Broncos quarterbacks vacation with wives in Mexico

Broncos QBs Bo Nix, Jarrett Stidham, Zach Wilson and OL Mike McGlinchey are in Mexico with their wives following their 2024 season.

In what could be their final retreat as teammates, Denver Broncos quarterbacks Bo Nix, Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson are currently vacationing in Mexico.

Nix’s wife, Izzy, shared photos of the three QBs at a resort in Cabo on her Instagram story on Thursday. Stidham’s wife, Kennedy, also shared photos on Instagram, as did Wilson’s fiancé, Nicolette Dellanno.

Broncos right tackle Mike McGlinchey also appears in two of the photos shared on social media, and his wife, Brooke, posted from the resort on her Instagram story.

Stidham shared a story geotagged in Cabo San Lucas, a city in Baja California Sur, a Mexican peninsula state.

Stidham and Wilson are both scheduled to become unrestricted free agents in March and it’s unclear if the Broncos will re-sign them.

The three Denver QBs and their significant others got together for a dinner each week during the season and Nix and his wife have both shared how much they appreciate the friendships formed in the team’s QB room.

We’ll find out in the coming months and Stidham and Wilson will return with the Broncos ahead of the 2025 season.

Notre Dame cornerback Benjamin Morrison declares for 2025 NFL draft

Probably the least surprising news of the offseason.

If there’s one regret [autotag]Benjamin Morrison[/autotag] likely has about his career at Notre Dame, it’s that he finished it watching from the sidelines. An injury six games into the 2024 season caused him to miss the rest of the winningest season in Irish history.

Irish fans were devastated in part because they knew they had seen the last of Morrison playing for their team. Even before the season, mock 2025 NFL drafts had him being selected in the first round. That has not changed despite him missing the entire second half of this past season. In fact, Tankathon currently has him as the only Irish player to be taken on the first day.

So with the season over, it only was a matter of time before Morrison announced he would forgo his remaining college eligibility and declare for the NFL draft. He finally made that official with the following heartfelt post on social media:

https://www.instagram.com/benmorrison/p/DFLXGSDSlzT/?hl=en

Morrison finishes his Irish career with 84 tackles, five tackles for loss, nine interceptions and one touchdown over 31 games. We wish him the best in his next phase as a player.

Why NBA and NFL Reddit pages banned Twitter, Facebook and Instagram links, explained

Subreddits are banning Twitter, but not for the reason you think.

Welcome to FTW Explains: A guide to catching up on and better understanding stuff going on in the world. You may have heard about Reddit banning links from other social media sites and wondering what is going on. That’s OK because we’re here to help.

If you haven’t been on Reddit in a few days and popped over to your favorite sub to see what’s going on, you may have noticed a post at the top of the page declaring a ban on links from Twitter/X, Facebook, Instagram and Threads. Many other subreddits are currently voting on the issue.

There are a couple reasons why this is happening and we’re going to try and unpack it all.

Wait, so you can no longer post a link to any of those social media sites to Reddit?

No, Reddit itself is not banning links from Twitter or Meta products.

Individual communities hosted on Reddit — called subreddits — are either collectively deciding to ban the links, or are asking each subreddit’s moderators to declare a ban.

Which subreddits have banned Twitter and Meta products already?

In the sports world, the two big ones are r/NBA and r/NFL. Each community boasts at least 10 million subscribers (though many more sports fans can lurk without subscribing). Both r/NBA and r/NFL are ranked among the top one percent of subreddits based on size.

It’s also important to note these pages are not run by the leagues themselves. They are independent forums where fans can gather to discuss their favorite teams and sports. The NFL and NBA have no say here.

Ok, so why is this happening? Is it because of Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg? Is this a politics thing?

That would seem like the obvious answer, right? Well, it is and it isn’t.

Yes, backlash to Elon Musk has played a role in these bans after he made a controversial gesture resembling a Nazi salute at Donald Trump’s inauguration. But there is a technical issue at the root of why so many subs are banning Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Threads.

Simply put: Twitter and Meta product links make for a horrible user experience on Reddit because they force you to log in to view and browse content. That pretty much goes against everything Reddit communities stand for when it comes to openly sharing content from around the web.

While some communities were already discussing a ban because of the technical problems, the movement was joined by those who want to decrease traffic to Twitter following Musk’s recent behavior. The coalition proved more than enough to push the ban through on r/NBA and r/NFL.

