Colts’ Ryan Kelly injures ankle vs. Raiders

Colts’ Ryan Kelly suffered an ankle injury against the Raiders.

Update: Colts center Ryan Kelly returned to the game in the third quarter. You can read the original post below.

Indianapolis Colts center Ryan Kelly sustained an ankle injury and is questionable to return for Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

When the Colts came out of the locker room for halftime, it was reported that Kelly was dealing with an ankle injury. Wesley French will replace him at center.

Kelly has dealt with a few injuries this season as has most of the offensive line save Quenton Nelson.

We will update this post with any change to Kelly’s status.

Colts’ Cameron McGrone downgraded to doubtful vs. Raiders

Cameron McGrone is unlikely to play against the Raiders.

Indianapolis Colts linebacker Cameron McGrone (illness) was downgraded from questionable to doubtful for the Week 17 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders, the team announced Saturday.

McGrone failed to practice all week due to an illness but was still listed as questionable on the final injury report.

McGrone has appeared in 12 games (no starts) this season and has mostly played a role on special teams. He’s logged 135 special teams snaps this season, good for 41% of the snaps.

Good news for 49ers as DT Javon Hargrave returns to practice

Some good news for the #49ers on the injury front:

The 49ers on Friday got some much-needed positive injury news ahead of their Week 16 bout with the Baltimore Ravens.

Defensive tackle Javon Hargrave was back in practice after missing all of Week 15 and the first session of Week 16. It was only a limited participation for him, but injuries have piled up at DT so getting even a limited practice from Hargrave is significant for the 49ers and could be a sign that he’s angling toward playing Monday night.

Here’s the full participation report from Friday:

Colts rule out Jonathan Taylor, Braden Smith for Week 15

Jonathan Taylor and Braden Smith have been ruled out for Week 15.

The Indianapolis Colts ruled out running back Jonathan Taylor and right tackle Braden Smith on Thursday ahead of the Week 15 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Both Taylor (thumb) and Smith (knee) failed to log a practice in any capacity this week. Taylor will miss his third consecutive game since undergoing thumb surgery while Smith will miss his second consecutive game and sixth on the season (seven if you count Week 12 in which he played just three snaps).

Replacing Taylor in the backfield will once again be Zack Moss, who has struggled to provide explosiveness since getting the starting role back two weeks ago. In that span, he’s taken 31 carries for 79 rushing yards, averaging just 2.5 yards per carry.

Replacing Smith at right tackle will once again be the rookie in Blake Freeland, who will make his eighth start of the season.

Falcons could get key players back for Week 15 game vs. Panthers

Arthur Smith says Falcons should get key players back in Week 15: “We’re pretty optimistic about most of the guys.”

The Atlanta Falcons are the least healthy that they have been all season, but things are looking up as they prepare to take on the Carolina Panthers in Week 15. Head coach Arthur Smith sounded optimistic about the team’s injuries when talking to reporters ahead of Wednesday’s practice.

“Thankfully, most of the guys have a legitimate chance to play,” said Smith, per team reporter Terrin Waack. “We’ll have a clear picture by Friday for sure. We’re pretty optimistic about most of the guys.”

The Falcons have injuries all across their offensive line. Rookie left guard Matthew Bergeron is the only starter who isn’t dealing with an injury. Stay tuned for the team’s full injury report following Wednesday’s practice.

Colts’ E.J. Speed, Julius Brents ruled out vs. Bengals

The Colts downgraded two defensive starters to OUT in Week 14.

The Indianapolis Colts downgraded the injury statuses of linebacker E.J. Speed and cornerback Julius Brents from questionable to out ahead of the Week 14 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speed has been dealing with a knee injury this week and was only able to log a limited practice Friday. He was questionable on the final injury report but it appears his knee isn’t quite healthy enough to play in the crucial game Sunday.

Speed will likely be replaced by Ronnie Harrison Jr., who has been working as the No. 3 linebacker during the last two games. Grant Stuard and Segun Olbui also could see an increase in snaps.

Brents made his return to practice this week for the first time since injuring his quad in Week 7 against the Cleveland Browns. It’s an encouraging step considering he logged two limited practices this week, but it’s no surprise the Colts are being cautious with his return.

The Colts will rely on fellow rookie Jaylon Jones and second-year undrafted cornerback Darrell Baker Jr. to cover the boundary against Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

5 ruled out, 12 questionable in Colts vs. Patriots

Injury designations for Week 10.

The Indianapolis Colts (4-5) and New England Patriots (2-7) are just about ready to face off for an overseas matchup in Week 10 at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt, Germany.

On the final injury report for Week 10, the Colts ruled out two players earlier in the week while three others are listed as questionable. Meanwhile, the Patriots ruled out three players and have nine listed as questionable.

