Browns LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah misses practice with non-COVID illness

Noted as non-COVID related, JOK missed practice on Thursday with an illness according to the team:

The Cleveland Browns are hoping they have as many players back as possible from both their reserve/COVID-19 list as well as from injuries. Earlier today, the team activated four more players off the COVID list including CB Greg Newsome II who was also cleared from the concussion protocol.

Following practice came news from the team that LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah missed practice due to being ill. The team reported that the illness was not COVID-19.

The Browns second-round pick out of Notre Dame, Owusu-Koramoah has played well at the second level of the Cleveland defense. His speed, agility and awareness have put him in a position to be successful early in his career.

With an extra day plus before Monday Night Football, it is hopeful that his illness will not keep him out of the game. Owusu-Koramoah has been starting much of the season next to Anthony Walker Jr. at the linebacker spots. If his illness does not allow him to play, Jacob Phillips or Malcolm Smith would likely step into his role.

We will have more information as it becomes available.

McCarthy: Despite illness, ‘everything pointing’ to DeMarcus Lawrence playing Sunday

The Cowboys coach also updated reporters on Randy Gregory and Chidobe Awuzie, both expected to be active as the Cowboys face the Vikings.

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy expressed optimism about a trio of his defensive standouts being ready to take the field on Sunday in Minnesota.

The comments came Friday at his weekly press conference, after the team’s low-impact “mock game” session. But McCarthy and his staff treat Saturday as a real practice day, so no one’s playing status is yet set in stone.

Defensive end Randy Gregory missed the team’s past two practices with an unspecified illness. He was back with the defense on Friday, though, and appears on track to play against the Vikings.

“Randy’s here,” McCarthy told reporters virtually. “He’s part of the work process today. So I look for him to continue to progress.”

The other end of the defensive line is perhaps more troubling. DeMarcus Lawrence made a surprise appearance on Thursday’s practice report, also with the generic “illness” designation. He remained away from the team facility on Friday, but McCarthy did not let on to any more of a prognosis. In fact, he suggested that Lawrence would be in the Week 11 lineup as normal.

“D-Law is still not here. He has the illness. Everything’s pointing to D-Law playing as I sit here today.”

As has been the case for so many Cowboys players this season, Saturday’s practice session will be key in determining if Lawrence will play. A seasoned veteran like Lawrence having to sit out a Friday walk-through did not seem to concern McCarthy to any great extent.

“Saturday’s a practice. The walk-through segment was more today, more of a jog-through,” the coach reiterated when asked again about the two-time Pro Bowler. “He’s progressing, and I’ll know more tomorrow.”

Finally, cornerback Chidobe Awuzie is set to finally return to action after a hamstring injury he suffered in Week 2.

“Chido looked good,” McCarthy reported. “He looks like he’s full-go. He’s had an excellent week.”

That’s welcome news for the Dallas secondary, especially after rookie cornerback Trevon Diggs was placed on injured reserve this week with a foot fracture. Awuzie will look to contain the Vikings receiving corps, led by Adam Thielen and 2020 first-round pick Justin Jefferson.

Seahawks safety Jamal Adams a full participant in Friday’s practice

After missing the last four games with a groin injury, Seahawks safety Jamal Adams was a full participant in Friday’s practice ahead of Week 9.

Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams is likely to take the field this Sunday when the team squares off against the Buffalo Bills for their Week-9 matchup.

After missing the last four games due to a groin injury and a brief illness last week, Adams has returned to the practice field and got in his first, full session on Friday. He is no longer listed on the injury report.

“He reported coming off the rehab really fit and so he looked great this week,” coach Pete Carroll told reporters after the walkthrough. “He was flying. I don’t see any reason to restrict him at all.”

While Adams should see his first game in well over a month, that isn’t the case for a number of Seahawks this Sunday.

Seattle has already ruled out running backs Chris Carson (foot) and Carlos Hyde (hamstring), guard Mike Iupati (back), cornerback Shaquill Griffin (concussion/hamstring), safety Ugo Amadi (hamstring) and defensive end Benson Mayowa (ankle) against the Bills.

Seahawks safety Jamal Adams expected to practice in full this week

Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams is expected to practice in full Week 9 after sitting out with a groin injury and illness.

The Seattle Seahawks gave up major draft capital to acquire star safety Jamal Adams ahead of the season but he’s been hindered by a lingering groin injury he sustained Week 3. In addition, Adams fell ill last week and was unable to get in enough time on the practice field to be able to suit up against the 49ers.

Coach Pete Carroll is expecting Adams to return to duty on Wednesday.

“He’s going to go full practice this week and get back into action,” Carroll said during his Monday radio show on 710 ESPN Seattle. “He was going to try that last week and it just didn’t work out right, he got ill. He should be able to go. We won’t know until Thursday about Friday, just as we do it.”

For now, Adams will be day to day as he adjusts to the higher workload.

“He needs the work just to get out there and get on the field,” Carroll continued. “He’s studied like crazy, he was in all of the walkthroughs he could be in during this past week in an attempt to get ready. So we’ll be really excited to have him back. He is so pumped up to get back.

“He’s just dying to get out there with the fellas, so we’re really looking forward to it.”

Seahawks safety Jamal Adams is questionable for Week 8 vs. 49ers

Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams is questionable for Week 8 vs. the San Francisco 49ers after getting in limited practice during the week.

The Seattle Seahawks are hopeful their star safety Jamal Adams will return to the field to face the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday for the team’s Week-8 matchup.

Adams has missed the last three games due to a groin injury but got in some very limited practice on Friday.

“He worked today,” coach Pete Carroll said Friday after the walkthrough. “He got some work today so that’s a good sign. It’s a real good sign. We’ll just have to figure it out, see if he’s OK. You’re going see some guys we’re going right to game time on a number of guys.”

