Commanders’ Week 8 inactives vs. Eagles

The Commanders placed two starters on IR. What does their inactive list look like for Week 8?

The Washington Commanders made several moves this week, including placing two starters on the reserve/injured list. Linebacker Cody Barton and left guard Saahdiq Charles were placed on IR Saturday and will miss at least the next four games.

That means there will be some changes for the Commanders in Week 8 vs. the Philadelphia Eagles.

How do those changes impact Washington’s inactive list for Week 8?

Here are the Commanders’ list of inactives for Sunday:

  • TE Curtis Hodges
  • DE K.J. Henry
  • WR Mitchell Tinsley
  • CB Christian Holmes
  • DE Andre Jones Jr.
  • T Trent Scott
  • TE Cole Turner

By the Commanders making Turner inactive, in addition to Hodges, they are clearly focused on adding some blocking help in the form of FB/TE Alex Armah. Armah will serve as Washington’s No. 3 TE and fullback.

Here are the Eagles’ inactives for Week 8.

Commanders’ Week 7 inactives vs. Giants

No surprises for the Commanders. Daniel Jones is out for the Giants, meaning Tyrod Taylor starts at quarterback.

The Washington Commanders released their inactive list ahead of Sunday’s Week 7 tilt against the New York Giants, and it looks somewhat familiar.

  • TE Curtis Hodges
  • G Chris Paul
  • T Trent Scott
  • WR Mitchell Tinsley
  • DE K.J. Henry
  • DE Efe Obada
  • CB Christian Holmes

Obada and Holmes are the surprises here. Holmes stars on special teams and missed last week with a hamstring injury. However, he wasn’t on Friday’s injury report. Obada missed the first five games and returned last week.

On Saturday, Washington activated defensive tackle Abdullah Anderson and cornerback Tariq Castro-Fields from the practice squad. Anderson’s elevation likely is due to Washington wanting interior depth, as the Giants will lean heavily on running back Saquon Barkley.

Meanwhile, the Giants have some big names on their inactive list. Quarterback Daniel Jones (neck injury) will miss his second consecutive start. Jones is 5-1-1 in his career vs. Washington.

All-Pro left tackle Andrew Thomas remains out with an injury. Thomas hasn’t played since Week 1, as the Giants have dealt with numerous injuries across the offensive line.

Here is the Giants’ inactive list, which features right tackle — and former top-10 pick Evan Neal.

  • QB Daniel Jones
  • CB Adoree’ Jackson
  • C John Michael Schmitz
  • T Evan Neal
  • T Matt Peart
  • T Andrew Thomas
  • DT Jordon Riley

Commanders’ Week 5 inactive list vs. Bears

Here are the inactives for the Commanders and Bears.

The Washington Commanders and Chicago Bears kick off Week 5 of the 2023 NFL season on Thursday Night Football.

Washington ruled out rookie running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. (illness) earlier on Thursday. Rodriguez was among the six inactives for the Commanders:

  • No. 23 RB Chris Rodriguez Jr.
  • No. 55 DE KJ Henry
  • No. 73 T Trent Scott
  • No. 75 G Chris Paul
  • No. 80 TE Curtis Hodges
  • No. 86 WR Mitchell Tinsley

Rodriguez is the only injury, as the rest of the inactive players are essentially the same group each week. To replace Rodriguez’s spot on the roster, the Commanders elevated veteran running back Derrick Gore from the practice squad for the second straight game.

Here are Chicago’s inactive players for Thursday night:

  • WR Chase Claypool
  • S Eddie Jackson
  • RB D’Onta Foreman
  • CB Jaylon Johnson
  • S Duron Harmon
  • OL Aviante Collins

Claypool is inactive for the second consecutive game for non-football reasons. Jackson and Johnson are out with injuries.

Commanders’ Week 4 inactive list vs. Eagles

The Commanders and Eagles announce their inactives for Week 4.

The Washington Commanders announced their Week 4 inactive list ahead of Sunday’s encounter with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Here’s the list:

  • RB Chris Rodriguez Jr.
  • TE Curtis Hodges
  • DE K.J. Henry
  • OT Trent Scott
  • G Chris Paul
  • WR Mitchell Tinsley

Rodriguez is inactive as he missed practice last week with an illness. The Commanders elevated veteran running back Derrick Gore from the practice squad on Saturday to serve as their third running back.

As for the Eagles, here is their inactive list.

Commanders’ Week 3 inactive list vs. Bills

Here are the inactives for both the Washington Commanders and Buffalo Bills for their Week 3 game.

The Washington Commanders released the inactive list for their Week 3 game against the Buffalo Bills. Among the starters, only tight end Logan Thomas is out. Thomas suffered a concussion in last week’s win over the Broncos and remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol.

Rookie defensive back Quan Martin returns for this game after missing last week with a concussion. Safety Kamren Curl and wide receiver Curtis Samuel, both of whom were sick and late additions to the injury report, are good to go.

Here is the complete list:

  • TE Logan Thomas
  • WR Mitchell Tinsley
  • OT Trent Scott
  • TE Curtis Hodges
  • G Chris Paul
  • DE K.J. Henry

With two tight ends out for the game, the Commanders elevated veteran fullback Alex Armah from the practice squad. Armah can also play tight end.

Here are Buffalo’s inactives for Week 3:

Commanders’ Week 1 inactives vs. Cardinals

Chase Young headlines Washington’s Week 1 inactives.

