before the opening of the season, beginning with the construction of LA’s practice squad on Wednesday afternoon.
While the NFL has a limit of 16 players on the practice squad, Los Angeles has an exemption to add defensive lineman CJ Okoye as a 17th player through the International Player Pathway Program. For that reason, this projection includes 17 players.

All 12 players spent time on either the team’s practice squad or active roster in 2022.
The players will be added to the 90-man active roster when the 2023 offseason officially begins.
The Chargers activated Joey Bosa from injured reserve.

The Chargers made a few roster moves ahead of their Week 17 matchup with the Rams.
Los Angeles activated edge defender Joey Bosa from injured reserve. Bosa has been out since Week 3 with a groin injury that he had to have surgery on.
In correspondence, L.A. waived running back Sony Michel to make room for Bosa on the roster.
Additionally, the Chargers promoted RB Larry Rountree and defensive lineman David Moa from the practice squad.
Rountree has appeared in two games this season. In 2021, he rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown on 36 carries.
Moa, a former undrafted free agent out of Boise State, spent time with the Vikings and Falcons before landing in New York, where he played in four games and had three tackles in 2021.

Los Angeles signed defensive tackle Tyeler Davison to the active roster from the Browns’ practice squad. In addition, the team signed David Moa to the practice squad.
These acquisitions came after the season-ending injuries to Christian Covington and Otito Ogbonnia, who were placed on the injured reserve.
Davison spent the last three seasons with the Falcons, starting 38 of the 44 games. He had 121 tackles, 1.5 sacks, nine tackles for loss, and a fumble recovery in those appearances.
Moa, a former undrafted free agent out of Boise State, spent time with the Vikings and Falcons before landing in New York, where he played in four games and had three tackles in 2021.

Isaiah Wilson’s tenure with the New York Giants has come to an end.
On Tuesday, the Giants officially announced that Wilson has been released from the practice squad in a series of transactions.
Even with all of the Giants’ offensive line struggles, Wilson was never able to earn a chance to start and show the team what he was capable of being.
Wilson was a former 2020 first rounder of the Tennessee Titans, but he was traded to the Miami Dolphins after he was seen as a malcontent who couldn’t follow rules. The same issues persisted in Miami and he was released in short order.
Following his release from the Giants, who knows if Wilson will get another shot in the NFL.
In a separate move, the Giants also waived tight end Chris Myarick, who had scored a touchdown against the Philadelphia Eagles earlier in the season.
Myarick could pop back up on the Giants’ practice squad if he goes unclaimed.
Meanwhile, the Giants also placed offensive tackle Matt Peart, who was already on injured reserve, on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.
Finally, the Giants protected four practice squad players in Week 18. They were quarterback Brian Lewerke, linebacker Omari Cobb, defensive tackle David Moa and defensive back Natrell Jamerson.

For the second time this season, the New York Giants have released cornerback Sam Beal.
Beal, who had been re-signed to the practice squad as the result of the team’s COVID-19 issues, was released on Tuesday alongside fellow defensive back Darqueze Dennard.
Like Beal, Dennard was signed to help bolster the team’s depth amid a COVID-19 outbreak. He was elevated for a Week 16 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and drew the brief ire of his teammates for failing to down a punt at the goal line.

Head coach Joe Judge later appeared to absolve Dennard of fault, saying he went out of bounds and therefor couldn’t be the first to touch the ball.
“In Darqueze’s defense a little bit, it’s been a handful of years since he’s played gunner. He’s done a good job. Did a good job for us (Sunday),” Judge told reporters. “He got a little fogged up on the rules — you cannot be the first toucher if you go out of bounds. The second he ran out of bounds in that situation, I was actually walking down the sideline yelling in his ear ‘Don’t touch it, don’t touch it, don’t touch it,’ because that’s an illegal touch penalty and inside the five it becomes a touchback anyway right there.”
With some available space on the practice squad, the Giants re-signed tight end Jake Hausmann.
Finally, the team also announced their practice squad protections for Week 17. They include wide receiver/return man Pharoh Cooper, defensive back Natrell Jamerson, defensive tackle David Moa and tight end Deon Yelder.

The New York Giants have placed veteran offensive tackle Nate Solder and nose tackle Danny Shelton on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. Neither will play on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
In place of Solder, Matt Peart is expected to start at right tackle.
“Matt did some good things in the game (last week). He’s done some things he’s got to clean up as well, same with all of our other players. There are some positives that we’ve got to keep building on,” head coach Joe Judge told reporters on Wednesday. “He is making some strides. I’m pleased with the way he’s working and the attitude he comes out here with.”
Austin Johnson, who is currently listed as questionable with a foot injury, will likely see increased snaps in place of Shelton.
With two new players landing on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, the Giants activated four COVID-19 replacements: defensive backs Darqueze Dennard, defensive tackle David Moa, wide receiver David Sills and offensive lineman Isaiah Wilson.
Wilson was not expected to be an activation this year but with numbers dwindling, the team had no choice.
Finally, in some positive illness-related news, the Giants have activated linebacker Cam Brown and rookie cornerback Aaron Robinson. Brown will resume his starting role on special teams and with Adoree’ Jackson still ailing, Robinson will likely start in Week 16.

The New York Giants have announced their practice squad protections ahead of a Week 16 game with the Philadelphia Eagles and center Evan Boehm was among the four.
Signed by the Giants last week, the 28-year-old Boehm was originally a fourth-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in the 2016 NFL draft. He became a journeyman after that, spending time with the Los Angeles Rams (2018), Indianapolis Colts (2018), Miami Dolphins (2019, 2021), Buffalo Bills (2020), Jacksonville Jaguars (2020) and Detroit Lions (2021).
Boehm has appeared in 55 career games with 21 starts. He’s taken snaps at both left and right guard in addition to center.
This is Boehm’s first time being protected by the team.
In addition to Boehm, the Giants also protected wide receiver/return man Pharoh Cooper, wide receiver Alex Bachman and defensive lineman David Moa.
Moa has been a regular protection all year and even saw action in Week 15 as a COVID-19 replacement. Cooper, meanwhile, is the team’s starting return man and is a guaranteed elevation come Sunday.
Lastly, the Giants announced that they have terminated the practice squad contract of tight end Jake Hausmann.
