14 players listed on Eagles’ injury reports ahead of Super Bowl LIX

14 players were listed on the Philadelphia #Eagles’ injury report heading into their Super Bowl LIX matchup against the Kansas City #Chiefs.

The Philadelphia Eagles may be without a few key players when they square off against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

Philadelphia listed 14 players on its injury reports this week, though many of the biggest stars who were held out of practice were not dealing with any condition that would have affected their ability to run drills.

Instead, players like running back Saquon Barkley, wide receiver A.J. Brown, and tight end Dallas Goedert were simply given the week off to rest.

However, key starters like wideout DeVonta Smith, offensive lineman Landon Dickerson, and Cam Jeurgens were all non-participants in the Eagles’ practice sessions.

Check out Philadelphia’s full injury report below;

The Chiefs are entering next week’s game with far fewer injury concerns than the Eagles.

Stay tuned to see how Philadelphia’s injuries impact the Eagles’ ability to perform against Kansas City on both sides of the ball in Super Bowl LIX on February 9.

Broncos QB Bo Nix declines Pro Bowl nod due to minor procedure

Broncos QB Bo Nix turned down an invitation to the Pro Bowl to undergo a pre-planned minor procedure.

When Drake Maye and Russell Wilson were added to the AFC’s Pro Bowl roster on Tuesday as replacements, Denver Broncos fans quickly wondered why quarterback Bo Nix didn’t get in above them.

It turns out Nix was invited to the Pro Bowl as a fourth alternate in the AFC, but he turned down the offer due to a minor procedure, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.

The Klis story says it was a “routine and minor, cleanup procedure,” but his source did not reveal which part of Nix’s body received the treatment. Nix did play through three transverse process fractures last season, but Klis reports that the pre-planned procedure was not related to the back injury.

Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert and C.J. Stroud were all unavailable or opted out of the Pro Bowl, so Nix was next in line. After Nix opted out, Joe Burrow is now the AFC’s top QB left with Wilson and Maye added to the squad behind him.

Nix is the second Bronco to decline an alternate nod, joining guard Quinn Meinerz. After being invited as a first alternate, Meinerz turned it down because he did not want to participate as a replacement lineman.

The AFC squad will be coached by Peyton Manning in skills competitions on Jan. 30 (ESPN) and a flag football game on Feb. 2 (ESPN/ABC).

Broncos OLB Jonah Elliss had shoulder surgery; made All-Rookie team

Broncos OLB Jonah Elliss underwent shoulder surgery after making the PFWA’s All-Rookie Team in 2024.

Denver Broncos outside linebacker Jonah Elliss underwent should surgery last week, his father, Luther Elliss, confirmed to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.

Chris Tomasson of the Denver Gazette previously broke the news about Elliss suffering a fractured scapula bone in the team’s playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills. At the time of the initial report, it was not yet known if the pass rusher would undergo surgery.

Elliss (6-2, 246 pounds) eventually did undergo surgery, putting his status in doubt for the team’s offseason program this spring.

The Broncos picked Elliss in the third round of last year’s NFL draft out of Utah. He served as a rotational outside linebacker in his rookie season, totaling 38 tackles, six quarterback hits, five sacks and two pass breakups in 17 games (playing 38% of the defensive snaps).

Following his impressive season, Elliss made the Pro Football Writers of America’s All-Rookie Team. He was Denver’s only player to take home that honor following the 2024 season.

Ex-Broncos offensive lineman gets another chance with Lions

Netane Muti’s injury-riddled career will continue after the Lions re-signed him this week.

Netane Muti’s injury-riddled career will continue.

After spending the 2024 season on injured reserve, the 25-year-old guard re-signed with the Detroit Lions earlier this week, the team announced.

Muti (6-3, 315 pounds) fell to the sixth round of the 2020 NFL draft due in large part to injury concerns. The Denver Broncos picked the Fresno State product in the second-to-last round of the draft, betting on his high upside.

He spent the first three years of his career with the Broncos, starting four games. Denver cut him ahead of the 2022 season and Muti went on to spend the next two years with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Muti signed a reserve/future contract with the Lions after the 2023 season and he was competing for a 2024 starting role before suffering a shoulder injury that landed him on IR.

Muti’s football career has been hindered by injuries including a torn knee ligament, a torn Achilles, a Lisfranc injury and the aforementioned shoulder injury. He will now aim to stay healthy and bounce back in Detroit next season.

What is a transverse process fracture? Expert explains Bo Nix’s injury

Bo Nix’s back injury can cause “some of the worst pain,” but there’s no long-term sequela, according to Dr. Payal Kohli.

After the post-season revelation that Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix had played since Week 12 against the Las Vegas Raiders with transverse process back fractures, many fans have asked, what exactly is a transverse process fracture?

In a 9News report, health expert Dr. Payal Kohli broke down the injury.

“(The transverse process) was a tough one to learn in medical school, but if you think about our spine, it’s a bunch of bones that are stacked up, right?” Dr. Kohli said, via MSN. “Those are vertebrae. And then there’s the little pointy thing (in the middle) coming off of it. That’s the spinous process… The transverse process is the one that’s kind of like the arms coming off the stacked bones. …

“If you fracture (the transverse process), usually the mechanism of the fracture is a high — like a sports injury — high collision, either fall backwards or something hitting your back that can fracture this. Well, and it’s funny because this is the most commonly missed fracture by radiologists. If you get an X-ray of your spine, sometimes because you’re looking at it kind of head-on, you can actually miss this fracture.”

Dr. Kohli said people describe the injury as “some of the worst pain,” but there’s no long-term sequela, and surgery is rarely needed.

When asked how long the recovery from this injury could take, the doctor provided some good news. “Six to eight weeks (recovery time),” Dr. Kohli said. “That’s the good news. It heals pretty quickly, assuming you don’t injure it again, or do anything else to cause damage to it again, it can heal quickly.”

You can watch the entire segment here.

So, Bo Nix, if you’re reading this, please take it easy until at least the draft!

Injury update for Broncos OLB Jonah Elliss after shoulder blade fracture

Broncos OLB Jonah Elliss suffered a fractured scapula bone against the Bills, but he should be healed in time for the offseason program.

Denver Broncos outside linebacker Jonah Elliss left the team’s Wild Card playoff game against the Buffalo Bills in the second quarter of a 31-7 loss on Jan. 12. Elliss was later ruled out with a shoulder injury.

We now know that Elliss suffered a fractured scapula bone, according to a report from the Denver Gazette‘s Chris Tomasson. Fortunately, the pass rusher is expected to be healed in time for the offseason program.

“It’s just a broken bone, so six weeks,” the edge defender’s father, Luther Elliss, told Tomasson in an interview.

The elder Elliss said they’re still determining if the pass rusher will undergo surgery. Even if he does, Elliss is expected to be back in time for Denver’s offseason workouts this spring.

Elliss, 21, was picked by the Broncos in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft out of Utah. He served as a rotational pass rusher in his rookie season, totaling six quarterback hits and five sacks on 434 snaps (17 games). Elliss will look to build on those totals in 2025 once recovered.