We will update changes to a player’s status that are announced Saturday before the game.

Here’s a look at the players with injury designations going into the Week 10 matchup:

Colts rule out two players vs. Panthers in Week 9

Two players were ruled out for Week 9.

The Indianapolis Colts ruled out right tackle Braden Smith and cornerback Julius Brents ahead of the Week 9 matchup against the Carolina Panthers, according to head coach Shane Steichen on Friday.

It’s no surprise that both of those players were ruled out considering they didn’t log a single practice. This will be Brents’ second consecutive missed game due to a quad injury he suffered in Week 7.

Meanwhile, Smith will miss his fourth consecutive game due to hip and wrist injuries.

As it pertains to linebacker Zaire Franklin, who is dealing with a knee injury, he is considered a game-time decision.

Smith’s expected replacement, rookie Blake Freeland, is also a game-time decision after suffering a back injury during practice this week. It isn’t clear who would start right tackle if both Smith and Freeland are out, but there’s a chance it would be Arlington Hambright.

Tight end Kylen Granson cleared the concussion protocol so he will be expected to play.

The Colts will release their final injury report with designations later Friday so that will give us a better idea of what the injury situation looks like.

Cowboys update Tyron Smith’s Week 9 prognosis after late scratch vs Rams

From @ToddBrock24f7: Dallas was down to a 3rd-string LT in Week 8 after Tyron Smith was held out and Chuma Edoga got hurt. But the team is optimistic for Sunday.

It’s been said that, apart from quarterback, left tackle is the most important position on a football team. You can scheme your way around almost any other deficiency in the lineup, but if you want to have success, you’d better have an answer at left tackle.

Coming off a dominating 43-20 win and looking ahead at a massive divisional showdown, though, the Cowboys have far more questions than answers at Tyron Smith’s usual spot.

The eight-time Pro Bowler was in street clothes for Sunday’s game versus the Rams after suffering a neck stinger earlier in the week. Despite trending toward making the start, Smith found himself a very late scratch for the second time this season.

“Actually, we all thought Tyron was going to go, until the last second. Probably the better part of valor was to not play him today,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told the media at AT&T Stadium following the team’s 43-20 win.

Just as in the Week 3 switcheroo that saw Smith even named a team captain before being declared out during pregame warmups, the 32-year-old seemed ready to take the field right up until the last moment.

“Tyron was suited up- I mean, he was one of the first guys here today,” Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters in his postgame press conference “So he was ready to go. But going through the examination, the medical staff decided that he was not ready.”

Backup Chuma Edoga got the start instead and got off to a very rocky start, letting L.A. defensive end Michael Hoecht blow past him to sack Dak Prescott on the first play from scrimmage.

But Edoga himself was injured late in the game and had to be carted off the field. Early indications are that he has a low ankle sprain; he may not miss much time- if any at all- though the results of further testing will likely lend clarity.

That left fifth-round rookie Asim Richards to come on in relief in the fourth quarter, and it leaves the Cowboys with a good bit of uncertainty as they prepare to face Philadelphia’s ferocious defense.

Still, Jones says he is not inclined to rush to work a deal for a left tackle before Tuesday’s trade deadline.

“Thank goodness we’ve got some good depth. We’ve been developing depth,” Jones said. “I feel good about our offensive line. Everybody in the league is looking for starting offensive linemen. Everybody.”

“If you really look at our team right now, the biggest need is depth on the offensive line. Really. More so than anyplace else,” Jones continued before getting more specific.

Starting kind of depth.”

So for Dallas, the real answer may simply be to trust that Smith will have himself ready to play- for real- in Week 9.

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones echoed that on 105.3 The Fan Monday: “[H]opefully he’ll be ready to go against the Eagles.”

But the inconvenient truth is this: at this point in the oft-injured lineman’s career, Smith has come to be viewed as practically a gametime decision every single week.

“You have to,” McCarthy admitted. “We’re fortunate to have veterans that are long in the tooth that have played a lot of football for us at a high level. You do have to recognize that, especially when you when get to this point in the season.”

Smith will have several more days to recuperate, with Mondays used for film study instead of practice, Tuesdays off, and Wednesdays set aside for a handful of Cowboys veterans as a rest day.

“Even if he wasn’t injured,” McCarthy explained, “he wouldn’t be practicing on Wednesday again.”

It was a knee injury suffered in practice that held Smith out of Weeks 3 and 4. Now his latest neck stinger- also sustained in practice- has cost him another game, even if it was out of an abundance of caution.

“[If it had been the] Super Bowl, might have been a different story,” Jones suggested. “We didn’t want him to get another stinger out there on top of what he’s had. He’ll work through this as he always has.”

And the Cowboys will explore contingency plans at left tackle, just as they always have.
