Cowboys RB Tony Pollard suffered fractured fibula, faces month-long recovery

Tony Pollard’s injury in the second quarter of the Cowboys’ 19-12 divisional-round loss left the team severely hobbled for the back half of Sunday’s game in San Francisco.

It will now also leave Pollard himself limping into the biggest offseason of his professional career.

The four-year veteran reportedly suffered a high ankle sprain and a fractured fibula in his left leg when 49ers defensive back Jimmie Ward tackled him from behind on a pass play that gained eight yards.

ESPN’s Todd Archer delivered the news via social media late Sunday night.

Pollard was carted off the field and did not return in the Cowboys’ postseason exit.

Pollard will undergo surgery to repair the damage.

The former fourth-round draft pick out of Memphis is set to become a free agent after the first 1,000-yard rushing season of his career. The dual threat had finally become a focal point of the Dallas offense in 2022, leading the team in ground yards and yards-per-carry for the season and nearly matching Ezekiel Elliott in carries. Pollard was also named to his first Pro Bowl for his efforts.

Thought to be one the league’s top free agents this coming offseason and in line for a massive contract (from either the Cowboys or someone else), Pollard now also faces the prospect of a three-month recovery, at minimum.

He was seen leaving Levi’s Stadium on crutches and in a walking boot after Sunday’s game.

Pollard had amassed 22 yards on six rushing attempts when he went down, with another 11 yards through the air on a pair of catches.

The Cowboys offensive attack sputtered badly in his absence. Quarterback Dak Prescott threw his second interception of the evening on the very next play, and the team compiled just 17 rushing yards on six tries the rest of the game.

Pete Carroll doesn’t expect Seahawks G Damien Lewis to be out for long

After further evaluation, Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll doesn’t expect guard Damien Lewis to be out for long with his ankle sprain.

The Seattle Seahawks got quite a scare Thursday night at Lumen Field when guard Damien Lewis was fitted with an air cast and carted off the field. At first glance, Lewis appeared to suffer a serious leg injury but later testing revealed a lateral ankle sprain.

Coach Pete Carroll is confident Lewis will be able to return to the action sooner than later.

“Only that it is kind of a basketball ankle sprain, so that is a really positive thing,” Carroll explained after Sunday’s practice. “It’s the swelling that he has to deal with. There are no torn ligaments or any of that stuff, so it doesn’t mean that he is immediately popping back, but it’s not going to be a long time.

“It’s like not a high ankle sprain that lingers forever.”

Lewis likely won’t be back by the Seahawks’ final preseason game on Friday but with the opener not until Sept. 12 against the Broncos, all fingers are crossed he’ll be ready to roll by then.

Seahawks G Damien Lewis escapes major injury with lateral ankle sprain

After being carted off the field in an air cast, Seattle Seahawks guard Damien Lewis was determined to have only a lateral ankle sprain.

The Seattle Seahawks struggled mightily in their 27-11 loss to the Chicago Bears on Thursday night. And to add insult to injury, all of Lumen Field watched as guard Damien Lewis was fitted with an air cast and carted off the field.

All indications at the time were that Lewis had suffered a major leg injury.

It wasn’t until his postgame press conference that coach Pete Carroll was able to provide an updated status for Lewis, who by then, had undergone an initial round of tests.

“D-Lew, we’re very fortunate,” Carroll told reporters after the matchup. “He had a lateral ankle sprain out of the deal. Got rolled up on and all that. All the X-rays and stuff were negative. Very fortunate there. He was upbeat about that a little bit.

“Maybe surprised by the results but we’re thrilled by it as well.”

No particular timeline was given for Lewis’ return.

Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs a full go to start training camp

Seattle Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs was a full go to start training camp following a gruesome leg injury suffered last season.

While Seattle Seahawks fans got some bad news on Thursday regarding safety Jamal Adams and his hand injury, the team’s other starting safety – Quandre Diggs – has had an impressive start to training camp.

He had a fantastic first day,” coach Pete Carroll told reporters on Thursday. “The thing that I posed to the guys was that you get this one shot, yesterday, to make a first impression. I was trying to challenge them a little bit. We had a number of guys that jumped out at us on the practice field and off of the film. He was one of them, Quandre looked great yesterday.”

Diggs is returning from a gruesome leg injury after he dislocated his ankle and broke his fibula in the Seahawks’ final game of the season. Now, back on the practice field, Carroll isn’t taking any unnecessary risks.

“You could not tell, he had a couple of bursts in coverage opportunities and he was flying around the field,” Carroll continued. “I think that he logged the most plays in the day by the time the day was over, so we cut back a little bit today. He was a full go and that was great.”

Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs plans to be ready to go by training camp

Seattle Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs, who has been recovering from a leg injury, plans to be ready to go by the start of training camp.

Like fellow Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams, Pro Bowler Quandre Diggs has spent the majority of the offseason rehabbing ahead of the start of the new year. Able to participate only in the walk-through portion of the minicamp practice, Diggs was still relieved to be back on the field with his teammates.

“I mean, it’s a blessing, everything happens for a reason and it sucks that it happened, but it gives you a newfound respect for the game and it also, kind of tells you not to take things for granted, not saying that I was, but, just sometimes God sets you back for a reason and my reason could have been just to be able to come back here,” Diggs told reporters on Tuesday. “Maybe if I was healthy, I wouldn’t, so who knows? But in the grand scheme of things, I’m blessed, and I’m happy to be back here.”