The Washington Commanders released their inactive list for the Week 1 contest against the Arizona Cardinals, with defensive end Chase Young headlining it.

Young, who was listed as questionable on Friday’s final injury report, was ruled out on Saturday. While Young was cleared for contact, the Commanders wanted to see how his neck injury responds to contact in practice before activating him.

Here is the complete inactive list for Week 1:

  • DE Chase Young
  • WR Mitchell Tinsley
  • DE William Bradley-King
  • T Trent Scott
  • TE Curtis Hodges
  • G Chris Paul

With Paul and Scott inactive, Washington is going with Cornelius Lucas, Ricky Stromberg and Tyler Larsen as the backup offensive linemen.

Hodges is inactive, meaning Logan Thomas is healthy, with John Bates and Cole Turner also expected to see plenty of time.

Commanders inactives for Week 18 vs. Cowboys

Washington’s Week 18 inactive list is full of starters.

The Washington Commanders released their inactive list ahead of the Week 18 season finale against the Dallas Cowboys, and it features multiple starters.

Here’s the complete list:

  • QB Carson Wentz
  • RB Brian Robinson Jr.
  • G Andrew Norwell
  • T Cornelius Lucas
  • DT Jonathan Allen
  • DE James Smith-Williams
  • S Kamren Curl

In addition to the above inactives, the Commanders placed multiple players on injured reserve last week, including Antonio Gibson, Benjamin St-Juste and Saahdiq Charles.

From the inactive list, every player was battling an injury, and the Commanders chose to just rest them and go with younger players. Washington will be without its top three running backs [Robinson, Gibson, J.D. McKissic], leaving Jonathan Williams a chance to carry the load and Jaret Patterson also receiving plenty of time.

Rookie seventh-round pick Chris Paul will start, seeing his first NFL action, joining quarterback Sam Howell.

Carson Wentz is a healthy scratch, as Howell and Taylor Heinicke are the quarterbacks for the Commanders.

Vikings have multiple starters inactive in Week 18 vs. Bears

The Vikings are treating this game similar to a preseason game

The Minnesota Vikings only have a small amount to play for and that hinges on a San Francisco 49ers loss to the Arizona Cardinals. With the Chicago Bears not playing quarterback Justin Fields, the Vikings have “in theory” an easy matchup.

With that in mind, they aren’t taking any chances and that is reflected in who the Vikings have named as their inactives.

Initially, the Vikings had announced that outside linebacker Za’Darius Smith would be traveling separately from the team due to a personal issue.

Safety Harrison Smith was ruled out on Saturday after he experienced some knee soreness after practice on Friday.

The rest of the list isn’t much of a suprise.

    • Cornerback Cameron Dantzler is still dealing with his ankle after suffering a high ankle sprain against the Washington Commanders.
    • After being injured, defensive end Ross Blacklock is healthy but the Vikings continue to make him inactive.
    • Both center Garrett Bradbury and defensive end James Lynch continue to be out with their respective injuries.
    • Linebacker Brian Asamoah likely would play in a normal week, but will miss Sunday’s game since it has little consequences.

Commanders’ Week 17 inactives vs. Browns

No Kam Curl. No Benjamin St-Juste. Not ideal for Washington’s secondary.

The Washington Commanders will be shorthanded in the secondary for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.

Cornerback Benjamin St-Juste and safety Kam Curl are inactive. St-Juste initially injured his ankle back in Week 11 against the Texans and missed the next three games. St-Juste returned in last week’s loss to the 49ers but tweaked his ankle.

Curl will miss his second consecutive game with an ankle injury. Washington’s defense has struggled in the three games Curl has missed this season, and defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio acknowledged how much Curl was missed.

Running back Antonio Gibson was ruled out Friday. Gibson is dealing with knee/ankle injuries. His absence will create more opportunities for Jonathan Williams.

Defensive end James Smith-Williams will miss the game with a concussion. Smith-Williams has started in Chase Young’s absence and has done an excellent job. With Young back, he will return to the starting lineup.

Here is the complete list of Washington inactives:

  • QB Sam Howell
  • RB Antonio Gibson
  • CB Benjamin St-Juste
  • S Kamren Curl
  • G Chris Paul
  • G/T Saahdiq Charles
  • DE James Smith-Williams

Commanders’ inactives for Week 15 vs. Giants

Here’s Washington’s inactives for Sunday Night Football against the New York Giants. No Chase Young or Benjamin St-Juste.

The Washington Commanders released their inactive list ahead of Sunday night’s rematch against the New York Giants.

Defensive end Chase Young, who many believed would make his 2022 debut against the Giants, is inactive. With three games remaining in the season after Sunday, it’s fair to wonder if Young will play this season.

Cornerback Benjamin St-Juste will miss his third straight game for the Commanders. St-Juste, who injured his ankle in the Week 11 win at Houston, was listed as questionable on the injury report. Washington will miss St-Juste.

Another noticeable addition to the inactive list is rookie quarterback Sam Howell. After serving as Taylor Heinicke’s backup since Week 7, Carson Wentz’s return pushes Howell back to the third quarterback. Howell had been inactive for Washington’s first six games before Wentz’s injury.

The Commanders’ remaining inactives are rookie guard Chris Paul, linebacker De’Jon Harris and guard Saahdiq Charles. Charles suffered a concussion in practice last week.