Moderators for the NBA subreddit, in particular, were incredibly thorough in explaining their decision to ban those links:

Effective immediately, r/nba will be banning links to Twitter/X, as well as other social media platforms that require logins for their content to be browsed, including Facebook, Instagram and Threads.

In the end, there were three key elements in making this decision:

  • An increase in hate speech and discriminatory language, both on Twitter overall and coming directly from the owner of the platform.
  • A litany of functionality, usability and content quality issues that have existed for a while.
  • Considering the sentiment of our users.

Moderators at r/NFL echoed those sentiments:

Links to X/Twitter will not be allowed on r/NFL with immediate effect. This also includes screenshots.

There has been much discussion in recent days about the platform and actions of its owner. But it has been a point of contention on this subreddit for a long time and for other reasons.

These include the “karma race” to post news first, the inability to edit tweets meaning updates or tangential news must become its own thread, information not being preserved when content is deleted, users not being able to view content without an account and a variety of others.

For most of this subreddit’s history, these downsides have been understood by the userbase as being inconvenient but necessary. However, in light of recent events and the continuing path that platform is taking to make the user experience for Redditors less than ideal, combined with news sources also moving to other sites, X/Twitter links are no longer allowed on r/NFL.

As we do with all policies we will evaluate in the future.

This sounds a lot like censorship. What happened to free speech?

For starters, that’s not at all what free speech means.

To the larger point, these subreddits are not banning information or ideas shared on Twitter or Meta products. They are simply banning links to them.

Again, from r/NBA:

Ensuring that we were not limiting or censoring content was one of the primary points of discussion for us. We do not believe that this handicaps or censors content because we are not putting a restriction on specific content or subject matter. We believe that any notable story that takes place in the NBA environment will still find its way to our subreddit through other avenues that are still permitted.

Which other subreddits could ban Twitter, Instagram and Facebook next?

The list is extremely long. It seems like just about every major subreddit has a discussion thread debating whether or not to ban links from those sites.

In the sports world, some of the larger communities still deciding what to do include r/hockey, r/baseball, r/formula1 and r/collegebasketball. But individual team subreddits are also weighing bans.

So if you can’t post links from those sites, what are users going to do?

There is not a clear consensus yet. Some communities are still allowing posts of screenshots from banned sites, some aren’t. Some are encouraging users to flock to BlueSky, others aren’t so sure yet.

This thing is all pretty piecemeal because of the decentralized nature of subreddits.

Has there been a response from Meta or Twitter?

Nothing yet, but stay tuned. We’ll update this post as more information becomes available.

Commanders’ Sam Cosmi has message for teammates, fans

Sam Cosmi posted a heartfelt message to his teammates and Washington fans.

Sam Cosmi has been knocked down, but he is not pitying himself.

The former Texas Longhorn tackle was injured Saturday night in the second quarter of the Commanders’ 45-31 upset over the Lions in Detroit.

The right guard was rolled up under from behind, never saw it coming, and head coach Dan Quinn confirmed the injury to be season-ending for Cosmi. It is an ACL injury, which explains why Cosmi could not return to action in the second half against the Lions.

Cosmi played on teams that struggled in his first three seasons under Ron Rivera and did not produce a winning record. Last week, he expressed his appreciation for being part of this team.

Consequently, rather than sit around and feel sorry for himself (which would be understandable), Cosmi reached out to his fellow teammates and the fan base on Sunday, expressing his gratitude for this remarkable 2024 Washington Commanders season.

In an Instagram post, he expressed that this season has been a dream for him, that he loves seeing the DMV full of pride in the team, and thanked his brothers (teammates) for bonding together for something bigger than themselves. Understandably, Cosmi said he is both grateful and heartbroken. He then told his teammates to go win the Super Bowl.

Cosmi was drafted 51st overall in the 2021 NFL draft by the Commanders, played tackle and has blossomed when he was switched inside to guard.

Bo Nix’s wife thanks backup QBs for supporting Nix in 2024

“They were in our corner from start to finish and believed in Bo, when they certainly didn’t have to,” Izzy Nix said of Stidham and Wilson.

Following the Denver Broncos‘ playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, Izzy Nix — the wife of rookie quarterback Bo Nix — took to Instagram to thank the team’s backup quarterbacks for supporting Nix in 2024.