Diggs sustained a serious leg injury last season in Week 18 and had to undergo surgery. The prognosis was for a four-to-six month recovery time. Now in his fifth month, he is hopeful for a return this summer at the start of training camp.

That’s the plan, so we’ll see,” Diggs said. “You guys will be out there during camp and guess you guys will see whenever we kick off camp.”

Seahawks rookie DE Darrell Taylor not ruled out for postseason play

Seattle Seahawks rookie defensive end Darrell Taylor could be available to the team at some point during the postseason from the NFL list.

Coach Pete Carroll isn’t ruling out the chance that rookie defensive end Darrell Taylor could be available to the team at some point during the postseason if the Seattle Seahawks continue their push into the playoffs.

“He has flashed, obviously, we’ve seen the quickness,” Carroll told reporters Thursday afternoon. “Today, I’m anxious to see this film because this was the best day for him. We’re kind of ramping him up and today he cut it loose a little bit, so I’m anxious to see it, but there’s no question that that he belongs out here with these guys.”

Taylor finally returned to practice this week after spending the entire season so far on the Non-Football Injury list as he recovered from a leg injury he sustained last year while at Tennessee.

The rookie would need to be activated to the roster before he could appear in a contest.

The Seahawks have the healthiest roster of their 2020 campaign as they head into the playoffs this weekend, set to square off against the Los Angeles Rams in the wild-card round on Saturday.

Cowboys center Joe Looney leaves with leg injury

Starting center Joe Looney leaves game after the first play from scrimmage with an apparent leg injury.

It only took one play for the Dallas Cowboys to have to shuffle their offensive line. Center Joe Looney went down on the first play from scrimmage after a short run play for Ezekiel Elliot. Looney was taken to the locker room immediately and walked off under guidance from trainers.

Rookie Tyler Biadasz will be coming in his absence. Biadasz made his season debut last week at Seattle.

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was sacked on the next play with right tackle Terrance Steeler giving up a sack to Myles Garrett.

More on Looney’s injury as information becomes available.

A healthy Tyler Lockett is a huge factor for Seahawks on Sundays

Finally back to full form, Seattle Seahawks receiver Tyler Lockett is now 100% healthy and ready to take on the Arizona Cardinals Week 16.

The Seattle Seahawks realized just how much they had missed Tyler Lockett when he finally returned to full form last week.

Lockett had first suffered a leg injury against the 49ers and was then hit with the flu that had been circling the Seahawks locker room. While the wide receiver didn’t miss a matchup, it was clear he was not 100% on the field.

“It was weird because we kind of felt it during the week – we just kind of felt it,” offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said on Thursday. “Sometimes, when you’re out here watching practice, you get a sense of man, the ball is going to him a lot. Or boy, he’s moving like himself. Like he’s got a particular speed that you’re used to seeing and we hadn’t really seen that for a while. I wasn’t really surprised. It was great to see it. I think he felt good.”

Against the Panthers last Sunday, Lockett bounced back to log eight receptions for 120 yards and a touchdown. He now has 75 catches for 994 yards and seven scores on the year.

“The catch he made, the big one down our boundary early in the game on 26 was an unbelievable catch,” Schottenheimer praised. “I still don’t know how he finishes some of those plays. We kind of anticipate it might be a good day for him.”

Lockett will get his next shot to impress Sunday afternoon against the Cardinals at CenturyLink Field.

Seahawks receiver Tyler Lockett returns to top form against Panthers

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett has been battling to get back to full health over the last month seeing limited production on gamedays.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett has been battling to get back to full health over the last month seeing limited production on gamedays.

First sidelined with a lower leg injury following the Seahawks Week-10 win in San Francisco, Lockett then succumbed to the flu, logging only five receptions over his last three outings.

Finally healthy for the Week 15 start in Carolina, Lockett once again proved just what he is capable of when feeling 100%.

Lockett started strong on Sunday when he connected with quarterback Russell Wilson for 44 yards in the middle of the first quarter, hauling in an inconceivable catch.

Finishing the day as the Seahawks leading receiver, Lockett managed eight catches on nine targets for 120 yards and a touchdown.

Here’s a look at Lockett’s score in the second quarter on a 19-yard TD pass from Wilson.

After his impressive performance against the Panthers, it’s safe to say the Seahawks No. 1 is 100% back in action and ready to roll, just as his quarterback predicted ahead of the matchup.

Russell Wilson: Seahawks receiver Tyler Lockett is 100% ready to roll

After battling a leg injury and an illness, Seattle Seahawks quarterback believes his wide receiver, Tyler Lockett, is finally ready to roll.

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has been without the full assistance of No. 1 wide receiver Tyler Lockett over the last couple of games as the wideout first battled a leg injury and then the illness that had spread throughout Seattle’s locker room.

“Tyler is a huge part of our offense,” Wilson told reporters Thursday. “We want to get him going throughout the game and just get him the football. He’s such a special player. You definitely notice him on the field when he’s making those plays.”

Lockett has only logged five receptions over his last three outings but with the playoff push a huge factor, he remains critical to the Seahawks’ game plan going forward.

“Yeah, I think Tyler’s ready to roll – 100%,” Wilson said. “He looks fresh and ready to play some great football. We got a three-game push right here. One game at a time. We’re looking forward to that opportunity. Everything that we want is ahead of us. We’re 10-3. There’s no time for ‘woe is me’ or anything like that. We’re ready to roll and we’re looking forward to the opportunity of finding ways to win and getting to the playoffs hopefully and hopefully go a long way.”

Lockett was a full participant in Thursday’s practice but still remains listed on the report with a shin injury.