Even though Adams appears to be on the mend from the groin injury, he was temporarily sidelined this week due to an illness. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Adams could not return to the facility until Thursday afternoon. He has continued to test negative for the coronavirus.

Adams’ lack of work this week could be a factor in whether or not he is ready to go this Sunday.

“Yeah, it’s a big concern, it’s a big concern,” Carroll said. “That’s a lot to ask. He’s worked out great in his conditioning work and all that. The fact that he had to miss a couple days here really kind of threw a wrench in the works for a smooth comeback. So we’ll have to see what happens at game time.”

Three of Seattle’s running backs – Chris Carson, Carlos Hyde, and Travis Homer – will also be game-day decisions against the 49ers.

Dwayne Haskins asked to stay home from Sunday’s game because of illness

Haskins was scheduled to be inactive, but he will no longer be at the field on Sunday after being asked to stay home with a stomach virus.

Washington’s now third-string quarterback was likely going to be listed as inactive on Sunday when his team played the Los Angeles Rams, meaning he would be on the sidelines in street clothes, but now he is being asked to avoid the game entirely after reportedly falling ill with a stomach virus that has had him throwing up for the past couple of days.

According to The Washington Post’s Nicki Jhabvala, there is no reason to believe that the illness is COVID-19 related, but the team is still taking precautions and asking Haskins to watch from home. Washington’s Kyle Allen will get his first start of the season when Washington kicks off against the Rams on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

Report: Chiefs RG Andrew Wylie inactive with illness, being taken to hospital

The Chiefs will be without their starting right guard against the Ravens.

Kansas City Chiefs starting RG Andrew Wylie was a surprise inactive for “Monday Night Football” against the Baltimore Ravens.

According to a report from Kansas City Star reporter Herbie Teope, Wylie was made inactive after showing up to M&T Bank Stadium feeling sick. Among further examination from the Chiefs’ training staff, Wylie was taken to the hospital.

It’s not clear what type of symptoms or illness he’s dealing with, but obviously, it’s never a good sign when something like this forces a player out of a game and into the hospital. It’s certainly something that we’ll be monitoring throughout the evening.

Wylie practiced in full all week for Kansas City. Expect veteran swing offensive lineman Mike Remmers to fill in for Wylie at the right guard spot. His two spots with the most starts are right tackle and right guard, so he’ll feel right at home there.

Chiefs DE Frank Clark reveals why he missed a portion of Week 2

A trip to the hydration station is in order for Kansas City Chiefs DE Frank Clark.

[jwplayer NybZ0La6-ThvAeFxT]

The Kansas City Chiefs were without starting DE Frank Clark during a portion of their Week 2 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Clark played in less that 50% of the Chiefs’ snaps on Sunday after exiting the game with an illness. After the game, Andy Reid confirmed an illness for Clark but didn’t have much more of an update besides that. This left many questions about the type of illness Clark was dealing with and why it caused him to exit the game.

On Monday, Clark took to Twitter to thank those concerned for him. He also revealed that this shouldn’t be much of an issue moving forward.

So, Clark struggled to stay hydrated during the game but claimed to be feeling great on Monday.

During Reid’s media availability, he was asked if this was related at all to the stomach sickness that Clark dealt with last year, which was in part caused by a prior appendectomy. That specific illness had him shedding weight in the thick of the 2019 season.

“No, he’s had this for a number of years I believe,” Reid said. “He works through it. Nobody wants to be out there more than him. That’s never a question with Frank Clark, he loves to play the game and it’s something that he battles through with. Our doctors try to monitor it and keep it under control the best that they can.”

So there you have it, this doesn’t seem to be an issue that would linger and keep him out for an extended period of time. You can certainly assume that Clark will be ready to play and hydrated in Week 3 when the Chiefs face the Baltimore Ravens on the road on “Monday Night Football.”

The Seattle Seahawks have announced a late addition to the Week 1 injury report ahead of the Atlanta Falcons matchup on Sunday.

Tackle Jamarco Jones has been added to the list, designated as questionable to play with an illness. The nature of the illness was not disclosed.

Seattle now has three players on the injury report for Sunday: tackle Cedric Ogbuehi, who has been ruled out with a pec injury, wide receiver Phillip Dorsett, listed as questionable with a sore foot, and Jones.

The Seahawks and Falcons are set to kick off at 10:00 a.m. PT on Sunday, Sept. 13. Everything you need to know to catch all the action can be found here.

A healthy Tyler Lockett is a huge factor for Seahawks on Sundays

Finally back to full form, Seattle Seahawks receiver Tyler Lockett is now 100% healthy and ready to take on the Arizona Cardinals Week 16.

The Seattle Seahawks realized just how much they had missed Tyler Lockett when he finally returned to full form last week.

Lockett had first suffered a leg injury against the 49ers and was then hit with the flu that had been circling the Seahawks locker room. While the wide receiver didn’t miss a matchup, it was clear he was not 100% on the field.

“It was weird because we kind of felt it during the week – we just kind of felt it,” offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said on Thursday. “Sometimes, when you’re out here watching practice, you get a sense of man, the ball is going to him a lot. Or boy, he’s moving like himself. Like he’s got a particular speed that you’re used to seeing and we hadn’t really seen that for a while. I wasn’t really surprised. It was great to see it. I think he felt good.”

Against the Panthers last Sunday, Lockett bounced back to log eight receptions for 120 yards and a touchdown. He now has 75 catches for 994 yards and seven scores on the year.

“The catch he made, the big one down our boundary early in the game on 26 was an unbelievable catch,” Schottenheimer praised. “I still don’t know how he finishes some of those plays. We kind of anticipate it might be a good day for him.”

Lockett will get his next shot to impress Sunday afternoon against the Cardinals at CenturyLink Field.