“Will never find the words for this qb room & what they mean to us,” Izzy wrote on her Instagram story. “They were in our corner from start to finish and believed in Bo, when they certainly didn’t have to.”

Izzy included a crying emoji and a blue heart emoji in the caption, and she tagged Stidham’s wife, Kennedy Stidham, and Wilson’s fiancé, Nicolette Dellanno, in the post.

Stidham and Wilson are both scheduled to become free agents in March, so it’s possible that Sunday marked their last game as Nix’s teammates.

Despite all competing for the starting QB job this summer, Nix, Stidham and Wilson were close friends this season and they got together for dinner every week with Izzy, Kennedy and Nicolette.

“Those two guys have helped me tremendously,” Nix said of Stidham and Wilson in December. “They’ve been great friends to me and great guys that have my back, that sort of thing off the field. Obviously we’ve been able to have relationships off the field with [our] wives and things like that, so we’re just a close group. I think that plays an important role as this season goes on and gets longer and longer.

“It’s good to get away from football and joke around and not make it so serious all the time. They do a good job of balancing the football life with the off-the-field life. [They are] always teaching me things, and then at the same time, just always keeping it lighthearted. [They are always] reminding me that there’s a lot more to this football thing, but while we’re doing it, we might as well be the best at it.”

Nix, 24, has three more years left on his rookie contract, plus a fifth-year option for the 2028 season. Stidham, 28, and Wilson, 25, will become unrestricted free agents on March 12.

Von Miller trolls Pat Surtain with Michael Jordan meme after playoff win

“Y’all time coming. It’s not now tho 🤷🏾‍♂️,” Von Miller told the Broncos on Instagram.

Before the Denver Broncos faced the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round of the NFL playoffs, cornerback Pat Surtain was asked about former teammate Von Miller.

Surtain gave praise to Miller before quickly noting that the current Broncos squad aimed to upset the Bills on Sunday.

“I know Von holds a special place in his heart for Broncos Country,” Surtain said. “Because he won his Super Bowls here, all his accolades come from Broncos Country. So, it’s going to be a huge game for him, I believe.

“But, I’ll tell him, I’ll tell him this now like — it’s our time to shine now. He had his time, earlier back in his days, but it’s our time now. But it’s going to be good catching up with him, seeing him, too.”

Buffalo ended up beating Denver 31-7 on Sunday and Miller quickly trolled Surtain with a Michael Jordan meme from “The Last Dance” documentary. Click the below post to play the video:

“’Y’all time coming. It’s not now tho’” 🤷🏾‍♂️ @patsurtainll,” Miller captioned his post in Instagram.

Miller spoke with Surtain and several other former teammates on the field after the game. Miller’s social media post teased his former teammate, but he’s made it clear in the past that he’s a big fan of Surtain. He got the last laugh on Sunday.

Von Miller shares perfect message before facing Broncos in NFL playoffs

For the first time since Von Miller won Super Bowl 50 MVP, the Broncos are back in the playoffs … and set to face Von Miller.

This is poetic.

The last time the Denver Broncos played in a playoff game, pass rusher Von Miller took home Super Bowl 50 Most Valuable Player honors after recording 2.5 sacks and forcing two fumbles in a 24-10 win over the Carolina Panthers.

The Broncos have now returned to the postseason for the first time since that 2015 season and their first opponent is … Von Miller.

Miller, 35, now plays for the Buffalo Bills, who are set to host the Broncos in the Wild Card round of the AFC playoffs on Sunday. Ahead of that matchup against his former team, Miller took to Instagram with a fitting message.

“Full Circle ⭕️🏆💭,” Miller captioned his post that included the iconic meme of Wesley Snipes crying in the 1991 film New Jack City.

Miller’s post also included two photos from Super Bowl 50.

https://www.instagram.com/p/DEenFJ6xWNx/?img_index=1&igsh=djNyZzdta2FpZ3lq

Miller played for the Broncos from 2011-2021 and he holds the franchise record of 110.5 sacks. He was traded to the Los Angeles Rams mid-way through the 2021 season and went on to win Super Bowl LVI.

Miller joined the Bills as a free agent in 2022 and he is now looking to win a third Super Bowl with his third team, but his former club stands in his way. Miller has continued to support Denver from a distance, and he has said in the past that if Buffalo does not win the Super Bowl, he wants the Broncos to win it.

