Vikings sign WR N’Keal Harry, place James Lynch on IR

The Minnesota Vikings signed WR N’Keal Harry and officially placed DL James Lynch on injured reserve with a torn ACL.

The Minnesota Vikings announced that they officially placed defensive lineman James Lynch on injured reserve and signed wide receiver N’Keal Harry to fill his roster spot.

Lynch tore his ACL during Thursday’s practice and the move was expected. What wasn’t expected was the signing of both a wide receiver and it being Harry.

A first-round pick of the New England Patriots in 2019, Harry was picked before the likes of A.J. Brown, Deebo Samuel, D.K. Metcalf and Terry McLaurin. He struggled to create separation in space at Arizona State and that has translated to the NFL.

In his career, Harry has 64 receptions for 714 yards and five touchdowns. Harry last played with the Chicago Bears in 2022.

The move is likely just to add another body for camp, but Harry does add an element of size to a wide receiver room that relatively small across the board.

5 defensive lineman the Vikings can sign after James Lynch injury

After the season ending torn ACL for James Lynch, there are talented players that the Minnesota Vikings can still sign.

The Minnesota Vikings got some unfortunate news on Thursday when NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that defensive lineman James Lynch suffered a torn ACL during Thursday’s practice.

The defensive line room has a lot of question marks. Two of the candidates to make the roster are fifth-round picks Esezi Otomewo and Jaquelin Roy and the rest are journeymen or undrafted free agents.

If the Vikings don’t believe in the depth they currently have sans Lynch, they could look to the free-agent market. Here are five players available the Vikings could target.

Vikings DL James Lynch tears ACL, out for season

The Minnesota Vikings lost DL James Lynch for the season with a torn ACL.

The Minnesota Vikings suffered a season-ending injury during Thursday night’s practice as defensive lineman James Lynch suffered a torn ACL. The injury was first reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Lynch was a fourth-round pick out of Baylor in the 2020 NFL draft and saw some success with the Vikings defensive line. Across 37 games, Lynch had three starts and accumulated 53 tackles, 2.0 sacks, 4.0 tackles for loss, 2 quarterback hits and 1 fumble recovery.

The injury is unfortunate, as many believed Lynch would make the team. The defensive line group to make the final 53-man roster became that much more competitive. Jaquelin Roy, Esezi Otomewo, T.J. Smith, Sheldon Day, Calvin Avery and Ross Blacklock will be fighting for those last spots.

Once Lynch gets put on season-ending injured reserve, the Vikings will have one roster spot open.

Vikings injury report: Garrett Bradbury practices in full

The injury report is improving for the Vikings

The good news with the Minnesota Vikings injury report is that it continues to improve. For the first time since he aggravated his back injury in a minor car accident after the Indianapolis Colts game, center Garrett Bradbury was a full participant in practice.

Luckily for the Vikings, it puts Bradbury in position to play this Sunday barring a setback. With the Vikings’ recent struggles on the offensive line without Bradbury, this is a massive development.

Along with Bradbury, linebacker Brian Asamoah was also upgraded to a full participant in practice with a knee injury.

Safety Harrison Smith (knee) and defensive end James Lynch (shoulder) maintained the status quo by staying limited and full in practice, respectively.

Cornerback Cameroun Dantzler was still out of practice with both his ankle injury and the personal matter that he is dealing with.

Friday’s injury report will tell us more about their status for Sunday.

Vikings have multiple starters inactive in Week 18 vs. Bears

The Vikings are treating this game similar to a preseason game

The Minnesota Vikings only have a small amount to play for and that hinges on a San Francisco 49ers loss to the Arizona Cardinals. With the Chicago Bears not playing quarterback Justin Fields, the Vikings have “in theory” an easy matchup.

With that in mind, they aren’t taking any chances and that is reflected in who the Vikings have named as their inactives.

Initially, the Vikings had announced that outside linebacker Za’Darius Smith would be traveling separately from the team due to a personal issue.

Safety Harrison Smith was ruled out on Saturday after he experienced some knee soreness after practice on Friday.

The rest of the list isn’t much of a suprise.

    • Cornerback Cameron Dantzler is still dealing with his ankle after suffering a high ankle sprain against the Washington Commanders.
    • After being injured, defensive end Ross Blacklock is healthy but the Vikings continue to make him inactive.
    • Both center Garrett Bradbury and defensive end James Lynch continue to be out with their respective injuries.
    • Linebacker Brian Asamoah likely would play in a normal week, but will miss Sunday’s game since it has little consequences.