Sunday will be an emotional game for the veteran pass rusher. Meanwhile, fans in Denver will be rooting for a Broncos win, but if they lose, Miller getting one step closer to another Super Bowl would be a consolation.

Bo Nix’s wife shares Broncos ‘QB Christmas card’ on Instagram

Merry Christmas from the Broncos’ quarterback room and their wives.

Izzy Nix, the wife of Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix, shared a “QB Christmas card” on her Instagram story this week.

Nix gets together with quarterbacks Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson each week with their wives (Izzy and Kennedy Stidham) and Wilson’s fiancé (Nicolette Dellanno). The QBs went viral earlier this season when Izzy shared a video of them answering questions “only girls should know” on her TikTok page.

Stidham’s wife, Kennedy, also shared a photo from their dinner this week.

The QBs and their significant others typically get together to watch Thursday Night Football each week, but this week’s QB dinner was moved up because of Christmas and the team’s road game on Saturday.

“Those guys get along so well,” Broncos offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi said of the QB room on Dec. 12. “I think a lot of Thursday nights — they were fussing at Bo Nix because they get together usually on Thursday nights and have dinner at someone’s house. They rotate it, and Bo has family in town so they’re not doing it tonight. So they were mad at him about that.

“I just think there’s a camaraderie with those guys. They get along, they’re unselfish, they root for each other. You spend so much time here. It helps to like each other. It can be miserable when you don’t get along and you have to spend that kind of time together. It’s a great group.”

Nix and Co. are one win away from clinching a spot in the NFL playoffs. Up next is a road game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 17.

Josh Reynolds shares message on Instagram after being cut by Broncos

Josh Reynolds shared a message on his Instagram story after being cut by the Broncos.

Story update: The Jacksonville Jaguars claimed Josh Reynolds off waivers on Wednesday. See our original post below.

The Denver Broncos waived veteran wide receiver Josh Reynolds on Tuesday ahead of his deadline to return from injured reserve.

After being let go by the team, Reynolds shared the following message on his Instagram story:

I just wanted to give thanks to the Broncos country for accepting me into a top notch organization and giving me a chance to ball. I wish nothing best for the team and my guys I grinded with all year 💪

Reynolds, 29, signed a two-year, $9 million contract with Denver this spring. The Broncos are now set to save $4.5 million in 2025 salary cap space after parting ways with the receiver.

Reynolds was placed on IR after he underwent finger surgery last month. Reynolds was later shot twice after leaving a nightclub in the Denver area on Oct. 18. Reynolds has since recovered from his wounds and three people have been arrested in connection to the shooting.

Had the team not activated or cut Reynolds by Wednesday, he would have remained on IR for the rest of the season. The Broncos have now given him an opportunity to sign elsewhere while the team moves forward with Courtland Sutton, Devaughn Vele, Marvin Mims, Lil’Jordan Humphrey and Troy Franklin at receiver.

Top NFL draft wide receiver prospect a big fan of Jayden Daniels?

Top NFL draft prospect a big fan of Jayden Daniels?

The Washington Commanders will be in the market for a wide receiver in the offseason to line up opposite Terry McLaurin. Washington likes its current group but needs another top receiver for rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

With plenty of salary cap space, the Commanders could look to sign a prominent free agent, such as Cincinnati’s Tee Higgins. However, general manager Adam Peters is a draft-first kind of guy, meaning he could wait until April’s NFL draft to find Daniels and McLaurin some help.

Tetairoa McMillan of Arizona is the draft’s top-ranked receiver. Unless Washington completely falls apart, he won’t be available for the Commanders. Neither will Travis Hunter, who is arguably the top prospect in the upcoming draft. Hunter is a star two-way player for Colorado.

One prospect who could be in Washington’s range is Missouri WR Luther Burden III.

The 20-year-old prospect recently announced he was entering the NFL draft and is a lock to go in the first round. How high? That will be sorted out after the season.

Burden could be excited about potentially coming to Washington. Why? He appears to be a big Daniels fan, commenting on one of Daniels’ recent Instagram posts.

Burden is an electric playmaker who can do it all.

Burden would be a perfect complement to McLaurin. Which of Washington’s current receivers will be back next year? Outside of McLaurin, only rookie Luke McCaffrey is under contract for 2025. Dyami Brown, Noah Brown, Olamide Zaccheaus and Jamison Crowder are all free agents after the season.

The Commanders’ receivers will look different in 2025. Could Burden be a part of that group?
